Quit shortcut doesn't work

The 'Command-Q' shortcut doesn't work on a Macbbook pro, with Snow Leopard 10.6.8.  All the other Command based shortcuts work (close window, etc) as well as the Q key itself.  Tried resetting the keyboard shortcuts in System Preferences but no go.  Any ideas?

Do you have keyboard maestro installed >>>   cmd q does not close any program anymore

Why do we have to install 2 add ins for something that should be built in? Please add this to the next version or an update to this one even. We should see the full path of a bookmark when we search for it. Show Parent Folder alone isn't enough if you have sub folders, so I installed Go Parent Folder as well in case of sub folders.

  • Keyboard shortcuts doesn't work with iOS 6.1.3

Since I've upgraded my iPhone 5 to iOS 6.1.3, my keybord's shortcuts doesn't work.
    Can you help me?Key

    HI boombadabum,
I understand that you are having issues with keyboard shortcuts with a custom keyboard layout.
I also understand that when you press the shortcuts that the menu blinks like it is working, but nothing actually happens.
As a work around, you may be able to map them out with this add on[https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/customizable-shortcuts/]

  • The "hide" shortcut doesn't work

Hello, I want to know why the shortcut "hide bottom" (control E on PC) doesn't work on my illustrator, I need to install all the program again?

    Lea,
I am afraid this is what you have (Object>Hide>Hide All Artwork Above being quite useful but rather the opposite):
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/illustrator/cs/using/WS714a382cdf7d304e7e07d0100196cbc5f-62b8a .html#WS714a382cdf7d304e7e07d0100196cbc5f-62b6a
The concept exists, but in other contexts:

  • Command + T shortcut doesn't work on Mac

Using Firefox 5.0 on Mac OS X 10.6.8. The Command + T shortcut for opening a new tab doesn't work. I didn't try all the keyboard shortcuts, but among those ones I frequently use this is the only shortcut that doesn't work.

    Hi everyone,
Thanks for your replies. However I think each of them misses the point. I realize that I should have given ( even ) more information, so sorry about that. I will try and do that here.
It's about a link to a website like www.website.com ( is a fake name for example purposes!! ). It has worked on both my PC and laptop!! Somewhere along the way ( cannot quite remember when ) there was an update of some kind on my laptop, that apparantly hasn't occured on my PC ( yet ), that has caused the link to 'break'. Therefore I suspect it's a setting matter of some kind, but cannot figure out which one and where to (re)set. Also because the problem stays when I try to delete and recreate the link, also by dragging it from the website to the desktop.
Hope this addition give you sufficient information. If not, don't hesitate to ask further questions.
    Thanks in advance.

  • CMD+ any shortcut doesn't work in Safari after upgrading to Yosemite

After upgrading from Mavericks to OS X Yosemite 10.10 not a single CMD+ shortcut works?!
For example CMD+tab works (switching between apps), ctrl+tab works (switching between tabs), but none of these work: CMD+W, CMD+Q, CMD+F, CMD+C, CMD+X, CMD+P...
They all work perfectly fine in all other apps. It's just Safari.
Does anyone have any idea why and how to fix this?

    I have a similar pb :
    CMD+SHIFT+1,2,3,... doesn't work in safari.
I'm using "English interface" with "French keyboard".
following miladc advice and link (Shortcuts not working on Safari and Firefox),
I changed my Language pref to French ... so I got "French interface" with "French keyboard" ... and it worked once !!!!
But it works no more ... very weird
All I want to do, it's having shortcut for my bookmarklet !

  • Command+1 shortcut doesn't work in iTunes 7?

During the years of having iTunes 5 & 6, I used to have those keyboard shortcuts like command+1, command+2 to show the main window of iTunes and Equalizer. This function is really helpful when you choose one song to play, then close the iTunes window to save the space on desktop, then use command+1 to show the main window of iTunes again when you need it. Really convenient.
But since I updated the iTunes 7 yesterday, I sadly found out that the key stroke combination of command+1 doesn't work anymore. Now every time when you need the iTunes window to show up, you have to click the iTunes 7 icon on the dock again. And same as the command+2 for equalizer. Since iTunes 7 erased the equalizer icon on the main pane in the corner right below, this is really not so fast as before to get those windows showed when you need them.
This issue is really unlikely to happen because I checked the new help topics of iTunes 7, there still are the entries of command+1/2 in the help topics, but they just do not work!!! Is that a new bug of iTunes 7?
Anyone has any idea about solving this problem? Or did anyone found the new keyboard shortcuts? Thanks in advance!!!

  • "Get Info" - new shortcut doesn't work

I'm trying to create a more convenient keyboard shortcut for "Get Info" on iTunes, since I use it a lot. I want to replace Command-I with F19 on a full-size aluminum Apple keyboard.
Using the Application Shortcuts I entered F19 as the new "Get Info" shortcut, and iTunes duly shows F19 on the menu; Command-I does not work any longer. So far so good - the problem is that it doesn't work on iTunes. It works in the Finder, I can invoke the Info window of a file that way now, but neither an universal All Applications shortcut or an iTunes specific one will bring up the information of a track, which is what I want.
Any ideas? This seems to be a genuine bug, since the menu is updated properly - it just fails to work.

Yes, of course. I understand you're just trying to rule out the obvious first.

  • Dictionary shortcut doesn't work for me

I found out that we can look up vocabularies on Safari while pressing ControlCommandD. However, I'm unable to bring this feature out no matter how many times I pressed this shortcut.(I even pressed it for 20 sec and nothing happened.)
Yes, I have went to system preferences-keyboard shortcuts-"look up in dictionary", and it is indeed checked. I even tried to change the shortcut setting and it still didn't work.
Any ideas what's wrong and how can I get it to work? Any known programs that may cause the problem? (I have LiveDictionary installed, would this affect the shortcut key?)
(and no, I don't want to use LiveDictionary to replace the build in dictionary feature because it is only a shareware)

    Thank you for the reply.
I only tried this feature on "Safari"; It is a cocoa application, no??
The thing is, it doesn't work. I do not know why. I can't figure out what is causing the problem.
system preferences-keyboard&mouse-keyboard shortcuts tab-"look up in dictionary" <-- it is checked.
So, I don't know why it wouldn't work. I moved my cursor over to the word and pressed controlcommandD for 15-20sec. I even highlighted the word, yet nothing happened.
I still need help on this...

  • Language input switching shortcut doesn't work

Hi! I always use command-space to switch between English and Chinese (Cangjie) input (having disabled this shortcut for Spotlight), but all of a sudden it stops working. I know the command key works and the space bar works, but when I press command-space it does nothing. I have to click on the little language flag to switch language. I also tried restarting the mini.
There is also something weird about the Chinese inputting now but I'll ask that in another post.
    Thanks!

I've been having a similar problem, but a little more elaborate.
It started with my Finder switching on its own from US (my default) keyboard input to Hebrew. I would just switch back using the shortcut (command+space bar), a shortcut I have been using for years without problems. Now the shortcut is giving me problems, and sometimes doesn't work, as steveappleotp describes.
While in Safari, the shortcut failed to work. I checked my System Preferences for language input and nothing had changed. When I used the mouse to open the language input menu, 3 of the 6 languages were grayed out. But this doesn't happen consistently. All of a sudden everything is okay and I don't know how to recreate the problem.
Thought I would post this here as it's recent and related, but maybe I should start another thread.
    Thanks.

  • Keyboards shortcuts doesn't work

    Hello!
All my shortcuts are messed up!
The tab key doesn't work. I can't move from one element to other with this key. If i press F6 it doesn't move to the address bar. Ctrl+C doesn't work, Ctrl+V neither works.
I've try to reinstall it with apt-get install --reinstall

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]

  • Show Desktop shortcut doesn't work anymore...

I've setted SHIFT+F10 as show desktop shortcut, but it doesn't work anymore... in fact no shortcut works anymore, COMMAND/SHIFT/OPTION+F1-2-3-etc.... nothing works!
    someone knows why?

I'm having the same problem. Show Desktop works if I assign it to Shift, Control, or whatever, but it doesn't work when it is assigned to an F-key. Shift/Control/Fn + F-key doesn't work either.
Is there a plist file that I need to trash somewhere?
    Thanks

  • Shortcut doesn't work

There is a shortcut in Safari, by pressing command + 0~9, to open a bookmark on the bookmark bar.
Here I just found that it doesn't work when the caps lock is on.

Try Resetting the Brush Tools from the fly-out menu
Square brackets should reduce or increase the diameter of the brush.

  • Safari 5.0.1 Zoom in shortcut doesn't work

The zoom in shortcut ( cmd + ) doesn't work anymore.
The zoom out shortcut (cmd -) does still work.
Zoom in through the menu does work.
Anybody with similar problems or a solution?
I already tried a restart and disabling Snapz Pro X as I recently updated that.

    HI,
Try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file.
Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon. Then open the Library folder then the Preferences folder. Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop. Now launch Safari. If you can "cmd +" then move that .plist file to the Trash.
Also, empty the cache from the Safari Menu Bar.
If you have any third party Safari add-ons, that could be a factor.
Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari or have performance issues
