Radial Shading Specification in Adobe Technical Note 5600

Given s, the value of t can be found, which is then passed to the Function
key. The value(s) returned by Function is/are used to determine the color at
the position (x, y). If both roots of the equation are in the domain [0 1], then
the larger value of s defines the color because it comes after the smaller value
and thus overlays it. For values of s outside the domain [0,1], the Extend
values determine how the shading will be painted. The following rules hold
true for pixel coordinates (x,y) satisfying the above equation.
• If the start (first) Extend value is false, then pixels corresponding to values
of s < 0 are left unpainted or are painted with the Background color, if
one is specified.
• If the end (last) Extend value is false, then pixels corresponding to values
of s > 1 are left unpainted or are painted with the Background color, if
one is specified.
• If the start Extend value is true and r[s] >= 0, then pixels corresponding
to the values of s < 0 are painted with the start color.
• If the end Extend value is true and r[s] >= 0, then pixels corresponding to
values of s > 1 are painted with the end color.
The first part is clear when both the roots are within the domain [0 1] but when one root is within the domain and the the other root is outside the domain is not clear.
I am requesting you people here to clearly explain the possible cases considering the roots (s)?
Thanks & Regards
Raquib

  • Adobe does not recognize footers in Microsoft Word 2007 to PDF

    I have copied and pasted the details, below, from a previous message I have sent out to an assistive technology listserv.
    I am encountering this problem with various builds and versions of Adobe Acrobat:
    Acrobat X on a Windows Vista 64-bit build (note that this is the best Acrobat I can install on Windows Vista, Adobe Reader XI is not even supported)
    Acrobat X on a Windows XP build, sorry, do not know the bit count (it is my work computer so I can't upgrade anything)
    Acrobat 9 on a Windows 7 64-bit build.
    I have also encountered and checked into whether or not the PDF reads (and does what I want it to) in JAWS 14, latest update (Feb 2013). We encounter the same problem with JAWS and this morning found out that there is a conversion error between Word and Adobe. (See this post, where the ---- are).
    Summary, I have spoken with JAWS, put out a support ticket with NVDA via e-mail, spoken with Microsoft, and tried to communicate with Adobe about this issue for help and Adobe is refusing to help. The other places tried everything they knew but they could not get it to work. I even tried to strip all the page numbers from Word and number using Adobe's page numbering feature, but that was not successful either because I cannot use Roman numerals.
    I would appreciate any feedback the Adobe Forums can give me; please note that I cannot post a sample document at this time as the only document I have is a private work document (cannot share those by policy, so I will have to make up a fake document if I get the time and energy).
    Thank you very much for your time and expertise. The pertient info is above and below in "Original Message" and "Activities section" - the other information is there if you'd like to look. And to provide feedback to Adobe about things I think they could improve, since they will not let me email them directly.
    ----Original Message----
    My question concerns the reading of Footers / Headers in Microsoft Word 2007 and Adobe Acrobat (headers/footers designed in Microsoft Word 2007 and then converted to PDF with "Bookmark" checked in Adobe Acrobat conversion settings).
    The document is a word document containing 50+ pages. There are 12 pages of "front matter" that are marked with Roman numerals. Subsequently, the body text of the document has an Arabic number (1, 2, 3, 4, etc.) in the bottom right corner. Footers are used properly in the document. All Table of Contents links, which do link to both headings in the "front matter" and to headings in the body text, are picked up properly. Literately, the only thing not reading on the document are page numbers (the Word Status bar is reading its page numbers, but the page numbers in the footer are not reading).
    I then need to convert the document to Adobe Acrobat PDF. Granted, I have a full copy of Adobe Acrobat X available to me, and my various assistive technologies have always functioned better when opened directly in Acrobat (rather than Adobe Reader). So, I set the accessibility options (from Word) properly, asking it to bookmark Headers and Footers as appropriate, thinking that this will pick up the page numbers and make them read as the bottom right corner of my PDF.
    All links work in Adobe to navigate by section/heading. All figures are alt tagged. Everything is perfect - but the one thing that NVDA won't read are the page numbers. Visually, the page numbers are there on the document, but NVDA won't pick them up. Additionally, I also changed the appropriate page numbers in Adobe (Page Thumbnail Pane, on the Navigation Pane I believe it is called) - to reflect the section where it is Roman numerals and Arabic numerals. This did not help, and for what it is worth, I cannot get NVDA to voice when I am in this pane, so I don't seem to have a chance of getting the page number info from there.
    NVDA reads the document just fine except for the above-mentioned snare. However, when it reads, it will go to the next page, and say, "Page 2 of 54, (page text), Page 3 of 54 (page text)," etc. when I will need it to say Page ii of 54 (page text), Page iii of 54 (page text)," and so on, changing to "Page 1" when the Arabic numbers are used.
    I know that the Page Label issue is part of Adobe's issue, with them not releasing the PageLabel aspect. (I have looked through some NVDA tickets). I do not know how to put a "changeset" into my copy of NVDA though, or even if it would help (I have no computer scripting skill). The easy answer would be to upgrade to Adobe Reader XI and see if that helps, but I don't have the ability to put it on every computer I use, and *I need this file to read consistently across multiple versions of Adobe* (including Adobe Reader/Acrobat 9, X, and XI). (This file is also going out to people who may not have the latest version of Adobe, but are also running some copy of NVDA, either a portable or a full install).
    Is there any way to pick up the Footers with page numbers voicing in NVDA, and/or have it read the user-editable page number box that is on Adobe's Toolbar (next to the 1 of 54 parentheses). This user-editable box, to jump to page numbers, reflects the Roman numerals I have loaded into the pages of Adobe. When I press Ctrl+Shift+N in Adobe, I can also go to the appropriate page (if I type in iii, it will take me to iii, if I type in 34, it will take me to the Arabic number 34 -- NOT the 34 of 54, which would land me on a different page. And I want to land on the page that has the Arabic 34, so that's functioning fine.
    I just need the page numbers in the footer to voice, "Page iii," or "Page iv," or "Page 29," etc. If I could get NVDA to do that, I could say to viewers of this document, "If you are using NVDA, remember to Ctrl+Shift+N to get the GoTo Box, then type in the page number you want if you cannot follow a link or a bookmark." This document is *very* accessible in my opinion with lots of ways to navigate...the only aspect of navigation that isn't being picked up are those footer page numbers!
    I do have my Document Formatting settings on the NVDA menu set to "Report Headers," but that does not seem to help in either Microsoft Word 2007 or Adobe Acrobat. I have even switched the page numbers from the footer to the header to see if that would help and it didn't.
    ----Activities I have done today----
    I spent over an hour on the phone today with Freedom Scientific (makers of JAWS) trying to troubleshoot this. We discovered that Footers will not read very well in JAWS and Microsoft Word 2007 (only solution is to stop reading document text and read Virtual Viewer text briefly, then go back out to document text, then back into Virtual Viewer which is NOT an acceptable or accessible solution whatsoever -- too much work for someone trying to read the document) -- and then we also discovered that:
    Upon conversion from Word 2007 to .txt file (.docx to .txt), there are no alt tags for the figures in the document, or page numbers.
    Upon conversion from Word 2007 to Adobe Acrobat X then to .txt file, every insert of a page number and footer is replaced with the same alt numberpad numerical code: the one that generates female. ♀No wonder JAWS and NVDA are skipping this, neither understand how to communicate it.
    On the advice of JAWS Technical Support I contacted Microsoft Accessibility Technical Support and spent an hour on the phone with them. They say that unless Adobe can find a solution, it appears that it is impossible for Microsoft products to read the footer if JAWS was unsuccessful doing what I wanted it to do. The document/footer in question includes about 12 pages of front matter (numbered in Roman numerals) and 44 pages of body text (numbered in Arabic numerals).
    I kindly explained to the Microsoft Support Agent that I found this issue hard to believe, although I understood. Sighted folks have the ability to make their documents look quite professional and that is the caliber and quality of documents anticipated from everyone, especially college students graduating from school, or job applicants. That a coding issue prevents the footer from being read properly, except in Edit view, is disappointing. The representative was with me 100% of the way. She completely understood where I came from. And yes, when I am designing the document myself, I know what I put there (or I pretty much do, anyway). But if I recieve a document, it is much harder to tell what is really there or not, or how the page numbers really lay. And this is confusing as heck, believe me.
    I then called Adobe Technical Support, after having a brief online chat with them. Granted, I had to leave the chat in the middle because I got interuptted by something that was high-priority, but the woman chatting from Adobe says that chat is only for installation issues, and I will have to pay to open a support ticket. Excuse me? I have paid a hefty sum of money for Adobe Acrobat 9 and Adobe Acrobat X (work paid for the other Acrobat X copy). I deserve this problem to be troubleshooted for free. There was even a statement on the Adobe Acrobat X website that said Acrobat X users didn't have to pay for support, but Reader users did.
    ----Slight bit of rant and constructive criticism----
    In speaking with Adobe Technical Support, I had to wait on hold for 30 minutes before my call was answered, and then I had to consent to being on hold countless times and had to answer, "Yes, I am converting from Word 2007 to PDF using Adobe Acrobat X" at least 6 times. The representative would put me on hold, then ask me the question, then put me on hold again, repeated 6 times over 45 minutes. At the end of 45 minutes (1 hour and 20 minutes of wasted time by now, that I must justify to my employer) - I told the representative I wanted to speak with his supervisor immediately, I did not care if he was trying to fill out a support ticket (and putting me on hold at least 4 more times in 10 minutes while he claimed he was filling out the support ticket) - and finally he put me on hold again and gave me to a very helpful supervisor. Within 6 minutes of speaking with the supervisor the supervisor had my support ticket filled out and I should recieve a call from Adobe within the next 30 minutes if his estimation was right (he estimated two hours, but it's been an hour and a half).
    I have yet to know what can be done about my document. Freedom Scientific Technical Support is closed now for the day and I need to work tomorrow and Friday away from the phone. As I stated to Microsoft Accessibility Support, I truly feel that Adobe should read the page footers, every document says that Adobe should be able to read the page footers, and I feel slighted that as a person who uses assistive technology, there is some glitch that isn't making this happen. I am not blaming a specific place per se, except I am a little frustrated with Adobe especially since they have not gotten back to me, and I am frustrated with their customer service. JAWS customer service and Microsoft customer service were both exemparly, and I cannot say enough good things about them. My wasted time with Adobe however, that was disrespect in my opinion. And I certainly will not pay to open a support ticket, and my workplace has a site license. They've paid enough already.
    If you've read this far, thank you. I look forward to replies, or at least understanding. And if anyone has ideas, I'd appreciate it very much (yes, I have tried taking the page numbers off and using Adobe's page number feature, but that would not allow Roman numerals. Only Arabic.).

    Greetings NoNameGiven,
    If I understand the problem correctly (I’m not sure I do) you would prefer ‘iii’ to be read as “eye eye eye” rather than “three”? The alt text property is the only way that I know of to make this happen. Hope this helps.

    Hello Vivek,
    Thanks for the announcement.
    It is nice to know that anyone that now purchases the
    Technical Communication Suite 1.3 as an upgrade will get Adobe
    Acrobat 9 Pro Extended for the same price I paid in October 2007
    for the Tech Comm Suite with Adobe Acrobat 8. Had I only waited
    until this month to purchase the Technical Communication Suite I
    too would have the latest version of Adobe Acrobat but alas, I will
    have to spend an additional $300US to upgrade to TCS 1.3. Which
    means I will have paid 30% more for the TCS than anyone purchasing
    it now.
    Sometimes it just does not pay to be an early adopter of a
    product and have to go through the pain of wondering why RoboHelp 7
    was so slow (among other bugs)...but I digress.
    I understand you likely have nothing to do with the pricing,
    but I felt I had to say something.

  • Technical note:  Troubleshooting DRG-11207 errors / INSO filters.

    All,
    The following is Metalink's Note 210319.1about troubleshooting DRG-11207 errors.
    If the content is of no help, I suggest contacting Oracle support.
    -Omar
    Subject: Troubleshooting DRG-11207 errors
    INTRODUCTION
    =============
    Most of the errors encountered during creation of Oracle Text indexes are likely
    to be caused when dealing with formatted documents. These errors are logged in the
    view CTX_USER_INDEX_ERRORS and can be queried from the schema where the create index
    statement was executed, or table CTX_INDEX_ERRORS queried from the CTXSYS user.
    One of the errors commonly reported in these views is the DRG-11207 error.
    Unfortunately, this error is often not useful in diagnosing indexing issues.
    The INSO_FILTER issues are difficult to diagnose because Oracle uses a third-party
    application for filtering. As a result, it is often difficult to identify the real
    source of the problem.
    This document will troubleshoot the INSO_FILTER errors associated with
    the
    DRG-11207 "exited with status X"
    message. In regards to the INSO_FILTER, the error code implies that it is unable to
    index a formatted document. It is important to mention that these errors can be operating
    system specific and therefore this note is intended to provide some hints as a starting
    point for analysis. Its possible that other cases may be reported and if this is the
    case be sure to log the error with Oracle Support. Examples of the most common document
    types are provided in this article (Adobe PDF, Micrsoft Word and Microsoft Excel).
    For Oracle 10i, meaningful error messages have been added for drg-11207.
    This has been documented in [BUG:2473885]
    COMMON ERRORS
    ==============
    DRG-11207: user filter command exited with status 1
    Status 1 means "Could not filter the document". It is a generic error and indicates that
    INSO_FILTER failed on a given document. This can happen due to many documented reasons: an
    invalid environmental setting; document is corrupted, encrypted, password protected;
    document version not supported(incompatibility) or due to a bug in INSO_FILTER.
    DRG-11207: user filter command exited with status 2
    Status 2 means "The INSO_FILTER has timed-out". The default value of the timeout value
    for the INSO_FILTER is 120 (seconds). The default value for the timeout_type is
    heuristic, which implies that if the timeout value is reached and the INSO_FILTER
    has not started to write output, the indexing operation terminates for the document
    row and Oracle moves to the next document row to be indexed. Beginning in 9.2.0.1
    it is possible to change the timeout_type variable to fixed, which allows a
    user to terminate filtering processing after the TIMEOUT seconds regardless of
    whether filtering is progressing normally or hanging. The default timeout value
    is generally enough for filtering most of the documents. If the timeout value is
    not large enough then it may timeout even before filtering completes. PDF and
    Microsoft Excel files are usually more prone to this timeout as the INSO_FILTER
    generally takes more time to process these types of files. If this is the
    case then you can create a preference with a larger timeout value in versions
    8.1.7.1b and above. It should be noted, however, that the timeout attribute cannot be
    changed dynamically. In order for the new timeout value to take effect, it
    would be necessary to re-create the index with the new timeout attribute
    setting.
    For example, in 9.2.x to alter the timeout to 600 seconds(10 minutes) and use
    the fixed timeout_type:
    begin
    ctx_ddl.create_preference('my_inso', 'INSO_FILTER');
    ctx_ddl.set_attribute('my_inso', 'timeout', '600');
    ctx_ddl.set_attribute('my_inso', 'timeout_type', 'FIXED');
    end;
    Documented reasons for timing out are:
    1. the document is too large to be indexed in the alloted time set via TIMEOUT
    attribute.
    2. INSO_FILTER is hanging during the filtering.
    DRG-11207: user filter command exited with status 127
    Status 127 points to that likely an environmental issue with the shared library
    environmental variable.
    DRG-11207: user filter command exited with status 137
    Status 137 meand that the ctxhx executable was killed as the inso filter is not
    set-up properly. Confirm that the correct environmental variables are
    setup(LD_LIBRARY_PATH AND PATH) and the format of the document is
    supported by INSO_FILTER.
    ENVIRONMENTAL SETTINGS
    ======================
    Please note that any DRG-11207 error may be caused by the setting of the
    environmental variables. Be sure that the PATH and shared library path
    which is LD_LIBRARY_PATH (SHLIB_PATH for HP-UX and LIBPATH for AIX) are
    correct, since it is this setting which actually invokes the INSO_FILTER.
    Note : it is also possible to define the environment variable
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH in the listener.ora entry for extproc. This would be
    included in the ENVS section of the origin database LISTENER.ORA:
    ENVS = 'LD_LIBRARY_PATH=<full_pathname_of_oracle_home>/ctx/lib:$ORACLE_HOME/lib'
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH should include
    <full_pathname_of_oracle_home>/ctx/lib:<full_pathname_of_oracle_home>/lib
    For example:
    export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=<full_pathname_of_oracle_home>/ctx/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
    PATH should include
    <full_pathname_of_oracle_home>/ctx/bin:<full_pathname_of_oracle_home>/bin
    [NOTE:133691.1] and [NOTE:135333.1] provides possible steps to get around this error.
    SUPPORTED DOCUMENT ATTRIBUTE CHECKLIST
    ======================================
    1. Determine if the filtered document is supported
    A list of supported formats is provided in the InterMedia Text documentation
    pages. Please check whether the format falls in the list of supported formats.
    It is important to note that each Oracle version may support different
    versions of documents.
    For PDF Acrobat (full version), click on File->Document_Info->General and
    you should see the PDF version.
    For Microsoft Word and Excel, click on File->Save As and review the
    "Save as type" to determine the version.
    2. Determine if the document is corrupted
    To verify if a document is corrupted, open the document and view it line
    by line checking for corrupted output. Please note, just holding down the
    "Page Down" button to view all the pages, it's possible that potential
    corruption on a particular page will go unnoticed.
    3. Determine if the document is a secure or copy protected document
    Password protected documents and documents with password protected contents
    are not supported by the INSO_FILTER.
    For PDF Acrobat (full version), click under file->document_info->security.
    If the open password or security password is set to true then it's password
    protected.
    For Microsoft Word, click under Tools->Options->Save. If the
    "Password to open" or "Password to modify" appears as asterisks (*****),
    then the document is secured.
    For Microsoft Excel, click under File->Save As->Tools->General options.
    If the "Password to open" or "Password to modify" appears as
    asterisks (*****), then the document is secured.
    4. Determine if the document is a encrypted
    INSO_FILTER does not currently support encrypted documents.
    For PDF Acrobat (full version), click under file->document_info->security.
    If security method is none, the document is not encrypted. In other cases,
    it is encrypted.
    For Microsoft Word, it is not possible to encrypt this type of document
    directly.
    For Microsoft Excel, if the document is workbook protected then this
    implies that the document is encrypted. To determine this click under
    tools->protection and if the Unprotect Workbook or Unprotect
    Sheet is shown, this implies that the workbook/worksheet is encrypted.
    5. Determine if the document has custom embedded fonts
    Stellent filters will succeed on the majority of PDF documents containing
    custom fonts. Until now, there have only been a few documented cases of
    custom embedded fonts causing filtering problems with PDF documents. If
    there is a filtering problem with custom fonts, it will only result in
    garbage tokens being produced as a result of the custom font, whereas the
    remainder of the PDF document using the standard/built-in font will be
    filtered properly.
    To determine if custom embedded fonts are used for PDF Acrobat (full version),
    click under file->document_info->fonts and review the encoding type.
    The best way to identify whether a particular custom font will filter successfully
    is to highlight the character, copy and paste into Notepad. If the output
    contains garbage text then it is not likely to be filtered properly.
    For Microsoft Word and Excel, regardless of what font is being used, the
    INSO_FILTER should be able to extract the characters.

    Gary,
    This is two questions:
    1. The INSO filter on 8.1.7 when converting MS Word or WordPrefect Docs to HTML would give you <I> and <B> used in
    the word processor. The 9.2.0.1 version is not converting <I> or <B> in the HTML. Is there any documentation
    from the Company on using the ctxhx and template files? If <I> and <B> tags are missing in 9.2.0.1 then it is a bug in the INSO code.
    2. I have received an error in the CTX_USER_INDEX_ERRORS from one of the docs store in a BLOB here is the error.
    DRG-11207: user filter command exited with status 1.
    Is there a way to debug the ctxhx or INSO load libraries? I know what a 137 error is (NO LD_LIBRARY_PATH for ctx/lib)
    but what a 1. Where is the FL_CMD_EXIT_ERR info? Status 1 is a generic error and you can't debug it. Could you please post your email address? I would like to contact you for a test case.
    Thanks.

    The basic Troubleshoot step of a "soft reset"  is NOT described in the Lumia 625 User Guide & I'm pessimistic this arbitrary step will bear fruit. I have come to the conclusion that no matter what I do, this Lumia model using the MIcrosoft OS has a system flaw that is unable to read the file (a file that other devices & another OS can read) & I will not waste time with ad hoc actions such as resets as this is not a hobby for me.
    The pdf in question (88Mb, Lumia free space is >3Gb)  is a travel guide I'd like to use on my next trip & this Lumia 625 is proving not worthy of coming with me. I am disappointed at the lack of "Customer Support" shown by the Nokia Company & I hope this is relayed as some "friendly feedback". Thank you for your own assistance, though.
    I invite correction if this assessment is mistaken.

  • I need help getting assistance from Adobe Technical Support.  Ideas?

    I feel that I am getting the run around by Adobe technical support and wondered if anyone had any recommendations on how to handle this problem.
    Any recommendations or assistance would be greatly appreciated.  This is very important to me.  In previous upgrades this has been fixed with the update, but Adobe has not added an update to RoboHelp 8.0 yet.  Does anyone know of an update in the works?
    I have repetedly contacted Adobe Technical support with a bug that I have found and also reported a bug on the website where you report bugs.
    http://www.Adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform&product=38
    I continually am told that it is worked on by the "highest level" but each time they try the bug out as if it is not being worked on.  Does anyone have a recommendation about how to get my bug worked on.  I have confirmed that it is in fact a bug and can be replicated on other computers.  Sometimes they say they will help and then put in a ticket that it is my turn to submit information.  Most of the time I just am told I will get a call and do not
    I have posted my problems on an earlier posts and have gotten some work around recommendations but they do not solve my problem.  This is a very used feature that does not work and it is a really cool feature in my online help system.

    LOL, your last reply? Or the last line of your reply? Which says: Please contact me via my site.

  • I am getting Error 1 and message to contact Adobe Technical Support

    When I try to open a shortcut image on desktop I get Message:  Uninstall and reinstall the product.  Contact Adobe Technical Support for help and mention "ERROR 1."
    I don't even know exactly which Adobe product I am to uninstall.
    Photoshop Elem 13 has been working perfectly until yesterday.
    Help.

    I have same issue with Photoshop Elements 12 and Premiere Elements 12 after Tech Shop cleaned my Desktop of some viruses.  I know they deleted file SAFERBROWSER, which is Adobe File name I noticed when I tried to re-install.  So, Tech Shop deleted this file which is why Photshop and Premiere ceased to run.  And re-installing did not correct problem.  I did uninstall and re-install (3) times with no luck.
    I will be watching Forum for any answers you get, 'cause mine are the same issues.

    Regards,
    Randi

  • Adobe RoboHelp 7 and the Adobe Technical Communication Suite have just been posted

    Hi, folks.
    The long-awaited Adobe RoboHelp 7 and the Adobe Technical
    Communications Suite have just been posted on the Adobe website.
    There are 30-day Trial versions that can be downloaded here:
    http://www.adobe.com/ap/products/robohelp/
    Follow the link that says "Download the trial". After you
    sign in, you can download either the RoboHelp 7 standalone release,
    or the Technical Communications Suite which contains these
    integrated products: RoboHelp 7, FrameMaker 8, Adobe Captivate 3
    and Acrobat 3D.
    If you or members of your team use both RoboHelp and
    FrameMaker, I'd strongly advise you take a look at Tech Comm Suite.
    It's more than simply a "bundle:" of products. There is real
    integration among the apps. Here are details:
    http://www.adobe.com/ap/products/technicalcommunicationsuite/
    For some screenshots and information, check out Peter
    Grainge's website
    http://www.grainge.org/pages/authoring/rh7/rh7.htm
    I will also be posting some Adobe Captivate movies of the new
    interface on my website in the next day or two.
    http://www.hypertexas.com
    You can also read more on the Adobe Tech Comm Blog
    http://blogs.adobe.com/techcomm/technical_communication/
    These are exciting times. Two releases in one year! I don't
    think there's any doubt about Adobe's committment to RoboHelp now
    Thanx,
    John

    The first thing I looked at was the upgrade price, which is I
    think is pretty reasonable. I may not have made it clear in my
    other post that I installed the RH7 trial with RH6 still installed.
    I'm pretty sure management will spring for an upgrade, and I don't
    intend to use RH6 simultaneously at that point--only while I'm
    doing the trial.
    The main thing I'm checking out is the double-byte character
    support. One complaint I have there is that in HTML view, Japanese
    characters are showing as squares. If I open the same topic file in
    Notepad, the Japanese characters show up there, so I know RH7 isn't
    really messing up the characters, it's just not displaying them in
    HTML view. This still makes it difficult to manipulate Japanese
    text in HTML view. Does anyone know if there is a way for these
    characters to display in HTML view properly? Should I start a
    different post? Thanks,
    Ben

  • "kern" table ignored? -- technical note "OpenType tables used by Windows"

    The technical note "OpenType tables used by Windows"<br />  http://partners.adobe.com/asn/developer/type/otfdk/<br />  techdocs/OT_tables_in_Win_ATM.html<br />says that the <kern> table (Kerning) is "Ignored". Is it true? Does the ATM<br />driver really ignore "flat" kerning?<br /><br />Also, are there any significant updates for Windows 2000 and XP? (I think<br />the ATM font driver built in Windows 2000 and XP is referred to as "5.0" --<br />true?)<br /><br />Adam

  • Enterprise deploy Adobe Technical Communication Suite 5

    Enterprise deploy Adobe Technical Communication Suite 5. AAMEE 3.1 doesnot recognize the package and creative cloud packager doesnot help either as the package created by ccp doesnot get installed

    Going to answer my own question.  Its long, and im not sorry as it took me over an hour to work it out and test!
    So my scenario is I am creating a disk image to deploy to my end users (over 50), I have a Volume Licence key, however installing Technical Communications Suite 5 will not install until I have logged into my adobe account which will cache my details in the image and we dont want that.
    So... I have found a link to silently installing Technical Communications Suite 3 (close enough? - Yes!).
    There are several things to do which with a little more work can be deployed with GPO etc...
    Copy the media to somewhere, we will assume c:\TCS5
    I have the following folders and files in this folder -
    *deploy
    *packages
    *payloads
    *resources
    *Set-up.exe
    Copy the correct language file .xml from "deploy" for me this is "Install_en_US.xml" and drop it in "c:\TCS5" for no real reason other than it makes it easier for me.
    Edit this file (i used notepad++) to only include the products you want to install. i.e. Acrobat only from the TCS suite.
    <!-- TechCommSuite 5 -->
    <Payload adobeCode="{5EEBC969-9161-4053-B4E0-200000000000}">
    <Action>install</Action>
    </Payload>
    <!-- Acrobat Professional -->
    <Payload adobeCode="{23D3F585-AE29-4670-8E3E-640000000000}">
    <Action>install</Action>
    </Payload>
    Create a file named "application.xml.override" in c:\TCS5 which should include the following information, you will need to enter two values yourself:
    PRODUCT SERIAL NUMBER WITHOUT DASHES - This is fairly obvious and is your TCS5 product code
    PAYLOAD CODE - To get this code open the setup.xml file on the media c:\TCS5\payloads\setup.xml, copy the product code between <mediaSignature> and </mediaSignature>  Example: <Configuration><Payload adobeCode="{DE60F0DE-469A-42DC-A678-978313210057}">.
    The rest is pretty obvious:
    Registration - Do you want end users to register?
    Updates - Do you want the product to self update?
    EULA - Not interested as I have already read it
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <Configuration>
        <Payload adobeCode="{PAYLOAD CODE}">
            <Data key="Serial" protected="0">PRODUCT SERIAL NUMBER WITHOUT DASHES</Data>
            <Data key="Registration">Suppress</Data>
            <Data key="Updates">Suppress</Data>
            <Data key="EULADelay">-1</Data>
        </Payload>
    </Configuration>
    Save this file.
    Now you have you install language file, your override file and you set-up.exe file in c:\TCS5.  Lets install...  Now the guide wont tell you all the paths need to be absolute, not from where you are running the command from.
    c:\TCS5\Set-up.exe --mode=silent --deploymentFile=c:\TCS5\Install_en_US.xml --action=install  --c:\TCS5\overrideFile=application.xml.override
    Tada!  It should install. (the default action is install so you can omit --action=install this was also spelt wrong in the snippets I found so go careful)
    If you get issues the install logging is pretty good, they can be found here : “\Program Files(x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Installers\”  (also could be Program Files without the (x86) on your system.
    If you get error 16, your file names or paths are probably wrong, error code 19? close any conflicting apps the log file will tell you whats causing the holdup.
    You can uninstall with the same procedure just swap out the language install xml file to the uninstall xml file.
    So there it is, if you have a better way or AAMEE 3.2 is released, drop me a PM so at least I can then slipstream the updates in...  Thats the next job...
