Subject: Float-over help on inactive widgets ??? -Reply
If I remember my help file correctly, FieldWidgets with a state of
FS_INACTIVE do not respond to any events (ie. AfterFocusGain,
MouseEnter, etc). So, it's my guess that that is what is killing the
help
items. They may very well depend on 'MouseEnter' type events. Try
FS_VIEWONLY. The users will be able to click on & even highlight text,
but they can't change anything. (and the float over help should still
work).
I'm not sure about the status bar text. I haven't used it much.

Hi!
I set the State attribute of a DataField to FS_INACTIVE.
Why can't I see the float-over and status line help for
this DataField?
I think this is the same for any other FieldWidget.
But why???
Thanks in advance for any response...

Since you are publishing your results on the net , it will be a better idea to use JSP?Servlet/Beans architecture instead of swing
I will propose a architecture as follows:
Client : Standard Browsers, IE and NS
Middle Tier: Java Webserver/Application Server
This will depend on your budget. If u have a fat allowance go for weblogic/websphere . If u are operationg on shoe string budget try for apache , etc
In the server tier code your application in the follwing architecture
JSP for presentation: Distillation towers picture, input boxes .. etc
Servlets for business logic invocation and routing requests: Your JSP submits input values to servlets, which does the processing using Java Bean Components. Since you have a lot of Logic written in C I would suggest to encapsulate these in JavaBean components using JNI technology and reuse the code.
After processing the servlet again forwards the response to another JSP for output
Advantages:
1.Your clients can be thin as most of the processing is done at the server
2. Thread Management is taken care of by your webserver, which otherwise would be a headache
3. Writing this through low level socket programming will be much more difficult as you will write your own protocol for communication this will be error prone and not scalable
If you still decide to go for traditional client server programming using swing, use RMI for communication as I insist that socket programming is very very cumbersome...using your own protocols
hope this helps

  • Is it possible for widgets in dashboard to float over other windows?

    I'm trying to assess features in Mavericks in comparison to Snow Leopard (the OS I'm most familiar with).  I usually read the Missing Manual for the new OSes, but haven't gotten to all areas yet - it's a big book!
    Is it possible for widgets in dashboard to float over other windows?
    I want to be able to see the calculator widget for example while I'm also working in a Bills template document in Word, or over my back account page while viewing in Safari.  Or look at words in Thesaurus while viewing a document I'm writing in Word, or even an email in Mail.  In OS 10.6 widgets on the dashboard float above the other windows, but I can see them both at the same time.  It looks like Dashboard is all by itself in Mavericks.  Is this the case and the only way to view widgets now, is by themselves in their own isolated environment?  Any work around?
    Thanks.

    You can assign a "hot corner" with System preferences > Mission Control > Hot corners to bring up your dashboard anytime you want quickly by moving the mouse to the corner.  Works really well.

  • Seriously Need Help With Lightbox Widget In Dreamweaver

    Hi guys, I seriously need your help with this widget.
    I'm not exactly new to Dreamweaver and I've been working on a particular website. Everything was going well until I dropped the Lightbox widget into the page.
    Lightbox gallery displays, but opens images in a new window on its own. Here's an example;
    http://imagesbylady.co.nz/photomike/HTML/promogallery.html
    Yet, when I drop the widget into a completely separate page from the website, it works absolutely fine. Like here;
    http://imagesbylady.co.nz/photomike/HTML/testing.html
    I have exhausted this entire forum on the subject. I don't understand how the widget can work on a blank html page but when dropped into an already designed webpage, it breaks....!
    If you need to have a look at the coding so you can help me further let me know. I've been on this for a total of 11 hours and I still can't figure out what the problem is. Seriously....i'm nearly close to tears! ;-(
    If you could help me out I would be forever grateful.

  • How do I keep product attributes from floating over product description on ecommerce site?

    When MistyAcresAlpaca.com went live, the site was working perfectly.  Over the past week, I've seen changes to the site's menus , footers and products pages that were not initiated by myself.  It appears to be a software, JS or JQuery issue.
    To clarify, catalogs have been rearranged on menu, product attributes float over product descriptions and foot information has been rearranged.
    Customers who try to order products using IE as a browser are unable to do so.  Using Chrome or Firefox, customers are able to order products but attributes (size, color) are still floating over the product. Most of the sites customers use IE as a browser.
    Please advise on how this can be resolved and the website stablized.

    Think you may have a missing end </div> for your <div id="nav">, as it appears to be currently encapsulating the entire page including the footer.
    As a result styling for the menu #nav ul li is being adopted further down on the product details.

  • Need help with Checkbox widget!!!

    Hi,
    I have made a quiz in which, on one part of the slide the user has to tick the boxes to see the symptoms he or she is feeling. (using default static checkbox widget) That needs to be reported, so we know the user symptoms during the time of the quiz. The problem is that when the user checks/ticks any information through the widget and press submit button, no report is generated or exported only values appear for instances '0' or '1' or any value i give to variable. (through google email reporting widget) Is it possible to achieve this somehow as this is the only objective of the quiz.
    I will be grateful, if anyone can kindly help and share some wisdom/solution.
    I have attached the screenshot where the user checks his/her symptoms.
    And i have also attached the spreadsheet, where values are just reported as 0, irrespective if the user ticks it or not. (not responding)
    I have also created variables for each symptoms through the widget and aswell as the project/variables.
    Can anyone guide me on how to report the selected ticks marks to appear on the spreadsheet or the same information to be exported ?
    Thanks

    Thank you for your prompt reply. I am using Captivate 8 widget through learning interaction.
    Do you mean to say that these are the values to the variables? (for example; value for variable: v_one would be 'Overly happy' )?
    What i am trying to achieve here is to capture the interaction data from this particular slide and export it into a spreadsheet for reporting, to see what user has selected so the report can be given to the client.

  • Help With Inactive Buttons....

    Hi Guys,
    Im facing a problem in DVD SP 4 where Im getting a "Button is inactive" during the Build Process.
    My button is targeted, connected to a menu or a video (I have the problem in two buttons out of around 40 buttons)
    When I check the Connections viewer it confirms that my buttons are all good and connected.
    Ive tried deleting and create a new button and it didnt work.
    Ive tried duplicating an existing working button and change the target and still didnt work.
    I have a deadline and its all choas here, I would appreciate a fast reply if anyone knows that problem !
    Thank you in advance,
    -Husam

    As Chris said, double check the connection tabs and make sure there are no stray buttons. If you have been duplicating buttons also make sure that there are no overlapping buttons, they can cause issues.
    Are all the buttons on one menu or are you speaking about more than one menu? Also, did you name the buttons? Could help narrow it down. Select each button in the menu that you see (in the viewer) and name them so you know you "marked" them, such as 20100330_B1 etc. When you are sure you marked them all, check the connections to see if there is one that is not generally named that way, could be behind another button. (The inactive button name should also be shown in the log when building.)

              Welcome,
              Hunt Films was set up in January 2011 by documentary maker Barry Hunt.
              Barry received training in TV and Video Production with FÁS in Tralee, Co Kerry. During this training Barry produced a series of short films about local artists. In 2006 he worked as assistant editor on the successful RTÉ drama series, ‘Love is the Drug’.
              Since 2010 Barry has embarked on solo projects producing two entertaining half hour documentaries. 'Liberation', explores the world of pigeon racing in Dublin. This film was very well received at the Galway Film Festival 2011 and is due for broadcast on Setanta Sports. More recently Barry produced 'The Gregory Seat', a documentary which follows Maureen O'Sullivan’s campaign to be elected in the 2011 General Election.
              Barry looks forward to producing more documentaries. He is interested in human stories and hopes that this will form the basis of his future work. At present, Barry is developing projects for film festivals and general broadcast

  • Java Help For Apple Widget Program

    I'm working on a Apple Widget and I have a question for the JS part of it.
    I want multiple elements to fade out when the widget loads up, I can get one element to fade out, but how do I get multiple elements to fade out on the same onLoad event.
    Here is the code to get one item to fade out.
    function elementHide(event)
    // Values you provide
    var itemToFadeOut = document.getElementById("img"); // replace with name of element to fade
    // Fading code
    var fadeHandler = function(a, c, s, f){ itemToFadeOut.style.opacity = c; };
    new AppleAnimator(5, 13, 1.0, 0.0, fadeHandler).start();
    } Thanks for any help given.

    Avi,
    Dude, this is java forum, and Java is NOT javascript... so try a [javascript forum|http://www.google.com/search?q=javascript+forum&hl=en&sourceid=gd&rls=GGLD,GGLD:2008-06,GGLD:en&aq=t].
    You just might get an answer here, but the majority of regulars refuse to address javascript questions here, as a matter of principle... even though the same people are happy to answer the same questions on the javascript forums. Go figure.
    Cheers. Keith.

  • Please someone help!  Lightbox widget not working...

    I was trying to get the Lightbox widget to work on my webpage. I could not get the images to upload in the expandable box like they should. Instead of expanding out like the animated way they should, my Lighbox links kept opening in a new page and causing me to click the back button to see another image in the lightbox. I thought by deleting the lightbox widget and getting a fresh one might help but it seems to made things a lot worse. I was warned by a message that said "by deleting these settings you will not be able to get them back" and I deleted anyway thinking it was fixable. Now I can't fix it. There has to be a way for me to get the lightbox settings back into dreamweaver! Help Please!!!!!

    i had the same problem, and then i noticed when in design view view, the web page that contained the lightbox on it was trying to use 5 or 6 other files, like lightbox.js and some other files. i noticed when i clicked on the little files at the top on same bar as Source Code, it gave me an error saying the file is not on my local drive and gave me the option to "get", but when i clicked on "get" nothing happened. I'm assuming you might need those extra files for lightbox to work right?
    I don't know currently, and so i tried to "sign" into my widget browser, and i keep getting a timeout error. There's nothing wrong with my internet, so I don't know whats wrong with it.

  • Help with systemd problems/reply to closed thread

    @Everyone; as the previopus topic was closed, I am opening a new one here, partly to reply to some things that was said to me in the previous thread/topic (and I do not like to leave people hanging), but mainly to try and get some help with my systemd config (that I was not able to find help with in the wiki or manpages).
    @czubek; eww, that sounds rather similiar to some other operating systems I've heard of (not just, but obviously including, windows)... For me, subjectively, that is not very attractive, as being able to have a single application do a single thing, and then mixing and matching as I personally see fit is a great thing.
    @tomegun: I can indeed see your point, but if I made direct quotes on all the things I reply too, my posts would reach biblical proportions.
    Mmm-hmm, I do indeed know of "the Arch Way"; however, the system that you expose can be of varying complexity as well, and I found that the system that was presented to me by way of Sysvinit/initscripts was a way simpler system than that presented to me by systemd.
    Indeed, and I do like that; I enjoy knowing how my system works and learning more about it; however, the truth is that reading manpages and the wiki isn't always enough. And I use the numbers instead of letters in certain places as a jest, please, do not get offended by that; if you have to, get offended by my opinions.
    Ah, I have now scanned the wiki, the manpages, and have already faced problems. While part of me is saddened by this fact (as I was hoping for a smooth transition to systemd), part of me is glad that I can at least prove that everything isn't quite as simple as some people would make it out to be. More on this later in this post, as I do need help with the problems I have faced.
    And I wouldn't say that the new and old way are equally trivial, as I immediatley faced problems with "the new way". More on this later.
    Ok, I find that if the debate is polarized, then there is nothing wrong with describing it as such. I spell what I see.
    Oh my... Ignored as a matter of principle? I would say that that is an excellent way to stagnate; by that logic, moviemakers, gamemakers etcetera should ignore any and all criticism they recieve, as the critics are not contributing.... Wouldn't that lead to a complete halt in development? Isn't criticism (so long as it is constructive, obviously) a key component of (media/software) evolution?
    Ah, I see, then I  misunderstood the current state of the install media
    "Some adjustements"... Well, I guess we'll have to see how that goes, then. Hopefully it'll be smooth.
    @Everyone; Awebb possesses stunning accuracy as far as his observations go.
    @zb3; My point exactly.
    @tomegun; I believe you to be wrong; complaining (but not whining) is the first step towards improvement, as I think that I and zb3 has shown.
    Further, your last point (where you talk about "deep understanding of Y" and whatnot) is basically saying that only devs and programmers can contribute, so zb3's observation would be correct.
    Also, making suggestions is part of constructive criticism; you can do that even if you can't code, e.g. by saying "X works badly because it makes Y crash; couldn't we replace X with something akin to Z?". This is a valid point even if you have no intricate understanding of X, Y or Z, and if it is impossible to replace X for one reason or the other, it's not hard to reply with "Replacing X is impossible because of reason Q", and then see if someone can solve reason Q etcetera.
    zb3's example is obviously helping; for one, it would allow people to know taht they can't boot with systemd in certain cases, or that installing/runing systemd can break their system. I would consider that rather important information.
    @Everyone; Now then, to see if I can (or rather, if I can get help to) shed some light on some problems I've been having.
    My transition to systemd went pretty smooth (besides the fact that I couldn't use 'systemctl' to set anything, and neither duckduckgo nor any posts in the forums could help me (the error I continously got was "Failed to issue method call: Launch helper exited with unknown return code 1") and that there are no manpages/tips on how to configure the files for "localtime" and "adjtime", which would've been good considering some syntax have changed) to about halfway through, to the point where I was supposed to start using systemd for my daemons.
    Now then, to the main problem; first, I tried running
    "systemctl enable syslog-ng.service"
    and got the following message;
    "ln -s '/usr/lib/systemd/system/syslog-ng.service' '/etc/systemd/system/syslog.service'
    ln -s '/usr/lib/systemd/system/syslog-ng.service' '/etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/syslog-ng.service'"
    Since it doesn't exclusively say that something went wrong (at least as far as I can understand), I pondered the message a bit, but moved on to try and start dbus by issuing
    "systemctl enable dbus.service",
    to which I got the reply
    "The unit files have no [Install] section. They are not meant to be enabled using systemctl."
    This I can only assume is an error message of some sort, especially seeing as it says "not meant to be enabled using systemctl", but the wiki rather explicitly states that that is what I am supposed to do.
    I dare not move on (or attempt to start other daemons) without further advice, as I fear I might break my system. Any ideas as to how to solve this would be greatly appreciated.

    tcmdvm wrote:
    The message;

    ln -s '/usr/lib/systemd/system/syslog-ng.service' '/etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/syslog-ng.service'"
    indicates that running "systemctl enable syslog.service" is now enabled.
    If you try running sytemtctl enable <whatever>.service and get
    "The unit files have no [Install] section. They are not meant to be enabled using systemctl." means there is no <whatever>.service file available to enable.
    The dbus.service as far as I know is already enabled when installing systemd and doesn't require any action.
    Ah, right, systemd is chatty (I'm of the old skool; if nothing is/goes wrong, a program should keep quiet).
    Oh ok, then I should dare more on.
    ZekeSulastin wrote:To be a bit more precise, it means the service is there but it's only used as a dependency for something else; the [Install] section of the file is what tells systemctl where to link it and such.  Also, where exactly in the wiki were you told explicitly to 'systemctl enable dbus.service'?  I can easily point you to the sections in both installation guides that tell you how to set things like /etc/localtime et. al (also `man 7 archlinux`), but not the one that said to manually enable dbus.
    Ah, I see; and well, I was told right here, going from the top, to "Enable Daemons formerly listed in rc.conf [...] For a translation of the daemons from /etc/rc.conf to systemd services, see: List of Daemons and Services.", and, using the list, dbus is mentioned there, as you can see. Since I started from the top, I did not know that you didn't need to enable that service. Perhaps it could be added to the descriptions of the relevant services in the Wiki which ones are autostarted?
    ZekeSulastin wrote:Lastly, I don't think trying to continue conversations from a closed thread is a very good idea, let alone doing it in a giant undivided wall of text that makes it quite difficult to pick out much any single topic.
    Meh, I directly refer to the relevant people, they can easily see their own old posts in the previous thread, etcetera... I think te ones who have something to say will be able to find my replies to their previous statements (or so I hope). For now, as everyone can see, I quote stuff (but man might I make some huge posts if I ever post again in the future, if I quote what I reply to).
    fsckd wrote:This is not really a technical support subforum. Moving from Arch Discussion to Newbie Corner.
    Ah ok, thanks (or perhaps a cautious thanks? Moving it to "newbie corner" might, after all, be a subtle insult...).
    tomegun wrote:It is not really possible to follow your message as you don't quote what you are replying to. Moreover, as the thread was closed I think that means we should stop the discussion ;-)
    Hmm, I think it means cop-out for lack or proper arguments/responses... But ok, I'll let it slide, for now (mainly as I can't do much else).
    tomegun wrote:You are not meant to enable dbus.service as it is enabled unconditionally. To check the enabled/disabled state of your services try "systemctl list-unit-files". "static" means that you are not supposed to enabled/disable it.
    Ah ok, thank you. Now, having abandoned all hope, I'll start configuring again and see how it goes... May the void protect me. If I die, grieve not for me, but remember me in the fight against hard-to-configure applications.
    (edit/addon)
    Actually, what am I supposed to do with "hwclock"? the List of Daemons only says that I shouldn't run that in tandem with ntpd, but I'm not running ntpd, so... How do I get hwclock with systemd?
    Edited for additional question.
