Ranking search function based on column content

We need to search on many docs saved in database. These LOBs has one column KEYWORD VARCHAR2 (64), in which we should put some words that help user who want to search on these values.
Is there any explanation (code) how to rank found docs by this KEYWORD field. Something like google but much poorer and based only on one column search.
THX!
P.S:
My config is Oracle XE

You can use the score function.

  • Search function for external html content

    Hi all,
i have got a Flash Projector which is to be deployed on
DC/DVD rom. I am using an XML menu to load various chapters and
sections of html content, images etc. The client is now asking for
the capability to search within the "books" content.
Is there any way of doing this? I have found an Extension
that allows me to search within a text field, but what about
    external content files?
Please help. I've had a quick look at Director, but I can't
see any guarantee that that product will give me an easier
solution, not to mention the weeks or relearning and
    redeveloping...

You probably need to read all the data into Flash and do the
    searching in Actionscript.
Director as I recall has better access to the OS so it could
potentially read a local database. However you should continue to
consider how to accomplish in Flash.
If you want to explore accomplishing the same with Flash then
look at third party products such as Zinc that will allow you to
    get to the OS.

  • Searching based on the content of an uploaded document

    Hi,
Is it possible to search based on the content of the document I have uploaded. The system used is ECC 5.0.
Eg : I have uploaded resumes of employees and I have search based on their skills. Is it possible to search based on the skill which is mentioned in the resumes and provide the output.
    Thanks,
    Sarath.C

I can't do that without knowing the structure of your document, it all depends on wether the data you need is in a fixed position in a fixed line or it's in a variable position and the correct line or position needs to be found before using it.

  • Function Based Index on Date Column

    Hi All,
I need to execute a query like this :
SELECT * FROM ORDERS WHERE APPROVE_DATE IS NULL
I read anywhere that this will cause unnecessary FTS so that I should create function based index.
I have tried one below , but not sure that this is correct approach :
    CREATE INDEX idx_1
    ON ORDERS (NVL(APPROVE_DATE, '01-JAN-1900'));
    SELECT * FROM ORDERS WHERE NVL(APPROVE_DATE, '01-JAN-1900') = '01-JAN-1900'
Is this a correct approach ?
    Thank you,

SQL> select count(1) from t where created is null
      2  /
      COUNT(1)
2376The number of null values in CREATED column is proportionately very small.
Now i execute the query without function based index.
    select *
      from t
    where created is null
call     count       cpu    elapsed       disk      query    current        rows
    Parse        1      0.00       0.09          0          0          0           0

    select *

2376    INDEX   GOAL: ANALYZED (RANGE SCAN) OF 'T_FN_IDX' (INDEX)Its very obvious from the above output that the Function Based Index as increased the performance.

Now lets see without using the function based index
    select *

          0  SELECT STATEMENT   GOAL: ALL_ROWS

    select *
      from t
    where nvl(created,to_date('01-01-1900','DD-MM-YYYY')) = to_date('01-01-1900','DD-MM-YYYY')
call     count       cpu    elapsed       disk      query    current        rows

    Fetch    13479      0.54       0.84          0      33826          0      202168
    total    13481      0.54       0.84          0      33826          0      202168
    Rows     Execution Plan
          0  SELECT STATEMENT   GOAL: ALL_ROWS
202168   TABLE ACCESS   GOAL: ANALYZED (FULL) OF 'T' (TABLE)Its obvious from the result that oracle has decided to go for a FULL TABLE SCAN even when an index was available.
So just having a function based index is not going to increase the query performance. There are lot of other factors to be considered as stated above.
    Thanks,
    Karthick.

  • OWC PS5 - Content Presenter - Search functionality in custom list template

We have created a custom list template for displaying the contents and use this custom list template in the content presenter task flow.
We would need to implement Search functionality in the custom template.
Any pointers on how to achieve this?
    Thanks,
    Navaneeth

Sorry to see that this post hasn't had a response from the search team for so long.
1 Search will not find content in portlets (for instance page portlets).
That is correct. The content of portlets may be different for each user so indexing this content can provide misleading results. However, if you only need to index public content, Oracle Ultrasearch can be used to index all portal content, including that displayed through portlets.
2 If Search Results Type in a custom search portlet is set to Pages, the search will be made in page display name, page keywords and page description. It will not search for item content.
Searching for pages checks the following pieces of metadata:
    page name & display name
    keywords
    description
all custom text attributes associated with the page type
all custom url attributes associated with the page type
all custom file attributes associated with the page type
Items will not be searched but again, its possible to index the entire page using Ultrasearch.
3 It is not possible to search for items but get found item's page links as results.
This is incorrect. The custom search portlet allows the administrator to select the attributes that should be displayed from the search portlet's "edit-defaults" screens. From here, its possible to select the "page" attribute to be displayed with the search results. This means that you can search for items and then click on a link to go to the page on which the item resides.
Various improvements have been made for 9.0.4, including better control over the display of page results.

  • Oracle 11g function based columns - deterministic function or not?

Hi all, here is my situation:
I added function based column in my table and created index on this column.
I need this since in my ADF application, I need to be able to sort by this column.
The function (that this column is based on) I had to make it DETERMINISTIC (otherwise it can not be done).
    So far so good.
My function is accepting 3 parameters (all NUMBERs) which are practically 3 primary keys from 3 different tables. Based on which key is present, my function is returning "Code" - column (VARCHAR2) from any of those 3 tables. And for sure "Code" can change in any of those table.
So my function is not really a DETERMINISTIC function.
-Should I update the function and make it nondeterministic? Will it still work? Will the index be valid if the function is nondeterministic?
-What is the consequence if it is not deterministic?
-If I leave i as deterministic - somehow the result is cached. Will my function always going to be re-executed for each row (having on mind it is not really deterministic)?
-Is there better solution than (function based column and index on it) in my case?

    Hi
I want to enable search functionality such as google in one of sharepoint list, such that in Allitmes.aspx of sharepoint list, put the textbox and when user want to search for example “sharepoint”, give him/her
suggestions that contain part or whole "sharepoint"word (such as “like” operaion in sql). These suggestions should be based on one of sharepoint list column,
    user fill this column beforehand.
    How can do this?!

  • Function based indexes on CLOB storage

On a 10gR2 database, with schema-less CLOB storage for an XMLType column:
    (1) Can a function based index include a wildcard in the namespace ? Or do I need a new function based index for each specific namespace ?
    (2) I must create a new function based index for each different element that I want an indexed search on ?
    (3) What limit is there on the number of function based indexes per table ?
    (4) I believe XQuery can include a wildcard for namespaces, but XPath 1.x can't. Can I create a function based index using XQuery, rather than XPath ?
Documents conforming to different versions of an XML schema will be present (schema versioning), but I want to search across all documents irrespective of a specific namespace - e.g. "Find any document with reference = 'some Value' , and amount = 1000".
CLOB storage is proposed, due to the need to handle documents from multiple versions of an XML schema. The knowledge of the XSD is not known at development time, but is user definable, and it must be possible to change the structure without system down time. Structured storage is not suitable, due to Oracle's requirement for downtime if the schema changes (CopyEvolve drops/recreates tables), and Oracle doesn't support schema collections, so you can't bind an XML column to multiple schemas.
Here is some sample code of what I'm trying to do:
    create table BulkTest
ID NUMBER(10) not null primary key,
    USERFIELDS XMLTYPE
    create sequence S_BulkTest;

    Andy
#1. You do not have scehma versioning here. Your model is totally incorrect. You shoud not change the namespace when versioning the XML Schema. You have 2 different and totally disjoint XML Schemas. The correct was to version, as distinct from evolve an XML Schema is to change the Schema Location Hint associated with your XML...
    Eg
    INSERT INTO BulkTest(id, Userfields) VALUES
    (S_BulkTest.Nextval,
    '<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
    <mt395 xmlns="urn:incident:mt395" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="urn:incident:mt395 mt395-1.xsd">

This is the correct way of versioning an XML Schema. THe namespace stays the same, the SchemaLocationHint in the SchemaLocation tag changes.
Bear in mind that if you use the technique you are currently using you will make any path expressions you need to write absolutely unmaintaining and the processing of them very inefficient.
    Some questions to consider
Node 'X' in namespace 'X' is never the same as Node 'X' in namespace 'Y'.
How would you write an Xpath or XQuery that targetted multiple versions, but not all versions ?
What happens if you have other documents that are really in a different namespace ? Using wildcards can you differentiate them..
From the problem you are describing and the terminolgy you are using it looks like you've been an early customer of Yukon. MSFT clearly didn't understand schema versioning in the early beta releases and used the 'change the namespace' schema for modelling schema versioning.
We do have some technology coming down the pipe which can address the issue, regardless of whether or not it is too late for you to correct the versioning scheme you have selected. However I cannot discuss that in a public forum. If you want to learn about these features and are prepared to enter an NDA with Oracle in order to do so please contact me directly. • Screen dims in itunes based on video content

When watching a video in iTunes my screen dims based on the content of the video to such a level that it's very hard to see anything. This only happens when the content of the video is actually dark at the moment (eg shadows, at night). When the content of the video switches back to something brighter (eg daylight) the brightness is going up again and everything is fine.
When the screen goes dark and I move the mouse (to bring up the player controls), the screen switches back to bright right away. Until the controls go away, then the screen goes back to dark. I've also tried to play the video in other player and the same problem doesn't appear. Interesting to note is also that this only happens when playing videos in itunes in full screen, when the player isn't in full screen the screen doesn't dim.
I've checked the energy saver and accessibility settings and nothing is set to dim the display. I've also turned off any energy saving settings on my tv. However, as this only happens in itunes and not with VLC I don't think this would be causing the problem anyway.
I'm using OS X Mavericks on a Mac Mini connected to a Samsung tv via HDMI.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

I just upgraded my tv from 55" led samsung tv 1080p 120hz, to a newer model samsung with the same specs but with smart capabilities. I've noticed that since the swapping of TVs, the dimming isn't nearly as prominent. While the dimming still happens, tweaking the settings of the tv may help out a bit. I know that on some of the movies/tv shows I've watched with the old settings, in especially dark scenes (horror and thrillers mostly) much of the experience was lost due to the inability to make out images on the screen because of the darkness. I'm still searching for solutions, and trying different things. It may help if we all post a list of what we are using, and any other info that might prove useful. Maybe we all having a setting turned in that is causing this.
    TV= 55" Samsung 1080p 120Hz
Connection to TV = Rocketfish brand HDMI to Mini
    - iTunes library is stored on a 4Tb hard drive to play content through computer. I pull content from the hard drive, I don't stream wirelessly.
    - in iTunes I have the playback video set to always be on top of other windows, as well as in a separate window unless the window is full screened.
    - my computer sleeps after 15 minutes. I can't remember if I have tried turning off the sleep function; however, I don't think this is what is effecting the playback because the dimming takes place in just a few seconds, rather than several minutes.
I have worked with Apple Support and tried several solutions suggested. I attempted to create a second user to confirm that it wasn't a setting I had changed for my personal login that was causing the dimming. I have re-installed iTunes and restored to default settings. I was told that maybe apps I had running in the background such as WJoY or Caffeine could possibly be causing interference, turning these background apps off didn't change anything.
Like I said, changing some of the settings on my TV helped. The only other work around that I might suggest until we find a solution, is moving the playback bar with the volume and ff/rw and play buttons to the corners utensil you can only see a small sliver, then leaving the cursor on top of the playback bar. This causes the bar to stay visible and not hide, whilst keeping mostly everything out of site. You'll still have the close screen (X) in the top left of the screen, and also be able to see the playback bar just a little bit, but it is better than nothing.

You don't, that's a legacy requirement from the early days of function based indexes in Oracle 8i. Here's a quick example running under 9.2.0.6
    drop table t1;
    create table t1 as
    select
    from
         all_objects
    where
         rownum <= 30000
create or replace function pl_func(i_vc     varchar2)
    return varchar2
    deterministic
    as
    begin
         return soundex(i_vc);
    end;
-- set the worst case scenario
    alter session set query_rewrite_enabled = false;
    alter session set query_rewrite_integrity = enforced;
    create index t1_i1 on t1(pl_func(object_name));
    execute dbms_stats.gather_table_stats(user, 't1')
    set autotrace traceonly explain
    select
         object_name
    from t1
    where pl_func(object_name) = 'T513'
set autotrace offResults (after set feedback off)

  • Search Function on web page

My company has a website in which we have our product catalog in pdf form, which has approximately 1000 pages.
I created the site using GOLIVE CS2.
Our vendors want to be able to search that pdf for their specific products only. So that if they type in lets say a number that is assigned to them as a prefix to their product number, then a list of some kind would be generated and clicking on the list would then take them to that page in the catalog.
What is the quickest and easiest way to do this?

PDF is a clumsy way to publish searchable content online. Ideally, you'd have your catalog products in a database.
A site visitor could still use the search function of the Adobe Reader plugin to find content in the PDF file.
You could also generate a database table where you index the content of each page in one column, and note the page number in another. Then offer a search script on your site that searches the first column and returns the page number value of the second column. You can access pages in a PDF file directly...

  • RH9 Webhelp Search function is not working properly

    Hi,
My organization is using RH9 for a Webhelp project.  My company and our client are restricted to using IE9 for the online help I have created for this project, and our OS environment is Windows 7.  When I generate using the Webhelp layout, with the TOC, Index and Search options chosen, my resulting browser window shows two frames.  Left for the Contents/Index/Search and right for the content.  In the left panel, there are three links at the top for Contents, Index and Search.  When I click on the Search link, the only thing I see is the alphabet A-Z (which are links to filter items beginning with these letters (much like the index link) and a list of what I would say is garbage.  For example, if I click on H, I see items like "half 1 2 3" or "held" or "honor # 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8", etc.  If I run my cursor down this list, I notice that maybe the word honor is a link.  If clicked it brings up one of my topic pages.  I can also click on the random numbers that appear, like clicking on 3 it brings up another topic page.  The search function does not allow me to type in a search criteria, since there is no search field as well.
Do you have any suggestions for this issue?  Is this a bug, or do I need to change settings somewhere within RH9?  The same thing is happening when using this help project that is running on our clients server.  Is there any suggestion you can give to try and make this work properly?

Rick,  Thanks for stepping in.    I assumed that was the reason why I was not receiving the search field, and that is fine for now.  We have discussed with our client the possibility of having two different help projects one for each, but that decision was kind of put on the back burner.
However, the other issue I am having is still there and I don't quite understand why.  Since I only have clickable A-Zs for the search, and it lists links much like the Index section, I'm still seeing lists of just numbers and characters (i.e., "# 1 2 3 4 5", or "%" or "& 1 2 3 4 5" sometimes all the way up to 18 or so).  And each of these characters or numbers are clickable links as well to either page that doesn't contain that number or to nothing.
Doing a bit more research, I have noticed that a lot of these links are being picked up by the PDF file we have as part of the project.  Our help project has a link to the documented version of the help in the form of a User Guide.pdf file.  So the search is listing items from that guide like the heading numbers 1.0, 1.0.1, etc.  Also each of these are clickable links that go nowhere.  But then there is still the numbers 1, 2, etc that go to pages that don't have this anywhere on the page.
Do you have any insight as to why these types of things are being listed under Search at all?  They make that selection look very messy and unorganized.  Not professional at all.  I have checked and tested the properties settings and can't seem to find what is causing this to happen.  Any idea would be most appreciated!!

  • Crash on search function for HTML Help file (.chm) when connected to a Visual C++ application

Crash on search function for HTML Help file (.chm) when
connected to a Visual C++ application
I use the RH_ShowHelp API command to connect a HTML Help file
(.chm file generated by RoboHelp Word X 5) to my Visual C++
application. My application is able to call up this HTML help file
in context-sensitive mode and everything is working great in the
Contents and Index panels EXCEPT when I click on List Topics (after
I enter a KEYWORD for search) in the Search panel.
I got an error that said “Unhandled exception in
    xxxx.exe.(HHCTRL.OCX):0xC00000FD: Stack overflow”
I am able to execute this .chm file by itself and the search
function works well in this case. I am using HHActiveX.dll that is
created on 2/23/04. Is this the correct version?? Any advice what
    to do here??

Hi agschin and welcome to the RH forums. The hhactivex.dll
file is not used by the search function so you can rule that our.
Have you tried recompiling and seeing if the problem still happens?
You can also start the Bug Hunter feature in RH - View > Output
View and then select the Bug Hunter button - and see if that throws
    up any clues.

  • RoboHelp 8 vs. 9 - Search Functionality Comparison and "All of the Words" vs. "Any of the Words"

    Greetings!
Our organization focuses a lot on the accuracy of our searches, which is a necessity when we have hundreds of very lengthy topics (no matter how well organized they are).
I finally completed a detailed comparison of the search functionality of 8 and 9 and came to the realization that 8 is a disaster, while with 9 things get better, but there's still TONS of room for improvement.  I have reported this to Adobe and so far there has been no official response. There are many blogs on here related to the search functionality, but I thought it may be a good idea to try to sum some of them up. I do hope that someone somewhere at Adobe runs into this and shares with all of us why Adobe's Search functionality is still in the 20th century!
I hope this helps everyone else who is curious to know about how the tool's search functions work and whether it's worth upgrading from 8 to 9 at this point. I have included some examples which are in a way internal to us, but they will give you a good idea of what to expect and I'm quite confident you'll be able to recreate them on your side in seconds.
I also wanted to ask a question or two, and if anyone can assist, that would be greatly appreciated:
Currently if we search for several words at once (not exact phrase), both 8 and 9 perform an "Any of the words" search which always returns too many results. Does anyone know a way to change the default to an "All of the words" search? For years I have not encountered a tool out there that doesn't have the option to modify this, alas with RoboHelp 8 and 9, we can't find a way to do it (with or without modifying the source code).
Out of curiosity, are there any other tools out there which offer Conditional Tag (or similar) functionality and which behave better than RoboHelp? (easier to maintain, less buggy, web interface, etc)?
RoboHelp 8 vs 9 - Search Functionality Comparison Table with some Examples:
    Search Example
    RoboHelp 8
    RoboHelp 9
    Expected Results
    (based on industry standards)
    1. Searching for Exact Phrase "Correspondent Banking"
Such a search returns topics which contain "Correspondent Banking" and "Correspondent Bank". The last one is included because "Bank" is the root of "Banking". The topics that contain the exact phrase appear at the bottom. When we click on any of them, we're not automatically taken to phrase so we have to scroll and look for it or use CTR+F.
Identical behavior except that when we click on the topics which contain the exact phrase, we're taken straight to it.
When we hear "exact" we expect "exact" and nothing else. Unfortunately, both versions keep searching for the roots of each word as well and incorrectly display those results at the top. Adobe has made it clear that this is a part of their functionality, BUT this is something we would not expect to see for exact phrase searches that are in quotes.
    2. A Non-Exact phrase search of "Geographical Limits of market area"
The tool automatically performs an "Any of the Words" search instead of an "All of the Words" search. This is also related to the question I asked above this table. As you can imagine, this is returning almost every topic and it becomes virtually impossible to find what we're looking for. It even returns topics which contain "of" and nothing else.
    Identical behavior
There to be an option which allows us to choose what the default search would be - "Any of the words" vs. "All of the Words"
    3. Exact Phrase search of "low-score" with a dash
None of the topics that were returned contain the phrase. As some of you know, RH8 has problems with special characters, including dashes.
RH9 returned only the topic that which contains the phrase and we were taken straight to it when we open it.
The expectation is to see exactly what RH9 currently offers. Unfortunately 8 has a big problem with these types of searches.
    4. Exact Phrase search of "2.4"
This is similar to the one above. Adobe doesn't like periods as well. It doesn't not find any of the topics which contain this phrase. In our case, this is a section number and sometimes people want a quick way to get to a specific section or sub-section.
We were hoping that this will be fixed with 9, just the way they fixed the dashes. Unfortunately, still ZERO results returned.
Expectation is for the topics which contain that exact phrase to be returned, no matter whether there's any special character inbetween.
    5. Exact Phrase search of "300,000" or $300,000"
The tool only returned several random topics which contain "000" as part of larger numbers. The topic that contains "300,000" was not on that list, even though it also contains "000".
    Identical behavior
Expectation is for topics that contain the exact amount to be returned, no matter if there is a coma or a dollar sign anywhere within the phrase.
    6. Exact Phrase Search of "525-B5". Goal was to have a special character, a letter and numbers.
    ZERO Results returned.
Only the docs that contain the phrase were returned and nothing else. It seems that this this was addressed in version 9 and now it behaves as expected.
Expectation is only for the docs that contain the exact phrase to be returned.
    7. Exact phase search of "log" in order to test the Substring Functionality
Here's an extract from Adobe's Support Site:
“Substring search (WebHelp/Pro, FlashHelp/Pro) - If you enable this feature, a search for "log" returns topics containing the words "catalog" and "logarithm." Substring search takes longer than whole-string search.”
So with that in mind, we decided to test if turning the substring searches on and off does exactly as advertised, unfortunately the answer was NO. We even used an example almost idnetical to what Adobe provided on their site.
With Substring Searches disabled, we searched for the word "log". Unfortunately it returned words like "logbook" and methodology". How is that possible?
    Identical behavior
Our expectation would be only for docs that contain"log" to be returned, no matter whether substring is enabled or disabled. In our case it was disabled.

    Hi there
Out of curiosity, why is it that you expect to hear from Adobe? I'm hoping it's not simply because you posted here. Certainly we have Adobe folks that visit here and we are thankful for that, but it isn't to be expected.
    Cheers... Rick
