Hello, I recently got my R6950 twin frozr III OC edition yesterday. Plugged it in, ran the install drivers, worked like a charm. About an hour later had a comp freeze, was just browsing the web with firefox 4.
Had to manually power down and restart. Rebooted, everything was fine. Started playing Rift, no troubles. About an or 2 in, same thing, game freeze. Happened 4 times in the course of about 30 mins. I decided to call it for the night.
Today, so far, 3 hangs, 2 were from Rift, 1 was from World of warcraft. All scenarios was i was sitting in the main city talking with guildmates. No stress or mad activity going on. Noticed my temp was hovering 47-49C.
Not sure what the problem is. Looking for some help/answers.
Note, that nothing was tinkered with and everything would be stock settings.

I was previously using the radeon 5770 from sapphire that i got last year and wanted something beefier. Unfortunately my case is the only one large enough to have room for this card.

It can PSU fault or driver issue, or VGA failure
Remove current VGA drivers with >>Driver Sweeper<< in Safe Mode
then install drivers from msi web for your card, then see how its goes

  • MSI R6950 Twin Frozr III PE/OC "No Signal"?

    Hi guys!
I've just bought the MSI R6950 Twin Frozr III PE/OC, but my monitor dosent recieve any signal at all. Both power cables are plugged in, and my PSU should be big enough to manage it.
The slot works fine with my old card, a HD 5450, so is my card faulty?
    Win 7 32 bit
    Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H55M USB3 rev 2.0
    Proccesor: Intel Core i5 2.80
    PSU: OCZ600MXSP 600W
    Memory: 4GB

The card has two power cables, which both are plugged in. If not, a red LED lights up in the card.
I've just removed the power cable form the mobo and removed the battery from the mobo to do a clear CMOS, but unfortunately with the same results. The fans are running, but my screens says "No Cable" and goes completely black

  • Two displays for MSI R6950 Twin Frozr III Power Edition/OC graphics card ?

Is it possible to have two displays simultaneously connected to this graphics card:
    http://www.msi.com/product/vga/R6950-Twin-Frozr-III-Power-Edition-OC.html#?div=Overview
The card has two DVI-outputs "DVI Output: 2 (Single-Link DVI-D x1, Dual-Link DVI-I x1)".  I can use one display at a time and the second display only shows "No signal" error. I would like to use two displays when playing PC games, is it possible with this craphics card? Both my displays have VGA connector cables, and they are connected to the card with an VGA/DVI adapter.

what monitors you are using and what resolutions you're trying to use?
Both monitors are old models: 1) Panasonic PanaFlat PF90 2) acer AL 707.
I'm not sure what resolution I was using on acer when I tried to connect both monitors, but now I'm using PanaFLat with 1280 x 1024. Maybe I should try to set them both on 1024 x 768 and try again.

  • R6950 Twin Frozr III Power Edition/OC goes to full power when in idle

My R6950 Twin Frozr III Power Edition/OC acts normally, when i use the PC. When it goes to idle, the card heats up and turns the speed to 100%. When i remove the drivers there's no problem. I've tried with the different drivers there and on the AMD page.

  • R6950 Twin Frozr III 2gb Problem

Hi guys, got a problem with one of my cards that is in Crossfire..
    Setup - i7 920, 20gb Gskill DDR3 1600mhz, Asus P6T Deluxe, Corsair AX950w 80+, 2 x  R6950 Twin Frozr III 2gb Catalyst 12.3
Problem - These card's have been fine for around 6 months working in crosfire. Last couple of days defects have started to appear and now one of the card fails to be reckognized. I have taken out the card and tried it in another system and the system wont even post. I have tried switching the fan profile to see if this helps but still no post. 1st card is working perfectly in my main system and other systems I have.
Even bigger Problem - The shop where I have purchased the cards "SELEXIUM" last year is now bankrupt. Here is the article http://www.societe.com/societe/sarl-nextware-504241654.html
So I really dont know what to do, I have logged a ticket with msi to see if they can help..
Does anybody have experiance with MSI and returning cards directly to them in Europe ? Will they accept a RMA from a End User ?

for europe, its only via reseller.
contact near MSI office and explain the situation.

  • MSI R6950 Twin Frozr III PE strange heat issue!

Hi guys, yesterday i've decided to upgrade my PC with brand new Sandy Bridge configuration, but after the first boot i've had a very unpleasant surprize with my VGA card .Right after power on my PC everything went good, display was on and showing the Bios Setup screen, but after 30-40 seconds my the VGA fans started to spin at full speed and restarted the system but after that my 40" lcd display was only showing  "no signal detected" .From this point i've tried everything to get my system going,i've disabled the onboard VGA,swapped RAM modules, toggle every PCI and PCI-E add-on cards, bios reset but the issue was still there.
A couple of times i've managed to get into Windows OS but after 10 second the PC restarted again.I'm not really sure what's the issue here but i do noticed that after 10 second from boot the VGA card is getting very hot (can touch it only for 1 second) but only in the area near the power connectors, next to the capacitors...
    Here's my configuration:
    - CPU: Intel i5 2500K
    - MoBo: Asrock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3
    - RAM: Corsaire Vengence 8GB (2x4GB) DDR 1866
    - PSU: Enermax Liberty 620 W
    - VGA: MSI R6950 Twin Frozr III PE
    - Case: Cooler Master HAF-X
BTW,my old MSI Radeon HD4870 is working with the above configuration and i also tested the MSI R6950 Twin Frozr III PE on 3 different PCs same had same issue,so if you guys have any idea about this issue please post here.

Yeah,i've already compiled the RMA form with the retailer but it doesn't have this VGA in stock anymore.I really hope it won't need months for the RMA procedure.

  • R6950 Twin FROZR III Fan Replacement

Simple question, Where can I buy a replacement fans for this card?  One of the fans has 2 broken fins and the other is not spinning @ full speed so I get vibration from one and the other can't cool enough.

dunno if r6950 Twin FROZR III has reference PCB or not,
you can ask msi at: >>How to contact MSI.<<
About the aftermarket cooler, you should ask the aftermarket cooler company, they should have compatibility list

  • R6950 Twin Frozr III Issue

Ok, brand new build P8P67 Pro (Rev 3) initially boots up fine and I install windows. The next day I get no output to monitor with my MSI 6950 Twin Frozr III, also motherboard is beeping to indicate no VGA detected. Put it in second PCI-E slot and bingo, it works but it's at 8x.
Presume mobo faulty, got an MSI Z68A GD65, I get the exact same problem, won't show anything in primary slot but will run fine in secondary at 8x.
I really don't understand what the problem could be if not the graphics card in this case.
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Rest of the spec:
    i5 2600k (stock speed)
    Corsair TX 650,
    Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz.

reseat the card into the slot and ensure that's filled very well into the PCI-E slot
also ensure that all power cables are connected to the VGA.

  • MSI R6950 Twin Frozr III Power Edition – Replacement Heat Sink?

    Hello,
Does anyone know of a good 3rd party heat sink that will definitely fit this non reference card? We all know that manufactures such has Artic, Thermalright and Prolimatech make such heat sinks, but of course they are for reference cards. I'm sure you can understand that I don't want to make any expensive mistakes!
    Thanks,
    Krutish.

    Thanks for the reply flobelix.
My main concern was the amount of decibels this card produced when pushed, not its thermal properties. Under high stress the card would peak at 80-85c with a fan speed of anywhere around 80-100%. Normal gaming temps would be around 65c-75c depending on game, or gaming environment, with matching fan speeds. That is why I was looking for a replacement, the temps  were within the manufactures tolerances, even if a little high, but the db's were well outside of  mine!
However, the situation as changed somewhat. While messing around inside the case trying to improve airflow I accidentally touched the heat-sink assembly, and upon doing so the fan instantly roared to 100% and the temps started to shoot up. I wiggled the assembly again and the fan and temps dropped back! So it seemed like the heat-sink was lose! I removed the card and tightened the screws a little, this solved the problem in regards to the temp/fan shooting up, but the temps were still high!
The next step was to completely remove the heat-sink, give it a good clean and replace the thermal compound in the hope that this would solve the noise/heat problem. It was at this point that I spotted the problem! The GPU was absolutely caked in thermal compound, so much so that all of the resistors around the GPU were also covered in thermal grease, (Don't these guys know less is better?) good job they hadn't used a metal based thermal compound, that could have wrecked the card!
Anyway, I removed the mess and used TIM-clean to dissolve what was left and finished the clean up with isopropanol. I applied a small amount of compound, replaced the heat-sink and Bobs your uncle! Max loads so far, GPU 64c – Fan speed 55%... That I can live with!
So there you have it, this card as been noisy and running hot from the day I brought it, but I didn’t know any better, I've never seen or heard a MSI R6950 in action before, now I have!
    Made In China. (Sad Face)
    Krutish
Oh almost forgot... i heard off Artic, they recommend the Twin Turbo II, Xtreme II or the Xtreme III for this card!

  • R6950 Twin Frozr III Power Edition/OC Cross Fire Temps

    Hello all,
I'm running 6950 in cross fire with the factory setting core-850 and memory-1300.
But i dont know if the temps are good
Idle it's 40 and the 2e cards 38 degree celsius.
But when i play BF3 on High settings it runs up to 75 degree celsius and the 2e card 68 degree celsius.
    I got a i7 920 in a Silverstoe raven Rv01. And 2 pci slots between the cards.
    My Pc ^
Is this normal or is this hot?

Temperatures are rather normal if you are running several demanding  graphic programs or games.
To keep them down ... just use MSI Afterburner and preset your Fan Speed or can also set to Auto.
About 35-40c IDLE  is common and also very good.   Near 70c at Full Load is acceptable. 75c-80c when playing several hours Full Load is typical.
I would not worry about the HD6950's performances or temps.  but if they reach 90c plus then something undesirable maybe occuring.
Every quarter (3 months) or 4 times a year. Be sure to use Dust Buster blow out the Fans [be sure your computer is electrically UnPlugged] or take your PC system to be cleaned/ nothing like your computer
choking on dust as a well maintained computer will last for many years.
I like your system photo.. looks nice!
    Enjoy !!!!!

    Greetings,
    The stock specs for this card are;
    Core: 850 Mhz
    Memory: 1300 Mhz
I did manage to unlock the card to 6970 and unlocked shaders.
Can I put the core to 880 Mhz and 1375 Mhz for memory (these are stock specs for standard 6970).
    Regards,

  • Has my R6950 Twin Frozr III just died? :(

Getting this when playing battlefield 3. I've tried reinstalling AMD Catalyst.

Sorry, don't have another compatible PC.
Also, it's getting lower 3DMark scores than it should. And reporting low clock speeds. 250Mhz core clock and 150MHz memory clock. Set to 850, and 1300 in afterburner
