RAC implementation praposal

Hi,
Does any one has a RAC implementation proposal document.
Currently preparing on document but not getting many points.
Any advices.
Thanks in advance.

Yes. It is very difficult to convience, get the right resouces and manage them.
Key factors are high availability and scalability. When application connected to an instance and it crashes, the connection moves transparently to surviving node. DMLs may affect. However, application won't lose connection.
On demand you can add and remove node according load, grid concept.
In addition providing the document, you can setup a test envrionment using VM and show the high availability demo.
You can start with standard edition with ASM if applicaiton doen't require enterprise features. It will cost less.

  • Oracle 10g RAC implementation running out of space

I have an Oracle RAC implementation setup on a Sun Storagetek 6140 for storage. I have allocated 100gb of space to Oracle but am constantly running out of space during operations. I know that i can allocate additional disk space using Common Array Manager for the Storagetek. How do i get ASM to recognize the fact that there is additional space available to it?

    Hi buddy,
How do i get ASM to recognize the fact that there is additional space available to it?You have two options:
1- The first one is create a new LUN, configure it at the OS level and add the disk to disk group.
    alter diskgroup add disk '<DISK_DEVICE_PATH>';
2- The second one is increasing the LUN size (if possible, of course) and resize the disk.
    alter diskgroup <DISK_GROUP_NAME> resize disk '<DISK_NAME>' <NEW_SIZE>;
    Hope it helps,

  • Oracel RAC implementation experience

    Dear All,
Has any one successfully implemented Oracle RAC on Solaris 10/SPARC on a production box for SAP ECC/SRM etc...?. Can u Pl share your experience? Will Oracle RAC be supported in future or is it going to be phased out by SAP? How robust is the Oracle RAC implementation? Is it advisable to take the Oracle RAC route?
    Thanks for all your inputs.

    Hi
Hey are you asking for the Implementation methodology used by SAP-XI.It is known as
    AcceleratedSAP (ASAP) Roadmap.
The ASAP Methodology has five phases:
    1. Project Preparation – project formally initiated and planning well under way.
    2. Business Blueprint – project team gathers requirements and conducts conceptual design of the solution.
    3. Realization – system solution is built and integration tested, end users trained
    4. Final Preparation – final check before cut over to new system solution
    5. Go Live & Support – solution confirmation, on-going support in place and project closing
The ASAP Implementation Roadmap for Exchange Infrastructure provides guidance for the implementation teams embarking on implementation project of SAP XI Solution.

  • Oracle RAC implementation scenario

    Hello DB Experts,
I have got a very specific business scenario to be implemented.
Basically we need to implement 2 Node RAC infrastructure.
But in this on each node we have 2 oracle instances running.
Now is it possible to have one Instance running on Active / Active mode and another instance in Active / Passive mode.
First of all i want to know it is possible to implement RAC in this manner.
If yes, then for Active / Passive instance if Active instance goes down how to switch the traffic to the passive node? Or basically i want to know how do i make that passive node active?
Would really appreciate some quick response.
    Thanks,
    Darshan

Lets assume some better names for this discussion...
RAC Database MYDB (instance on node1 = MYDB1, instance on node2=MYDB2)
SI Database URDB (instance on node1 = URDB with active/passive on node2)
Can this be done? Yes. But why? You can use SERVICES to limit on which node your application is accessing.

  • Oracle 9i RAC implementation!!!!!

I am trying to implement oracle 9i RAC on top of Sun cluster 3.1.I have the done following
    1)Installed OS- 8 and patches
    2) Installed sun cluster 3.1(two node cluster)
    3)Installed vxvm on both nodes.
    According to RAC manual
1)rootdg (disk group) need to be local
2)share another disk group for oracle(where volumes would be created)
Since I got only 2 hard disk as local and 1 holding the root filesystem, its obvious rootdg will have to be on disk2.If thats the case, can I create a volume in rootdg and install oracle binaries on it?

  • Seeking a solid reccomendation concerning 10g RAC implementation.

I need a solid recommendation regarding what hardware I should use for my planned Oracle 10g RAC environment.
Currently, I am looking for both node and SAN recommendations.
I also created a list of 11 questions that I need to have answered.
Here is how this will be configured:
    3 Node Oracle 10g RAC
    Each Node will consist of:
    32Gb of RAM (minimum)
Windows 2003 64-bit Enterprise (corporate standard, but I can go with Windows 2008 if I have a valid justification)
    74Gb RAID 1 (minimum)
    Dual 10Gb Ethernet NICs
    The SAN will consist of:
    750Gb-3Tb dedicated to Oracle
    10Gb Ethernet NICs
Here are some of my general questions:
1.) Are there any benchmarks or case studies that you are aware of that might help in the decision process regarding hardware?
2.) Where should my backups reside (SAN or elsewhere)?
3.) What margin should be added for SAN provisioning and waste (even if thin provisioning is implemented)?
4.) My CIO has decided to direct me to go with 10GbE copper instead of fiber channel, what unplanned hiccups can I expect?
5.) What are the caveats of running dual redundant SAN systems?
6.) We are currently using DELL hardware for all other systems, however I do have the freedom to change the vendor for this particular project if I can state a valid business justification. Any other vendors out there that make a better SAN or Node solution than Dell/EMC?
7.) How much local storage do I need on each node?
8.) Can I utilize 1 node to run ETL during production hours without drastically affecting database performance?
9.) Regarding the maintenance of this setup, are their any particular classes or training you would recommend? I am a seasoned Oracle DBA, but could use any specific training on the specifics of RAC and/or general performance.
10.) Are there specific advantages in Oracle 11g RAC vs. 10g that would be worth the cost of upgrading our 1000+ 10g user licenses?
11.) Are there any studies on the performance advantages/disadvantages of running Oracle 10g on Windows vs. Solaris (or any Unix)?
I will consider all input of high value, so please let me know what you would recommend.
    Thank you for your time.

please find answers that i know for some questions.
1.) Are there any benchmarks or case studies that you are aware of that might help in the decision process regarding hardware?
2.) Where should my backups reside (SAN or elsewhere)?
=> what is the backup method you will be using? certainly recommend RMAN (in addition to OS backups that you are planning to use) for block recovery, should there a block corruption.
i would keep some copies on the SAN local and mirror to DR site too.
3.) What margin should be added for SAN provisioning and waste (even if thin provisioning is implemented)?
=> do not suggest thin provisioning for production.
how big the volumes are going to be? reason for asking the Q is, if the volumes are going to be in TB, percentages can be lower. please plan for 2 years atleast.
=> have beetween 75GB to 100GB. hope you are going to have only ORACLE RDBMS and CRS software in here.
please make sure that you rotate your listener logs and alert logs and regular removal of old .trc files older than certain number of days old.
8.) Can I utilize 1 node to run ETL during production hours without drastically affecting database performance?
=> node usage will help from CPU standpoint only. what about the disk writes it is going to perform to the data files?
9.) Regarding the maintenance of this setup, are their any particular classes or training you would recommend? I am a seasoned Oracle DBA, but could use any specific training on the specifics of RAC and/or general performance.
=> attend a 5 day course from Oracle. install RAC on own and play with it.
10.) Are there specific advantages in Oracle 11g RAC vs. 10g that would be worth the cost of upgrading our 1000+ 10g user licenses?
=> did not compare, though installed 11g.
11.) Are there any studies on the performance advantages/disadvantages of running Oracle 10g on Windows vs. Solaris (or any Unix)?
=> running on windows? please do not. used on linux a lot. pretty stable and solid. recommend to go with 10.2.0.4 or higher.
    hope the above will help.

  • Oracle11gR2 SCAN IP address (RAC implementation)

    Hello
If you refer to [http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/rac.112/e10743/preparing.htm] (2 Day + Real Application Clusters Guide
11g Release 2) it has assigned three IP addresses for SCAN (while it uses two servers)
during installation it creates three more IP addresses on those two nodes and defines three SCAN_LISTENER for them (one of servers has two SCAN_LISTENER and another one has one SCAN_LISTENER)
My question is if we wanna implement RAC on more that two servers , do we need assign more than three IP addresses ? if yes what is rate of SCAN IP addresses number to server number ?
    thanks

You will always have three dedicated IPs for SCAN, regardless of the number of nodes in your cluster.

  • Oracle RAC implementation for SJSWS

    Hi,
we have a requirement to set up Sun Java system webserver with Oracle RAC.
Please let me know the implemetation details, like how to setup multiconnections/datasource in Webserver console.
any details with respect to this are appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

good point. we don't have a write up yet. but it should be pretty straight forward.
pl. refer to our documentation on how to add jdbc resource within web server 7.
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/821-0793/gczly?l=en&a=view
from what i understand, you will need to use the jdbc driver and JNDI resource for the Oracle RAC

  • OVM disks for RAC implementation

    Dear All
is there any guide available on how can you create the disks for RAC ASM in OVM 3.3.1 using a fiber channel block level storage?
    Thanks
    George

You are right, you can't use virtual disks for RAC configuration. Have a look here (especially page 18):
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/products/clustering/oracle-rac-in-oracle-vm-environment-131948.pdf
Using physical disks means that you create LUNs on your storage array connected to Oracle VM Servers by fabric channel. You map these LUNs to all servers in the pool or all standalone servers where you are going to install your virtual machines being Clusterware nodes. Then you rediscover storage in Oracle VM Manager, mark these LUNs as "shared" in OVMM and add them to your virtual machines as "Physical disks" (by editing guest properties in OVMM).
Alternatively you can directly map iSCSI or NFS storage to your guests. By "directly" I mean you use IP addresses and software in your guests as iSCSI initiator or NFS client - without engaging Oracle VM in the middle.

  • RAM for RAC implementation

    Dear All,
It is not a core requirement of RAC that the RAM in both machines has to be exactly the same?
I have 2 linux machines with 16 GB and 14 GB RAM respectively.
After installation the RAM might be updated to 16 GB in both machines.

    Hi,
It doesn't have to be match in term of memory but all nodes must meet minimum memory requirement

  • Firewire RAC implementation

    Greetings.
I've been attempting to follow instructions to build an Oracle RAC environment using firewire and firewire harddrives.
On http://otn.oracle.com/tech/linux/open_source.html, I grabbed the appropriate files from the "Firewire Patches" section.
Oracle provides 2.4.20rc2-orafw kernel binaries w/ a matching ocfs.o module. I can get those to load up and run OCFS and the two servers can see the shared firewire disk. GREAT.
However, I'm confused as to how I'm supposed to get HangCheck to go. They don't provide a hangcheck.o to match the 2.4.20rc2-orafw kernel. They do provide some source to it, so I downloaded the 2.4.20rc2-orafw kernel source, but there was no .config in there, so I don't know what options they used to build their existing kernel binaries. They also didn't include the ocfs module source for the 2.4.20rc2-orafw build they made.
I'm lost now and don't know how to proceed.
Can anyone offer some ideas? Has anyone used the code available on the open source page and had a full success? Did you happen to document your work?
    Thanks!
    Josh

  • RAC implementation

    Hi
I have setup a tiny database in a development box in AIX and 10.2.0.2. I am not using ASM. Now I want to access the same database with two different instances. Right now I am using only on instance and on the same server. Can I upgrade this databse to use RAC or I will have to create a new database? Also can I use the two instances on the same box where the databsae exist?
    Thanks

    Hi,
we are on R12.0.6 with 2 node 10g RAC. Our collegue did the RAC setup, I was not there at that moment
    steps he followed is
    1. Installed 10g CRS,ASM 10.2.0.3 software and bring up the two nodes.
    2. Configured the RAC DB to Oracle Appplication and registered the Listener with CRS.
