  • Extract part of xml into CLOB or XMLType

    I need to extract part of XML into CLOB or some another type. But I don't need only extract data, by whole part od xml with elements. How could I do it in PL/SQL?
    For example from this xml:
    <bookstore>
    <book category="COOKING">
    <title lang="en">Everyday Italian</title>
    <author>Giada De Laurentiis</author>
    <year>2005</year>
    <price>30.00</price>
    </book>
    <book category="CHILDREN">
    <title lang="en">Harry Potter</title>
    <author>J K. Rowling</author>
    <year>2005</year>
    <price>29.99</price>
    </book>
    </bookstore>
    I need to get:
    "<book category="COOKING">
    <title lang="en">Everyday Italian</title>
    <author>Giada De Laurentiis</author>
    <year>2005</year>
    <price>30.00</price>
    </book>"
    THX

    That's why I need to process every book alone - to know which authors belongs to single book.For that specific requirement, a single query would do.
    Assuming variable "v_xml_clob" holds the XML document :
    <bookstore>
      <name>nameOfBookstore</name>
      <address>1st Avenue 24, SF</address>
          <book category="COOKING">
            <title lang="en">Everyday Italian</title>
            <author>
              <name>Giada De Laurentiis</name>
              <birth>1956</birth>

            <author>
              <name>xxx</name>
              <birth>1955</birth>
            </author>
            <year>2005</year>
            <price>30.00</price>
          </book>
          <book category="CHILDREN">
            <title lang="en">Harry Potter</title>

            <year>2005</year>
            <price>29.99</price>
          </book>
    </bookstore>You can do :
    SELECT *
    FROM XMLTable(
    'for $i in distinct-values($d//book/author/name)
      where count($d//book/author[name=$i]) = 1
      return $i'
    passing xmltype(v_xml_clob) as "d"
    columns author_name varchar2(80) path '.'
    AUTHOR_NAME
    Rowning

  • Help required in extract functionality for xml with namespaces

    Hi,
    We recently upgraded our database from 9i to 10G. After the upgrade few queries are not working as expected. Below query does not fetch any results in 10G but works perfectly fine in 9i. Could you please help me with a work around.

    Re: Adding report (query & workbook, templates) in roles
    Go through this thread.
    And in our Project we have created one role for accessing workbooks. in that end user can access the work book but saved one and user cannot resave or delete the work book.
    we have added Auth objects S_TCODE and S_GUI.
    in S_TCODE we have added RRMX and in S_GUI we have given 60(IMPORT) access to the users.
    So that they can just share the workbook. nothing else can be done.
    Try like this. Hope this would help you.

  • Can I parse non-wellformed XML with SAX at all?

    Hi all,
    i was wondering whether its possible at all to parse XML that is not well formed with SAX.
    e.g. A HTML file that doesnt close tags and stuff like that.
    I tried implementing the fatal() method of the Handler in a a way that it consumes the exception but does not rethrow it.
    Also I tried setting the validation property to false. Both with no success.
    Any help would be appriciated.
    thx
    philipp

    Your experiments tell you the answer.
    If you have HTML tag soup, why not just run it through JTidy or HTMLTidy to make it into well-formed XHTML?

  • Generate XML with SAX (OutputFormat/XMLSerializer deprecated)

    Hi,
    I'm working on a project using an old code, written by don't-know-who, which generates XML code from data obtained at the moment, at run-time, and then returns it as a String.
    Recently, my project included a new version (2.9) of the xercesImpl.jar library, and now classes OutputFormat and XMLSerializer have become deprecated.
    I'd like to update the old code. Do you know how to modify my code in order to do exactly the same things with a "new" approach which is not deprecated?
    I tried to search in the net and I found this FAQ <http://xerces.apache.org/xerces2-j/faq-general.html#faq-6>, but I didn't understand at all how to convert my code. :(
    Here's a "semplified" version of my method:
    public String generateDocument() {
        OutputFormat of = new OutputFormat("XML", "UTF-8", true);
        of.setIndent(1);
        of.setIndenting(true);
        StringWriter sw = new StringWriter();
        XMLSerializer xs = new XMLSerializer(sw, of);
        try {
            ContentHandler hd = xs.asContentHandler();
            hd.startDocument();
            AttributesImpl atts = new AttributesImpl();
            atts.addAttribute("", "", "id", "CDATA", "1");
            hd.startElement("", "", "addressBook", atts);
            atts.clear();
            hd.startElement("", "", "name", atts);
            String s = "John";
            hd.characters(s.toCharArray(), 0, s.length());
            hd.endElement("", "", "name");
            hd.startElement("", "", "surname", atts);
            s = "Smith";
            hd.characters(s.toCharArray(), 0, s.length());
            hd.endElement("", "", "surname");
            hd.endElement("", "", "addressBook");
            hd.endDocument();
        } catch (Exception e) {
            // TODO Auto-generated catch block
            e.printStackTrace();
        return sw.toString();
    }This code returns a String with this content:
    <addressBook id="1">
      <name>John</name>
      <surname>Smith</surname>
    </addressBook>Thanks a lot.

    This is easy. You have to somewhen learn the basics of the Java XML APIs, e.g. the DOM API. Or fight like a man through

  • Parse XML with SAX

    Hi all, I have the folow xml file:
    <n>
    <q>
    <r></r>
    <r></r>
    </q>
    </n>
    How can I make, that automaticli show me the elements of a tree?
    for Example:
    n includes r,r,q
    q includes r,r
    r includes r
    r includes r
    That I can show the Elements of all Trees?
    Thanks verry much.

    Read this tutorial:
    http://java.sun.com/webservices/docs/1.2/tutorial/doc/index.html
    It has some examples like that. If I knew what you wanted when you said "show" I could be more specific.

  • Problem parsing XML with schema when extracted from a jar file

    I am having a problem parsing XML with a schema, both of which are extracted from a jar file. I am using using ZipFile to get InputStream objects for the appropriate ZipEntry objects in the jar file. My XML is encrypted so I decrypt it to a temporary file. I am then attempting to parse the temporary file with the schema using DocumentBuilder.parse.
    I get the following exception:
    org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: cvc-elt.1: Cannot find the declaration of element '<root element name>'
    This was all working OK before I jarred everything (i.e. when I was using standalone files, rather than InputStreams retrieved from a jar).
    I have output the retrieved XML to a file and compared it with my original source and they are identical.
    I am baffled because the nature of the exception suggests that the schema has been read and parsed correctly but the XML file is not parsing against the schema.
    Any suggestions?
    The code is as follows:
      public void open(File input) throws IOException, CSLXMLException {
        InputStream schema = ZipFileHandler.getResourceAsStream("<jar file name>", "<schema resource name>");
        DocumentBuilderFactory factory = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
        DocumentBuilder builder = null;
        try {
          factory.setNamespaceAware(true);
          factory.setValidating(true);
          factory.setAttribute(JAXP_SCHEMA_LANGUAGE, W3C_XML_SCHEMA);
          factory.setAttribute(JAXP_SCHEMA_SOURCE, schema);
          builder = factory.newDocumentBuilder();
          builder.setErrorHandler(new CSLXMLParseHandler());
        } catch (Exception builderException) {
          throw new CSLXMLException("Error setting up SAX: " + builderException.toString());
        Document document = null;
        try {
          document = builder.parse(input);
        } catch (SAXException parseException) {
          throw new CSLXMLException(parseException.toString());
        }

    I was originally using getSystemResource, which worked fine until I jarred the application. The problem appears to be that resources returned from a jar file cannot be used in the same way as resources returned directly from the file system. You have to use the ZipFile class (or its JarFile subclass) to locate the ZipEntry in the jar file and then use ZipFile.getInputStream(ZipEntry) to convert this to an InputStream. I have seen example code where an InputStream is used for the JAXP_SCHEMA_SOURCE attribute but, for some reason, this did not work with the InputStream returned by ZipFile.getInputStream. Like you, I have also seen examples that use a URL but they appear to be URL's that point to a file not URL's that point to an entry in a jar file.
    Maybe there is another way around this but writing to a file works and I set use File.deleteOnExit() to ensure things are tidied afterwards.

  • Edit an XML file with SAX

    Dear all, I am so confused.
    I have been trying for the last few days to understand how sax works The only thing I understood is:
    DefaultHandler handler = new Echo01();
    SAXParserFactory factory = SAXParserFactory.newInstance();
            try {
                out = new OutputStreamWriter(System.out, "UTF8");
                SAXParser saxParser = factory.newSAXParser();
                saxParser.parse(file , handler);
            } catch (Throwable t) {
                t.printStackTrace();
            System.exit(0);
        }Ok, I assign the SAXParser the xml file and a handler. The parser parses and throws events that the handler catches. By implementing some handler interface or overriding the methods of an existing handler (e.g DeafultHandler class) I get to do stuff
    But still, suppose I have implement startElement() method of DefaultHandler class and I know that the pointer is currently placed on an element e.g. <name>bob</name>. How do I get the value of the element, and if I manage to do that, how can I replacebob with tom?
    I would really appreciate any help given just dont recommend http://java.sun.com/webservices/jaxp/dist/1.1/docs/tutorial/ because although there are interesting staff in there, it does not solve my problem

    Maybe SAX is not the right tool for you.
    With SAX, you implement methods like startElement and characters that get called as XML data is encountered by the parser. If you want to catch it or not, the SAX parser does not care. In your case, the "bob" part will be passed in one or more calls to characters. To safely process the data, you need to do something like build a StringBuffer or StringBuilder in the constructor of the class, and then in the startElement, if the name is one you want to read, set the length to zero. In the characters method, append the data to the StringBuilder or StringBuffer. In the endElement, do a toString to keep the data wherever you want.
    This works for simple XML, but may need to be enhanced if you have nested elements with string values that contain other elements.
    On the other hand, if your file is not huge, you could use DOM. With DOM, (or with JDOM, and I would expect with Dom4J -- but I have only used the first two) you do a parse and get a Document object with the entire tree. That allows you to easily (at least it is easy once you figure out how to do it) find a node like the "name" element and change the Text object that is its child from a value of "bob" to "tom". With DOM, you can then serialize the modified Document tree and save it as an XML file. SAX does not have any way to save your data. That burden falls to you entirely.

    // attach the XSLT processor to the           parser.parse();
              return new String(bout.toByteArray());

    put Xalan in your war file then try using this kind of commands:     System.setProperty("org.xml.sax.parser", "org.apache.xerces.parsers.SAXParser");
    System.setProperty("javax.xml.parsers.SAXParserFactory", "org.apache.xerces.jaxp.SAXParserFactoryImpl");
    System.setProperty("javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory", "org.apache.xerces.jaxp.DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl");
    System.setProperty("javax.xml.transform.TransformerFactory", "org.apache.xalan.processor.TransformerFactoryImpl");This tells JAXP what implementations it should use without even asking your administrator to modify the WebLogic setup...
    It's what I've done with the WLS7.0 server I am using ;-)

  • Oracle SQL - Extracting clob value from XML with repeating nodes

    Hi All,
    I am attempting to run SQL on a table (called test_xml with a column xml_data [data type xmltype]). The column contains xml with repeating nodes (description). The following statement runs successfully when the node contains data of a non clob size:
    SELECT
    extractvalue (Value (wl), '*/description')
    FROM test_xml
    , TABLE (xmlsequence (extract (xml_data, '*/record'))) wl
    but fails when description node contains a lot of data:
    ORA-01706: user function result value was too large
    I amended my query:
    SELECT
    extractvalue(Value (wl), '*/description').getClobVal()
    FROM test_xml
    , TABLE (xmlsequence (extract (xml_data, '*/record'))) wl
    but this fails with:
    ORA-22806: not an object or REF
    Thanks in Advance

    Hi Greg,
    11.2.0.2.0 (Although I will need to do this on my work instance also which is 10.2.0.4)That's gonna be a problem...
    Direct CLOB projection is supported starting with 11.2.0.2, using XMLTable or XMLCast/XQuery functions (extractvalue, extract, xmlsequence are deprecated now) :
    SELECT x.*
    FROM test_xml t
       , XMLTable(
           '/*/record'
           passing t.xml_data
           columns
             description  clob path 'description'
         ) x
    ;On prior versions, implicit conversions will occur to VARCHAR2 datatype, hence the limitation observed.
    AFAIK you have two options on 10.2.0.4 :
    1) Using Object-Relational storage, with the xdb:SQLType="CLOB" annotation.
    2) Using the following trick :
    SELECT dbms_xmlgen.convert(x.description.getClobVal(), 1) as description
    FROM test_xml t
       , XMLTable(
           '/*/record'
           passing t.xml_data
           columns
             description  xmltype path 'description/text()'
         ) x
    ;

  • Extract part of image & save with transparent background

    What is the best way to extract part of an image & save it with a transparent background?  I had hoped to the extracted images in 2 different ways.
    Firstly just to paste into another image.
    Secondly I'd like to try to open both the extracted item as well as the whole original photo in different video editing programs including Premiere Elements & sony Vegas.  What is the best  way to do this?

    Here's what you could do.
    First make sure you have both images open in editor
    1. Open the image and select the area using the magnetic lasso/quick selection tool.
    2.  Select Layer -> New -> Layer Via Copy
    3. Now in the layers palette, right click the layer and select 'Dulicate Layer'
    4. In the duplicate layer dialog, in document - select the other image, where you would like to paste the image to.
    5. You and ajust the poition of the pasted area/resize it using the move tool or transform tool (Ctrl + T).
    6. Save the image with a new name
    If you simply want to save the image with transparency (after step #2) - you may -
    > hide the previous layer and Save the image as a png/gif so transparency is presereved.
    Hope that helps.
    When you have teh saved documents you can open them up in different editors.

  • BLS, extract parts of an XML

    Hi.
    I may have asked before, but can not find the answer anywhere. I have an XML which I want to extract parts of. It this possible an how?
    I want to get the part
    /ns1:GetProductionSchedule
    /ns2:GetProductionSchedule
    /ns2:DataArea

    and everything below it....
    The XML is as follows.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <GetProductionSchedule xmlns="http://Wonderware.WWEI.Services">

              </DataArea>
         </GetProductionSchedule>
    </GetProductionSchedule>

    Poul,
    Ignore my previous message.  Still mentally working in 11.5.
    I assume you are using a tracer to display the extracted xml?  I built a little test transaction and you were right.  There does not appear to be any extracted xml in the Tracer.Message property.  So I did used an XML Saver to save it using the path: "db://ProjectA/WEB/test.xml".  Lo and behold the xml was extracted just as Michael and I had expected.  So the problem appears to be in the Tracer rather than in the method.  This is apparently a problem similar to trying to use a Tracer to display the xml output of a repeater.  Which should be fixed in 12.1.
    Let me know what you find out.  I am working in 12.0.5.
    Good luck,
    Mike

  • Problem in parsing an XML using SAX parser

    Hai All,
    I have got a problem in parsing an XML using SAX parser.
    I have an XML (sample below) which need to be parsed
    <line-items>
    <item num="1">
         <part-number>PN1234</part-number>
         <quantity uom="ea">10</quantity>
         <lpn>LPN1060</lpn>
         <reference num="1">Line ref 1</reference>
         <reference num="2">Line ref 2</reference>
         <reference num="3">Line ref 3</reference>
    </item>
    <item num="2">
         <part-number>PN1527</part-number>
         <quantity uom="lbs">5</quantity>
         <lpn>LPN2152</lpn>
         <reference num="1">Line ref 1</reference>
         <reference num="2">Line ref 2</reference>
         <reference num="3">Line ref 3</reference>
    </item>
    <item num="n">
    </item>
    </line-items>
    There can be any number of items( 1 to n). I need to parse these
    item values using SAX parser and invoke a stored procedure for
    each item with its
    values(partnumber,qty,lpn,refnum1,refnum2,refnum3).
    Suppose if there are 100 items, i need to invoke the stored
    procedure sp1() 100 times for each item.
    I need to invoke the stored procedure in endDocument() method of
    SAX event handler and not in endelement() method.
    What is the best way to store those values and invoke the stored
    procedure in enddocument() method.
    Any help would br greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance
    Pooja.

    VO or ValueObject is a trendy new name for Beans.
    So just create an item class with variables for each of the sub elements.
    <item>
    <part-number>PN1234</part-number>
    <quantity uom="ea">10</quantity>
    <lpn>LPN1060</lpn>
    <reference num="1">Line ref 1</reference>
    <reference num="2">Line ref 2</reference>
    <reference num="3">Line ref 3</reference>
    </item>
    public class ItemVO
    String partNumber;
    int quantity;
    String quantityType;
    String lpn;
    List references = new ArrayList();
    * @return Returns the lpn.
    public String getLpn()
    return this.lpn;
    * @param lpn The lpn to set.
    public void setLpn(String lpn)
    this.lpn = lpn;
    * @return Returns the partNumber.
    public String getPartNumber()
    return this.partNumber;
    * @param partNumber The partNumber to set.
    public void setPartNumber(String partNumber)
    this.partNumber = partNumber;
    * @return Returns the quantity.
    public int getQuantity()
    return this.quantity;
    * @param quantity The quantity to set.
    public void setQuantity(int quantity)
    this.quantity = quantity;
    * @return Returns the quantityType.
    public String getQuantityType()
    return this.quantityType;
    * @param quantityType The quantityType to set.
    public void setQuantityType(String quantityType)
    this.quantityType = quantityType;
    * @return Returns the references.
    public List getReferences()
    return this.references;
    * @param references The references to set.
    public void setReferences(List references)
    this.references = references;
