RDC deployment

hi,
i hv CR XI Developer Edition,
i hv developed small program to open report and to modify in vb6 using embeddable crystal reports designer control. i am trying to deploy (using ms visual studio installer) on other machine... i get msg
"This system does not have a valid license, or the evaluation copy of the license has expired. please contact business objects to obtain a report design control license"
it works on my machine where CR XI Developer is installed.
pls help me out.
rgds,
ravi

Hello Ravi,
in order to distribute the embedded designer in the RDC (craxddrt) you need to have a special RC API licence. Please check with the licence manager if in your product keycode the RCAPI licence is enabled. If not you would need to purchase one.
If you would change to our NET SDK the equvalent tool is called inproc RAS SDK.
For this you would not need a special licence as it is royalty free.
Hope this helps

  • Crystal Report 11, List of Runtime DLLs, Runtime.hlp File

I am using Crystal Report 11 with my Delphi 7 application.
I need the list of runtime dlls which I will need to distribute with my application.
The Help file which comes with the Delphi 7 VCL Component (UCRPE32.hlp) says :
    QUOTE
    check RUNTIME.HLP in the Program Files\Seagate Software\Crystal Reports\Developer Files\Help folder
and make sure you have all the files.
    UNQUOTE
I could not find the RUNTIME.HLP file in any folder/subfolders on the machine  where Crystal Report 11 has been installed.
Can somebody tell me where I can find RUNTIME.HLP file or the list of runtime DLLs which is required to be distributed
along with my application(which is written in Delphi 7).
        Thanks in advance

    Hello Ramesh,
Business Objects does not support manual deployment of their runtime files.  This started with the release of CR XI (v11.0).  Please see [Business Objects Note 1218571|https://bcp.wdf.sap.corp/sap/sapnotes/display/0001218571] - How to distribute the Report Designer Component (RDC) in Crystal Reports XI for more information.
You may also want to review the RDC deployment article - [Creating an RDC Distribution Package|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/901c0761-cf1d-2b10-dea4-8e83937a9337] - that can be found on the SAP web site as well.
The RDC merge modules do not include the CRPE32.dll.  Since you're using the VCL you'll probably have to add that file manually to your deployment package.
The merge module links in these articles have probably changed.  Go to the [Business Objects Support Software Download|https://websmp230.sap-ag.de/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/bobj_download/main.htm] page to find the RDC merge modules.
Change the Selection Criteria to this:
    Software Product: Crystal Reports
Product Version: XI, XI Release 1, or XI Release 2 (depending on your version of Crystal Reports)
    Software Type: Utility
You should also be aware of the fact that the VCL is not being updated any longer.  I think the XI (v11.0) version is the last one that will be available.  Additionally, the Report Designer Component (RDC) has been retired with the release of CR 2008.  Going forward you'll have to migrate to .NET SDK or the Crystal Report Java SDK.
    I hope this helps,

  • Integration of CR2008 .RPT report files within Paradox 10

    Hello,
Our goal is to produce richer reports than those allowed by the ( 2002 ) Paradox report engine. We are evaluating CR2008 with the trial version plus other commercial report generator.
No problem with the conectivity to BDE 5.1 tables and the report building itself that is clear and straightforward. So we get the RPT files produced under CR2008 + Win XP
Question 1: how to embed the report handling to launch reports from withing Paradox code.
Former versions of CR had a Crystl32.ocx that seems not shipped in version CR2008.
Where can we get information to an ActiveX control to implement this interface or to know which is the mechanism used to integrate CR2008  within Paradox code. Any sample files ?
Question 2: we need to to make sure that the embedded product will run on Win 2000 Pro environment, because we need to maintain Win2k Pro as our minimum OS. It would be difficult for as to ask all our customers to switch to XP.
BTW, RPT files produced with CR2008 on XP run nice under the CR Viewer on Win2k, so we think that we will be able to continue using Win2k, but we need to make sure of this.
    Thanks a lot,
    Best regards,
    Horacio

    Hello Horacio,
I'm not familiar with Paradox, but it should be able to use the RDC in a similar fashion to it worked with the OCX (crystl32.ocx).
Since I'm not sure if you've worked with the RDC before I'll post some links that can be helpful.  If you have additional, specific questions please feel free to ask them by posting new questions.  Most of these documents were written for CR9. There's been little change to the RDC so the code is essentially the same for CR9/10/11/11.5.  The RDC does not ship with CR2008.
The important things to note are the changes to database connectivity and runtime deployment with the RDC since CR9.

    Hello,
In order to deploy the RDC runtime files you need to build a set up/deployment package using the RDC merge modules.  Business Objects does not support deploying the runtime files manually using tools like the VB6 Package and Deployment wizard.
Here's a link to an SAP Note with information on how to deploy the RDC runtime files: [RDC Runtime Deployment|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/oss_notes/sdn_oss_boj_erq/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/scn_bosap/notes.do].

Here's a link to an SAP Document with information on how to build an RDC deployment package: [Creating an RDC Distribution Package|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/901c0761-cf1d-2b10-dea4-8e83937a9337].
The merge module link in the first article has changed.  To find the RDC merge modules go to the Business Objects link (above in the horizontal menu bar) then click on the Business Objects Download link on the left hand menu, and then click on the "Get Crystal Reports, Crystal Reports Server, and Xcelsius downloads" link to launch the download page.
Search by filtering on Software Product: Crystal Reports, Product Version: XI Release 1, and Software Type: Utility.  You'll see the "Merge Modules for Crystal Reports XI and the RDC" download.
Or you can go there directly: "[Merge Modules for Crystal Reports XI and the RDC|https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100006009112008E/crXI_rdc_mm.zip]"
If you're using Crystal Reports XI Release 2 (v11.5) the information is essentially the same, however you'll have to download and use the XI R2 RDC merge modules instead.

    Hello,
Crystal never had merge modules for v8.5 - you have to build your own deployment package.  I think Wise or Installshield use to make their own merge modules way back in the day, but they were never supported by Crystal, and I doubt they're available anymore.
Additionally, VB6's Package and Deployment Wizard does not support configurable merge modules.  Current versions of Crystal Reports (v10, v11.0, v11.5) require that the license msm (for RDC deployment) be configured with the keycode.  The PDW won't support this.
    I hope this helps.

  • Deploy Visual Basic 6.0 RDC application using Crystal Reports 9 on Windows Vista

When attempting to deploy a Visual Basic 6.0 Report Designer Component (RDC) application using Crystal Reports 9 on Windows Vista systems, the application fails after the first print or preview (that show normally) and an error occurred: -2147417848 Method '' of object '' failed.
The app use the RDC and Active Data; I verify that the problem is encountered when the app calls the 'SetDataSource' method.

  • How to deploy a VB 6.0 RDC app using CR 9 on Windows Vista

    Hi,
I'm trying to deploy a VB 6.0 Report Designer Component (RDC) application using CR 9 on Windows Vista. The installation ends successfully and finally I started my app; all seems to be ok but if I launch a preview or a direct print to a printer (note: this first print/preview works normally) and I wait 2 o 3 minutes all the other attempts fail to print or view a report. It show an error: -2147417848 Method '' of object '' failed.
The app uses the RDC and Active Data; I tested that the problem is encountered when the app calls the 'SetDataSource' method. These are few lines of code:
...  Private m_ReportObj As New CRAXDRT.Report  Private db As DAO.Database, rsDao As Recordset
      ' Setup ReportObj  Set m_ReportObj = New TestReport  ' Open database  Set db = OpenDatabase(m_DBaseLocation & m_DBaseName)  ' Open Recordset  Set rsDao = db.OpenRecordset(m_SqlDataSource)  ' Set DataSource to ReportObj  m_ReportObj.Database.SetDataSource rsDao, 3 ' --> the app stops here...

  • Error deploying RDC to Windows 7

I have a VB6 application with the Crystal Reports Report Designer Component embedded in it.
When I deploy the application to a Windows 7 box, I get the following error :
"This system does not have a valid license, or the evaluation copy of the license has expired. Please contact Business Objects to obtain a Report Design Control License. "
The application runs fine when deployed to a Windows XP box.
    What can I do ?
    thanks
    kevin

    Hi Kevin,
    Moved to Legacy SDK support....
RDC is old technology and Windows 7 is new so it's not supported. Best effort only and is it's likely a permission issue.
Try registering keycode.dll and look for the registry key in Windows XP Local Machine, Software and then what ever version you are using and duplciate it in 7.
You may try enabling install logging and see what permissions errored or file errors. May be some dependency files missing also.
RDC is no longer supported or shipped as of CR 2008 so you should look at updating to Visual Studio .NET 2008 and using the CR .NET assemblies. RDC is not supported in .NET also.
    Thank you

  • Deploying crystal reports 8.5 - error in exporting to RTF & PDF

Hi guys. I'm at my wits end, trying to get a valid build of a legacy app running reports under Crystal 8.5 going.
I've scoured google for days, and I've tried almost everything people have suggested. At the moment I've got the installer working, it installs and registers all the crystal dll's that everyone says are needed. However, when I try and and export a report to RTF or PDF (other options like excel work fine), it simply dies, doing basically nothing. The save to disk dialog just closes and nothing happens. If I rename or delete crxf_rtf.dll, the program will crash or hang, indicating that this is the file responsible for exporting to rtf.
However, the only machine in our office that this will work on is one with a C:\Program Files\Seagate Software\crtslv.dll file.. Same kind of test indicates that on this machine, the above file is being used for exporting. So, where am I going wrong? It seems ludicrously difficult to find a straight, no-nonsense guide on how to deploy crystal reports 8.5; the official documentation doesn't even mention it! What is the easiest way to do this?
    I have tried several third-party options ( http://www.fryan0911.com/2008/09/crystal-report-85-runtime-files.html ) like these..
    Any ideas?
Ok so here's a further breakdown with some more information; hoping it might help someone to come up with an answer...
If I install a crystal "distributable", like the one linked above, and then install my project (with all crystal stuff turned off in the installer), everything works perfectly apart from exporting reports to rtf.
If I make my own installer, following the Runtime.hlp and the crpe32.dep, and put all dll's in the windows/system32 folder (apart from two, can't remember their names), I get two different errors, depending on the version of crpe32.dll I use.
One gives me "Error 20599: Cannot connect to SQL Server", whenever I try and run a report.
The other gives me "Error 20000: N", whenever I try and run a report.
Anything sound familiar here guys? I have dll dependency headache.
Again, more info - I just checked out the PC's already in deployment (we had to re-do in the installer for some changes, the guys who did it originally aren't around anymore), and here is a list of the dll's installed on the machine.. what deployment method would this point to?  And how can I replicate it?  I'm not sure if I grabbed all the required DLL's from the client machine, as it didn't seem to follow the Crystal 8.5 deployment instructions, I could have easily have missed some? So I can't just use what I've got to create an installer and hope that it works...

Wow. I've never seen an app load all 3 SDKs in one go. the RDC, Automation Server, OCS and print engine APIs all in one (?!)Who wrote this app?
Don't know - the app was written years ago.. It's all a bit messed up, i'm just the cleaner :S
Once again, I have not a clue as to what SDK you are using.
What Sp1, SP2, SP3? Do you have links to these?
By SP3, I meant Windows XP Service Pack  3, 2, 1 - I've read around the net that Crystal 8.5 exporting breaks when you install sp3, and I thought that perhaps my deployments were failing because they were compiled on a sp3 box?
There is also CR 8.5 Service Pack 3 - apparently it can make CR work on Vista/Win7?
    http://resources.businessobjects.com/support/additional_downloads/service_packs/crystal_reports_en.asp
I have tried installing on dev machine, recompiling installer and running on test box - doesn't seem to help..
Do you have any machine where this actually works?
Yep, it's working on the clients machine - that is the one suffixed as "AA" in the linked difference file above
1st place to start is with a working app - is there such a thing? ^^
Next you want to know what SDK you are using.
Ok, so the VB6 app, under Project > References, lists : cpeaut32.dll
under Project > Components, lists: Crystl32.ocx
    Is that any help?
Then you want to know what dlls to deploy.
Knowing the database connection type is good.  - ODBC
Knowing the version of the db client that works is good. But that depends on having an actual working app.
Do you have CR 8.5 designer and are you able to run and refresh the report there?
Yep, I have 8.5 designer, and I can run and export the report fine.. But when I run MODULES on it, it's referencing C:\Program Files\Seagate Software\Shared\ExportModeller.dll & crtslv.dll..  Which don't exist on the client machine at this point in time..
I'd recommend you stop doing what ever you are doing, answer the questions and wait until I get back. As it is, you're all over the place and by the time I have a chance to reply, you're 1000 miles out in the bushes on your own. So, please answer the questions above and wait...

  • Native XML Driver Deployment

For a while we had trouble using the native xml driver, but it has been worked out here:
VB6 & XML Datasource using Native XML Driver
In that thread there was mention of deploying the driver, and some extra work that needed to happen. I found those instructions repeated again here for another user:
    https://boc.sdn.sap.com/node/1428
We have followed the instructions of coping the required files and java runtime to a new test client, but our reports do not launch.. we get this error after a good 30 seconds of hang-time,
    Invalid Argument Provided
I've doubled checked the instructions and all files are copied, and edited the crconfig.xml to point to the new j2re bin folder. There doesn't appear to be many discussions with this error, what does it mean? Thanks.
Note that we are using the RDC, Native XML Driver, Crystal Reports XI R2 SP4.

Ok I went over the process again, and am a little confused -
Install the Java (JVM) 2 Runtime Environment (this is essentially the Java Framework needed to launch the crdb_xml native driver 1.4.2 from the java sun web site at:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html.
    Create a java folder inside the " C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Common\3.0";.
Copy over the Crconfig.xml(C:\Program Files\Common Files\Business Objects\3.0\java) file from the development machine to the deployed machine in at the following path "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Business Objects\3.0\java" path. Open the crconfig.xml ; this file in Notepad and search for the line <JavaDir>. If JRE is installed to C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_12\bin then the value should be look like this <JavaDir> C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_12\bin</JavaDir>.
    Create a folder called lib in the "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Business Objects\3.0\java".
Copy over the entire contents of the lib folder (especially the external folder) from the development machine to the newly created lib machine on the deployed machine. The point of this is to ensure that the crconfig.xml file contains all the files here which exist at the correct path which they now should because we copied over the lib and external directories.
Copy crdb_xml.dll, crdb_xml_res_en, and all the files with "crdb_xml_res_xx from your development machine to the deployment machine (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Business Objects\3.0\bin).
Restart your machine and try accessing your web application. The reports will show up the data without any issue.
The above is written for CR XI release 1. You may have to adjust the path given above as you do not specify the version of Crystal reports you are using.
On my development machine,  there is no Crconfig.xml  at this location (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Business Objects\3.0\java)   .  In fact the java folder is not there either, I only see bin and crystalreportviewers11 folders.  Can these instructions be confirmed for me as accurate? I do not even see a 3.5 folder under C:\Program Files\Common Files\Business Objects\

  • Add a formula using RDC

Hi, I have a problem with RDC and Crystal XI. If I install the Crystal Report complete this code works fine:
    l_ole_crx_report.FormulaFields.add("checkselection",my_string)
but if I deploy runtime using merge modules from business object site I get an error such as "Null object reference".  Notice that it seems that only Add function doesn't work because the following works fine:
    l_ole_crx_report.FormulaFields.Item(ll_y).text = my_string
    Thanks in advance

    Hello kk,
    try to start simple:
    when giving the formula
    Difference (4, 5)
Does it show the value 1?
If yes, try this (assuming your grid is called grid1):
    Difference(grid1.column[A], grid1.column[B])
Has this column also a row with a formula?
Does this function work on other reports?
This should work. Otherwise give more details on the error and the columns.
    Regards,
    Philip Hulsebosch.

  • Successfully embedded/deployed CR XI Viewer!... but not Designer :(

    Post Author: Xevoius
    CA Forum: Deployment
    Greetings,
I am trying to get the ActiveX dialog based C++ MFC program work on another XP computer and I was able to build an windows installer using the RDC merge modules that allows a Viewer client application to run; however, I am not able to run any applications I build that have an embedded Designer.
I suspect it is the m_Application->SetLicenseKeycode("XXXXX-XXXXXXX-XXXXXXX-XXXX" ) call that is causing me problems.
Has anyone experienced this and found a solution?
    Anything would be helpful.
    ~Cheers

I find it hard to believe Crystal doesn't support OpenType fonts as I am told by my design group that OpenType fonts are a "superior, widely-supported format".  I am finding this limitation very frustrating as my organization has a specific set of OpenType fonts that we are expected to use for branding purposes, but I can't use them in my reports!  And I can't find TrueType versions of the fonts, so I am forced to use other fonts and end up with a very different end product.
    Please reconsider!
    Thank you.
