Re: how to sort an array of type string

thanks bina and turing pest. well i can't use collections.sort or arrays.sort i need to create a method to sort. stupid instructor dont want to take advantage of this good java language. anyways i am able to do the sort but now OMG the whole data is crappy. formatting is gone everything is fukedd up. excuse my language.

    You could use the TS_PropertyGetType() function in CVI to do this. Here is a reference page for the GetType function--you can see that it returns a PropertyValueType which will indicate which type the PropertyObject (variable) is. In CVI, you'll find this function in the NI TestStand API 2013 instrument methods, under PropertyObject > Static Properties.

    Please let me know how to overcome this issue.

    It is not possible to perform a joining query across a variable class 1:1 mapping. If you need this sort of querying I would recommend using a shared table between your interface implementers and inheritance. Then you can have a relationship to the root class and query on the shared attributes.

    I got a little problem regarding sorting a StringBuffer Array. As you all know arithmetic operation can't be perform on StringBuffer. So do I have any other alternative on sorting it? I try ".toString()" function but can't use also.

    Your talking about sorting the characters in a StringBuffer object, and not sorting an array of StringBuffers right? Well, isnt a StringBuffer basically a character array? If you use the getChars function, you can copy the StringBuffer into a character array, and from there use a bubble or quicksort to sort the characters...?

    The documentation is not really detailed about setting attributes with type Strings. I assume I've to type each string value in a new line in the set attributes dialog box. This works fine and my XML looks like this<br /><br /><para CMS = "prodA prodB"><br /><br />having set the two string values "prodA" and "prodB".<br /><br />But how to filter these attributes? The filter CMS="prodA" shows my paragraph correctly, but CMS="prodB" does not show this paragraph as it should.     this is something that AFAIK is not supported by FrameMaker's own attribute based filtering.
    But, without changing your documents, if you install the *free* ABCM (Attribute-based condition management) plug-in from weststreet consulting, you will succeed. Be sure to read the tutorial!

  • How to sort a column of type CHAR

    Hi,
    I have a report for which the o/p is displayed in ALV grid format.There is one column in the O/p strcuture which is "No of days".Based on certain conditions,i need to display the value for some of the days as Negative e.g. " - 45".Becasuse of this,I have declared the field for the "No of days" of the type "CHAR".
    Now when i sort(using ALV grid SORT function) the list on basis of this column,it doesnt give me the correct o/p.
    CAN anyone tell me how do i handle this?I want the list to be sorted correctly on basis of the "No of days" column.

    Hmmmm not sure if you meant
    int[] selected
    rather than
    String[] selected
    You can't sort int[] in descending order using the standard API, you could though do a normal sort of the array and then iterate through it swapping element indexes, the first one in ascending sort will become the last one and the 2nd becomes the 2nd last one and so on....
    for (int i=0;i<selected.length / 2;i++) {
    int temp = selected;
    selected[i] = selected[selected.length - i - 1];
    selected[selected.length - i - 1] = temp;

  • How to filter an array with a string value

    I want to filter out all Strings in an array that don't have a certain value in them aka. I want only to see values that start with b or bi or bit etc...
    How can I accomplish this?

    This is another one of those things where I'm surprised it's not in the JDK. It's needed sufficiently frequently, and other languages (esp. scripting languages) seem to support this thing commonly.
    Anyway...when I need something like this (that seems as though many others need it as well and it ought to be in the JDK but isn't), the first thing I do is check Apache Jakarta Commons to see if someone has already written such a thing in a reasonably well-supported toolkit. It's worth a look.

  • Sort algorithm: how can I sort two arrays according to one

    I have two parallel arrays, similar to this:

    I want to sort the first array, and have the second array follow the same sort as the first. Any advice for a good algorithm would be appreciated.

    I tried your  (2nd) script twice and on both occurrences it crashed my ESTK
    From what I  understand (not said with much confidence) the flaw in your logic is you are passing your arrays values to be sorted array1[?] and array2[?+1] to the sort function as 'a' and 'b' but and then refer to the array array1[a].
    So let's examine a bit of the code
    var array1 = [4, 3, 1, 5, 2];
    array3.sort (function(a,b) {
    var swap, diff = array1[a] - array1[b];
    When run this is the equivalent of saying (for the first run of the sort loop)
    diff = array1[4] - array1[3]
    i.e.     diff = 2 - 5
    i.e.     diff = -3
    What you wanted to do was
    diff = a - b
            = 4 -3
    That's the way I see it.

    The arrays a1, a2, a3, ..... will get sorted according to the numeric or alphabetical order of the array specified in the 2nd parameter.
    One could easily (I think) change the sort function to first sort by array x and then by array y etc.

    Let's forget about generics. Say you want to supply a Comparator. The compare method should decide the order between elements when passed two element objects. In a two-dimensional array the elements will be one-dimentional arrays and you use the first element in those arrays, like
    public int compare(Object s1, Object s2) {
       String[] a1 = (String[]) s1;  // first row array
       String[] a2 = (String[]) s2;  // second row array
       return a1[0].compareTo(a2[0]); // compare first element of row arrays

    Hi, i'm looking for a way to sort an array or numbers with loops.
    my array looks like this. int[] numbers = {5,2,7,9,1}
    i know how to use the "sort" method and i want to do it without the sort method, but i am not very clear on the logic behind it.
    by the end it should look like this, {1,2,5,7,9}
    i know 2 loops are used, can you please give me a logic to work with.
    i have started the loops but what to do inside???

    All the algorithms I suggested you look at use loops. the simplest and slowest is the bubble sort. This one runs by comparing values and swapping their locations, the wikipedia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bubble_sort has the algorithm.
