RDP Session Disconnect/Reconnect when RemoteApp is in Not Responding State (Server 2012)

Some of our applications running in our RDS environment tend to enter the Not Responding state while they're waiting for something in the background to happen (open a window, perform a calculation, etc.). When this happens we notice that the RemoteApp session
will quickly disconnect and then reconnect. This causes an issue with dialog boxes. For example, printing to PDF. A lot of time the dialog box for specifying where to save the PDF is in the background because RemoteApp disconnected and reconnected
causing the program your printing from to become the window of focus. This makes user think the program is truly not responding when in reality the dialog box is hidden and waiting for them. They then need to click the icon on the taskbar to access the
dialog window.
To my knowledge we never had this issue with Server 2008 R2. Any help with this is greatly appreciated!

Is the server 2012 R2?
Please confirm in the logs that a disconnect/reconnect is occurring. On the client you would look at TerminalServices-ActiveXCore and on the server side you would look at TerminalServices-LocalSessionManager.
When this happened you had a continuous ping to the server and it did not lose any pings?
Having solid pings is a good sign, but you can still have a network problem that will cause the connection to drop. You may want to update the NIC driver and firmware to the latest version recommended by your server manufacturer.
Additionally you should consider any routers/switches/etc. that are between the clients and the server as potentially suspect. For example, I have seen where a NAT router would drop a connection periodically, then the connection would be re-established
and not have issues (until the next time). One way to test would be to swap in a different make and model router/switch and see if the problem still exists.

Can you specify the error which you are facing during VDI setup for server 2012?
I might think that you need to check the memory setting for server 2012, as might happens that due to less memory you can’t setup the VDI setup properly.
Memory: If the Master VM is configured with static memory, it must have at least 1024 MB as startup RAM. If the Master VM is configured with dynamic memory, the maximum RAM must be at least 1024 MB.

Windows 8.1 New PC USB constantly disconnects reconnect when the pc goes to sleep?

Everything has been working like a charm on my new PC build. The only thing I have been having issues with is more of an annoyance. PC goes to sleep then pc makes the usb disconnecting/reconnecting noise. I cant find out how to stop the noise from happening.
All my usb devices work fine once the pc comes back up. I tried to disconnect one device at a time and it does it with all the usb connections no matter what is connected. Any help?

Windows server 2012 RDP Session - Default Start Menu Layout Downloaded Apps Not Displayed

Hopefully someone can help me to resolve a problem that's holding me back a little regarding the start menu for all users that connect to remote desktop sessions on Windows Server 2012.
I would like all users to have the same default application set upon login. Using a temporary user called 'Start Menu' I created the exact layout that I require all users to have. I installed the tile apps from the store with the 'Start Menu' user.
I then used the PowerShell command:

Using GPO I then applied this layout to all users. However when I login as any other users I only actually get the OneDrive app and none of the others.
Can someone please point me in the right direction. The store can not be run as administrator and the 'Start Menu' user had administrator rights when the apps were added from the store.

You can check the GPO setting “pin Apps to Start when installed” which will pin the new program to start and other setting “Start Screen Layout” which will lets you specify the Start screen layout for users and prevents them from changing

Having trouble getting "Set action to take when logon hours expire" to work - Windows Server 2012

I have a Windows Server 2012 server that allows remote desktop users (sessions are hosted on the server itself). I'm trying to enforce logon hours for these remote desktop users.
I have specified logon hours for a user and confirmed that they work--they aren't allowed to logon when logon hours are disabled. However, they are allowed to continue a session past their logon hours limit if they are already signed in (which is fine, this
is the default behavior).
However, when I try to use the `Set action to take when logon hours expire` option (`User Configuration/Administrative Templates/Windows Components/Windows Logon Options/Set action to take when logon hours expire`), and set the behavior to "Logoff",
nothing happens--the user can continue their session happily. I've tried applying this policy both for the user's group and for the local computer. I've run `gpresult` for the user and confirmed that the policy is apparently in place.
I also naively tried the "Force logoff when logon hours expire" option, but that apparently doesn't apply to interactive logins (confusing!).
Am I misapplying this setting, or do I need to take some other steps to get it to work? I'd be grateful for any input. Thanks!

We can log off and log on again to see whether the setting gets applied.

HT1853 My laptop lost connection with itunes while my ipod was in do not disconnect mode. My ipod will not respond now and still shows do not disconnect?

My ipod was connected to my laptop and in the 'Do not Disconnect' mode. My computer rebooted after security scan and now my iPod is stuck in the 'Do not Disconnect' mode. The iPod will not turn off, nor will my itunes recognize it is connect.

Try a hard reset of the iPod. To do this, press and hold both the Select/Center and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

Error -51 when trying to copy file to windows server 2012

When I try to copy a file from OSX to windows server 2012 share, it acts like its going to start and i get a pinwheel and finder is acting slow and finally error -51. although it does seem to copy over the folder with correct name but no files inside. I had this issue on mavericks as well and now on yosemite beta. Please help!

If the drive is formatted HFS then you are limited to 32 characters on a file name. If it is formatted HFS + then you can have file names as long as 255 characters. I am not familiar withi the format you say the drive is formatted in so I can't speak to it.
If you are receiving -50 errors that can indicate a file name that is too long OR an illegal character in the filename regardless of its length.
If you are actually using 10.3.8 as your profile states then that may be part of the problem. Many of these problems existed in 10.3.X but were fixed in 10.4
I remember that 10.3.8 had issues copying to external drives when there were more than a certain number of characters in a filename. I don't remember the number but for some reason 10 or 12 is what comes to mind. It caused me many problems when I would try and copy files to a Zip disk that I used to have. Since I updated to 10.4 those issues have never occured again.
Since you know what folder the problematic files are in why not just open the folder and try to copy files one at a time. When you get to the one(s) that is a problem, change the file name to something shorter.
A better solution would be to update to 10.4 but with 10.5 coming out sometime in the Spring of 2007 this may not be the time.

Please help me, USB Devices instantly disconnect/reconnect when using keyboard

I own a Lenovo 3000 C200. IIf I start typing while I have any USB device plugged in (USB mouse, Removable HDD, etc), the USB device instantly disconnects and reconnects again. As long as I don't touch my keyboard, the USB device will work fine. I have noticed that this does not happen when I press the the other keys like the Lenovo care button, volume increase / decrease key, etc. and doesn't happen when I use the touchpad. I have not dropped or damaged my machine in any way.
At the beginning, thinking it might be a windows problem, I had re-installed windows (XP) with no drivers installed and the problem persisted. I installed the latest update available for the BIOS still with no luck. I have checked the BIOS, however there is nothing related in anyway that can be configured.
Just now I have noticed that the problem begins, as soon as I turn on the machine. Hardware problem perhapsI
Please help me.

This happened to me exactly the same, you must updated the latest bios version 2.06.
Now go to the Lenovo website to download the oldest version 1.02 and the 1.08, first flash the 1.02 then flash again using the 1.08 that it, don't use the 2.06 which is the porblem source file for some 3000 notebooks.

The best you can do is take the iPhone and charger to an Apple store genius bar and have the technicians test the system to see if it needs to be replaced. We are fellow users and not Apple employees so cannot do that for you.

Why is my wireless disconnecting frequently when using Safari but not Firefox.

Hi Sebaz, first try repairing permissions. Go to Applications-->Utilities-->select Disk Utility. Select your drive then select the First Aid button then at the bottom right click Verify Disk and after it verifies your drive click on Verify Disk Permissions on the left. If there any errors click on Repair Disk Permission. Reboot your machine and test your Safari to see if the issue comes back.

Is it no longer possible to publish remoteapps using MSI?
The problem with this is that it's not possible to do file associations unless you use the Remote Desktop Web Connection.

Firefox hangs and I end, i start again, firefox asks, restore or new session, both go nowhere or firefox does not respond..help?

Firefox hung up..I had facebook open in one tab and searched around the web in another. I tried to load USAtoday site and it hung up. I used task manager to end firefox. I started firefox again, window comes up, it ask if i want to restore or start new session..i have clicked both and it goes nowhere..have to end..downloaded firefox again..same result..

If you close Firefox, then start Firefox in Safe Mode, does the problem still occur? For instructions on starting in Safe Mode, see [[Safe Mode]].
If Safe Mode does, work, a possible culprit might be '''AFI News Headquarters Toolbar'''. Try disabling that without Safe Mode and see if the problem reoccurs.

Login prompt appears for web app when sql db is not on same server as WebAp

I am deploying a VS2005 web application on a server (which has crytalReportsviewer); lets call that server A. The database the crystal reports access are on a different server, server B. In this scenario, when I run the web application, and try to bring up the reports on the web page, I get login prompt. Even if I provide valid login credentials (I have set up a user for this purpose the behavior is erratic; for some reports the report is displayed and for others it errors out with 'unknown error' message.
If I put the sql db on the same server, it works fine.
I use the crystal reports application to update the database source. When I do this, I use Ole db connection and set the 'integrated security' to true. But setting the integrated security to true does not bypass the login screen on the web app.
My question is, how do I set up the report database parameters (connection string etc) so that the user of the web application does not have to go through the login screen when the web application and the sql db does not reside on the same server.

Error: Invalid Parameter when trying to extend volume in Windows Server 2012

From VMware, I added space to a Hard Drive to a Windows Server 2012 VM. I then went into the WinServer console, and opened Disk Management. I did a rescan on the disk. It found the extra space. I right mouse click on the Disk,
and choose Extend Volume, choose the available space, and then an error returned of 'Invalid Parameter'.
In Disk Manager, the new larger space is assigned, but Windows Explorer and everything else only recognizes the original smaller size.
EventManager shows Event ID 265: A pointer device did not report a valid unit of angular measurement. Event ID 257: A pointer device reported a bad angular physical range. Event ID 258: A pointer device reported a bad angular logical range.
Anyone have a solution for this problem?

Please try to use the command line utility diskpart to extend the drive.
1. Open a command prompt
2. Type in diskpart
3. Type list volume
4. Type select volume #
5. Type extend [size=n] [disk=n]
