Re emmitters and match move with SLOW smoke

I am trying to put some smoke into far distance chimneys, and the background is pan moving.
If I use match move, I don't get the same floating gently upwards effect that I get if its stationery. How can I pan and yet achieve the same effect. Otherwise it looks like an extremely windly day and the smoke is billowing in the same match move as the background, yet I want the smoke to come out of the stack and move with the pan.
Also I cant seem to get an extremely slow speed for the smoke to emitt, even with speed on 1... and loads of other tweeking i.e low birth long liffe...its still a bit too fast. Any tricks and advice please..???

Glad you solved your problem... There are ways to improve Motion's interactive performance.
1) If you're using Ram Preview, clear it periodically.
2) Keep your render quality at Draft or Good until the very end.
3) Text is especially draining of resources in Motion 3. Turn off layers you've finished with to improve performance while you work in other areas.
4) Definitely turn off Timeline and Layer thumbnails.
5) Don't have any layer selected when playing - the thumbnail for the Inspector Tab has to be generated when you stop.

  • Using Match Move with a filter?

    I have a png of a magnifying glass. I want to create the cliché magnifying glass moving over type effect, bulging accordingly. The Bulge filter gives me the right look. But how do I get the magnifying glass and Bulge filter center to move together? I've tried Match Move, but all the type moves as well as the Bulge center. I've tried animating the Bulge center and copy/pasting its XY coordinates to the magnifying glass Group. Neither works.
    Brain hurt. Help please.

    You want to use the Track parameter behavior which—like other parameter behaviors—can be applied to any animatable parameter, such as the Bulge filter's centerpoint. There's even a handy shortcut: just right-click on the filter's centerpoint control in the Canvas, and you should see a popup menu appear with "Track" in it. Selecting that will apply Track and connect it to the centerpoint for you. You'll still need to pick a tracking target, etc, but it sounds like you already know to do that bit.

  • Motion 3 - Motion Tracking and Match Move

    Hi, I have no problem learning how to use motion tracking or match move because there's plenty of tutorials online. My question is, if let's say i motion tracked a clip to my original clip and half way through the movie an obstacle comes into the position where my motion tracked clip is. How do i make is so the obstacle appears in front of the motion tracked clip?

    The place where they put the GPS clip, if while the girl is driving she moves her hand in front of the GPS. How would we make it so that her hand appears in front of the GPS not behind it?

    If I am understanding you correctly, it sounds like you are asking how to have an object that is part of the background layer appear in front of an object that you are going to composite in an match-move.
    The only way to do that is to duplicate the background layer and move it in front of the layer you are bringing in, then create a mask around the portion of layer you want to keep (in the example you provide - the girl's hand).
    You would have to go frame-by-frame and animate the mask to follow her hand - very time consuming but I don't see any other way.

  • Matching movement with foreground and background

    I have a hot o someone speaking lines that wasn't shot on a tripod, in front of a green screen. The background is a still picture. I'm trying to get the background to shift whenever the actor does so h matches his environment. The tracker seems to be having trouble because other than the subject, there is nothing in the shot for the trackers to reference. It seems to be tracking him fine but when I apply the tracking data to the background, it flies around wildly when the subject moves his head. I've tried using the older tracker, just using position and scale, and I've tried using the 3D tracker. I feel like this should be fairly simple. Any other information needed I will gladly supply. Thanks in advance!

    The head doesn't move that much more than the rest of his body, the trouble was mostly that he shakes his head a little bit.  That's when the background would go nuts.  I can get a perfect track from his head.  There were two different points that stuck really well.  His nostril and (even better) his ear lobe.  I couldn't get anything below his neck (or the neck itself) that I could track.  Here's a screenshot of the scene.
    I'm going to try the route with the null layer, I had forgotten about that option.  As far as the video that you posted goes, is that supposed to have audio with it?  That's the only thing that made it really hard to follow.  I'm going to keep plugging away to see if I can get this to work.  I'll be back either with more questions or to mark this answered.  Thanks for the help!

    FCExpress does not export MPEG2. Never has.
    You will have to export another format and then convert it to MPEG2 using Compressor, which is available in Final Cut Studio; or you could use ffmpegx except I don't believe it's been updated since Tiger (OS X 10.4) and there have been reports that it only installs with difficulty on 10.5 or 10.6. Read the ffmpegx download instructions carefully before starting an install.
    Another thing - you do know that your EOS Rebel shoots H.264 video, right, and you will have to convert that to QuickTime Apple Intermediate Codec before you import it into FCE ... MPEG Streamclip is a great utility to use for that purpose.

    Yes, HDMI is the only supported method. Also, with converters you will run into issues with HDCP (which will prevent you from streaming DRM content from iTunes etc) as well as resolution.

    1. Simple. It's just a matter of adding two keyframes to an effects container that change the opacity level over time.
    2. Very possible. Add any of the dozens of animation presets to a LiveType timeline and look in the Inspector's Effects tab to see what the active parameters are and deconstruct them. Do your own experimentation.
    3. Read the extensive .pdf manual found in the Help menu bar item.

    I get the following error when I load a movie with slow connection:
    Cannot read property 'symbolData' of undefined
    I've managed to find the cause:
    Movie_edgeActions.js file is invoked with autonomous function as soon as it loads. Unfortunately, the Movie_edge.js file is usually much bigger than the edgeActions file (we're talking about dozens of kbs for the edge file compared to 3, maybe 5 kb for the edgeActions file). So on slow connection, the actions file is executed before the edge file is even loaded into the browser.
    Very easy to simulate:
    Open the movie with fiddler running as a proxy.
    Use fiddler "simulate modem speeds" and "Disable Caching" options (Rules->Performance).
    I think it's a serious bug. It's very likely to happen when surfing on 3G...
    Until it is fixed (I'd love to have a due date estimation), I'm planning on manually changing the autonomous function call, and call it myself when both files are loaded. I'll try to cope with it myself, but if anyone has already done it, or know how I should do it, I'd be happy to get some guidance.
    Addition: I've changed the anonymous function to a named function and I call it on AdobeEdge.bootstrapCallback (I did something similiar to this post).
    It works great with normal connection, but on slow connection the callback is never called. Moreover, I see the edge.js file being transfered on fiddler with http status 200, I also see it in chromes network monitor with status 200, but it doesn't get added to the scripts list on chrome developer tools. So I think the problem is actually in the preloader itself. I'll try working around it somehow...
    Last thing regarding performance - is there a plan to include in the publish an option to create the entire movie (preloader, actions and edge) as a single minified js file?
    We have an implementation that coordinate 5 different movies, which implies loading 15 different js files (or at least 10, because I can integrate the preloaders into my own js file). As you probably understood, on 3G it can mean lot of times until the entire application is loaded.

    EDIT:  I reverted the changes in the actions file (it works also with autonomous function).
    The AdobeEdge.yepnope.errorTimeout is declared inside AdobeEdge.requestResources function in the preloader, so I declared this function in my main html, so it won't be overriden by any of the generated preloaders
