R12 Custom Servlet Debugging

Hello Gurus,
I am a novice w.r.t. Java.
We are on EBS R12.1.3.
I have written a custom servlet that will generate BI Publisher output.
Basically the servlet will then be used within Oracle Apps forms to generate the BI Publisher output.
The servlet works fine locally using JDeveloper.
I have now deployed the servlet in R12 server.
When I try to execute the servlet in a browser, it hangs and does not show output. Probably there is some exception somewhere.
Where is the exception logged?
How can I debug the servlet? If I write System.out.println, then what location will it write on the R12 server?
Regards,
Jay

R12 Customer Conversion should be done via  TCA API  OR  Standard interface table? Why ?

We have used interface tables just to have better control and reprocessing abilities. You may need to be little careful about the TCA tables.

  • Forms applet does not load when request forwarded from custom servlet

I have an existing forms app that I wish to call from a newly-developed servlet. The servlet determines which form to call and then forwards the request to the forms servlet using RequestDispatcher.forward().
The request is forwarded correctly but when it is done all I see is a blank browser (IE7) window. When I View Source I see all the correct HTML code (from basejpi.htm) but it seems my browser does not attempt to load the forms applet. No messages are displayed in the Java Console. This is the same HTML that comes back if I run the forms app directly, e.g. click a link that goes straight to the forms servlet URL, only in that case the forms app starts up fine.
Anyone know why this does not work?

Figured out what is going on:
In basejpi.htm there is "<SCRIPT LANGUAGE=JavaScript SRC=java/forms_ie.js>" that creates an OBJECT tag to load the forms applet. I believe since the context of my custom servlet is different than that of the forms servlet, forms_ie.js is not found when the request is forwarded from my servlet.
One question answered raises another. There is also an OBJECT tag inside a NOSCRIPT tag for machines where scripting has been disabled:
<!-- Forms applet definition (start) -->
    <NOSCRIPT>
    <OBJECT name=FormsApplet
    type="application/x-java-applet"
    ...>
    </NOSCRIPT>
    <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript" SRC="java/forms_ie.js"></SCRIPT>
My thinking is to remove the NOSCRIPT tag, and also the SCRIPT tag mentioned above, so all machines will simply see the OBJECT tag, like so:
<!-- Forms applet definition (start) -->
    <OBJECT name=FormsApplet
    type="application/x-java-applet"
    ...>
This makes me wonder why the SCRIPT option is there to begin with. Anyone see a downside to this approach?

  • How to use a custom servlet in iFS?

    Hi,
I'm creating a custom servlet to download files from iFS to local drive. My question is where should I put the servlet class file, and how do I invoke this servlet from a ifs jsp file?
I'm running iFS 1.1.9, with JWS web server.
    Thanx.

  • Urgent--custom servlet not working with https/gateway of the portal server

We have created the custom servlet to add some more authentication to the login screen. I have explained detaildely below.
We have set if password reset change password screen should come by using identity server.
First screen comes which asks user id and password.
after this next screen comes with old password, New Password and Confirm Password (as we have forcefully asked user to change password after reset by using identity server ).
On this page we have added two new filed Date of Birth and Date of Joining.
And we are forcefully transferring request to our Custom Servlet which will validate the Date of Birth and Date of Joining from the database and submit the same a form as required by Login Servlet to validate the default parameters old Password, New Password and Confirm Password (which is the default validation without adding custom Servlet).
This whole process is working with http protocol and giving unable to connect host with https protocol.
Without custom Servlet process is like this, which is working
Login (usrid, password) Login (Old Password, New Password, Confirm Password) Portal home Page
With custom Servlet , Which is not working with https Protocol. we are getting the message "Authentication Failed" screen.
Login (usrid, password) --> Login (Old Password, New Password, Confirm Password , Date of Birth, Date of Joinig) --> Custom Servlet validate Date of Birth, Date of Joining --> Login (Old password, new Password, Confirm Password) --> Protal Home Page
This one works with http, whereas this one gives the "Authentication Failed" screen with the https.
Please let me know if anybody have implemented this and help me to resolve the issue.

  • Accessing ADF context from a custom servlet

I have an ADF web application which has AMs,VOs & JSPXs. I also have another custom servlet which will implement 3rd party integration logic.
    I need to :
    - access the[u] currently live AM ,VO running in my web application from my custom servlet and use that data and send it to the 3rd party
    how do i access the VO/AM/BCs ?
i tried the http://www.thoughtsabout.net/blog/archives/000033.html approach ,but it doesnt seem to work.

    Hi,
note that you can only access this information if the servlet is in the same session as the running application. The "bindings" object and the "data" object are rehistered in the session. So you should be able to pull the "bindings" attribute from the session and cast it to DCBindingContainer.
However, in your servlet you will not have any control over what currently is in the bindings container. So accessing the datacontrol, which is the ADF BC AM is the most you probably can do safely. Note that changes applied from your servlet to the AM are not automatically reflected in the application. For this you need to re-query the iterarors used.

  • Custom servlet authentification

    Hi!
We're working on an e-commerce web site and we need that user with the
same login couldn't enter the secure zone multiply times.
So we've written our custom servlet which checked whether user'd already
    logged in.
Can we acquire list of protected resources listed in
<web-resource-collection> tag or is it better to use custom enviromental
properties where we should store names of the pages to protect.
If the second way is better how to enable SSL switching on and off
entering secure pages and leaving them?
Please help us if you know the solution. We would really appreciate it.
    Thank you in advance.
P.S. If you would like to use mail remove "_NOSPAM".

  • Create Tab is not visible in R12 Customer Form

    Hi,
I am not able to find "Create" tab in R12 Customer form. If i see from Receivables module , not able to see the Create tab , but if i see from Order Management module , I am able to see "Create" tab in Customer form.
    What could be the reason.
    Thanks
    Narayana

    Hi
It could be a issue with the responsibility you are assigned i.e. the rights of create customer might have not been given or have been taken out from your recievables responsibility.
Please give a check at the menus and the functions assigned to your recievables responsibility and also simultaneously make a check to the OM responsibility to find the difference,
    Hope this helps

  • How to get DBconnection from a custom servlet

    Hi all:
In my JHeadstart Struts application, if we will using javascript to call a custom servlet program when some html event occur,
than how can we get db connection in our Servlet because we need get some database data through this Servlet,
we hope this Servlet can share dbconnection pool with JHeadstart that is consider for performance issue.
    thanks a lot !

    Ting Rung,
JHeadstart is based on the Model-View-Controller (MVC) principle. This means that the Model layer is responsible for communication with the database (and thus database connection pooling). Accessing the database directly from a JSP or Servlet is against the principles of MVC. JHeadstart uses BC4J as the technology to implement the model layer. By going through an BC4J Application Module to do some database action (for example calling a stored procedure as you mentioned in another thread) you automatically get the database connection pooling.
So, in the JHeadstart philosophy, we do not access the database from a servlet, instead we would do the following:
    - write a method on the BC4J app module that performs the database action
    - add a method to the apporpriate handler that calls this AM method
    - write a custom Struts action that calls the handler method
Having said this, nobody will stop you from doing database access in a servlet. But JHeadstart might not be the right choice for you if you do not want to stick with the principles of MVC.
Here is a link that provides you with some more background information about MVC, may be it can help you deciding what the best approach for your application is:
    http://java.sun.com/blueprints/guidelines/designing_enterprise_applications_2e/web-tier/web-tier5.html
You can also "google" on model-view-controller if you like.

  • Apex Integration with EBS R12 - javax.servlet.ServletException

    Morning,
We are in the process of upgrading from 11i to R12 and we have found that our method of launching Apex in 11i no longer works in R12. We are trying to follow the following instructions: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/apex/apex-ebs-wp-cabot-consulting-169064.pdf and have created a .jsp file and compiled as per the document. When we try to launch the function from apps though we get:

    Thanks

    Hi,
If the jsp compiled successfully then you may need to bounce your web server before the jsp can be used. See MOS Note 458338.1 for more details.
Actually, now that Oracle have updated their FND Gateway for Apex integration there are only a few situations (such as if you want to pass parameters from the form function to Apex) where you need to use a custom jsp to launch Apex. In most cases you can use the Oracle supplied GWY.jsp to launch your Apex Page. To use this jsp you must apply the EBS R12 patch 12316083 (and patch 12726556 if you are launching from the forms navigator). How to use the GWY.jsp is described in "Extending Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 using Oracle Application Express" white paper.

  • Upgrade from 11i to R12 - Custom Forms,Reports and Workflows

    Dear Community Friends,
We are planning for upgrade from oracle apps 11.5.10.2 to R12.
We have custom Forms,Form Libraries,Reports and Workflows.
Kindly provide me for approach on how to migrate Custom form libraries, reports and Workflows.
I beleive, this thread will exists as one shot point for custom forms, reports, workflow upgradation from 11i to r12 with detailed steps.
I know that many links exists here in the forum for all the above objects mentioned, but still from all those i am able to get a clear picture for oracle forms but not for custom form libraries ,reports and workflows.
Also, this post will provide a low level, practical picture of the steps for those who are in line with this.
Links i have read for all these in our forum are:
    For Custom Forms,
Re: Planning to upgrade from 11i to R12
Re: Custom forms: After upgrading 11i to R12
ofcourse,'n' number of links exists providing metalink notes also.
Hussain,Helios and some others also has given many updates regd this.
    For custom workflow upgradation,
    Upgrade Workflow 11i to R12
    Workflow Upgrade
    Workflow Upgrade
For reports, links mentioned the below metalink notes:
Do Not Compile EBS R12 Reports Using rwconverter.sh or Reports Builder from IDS 10gR2 [ID 786794.1]
Using the OracleAS 10.1.2 Forms and Reports Builders with Oracle Applications Release 12 [ID 444248.1]
Per my understanding, after searching in many threads,i am here by summarising the practical low level steps for custom forms migration
Please correct me,if i am wrong.
    1) Download the Forms(.fmb's) and all PLL's(all the PLL from resource folder in AU_TOP) into a Local Machine Folder
    2) Open the forms using Forms Developer 10G and connect to DB
    3) Compile by clicking compilein Forms Developer and then save it.
    4) Upload the Saved Forms(.fmb's) into the new R12 server(system) in the respective custom paths(paths similar to 11i Server)
    5) Compile all the forms using the command like below(example command is shown below or f60 gen commands or frmcmp.sh utility) in the respective custom form paths,
    this will generate the .fmx's.
    frmcmp_batch module=FORMNAME.fmb userid=apps/apps output_file=FORMNAME.fmx compile_all=yes
    Link for compiling forms: https://support.oracle.com/epmos/faces/ui/km/SearchDocDisplay.jspx?_afrLoop=359210362972527&type=DOCUMENT&id=1085928.1&displayIndex=3&_afrWindowMode=0&_adf.ctrl-state=c348xvwbg_98
    6) Open the form and check in R12 instance
As per my understanding for custom form libraries,we can just copy paste the PLL's from 11i server to R12 server (Please correct me,if i am wrong)
Can anyone please help me out in custom reports and custom workflows.Sorry that,i could not get a practical and clear picture for reports and also for workflow even after referring many threads and metalink notes mentioned.
As for reports, some says that Developer Suite 10g can be used and .rdf can be used in R12.
Some says that reports should be converted to XML published as reports does not exists in R12.
So,i am not clear on this.
    Thanks,

So,i am not clear on this. You can still use RDF files in R12, and just follow the approach you mentioned above, and you do not have to migrate them to XML publisher (though it is recommended, but this can be done after the upgrade as an enhancement task).
For custom workflow, you need also to do the same thing, open them using workflow builder and make sure they work in R12 (correct the code if required and save them again in R12 once they work properly).

  • JSP compiler obfuscates generated servlet debug line numbers

Here's something that's been baffling me for a couple of days now.
When WebLogic parses a JSP into servlet Java source, and then compiles the Java
source into a class, it seems to perform a further step to obfuscate debug line
numbers in the _jspService method. This converts the debug line numbers from Java
source code line numbers into JSP line numbers.
At first sight, this may appear to be useful- it means that when an exception
is thrown then it references a line number in the original JSP rather than one
in the generated servlet. However, it actually makes life more difficult when
              you consider included JSPs.
Suppose you have a file loginresult.jsp, which uses @include to include a header.jsp
and footer.jsp, both of which contain dynamic content. When WebLogic converts
line numbers, it ignores the JSP that the code came from, so this causes a many-to-one
mapping of line numbers. When an error occurs, the exception will tell you the
line number that it came from, but it won't tell you which JSP caused it. The
many-to-one mapping ensures a loss of information- and no way of retrieving the
              real line numbers.
This is an even bigger nuisance when trying to debug JSPs- the debugger hops around
in the generated servlet file without giving any clue as to whereabouts it really
              is in the code.
My question is: is there any way of switching off this post-processor behaviour?
One obvious way would be to locate the WebLogic class that does this post-processing,
stub it out and run WebLogic with this class higher up in the classpath. But that's
              a last resort.
Secondly, would there be any other impact in turning off this behaviour? Do other
parts of WebLogic rely on this?
              Thanks in advance,
              Kevin.

Actually, this option turns line-number table replacement on and off, for example,
              with jsp like this:
              test.jsp

  • Servlet Debugging

I have an abstract servlet class extending HttpServlet; from that abstract class I have a few subclasses, but I cannot debug those subclasses within JDev, although they run fine on server? Is this a bug of JDev?
    I am using JDev 3.1.1.2

This bug seems not to be fixed in JDev 3.2
Currently I try to avoid to subclass from other than HttpServlet...
It may be possible to create a additional startup servlet, which calls the other subclassed servlet, which is not recognized as a runable program
I hope Oracle provides a bug fix in the near future. I am really dissapointed thas this known bug was not fixed in JDev.

  • Migrating a Forms 6i custom application to Oracle Apps R12 custom bolt on

    Hi,
I need to migrate an oracle forms custom application built in 6i to sit within oracle apps R12 (Forms 10g) and use Oracle Apps user authentication and session. It could become a custom bolt on to Oracle Apps and might be accessed from a custom responsibility in oracle applications.
    a) How easy/difficult is this?
    b) What are the challenges or things to look for to do this migration?
    Thanks,
    Ayyappa

    Hi,
We have two node architecture for R12.1.1 on windows 2008 32 Bit. One node for Database and the other node for application.
As we are facing a lot of memory issues, we are planning to go for 64 Bit.
I Have already read the document
Migrating Oracle E-Business Suite R12 to Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 [ID 1188535.1]
The doc says in place OS upgrades are not supported....
    So my question is...
While keeping the production, how can i migrate using the same servers. Coz my company does not want to buy new servers..
Please suggest.Complete all the steps in the doc for Rapid Clone and other steps, then take a backup of the files after you run preclone and create a trace file for the database. Once you have the backup ready, install a 64-bit version of the OS and install 11gR2 software and restore the files from the backup and complete the migration.
    Thanks,
