Random 100% CPU kernel when running java
Hi!
This happens sporadically but far too often to ignore. When running java (1.7.0_10, x64, standard kernel) I notice full utilization of all cores; and it's kernel time.
The machine quickly freezes so it's kind of hard to investigate...

Server 2012 R2 100% cpu usage when using search
Hi all!
We are experiencing issues with the built in search in WS 2012R2 (Win+Q). Upon starting to type, the explorer.exe process peaks and stays at 100% until typing is done and the search is complete. It also can't keep up with typing and hangs after
a few keystrokes. We have done tests on 2012 R2, 2012 and 2008 R2 running as VMs with 1 cpu. The tests performed have been run on a host running only the test VM with underlying 2x8 core cpus, SSD, SAN storage and 256GB RAM. Also, we have tested
both Hyper-V and VMware ESXi 5.0. We see that if we add another CPU to the guest it alleviates the keystroke lagging, but the explorer.exe still consumes 100% cpu.
When the same tests are run on a physical machine (approx. same specs as the virtualization hosts) the cpu usage reaches 15-20% on one of the physical sockets (numa node). Totally negligible, but still a high number.
We are afraid of service impact and are keen to know if anyone else is experiencing the same? Maybe someone has a fix?Hi TrondWH,
Thanks for contacting Microsoft.
Currently, would you please try cleaning boot the server and test how the issue goes. Cleaning boot can exclude some third-party application affect. Following are the detailed steps about clean boot:
Log on to the computer by using an account that has administrator rights.
Click Start, type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER to start the
System Configuration Utility.
On the General tab, click Selective Startup, and then click to clear the Load startup items check box. (The Use Original Boot.ini check box is unavailable.)
On the Services tab, click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then click Disable all.
Click OK, Choose Don’t show this message again and then click Restart.
Please check if the issue is still the same.
Please let me know the result.
Best regards,
Sophia Sun

Error when running java control panel
Hi all,
I'm having trouble when running java control panel in my laptop. When I double click the java icon, a pop up message appeared saying
Could not find com.sun.deploy.panel.ControlPanel. Program will now exit.
How do I fix this?
Thx a bunchMake sure the Java folder in program files is deleted after a uninstall.
Make sure C:\windows\system32\deployjava1.dll is deleted,
Make sure C:\Users\userid\appdata\locallow\sun
Also how are you uninstalling java, using the programs and features?
If you have applied and transitions to the .msi use msiexec !TA {productcode}
Hope this can help -
I have very high 100% CPU usage when I run itunes.
Normally I don't have any problems, but now when I start iTunes it eats up my CPUs. Any thoughts?
I am having this same problem. When running iTunes on my macbook pro, i notice my CPU usage is hovering around 94-97% constantly. Has anyone found out why?

100% CPU Usage Overhead running EM DBConsole 11g on OEL-5.2
After upgrading to OEL-5.2 and relinking all Oracle binaries, my old Oracle 11g installation, installed several months before on OEL-5.1, has been working well, including Enterprise Manager Database Console working nicely as always with respectful performance. Unfortunatelly, it lasted just several days.
Yesterday I decided to uninstall the 11g completely and perform new clean installation (software and database) with the same configuration options and settings as before, including EM dbconsole, all configured using dbca. After completing the installation (EM was started automatically by dbca), oracle continued to suck 80-85% CPU time. In further few minutes CPU utilization raised up to 99% due to only one (always the same PID) client process - "oracleorcl (LOCAL=NO)". For first ten minutes I didn't care too much since I always enable Automatic Management in dbca. But after two hours, I started to worry. The process was still running, consuming sustained 99% of CPU power. No other system activity, no database activity, no disks activity at all!
I was really puzzled since I installed and reinstalled the 11g at least 20 times on OEL-5.0 and 5.1, experimenting with ASM, raw devices, loopback devices and various combinations of installation options, but never experienced such a behaviour. It took me 3 minutes to log in to EM dbconsole as it was almost unusable performing too slow. After three hours CPU temperature was nearly 60 degrees celsius. I decided to shutdown EM and after that everything became quiet. Oracle was running normally. Started EM again, the problem was back again. Tracing enabled, it filled a 350 MB trace file in just 20 minutes. Reinstalling the software and database once again didn't help. Whenever EM is up, the CPU usage overhead of 99% persists.
Here is a cca 23 minutes session summary report taken from EM dbconsole's Performance page. The trace file is too big to list it here, but it shows the same.

----------------------------------------Wow!!! Note: no disk, no database activity !
Has anyone experienced this or similar behaviour after clean 11g installation on OEL-5.2? If not, anyone has a clue what the hell is going on?
Thanks in advance.Hi Tommy,
I didn't want to experiment further with already working OEL-5.2, oracle and dbconsole on this machine, specially not after googling the problem and finding out that I am not alone in this world. There are another two threads on OTN forums (Database General) showing the same problem even on 2GB machines:
DBConsole easting a CPU
11g stuck. 50-100% CPU after fresh install
So, I took another, a smaller free machine I've got at home (1GB RAM, 2.2MHz Pentium4, three 80GB disks), on which I used to experiment with new releases of software (this is the machine on which I installed 11g for the first time when it was released on OEL-5.0, and I can recall that everything was OK with EM). This is what I did:
1. I installed OEL-5.0 on the machine, adjusted linux and kernel parameters, and performed full 11g installation. Database and EM dbconsole worked nice with acceptable performance. Without activity in the database, %CPU = zero !!! The whole system was perfectly quiet.
2. Since everything was OK, I shutdown EM and oracle, and performed the full upgrade to OEL-5.2. When the upgrade finished, restarted the system, relinked all oracle binaries, and started oracle and EM dbconsole. Both worked perfectly again, just as before the upgrade. I repeated restarting the database and dbconsole several times, always with the same result - it really rocks. Without database activity, %CPU = zero%.
3. Using dbca, I dropped the database and created the new one with the same configuration options. Wow! I'm again in trouble. A half an hour after the creation of the database, %CPU raised up to 99%. That's it.
The crucial question here is: what is that in OEL-5.2, not existing in the 5.0, that causes dbca/em scripts to be embarrassed at the time of EM agent configuration?
Here are the outputs you required picked 30 minutes after starting the database and EM dbconsole (sustained 99% CPU utilization). Note that this is just a 1GB machine.

Error when running java application on HP-UX
I am experiencing some problems when running my applications on HP-UX. I have downkloaded and instaled the SDK version . I can compile normally my programs, but when running I have the following error:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError
I am not so novice in Java, and I know the Java 2 plataform pretty well> I have already checked the CLASS_PATH environment variable and it's not set.
The only different thing I notice it's a strange message: " Warning: Missing charsets in String to FontSet conversion"
Below its the PrintStackTrace and the Java -version output
Java -version:
java version "1.4.2.03"

I really apreciate some help !It seems that the Java Environment can't connect to the Display (perhaps no XServer is running or the display variable is not set correctly)
This seems to be the case when the call
java.awt.GraphicsEnvironment.getLocalGraphicsEnvironment(GraphicsEnvironment.java:62)
fails. -
I upgrade to iTunes 10.4.0.80. Since then iTunes uses 50% of the CPU and Mobile uses 50% CPU. I let it run for hours and the CPU usage stayed at 100%. The phone will partially sync but takes a very long time. This was not a problem before the iTunes upgrade. I am running iTunes on Windows XP professional SP3. It does not matter if the phone is connected to the USB port of the PC. When iTunes starts it runs the CPU at 100%.
Yes! I am not the only one with this problem. Ever since the latest iTunes update, the CPU runs up to 100% using both the mobiledevice and itunes itself. The store won't work either! I'm also on Windows XP. I too have tried everything I can think of but nothing has helped. I really hope they get an update out with fixes soon. This is really annoying!!

100% CPU usage when writing to disk
Hi.
I have an Athlon XP 2000+ with 768 MB RAM, a SATA disk, formated to ntfs (running XP) and a IDE disk running Arch (ext3, KDE).
When I copy a big file, the CPU usage stucks to 100% . Doesn't matter the disk I write to or from. The CPU usage is always 100%.
My maximum writing speeds are:
ntfs-3g-->ext3 max ~30 MB/sec
ext3-->ext3 max ~28 MB/sec
ext3-->ntfs-3g max ~15MB/sec
ntfs-3g-->ntfs-3g max ~15 MB/sec
I understand that writing to ext3 is much faster because it is a native linux fs, but I cant understand why the high CPU usage.
While coping, ksysguard shows that the progress with the higher system% is kio_file when coping ext3-->ext3, or kio_file and ntfs-3g, when coping from or to a ntfs disk.
The problem is not with the CPU, in windows the writing speed is higher and the CPU usage is much lower. So I thing this is an Arch configuration problem but don't know where exactly to look. Searched the forum but didnt find any solution.
Any ideas? Anyone with similar problems?

It says ATA device, with non-removable media but this is a SATA disk!
Also,
# hdparm -t /dev/sda
/dev/sda:
Timing buffered disk reads: 166 MB in 3.01 seconds = 55.23 MB/sec (SATA Disk)
and
# hdparm -t /dev/hdb
/dev/hdb:
Timing buffered disk reads: 176 MB in 3.02 seconds = 58.26 MB/sec (IDE Disk)
hdprm says dma is on for the ide disk, but says nothing about dma for the SATA.
I think the problem is because the kernel recognize the SATA disk as IDE.

Different thread/memory limits when running Java via Windows Service?
My company is developing a Java application that employs a "black-box" interface, which generates several memory-intensive threads. When we run the application via a batch file, the threads seem to run in parallel on a quad-core server. However, when we install the application as a Windows Service on the same server, it appears that we hit a hard limit of 35 threads, and the process pegs out one of the server's CPU's at 100%. Does anyone know why we don't see the parallelism when we run it as a Windows Service? Does anyone know if Windows imposes different memory or thread restrictions on services, as opposed to normal desktop applications?

I am using fire fox 5.0 (after using 3.6 for what seems like forever) and the plugin-container.exe has been sucking up my CPU power like a vampire. It had been doing that in 3.6 but not as much. I figured if I upgraded the problem would go away, but no, it has not. After reading some other similar posts, I ran Firefox in safe mode with no plugins running and sure enough after browsing for a bit it started running slower and used 90-100% of my CPU. Is there any way to fix this issue? Or am I doomed? Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide.
That's supposed to show you the problem isn't Firefox, don't know how successful that actually is. You can delete it so that it starts up again. Susggest restarting Firefox when you see it has used about an hour of CPU time as the next hour of CPU time will take shorter to get there and you will be locked out.
Also see this -- the solution on all the items seem to fix a lot of problems with the places.sqlite database.

30EA1: 100% CPU until out of Java Heap space
Hi,
Just my initial 20 minute eval of the new 3.0, and already had 2 lockups on my XP and 10g DB; 1 on opening the Tasks view (just keeps looking for application tasks, with progress bar), the other on opening the Query Builder tab (keeps Loading available objects and relationships, with hourglass). No exceptions in the debug console until running out of heap space.
Hope these get reviewed and debugged before production,
K.After about 10 minutes, it stopped, so I switched from from Current Project to Current Application and back again to get going again.
Now memory use just continued growing, until after about 10 minutes, my main sqldev window just disappeared. I was just in time to capture a dump before the console also disappeared on its own:

I haven't reproduced the query builder situation (yet), but as it's internal query is almost as long as this one, it might very well be the same or a related issue.
Hope that helps,

Java.lang.OutOfMemoryError when running java concurrent program
Hi,
i had written a java concurrent program to create the content items into Oracle Content Manager (OCM). Process the records from interface table and create the content items into OCM by calling the API IBC_CITEM_ADMIN_GRP.upsert_item().
I run the concurrent program with 2000 records in interface table, it's an one to one process, 563 records are processed and 563 content items are created successfully in OCM. After 563 records continuously throws the Exception
EXCEPTION
WHEN OTHERS THEN
DBMS_OUTPUT.put_line('EX - bundle validation others--');
x_return_status := FND_API.G_RET_STS_ERROR;
FND_MESSAGE.Set_Name('IBC', 'A_BUNDLE_ERROR');
FND_MESSAGE.set_token('SITUATION', 'VALIDATION');
FND_MSG_PUB.ADD;
IF IBC_DEBUG_PVT.debug_enabled THEN
IBC_DEBUG_PVT.end_process(
IBC_DEBUG_PVT.make_parameter_list(
p_tag => 'OUTPUT',
p_parms => JTF_VARCHAR2_TABLE_4000(
'x_return_status', '*** EXCEPTION *** [' || SQLERRM || ']'
END IF;
in IBC_CITEM_ADMIN_GRP.validate_attribute_bundle() API.
Again running the concurrent program it process another 563 records. Can any one help me to fix this issue?
i figured out the exception. When debug the error, i got the actual error message like this
ORA-29532: Java call terminated by uncaught Java exception: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError
ORA-29532: Java call terminated by uncaught Java exception: java.lang.NullPointerException
ORA-29532: Java call terminated by uncaught Java exception: java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: -2048 < 0
for this issue i increased the heap memory size up to 1024MB. Still i have the same issue. Can any one help to fix the issue?ORA-29532: Java call terminated by uncaught Java
exception: java.lang.NullPointerException
ORA-29532: Java call terminated by uncaught Java
exception: java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException:
-2048 < 0Aren't the null pointer and arrayindexoutofbounds, the ones which you get when you are trying to read beyond your array? (example: when your loop tries to access the 563rd element in your array, since your array index starts from 0)?
May be if you can try to write out your elements in the array, you might see what it is croaking about.
Thanks,
Chiru
