RDP to Windows Teminal Services 2012

Hi
A third party has set up our environment and we could do with a bit of ABC (dummies guide) to overcome some frustrating challenges.
A.  We have a network connection at a remote site.   Any PC (Windows 7) connecting to it and then trying to RDP into the terminal server gives "Access is Denied".   If we RDP using administrator access
then it logs in.   We have ascertained RDP works as we can RDP into other servers.  At the same site, other network/wireless connections work and RDP is OK.   The IP address has been checked and nothing awry.   The PCs when
connected to that network connection works fine, can see the network, browse the internet fine, etc.
Our thought is that there is some setting on the firewall/router particular to that network connection that is denying access to non-administrators on the terminal server.   Is anyone able to point us in the right direction as to what this setting
could be and give us a dummies guide on how to access that setting.
B.  This is similar and may be related.  We have Linux OSs (on Old XP machines) that RDP onto our terminal servers.   They work from our HQ but the terminal server seems to reject 2 out of 3 connections.  i.e. the
first two/three attempts and it does not login.   The next attempt and it will login successfully.  Again is there any setting we should be looking at on the terminal servers here?
C.  This is a strange one.   From our remote site, we cannot access the terminal servers via their name so need to use an IP address.   The Linux OSs (on Old XP machines) log in successfully after a few attempts
(B), but as soon as you begin to type, the terminal server throws you out.   i.e. you could be OK typing away for max 2 mins but you will be thrown out.  Again is there any setting we should be looking at on the terminal servers here?
Our suspicion on all three is that there is a security setting somewhere for RDP users that we need to switch off/reduce that is causing all these issues.  i.e. Some sort of additional checking when we RDP from a non-windows PC or slightly differently
configured network connection!!
Help is really appreciated.

Hi,
Thank you for your posting in Windows Server Forum.
First of all check that you have added your user under “Remote Desktop User” local group for getting access to server remotely. Also check that user are added under “Allow log on through Remote Desktop Services”
in GPO setting under below mention path.
Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment
Please check beneath article for detail.
1. Configure Permissions for Remote Desktop Services Connections
2. RDS 2012 Configure Permissions for Remote Desktop Services
Connections
For not able to access server remotely with server name, it seems that DNS is not resolving your server name with its IP address. Please check DNS record for this. Please check below article for more information.
1. RDS: The alternative server name must resolve to the IP address of the redirection server
2. Cannot Connect to Remote Systems Using Host Name
Hope it helps!
Thanks,
Dharmesh

  • Windows Deployment Services 2012 - Driver Group filter by Model value not working - Drivers are not installed!

    Hi,
I'm using Windows Deployment Services 2012 to deploy Windows 7 Pro x64 driverless images to different hardware models (drivers are injected using WDS). I already have organized the drivers in driver groups per
hardware model. I'm experiencing driver conflicts so I decided to start using driver group filters to make sure that the driver groups are available only available for the corresponding hardware model.
To get the correct values for the filters i have used the following method: (as described in this article: http:// technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd759191.aspx)
    so I checked msinfo32.exe
(System Manufacturer: Dell Inc.     System Model: OptiPlex 790)
and set these values in the driver group filter:
Then fired up WDS using PXE booting on my OptiPlex but when finished: No drivers are installed! I investigated further and found on forums to use the following commands (which return the same values btw):
    wmic bios get manufacturer
    (returns: Dell Inc.)
    wmic computersystem get manufacturer
    (returns: Dell Inc.)
    wmic computersystem get model
    (returns: OptiPlex 790)
Values are the same so no problem there.
Then I checked the output of the following commands:
wmic bios get model (returned: error, invalid query)
wmic bios get /all (returned: all kind of information but no model value)
When I remove the value "OptiPlex 790" from the filter list the drivers are installed correctly. So this has to be some problem with the Model value.
    Could someone please help me?
As a workaround I now disable all the driver groups exept the one that I need for the hardware. But as more new hardware models are added this is a lot of work to do everytime.
    Extra info:
    I'm using a WINPE 4.0 image (windows 7 media boot.wim file). 6.1.7.601
Windows Server version: Windows Server 2012 - version 6.2 (Build 9200) - All Windows updates are installed
    Windows Deployment Services version 6.2.9200.16384
Having this problem on multiple systems
    Questions:
    - Does WDS/WinPE uses only the Bios values for determining system info? (then this problem could be with Dell in this example, because no model value is available)
    - Is this the correct way to set up driver group filters? (then this is a problem with MS. Does anyone have solution??)
Thank you for your answers & help!

    Hi Microsoft,
I still have no answer to my Questions.
Thank you for your answers & help!

  • Windows Deployment Services 2012 - Driver Group Filters, does "Model" filter work?

I have been trying to get the "model driver filter" working in Windows Deployment Services 2012 however so far haven't had any luck. I am trying to build a HP Elitebook 840 G1.
To get the exact model name I'm running msinfo32.exe or wmic computersystem get model which return the same output.
Looking at other forum posts this seems to be a common problem, has anyone found a solution as none of the posts give any solution?

    Hi ClaytonSJ,
Please first confirm you have choose the corresponding
winpe and you can refer the following same scenario driver pack settings and compare your setting.

  • Windows Search Service Crashes on Windows Server 2012 R2

    Hi,
I'm running Windows Search service on a Windows Server 2012 R2 (24GB RAM, 8-core proc). The index catalog has a little over 2 million items (files and folders indexed).
Every once in a while this service crashes, and either remains in limbo or automatically recovers and restarts the index from zero. I'm trying to find out information about what may be causing the crashes and about how to prevent them. Unfortunately, I don't
seem to be able to find much about the Windows Search service on Windows Server 2012 R2. So anyone who may have input on this, please chip in.
    Additional info:
    - As mentioned above, the server OS is Windows Server 2012 R2. This is a physical server with 24GB RAM, 8-core proc and over 2TB of storage.
    - This server acts as a DC and as a File Server. In addition to this and Windows Search service, there are no other major services running here
    - Symantec Endpoing protection is installed and running on this server, but I've made sure to exclude the Window Search database from SEP
Here are some of the errors that are generated when the issue happens:
The error below may show up in the event logs. If it shows up more than once, the indexing service has likely crashed and won't recover.

I attempted to stop the indexing service, but it didn't stop. I noticed though that the indexing GUI started responding as soon as the
the service stop command failed. The indexing service seems to have picked up where it was (~300K items) and continued indexing.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your post.
To resolve this problem, use the Registry Editor to change the default timeout value for all services.
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/13765.event-id-7011-service-timeout.aspx
Please note before making changes to the registry, you should back up any valued data.

  • Windows Firewall Service Crashes on Windows Server 2012

    Hello Team,
I am facing issues with Windows Firewall Service in new Windows 2012 R2 deployments. when i try to start the Firewall service it wont start and it throws an error message to check the system event logs for information
The Windows Firewall service terminated with the following service-specific error:
    The data is invalid.
I deployed this OS on a VM running with latest VM tools and HW version which is running on ESXi 5.1 U1
    2 GB RAM, 1 vCPU
OS deployed through ISO downloaded from MS portal and License activated through KMS system, performed a couple of reboots as well.
any advise on this issue? i am sure some of you might have also faced the same issue

    1. VMware support forum and knowledge base may give you more specific advice.
    2. Windows services may be dependent on another service(s). Analyze these dependences. Do it after you understand implications of VMware firewall function.
    3. More detailed info from Event log is needed for analysis (Event ID, etc)
    4. Hope you have connectivity configured correctly.
    5. For firewall in VMware read the following article(s):

  • Windows Search Service Best Pratices on RDP Server with office 2013

    high everybody,
i´m looking for guide how to configure the Windows Search Service on our Server 2012 RDS Servers. The Servers have Office 2013 installed so turning off the Search Service is not an Option. We are using User Profile disks and logoff was getting slower
as time goes by. Reading in another thread if have deleted the Subkeys under
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Search\CrawlScopeManager\Windows\SystemIndex\DefaultRules
    and restarted the Search Service.
This Resulted in a lighning fast logoff ( less then 5 Seconds) before that logoff took up to 2 Minutes. Looking at the Reg Key´s i found that underneth the mentioned Key there was a subkey for each user that has EVER loged on to this Server. Normal load
should be about 30 Users and i found about 700 subkey´s. To it seems that this causes the Search Service searchindexer.exe to read thru all this key´s witch i think is not the Problem ( Internet Explorer does far more reads and writes) but what happens
    with the Information.
Maybe it has to to with the fact, that we are using User Profile Disks ?
In the Search Service Policy i have excluded "C:","users homedrive" and the Share where the Users share theyr data, for the Search Service to exclude.
So does anybode have experience with Seach Service on RDS Servers with Office maybe with User Profile Disks ?
    Thanks Reiner

    Hi Reiner,
You can check the following article might helpful to resolve your case.
Incomplete search results may occur in Outlook when a PDF iFilter is installed
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2925203/en-us
Also try uninstalling office 2013 application and then reinstall by running change user /install command in elevated command prompt on RDS server prior to install software's. Post software installation you need to run
change user /execute command on server

  • Is there a way to change the Windows Update service startup type on Windows Server 2012 R2?

We have a number of newly built 2012 R2 servers that we have HP Operations Manager agent running on that monitors the status of several services and reports if they are "stopped". One of these services is Windows Update. Every day we
get at least one alert saying:
"Service "Windows Update" is not started. Current state is stopped"
Checking the event logs shows that the Windows Update service stops, then a while later it just starts again. Not an error, just an information event.
In Windows 2012 R2 the Windows Update service is set to "Automatic (Trigger Start)", where in previous versions we run (2012/2008R2) it would be set to just "Automatic" or "Automatic (Delayed Start)"
I have come to understand that this behaviour is normal for Windows 2012 R2, and that Trigger Start services by design stop themselves after a period of inactivity. I was unable to find any info on how this works. Our client would like this to
be changed and the Windows Update service stay running all the time, understanding that this impacts performance.
Is there a way to change the Windows Update service in Server 2012 R2 to the old Automatic startup behaviour so that it stays running all the time instead of stopping and starting periodicall? There is no option to do this via the services mmc
    gui.
    So far I have tried:
Removing the Triggers using the command: sc triggerinfo wuauserv delete
This works temporarily, the service then shows as just Automatic in the services console, however if you restart the server or restart the service it goes right back to being Automatic (Trigger Start).
Any kind of help would be appreciated.

    This one might help.

  • Reporting Services 2012 for SharePoint and SQL Server Agent "Subscriptions and Alerts"

After installing Reporting Services for SharePoint (Denali) in my test farm, I'm trying to configure the "SQL Server Agent" access for Reporting Services.  From Central Admin I'm going to the Reporting Service applicaiton configuration screen and selecting
"Provision Subscriptions and Alerts".  I've tried both options on this screen.  I've manually executed the "download sql script" in SQL Server, as well as entering a user with SQL sys admin rights on the SQL server into the login fields on the screen.
The role and permissions have been created for the application pool service account, but Reporting Services is still trying to connect with the annonymous login because I'm getting the following alert each time I open the "Provision Subscriptions and Alerts"
    screen:
Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'
The "status" on the screen still shows "SQL Server Agent State cannot be determined".  Has anyone else seen this?
    Thanks!!

    Thanks for your reply!
    1) Looks like the new Reporting Services does not run as a Windows Service so it's not listed in the "Configure Service Accounts" pulldown.  As a result, I don't see how to set the service account.  It's only assigned to an application pool.
I installed it into an existing application pool and that application pool "is" in the list and has a domain service account already assigned.
    2) Which users need to be in here in order to configure the "Provision Subscriptions and Alerts" screen?  I already have the farm admin account which is the account I use when running Central Admin.
    3) As mentioned in #1, I've installed Reporting Services into an existing application pool with other service apps.
    4) This link is for Reporting Services 2008 R2 which is very different install process.  But I did follow the SQL Server Reporting Services 2012 RC0 installation instructions and the Reporting Services is functioning correctly with no errors.
I'm just not able to configure the sceduling the alerting with interfaces with the SQL Server Agent.
    Thanks!

  • HP UFT 12.02 not installing on Windows 7 Service Pack 1

HP UFT 12.02 is not installing on Windows 7 Service Pack 1. But the Install Guide says it supports and recommends Windows 7 Service Pack 1 as the Operating System.

    Hey Hello Dear,
Please upgrade UR windows 7 Service pack to Service pack 2.
from my knowledge for SQL SERVER 2012 it requires Windows 7 service pack.
And before installing SQL server 2012 Plz activate .NET framework for that,
Put UR windows 7 Format CD then,
Run Command prompt as Administrator and paste following cmd in that
    DISM.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFX3 /All /Source:c:\net35 /LimitAccess
it will take 2 min. after that restart your PC and try to install SQL server 2012.
Note: Before installing SQL SERVER again format UR PC/lapy once.
After this if it gives error while installation then plz change ur setup and try again.
    This will be helpful.

I have found a fix after doing additional research through this forum. Tech Note #328730 addresses this problem and it works for Photoshop Album 3.2 even though it was written for release 1.0.
Here is a link that will take you directly to the Tech Note:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=328730
When using this fix the Tech Note indicates:
"Imported image data and tags are lost when you re-create the My Catalog.psa file, so you need to reimport images and reapply any tags"
however it did retain the captions (at least it did for me).

  • Windows Firewall damaged by 'Windows 7 antivirus 2012'

    I run Windows 7. I think 64bit, not sure.
I have been getting hit with a lot of rogue antiviruses and up till now have been fighting them off, but last night I was hit by a new rendition of "Windows 7 Antivirus 2012".
I got a window saying explorer.exe wanted to make changes to my computer, I would tell it no and each time it would return. In between the constantly returning window I managed to open the task manager, find the process, and end the process. I then found
the file and destroyed it with killbox.
Everything seems to be back in working order now, except for the firewall. Every page in the control panel for windows firewall gives me an Administrator button that says use reccomended settings', when I click it it says it can't do that and gives
me error 0x800705b4, which I understand to be an authentication error.
The last time I had this I tried to reset my firewall with an admistrator command prompt, it would tell me it could not load wshelper.dll, so I did some stuff I cannot remember to reset my winsock and was then able to reset my firewall and all was good again.
This time when I go into command.com and type 'netsh advfirewall reset' instead of the DLL message, I get 'An error occoured while attempting to contact the  Windows Firewall service. Make sure the service is running and try your request again'.
In my attempts to fix this myself I have been to the device manager. I had it 'show hidden devices' and located my Windows Firewall Authorization driver. I found it had been stopped, and so I started it again. It currently says it is started, but nothing
    has changed functionally.
I have been into Services as an Administrator; Windows Firewall is not there. I was also told to look for Windows Event Controller and Base Filtering Engine and they are not there either.
I have done an administrator command promtp with sfc /scannow and the first time it said it had made changes and the second time it said everythign was alright but nothing functionally has changed.
I have been told to enter the following command prompts and gotten - the following results
netsh advfirewall reset - error stated above
net start mpsdrv - The requested service has already been started
net start bfe - The service name is invalid
net start mpssvc - the service name is invalid
regsvr32 firewallapi.dll - Popup window stating DllRegisterServer in firewallapi.dll succeeded
    no functional change after that.
I have also been told to try:
sc config wuauserv start= auto - [SC] ChangeServiceConfig SUCCESS
sc config bits start= auto - [SC] ChangeServiceConfig SUCCESS
sc config DcomLaunch start= auto - Access is denied.
net stop wuauserv - The Windows Update service was stopped successfully.
net start wuauserv - The Windows Update service was started successfully.
net stop bits - The Backround Intelligent Transfer Service was stopped successfully.
net start bits - The Backround Intelligent Transfer Service was started successfully.
net start dcomlaunch - The requested service has already been started.
I have also tried a system restore, but whatever is screwing with my firewall is also screwing with that an it will not complete successfully.
A Windows XP thread steered me toward a file called, I believe, netfw.inf in my windir folder, related to the firewall. This does not seem to be on my Windows 7 machine and I have been unable to find the Windows 7 equivalent.
So, it appears my firewall is gone, or just pretending to be. I fixxed it last time by making some correction to my winsock but I cannot seem to find the process I used for that. Additionally, Microsoft Security Essentials has dissapeared from my system
tray, though otherwise seems to be working fine.
I am confident that this can be fixxed without a wipe and reinstall. Please help.

    Hi

  • Windows Deployment Services Unable to PXE boot clients PXE-E53: No Boot Filename Received

    Hi
I'm trying to configure WDS/MDT to deploy Windows 8.1. I've captured an image and I'm ready to deploy the image to a workstation, as per the above title when I attempt to PXE boot a test workstation it just times out with the following error message PXE-E52:No
Boot Filename Recieved. I've tried a few tweaks to get it working however no such luck.
The setup is as follows it's a virtual Windows 2012 R2 machine, just a fresh member server with microsoft deployment toolkit installed and WDS role installed with the nesscary framework features installed.
I've tried tweaking the properties of most of the settings within the server settings in WDS with no such luck.
I'm a novice at WDS but from what I've read I shouldn't need configure that much in the first place to get it working.
I'm willing to bet it will be something I've overlooked so I need a 2nd opinon, could anyone provide any troubleshooting tips. If you require anymore information please let me know.
    Cheers

    Hi Joel,
This error may caused by the WDS server is not pushing the images because PXE Clients are not able to download or communicate with the TFTP server.
The image can’t be download generally caused by the the Vlan is not enabled IP helper/DHCP relay agent configured on it, all DHCP broadcasts on UDP port 67 by client computers
should be forwarded directly to both the DHCP server and the Windows Deployment Services PXE server.
