I ran the same road when we were evaluation R3. As far as I know, Forte
changed Express singificantly between Express 20C0 to 20D0 and again to
20E0. Express compatibility levels raised from CL5 to CL7.
So, if you just copied the repository you should have at least the new
versions of express installed in userapp and included the new express
objects into your repository. Then integrate and update the workspaces
in question. This way is very time consuming and probably not supported
by Forte. Otherwise I would assume unpredictable results.
What we did is the following: We exported the entire repository and
started from an new exseed. This should work for you as well.

I've used a 11Gr2 client to connect to 9i , 10g & 11g datbases. I believe the 11GR2 client is the only one ok'd for Win7 too - check.
I've also known the 9i client to connect to 9i, 10g & 11G dababases - BUT - when a users password expires in 11G, (where mixed case passwords are enabled but not used till now), the 9i and 10g client cannot change it - even to one without any uppercase in it.
Take note that if you are using both 32bit & 64bit ODBC DSN's on a 64bit Windows server , there are separate ODBC Management tools to create the DSN's for 32bit & 64bit. But I digress..
You should always test any compiled client applications - if you have encoded password management within, to an 11G sandpit DB before upgrading the prod instance. We found a requirement to recompile a client executable that did password management, with 11GR2 client libs. By password management, I mean the application had been build with the functionality encoded, to offer a way for the user to change their Oracle password.
I still urge you to upgrade your DB to 11GR2 soon, as 10gr2 is now getting on in years. Risk reduction?
You can always set the DB (or session) parameter "optimizer_features_enabled" to 10.2.0 (or even back to 9.2.0) if some 'tuned' SQL runs slower, or until you have a chance to rewrite the code. [Or let the optimiser automatically capture & evaluate it overnight to find a better plan by itself - the DB is much better/smarter these days]. Oracle also offers 'workload capture and replay' methods to pre-prove all code will perform at same or better levels (and use an existing transfered execution plan for a statement if it cannot) before the move to 11G.

Dear Andy,
I'm just guessing but perhaps your editor inadvertently converted the executable shell script to a DOS file (when you added the echo commands). Try to run the installer script through the dos2unix(1) command:
dos2unix installer installer.tmp
chmod +x installer.tmp
./installer.tmp
As I said, it is just a guess.

The Early Access forum has quiter a bit of info re install problems, search it. ( I think you'll have to register first, though - it's free)

Problem installing Forte Developer 6 for C

I am experiencing some installing our new Forte Developer 6 for C on a SunOS 5.6. When I type ./installer I get this prompt:
Installing Solaris Product Registry's /usr/lib/libwsreg.so library
[SUNWwsr2 package] which is required by the installer.
Okay to install /usr/lib/libwsreg.so [SUNWwsr2]? <y|n>:
After pressing "y" nothing happens. According the the instructions an Install Forte Developer 6 menu should come up but it never does.
We have tried to install the SUNWwsr2 package manually but that wasn't successful either.
The problem might be our OS configuration, which we have customized a bit. (I notice that system requirements for Sun Workshop 6 is either a Developer or Full Cluster Distribution OS configuration.)
I would appreciate any suggestions anyone might have.

I am looking for a new license for Forte 6.0 and Forte 6.2 - but have not had much luck working with the Oracle/Sun team. Noone seems to want to upgrade to Studio 12 for this code because it is so old, but sometimes needs to be recompiled. I believe that the engineers are using the C or C++ compilers. I noticed that earlier versions have a free license, but not either of these two. If these are no longer supported, will these licenses become free soon? I have the licenses on a Solaris 2.5.6 system and I would like the licenses to run on a Solaris 8 server, so that I can retire the Solaris 2.5.6 system. Is there any chance that I can get a new license? Any chance that these licenses will become free and not dependent on the system? Any recommendations?

Installing Forte Software

Sorry, slightly off topic, but not that much!
I am about to install Forte 6.1 and I am faced with the normal procedure.
Deinstall old Workshop software and install new version, since the packages
use the same name and even the workrounds (see FAQ) does not give much hope!
Why can't SUN have different package names in the updates. I do not see any
major problems with that I installing/patching would be so easy!!!
e.g.
SPROcpl5
SPROcpl6
SPROcpl7
etc....
Install in /opt/SUNspro6 or /opt/SUNspro7....
It would make life much easier
Come on SUN it make sence....unless you think differently?

Which Forte application are you trying to install? Forte C?
Do you have libXm.so.4 in /usr/dt/lib by any chance?
Most likely, you do not have the correct version of Motif installed for the Forte product which you are trying to use. You probably need Motif 2.1 and higher. You can check which version you have by issuing the following command:
pkginfo -l SUNWmfrun
If you do not have Motif 2.1 installed, remove the version you have and install
Motif 2.1 from a Solaris 2.7 CDROM.

Installing Forte Web Enterprise.

Hi,
Need help on installing the Forte Web Enterprise. After installing
the WebEnterprise, I am suppose to test on the IIOP capabilities on each
machine(refer to WebEnterprise Installation Guide r1.0.c).
The steps are:
1 In the Forté workshops, create a project named TestIIOPproject.
2 Create a non-window class named TestMgr.
3 Create a TOOL class service object based on the TestMgr class.
4 Select the new service object in the Project Workshop.
5 Choose File > Configure as Server.
6. In the Partition Workshop, double-click the service object.
7. Click the Export tab.
8 Choose the External Type > IIOP command.
On the server node, all steps were carried out fine, but on my client
node, after I click the <Export> tab, under the <External Type>
droplist, there's no IIOP option. There options available are DCE,
Encina, Tuxedo, Object Broker and OLE. Why?
Anybody knows anything about this?

line. Perhaps "set -x" is already there commented, remove
that comment. That way you will come to know on which
instruction it is throwing "File not found" error.
Other problems could be 1. file permissions, 2. path settings
3. Improper download.

Installing Forte under win XP

Hi
I am tired of my forte install telling me it cannot find a JVM to install with. I just installed the latest JRE. The error also tells me to use the -is: localpath option. That doesn't work either.
Can someone show me the proverbial light here?

After some more investigation and reading the Troubleshooting section of the Getting Started Manual I attempted the following:
From the Manual:
"The Sun ONE Studio 4 IDE installer exits
without installing the product. No messages
are displayed.
Here are the possible causes and solutions:
� The file you have downloaded from the Sun ONE Studio 4 product download page is not complete. Download the file
again, and check that the size of the downloaded file is the
same as the file size specified on the product download page.
Run the IDE installer again.
� You have specified an invalid command-line parameter in the
installer.sp file. Check the file and correct any incorrect
command-line parameter setting. Run the IDE installer again.
� Run the installer launcher (<installer>.exe file or

I researched the Manual again and saw the following option:

The -is:tempdir command-line parameter

Installing Forte / iPlanet Server

I'm fairly new to Java programming and decided to try Forte. But I've had difficulty installing iPlanet server. When I fired up Forte, I got a box automatically asking me to specify the location for the installation. Here on Window XP, I naturally chose something under C:\Program. I added ..\iplanet\server and pressed "Finish." (Thought it would be that easy.)
It returned with an error saying it couldn't do the job because the sub-directory https-admserv didn't exist. OK -- I created https-admserv under C:\Program\iplanet\server
Not good enough. It returned complaining about the lack of the next directory it needed, this time showing that it was expecting '/' instead of '\'

OK, wait a minute. I'm not even sure that I have iPlanet Server in the first place. Did I mention that I'm new to Java -- I'm new to the whole Java world and have never been a system administrator. I'm a programmer and proud of it.
Anyway, the window popped up automatically, quite on its own. I didn't ask for it, but it wanted to run -- if I wanted iPlanet Server to run in an integrated fashion with Forte. Well, ya -- I guess. Is it just trying to confuse me, or what? (Now I'm starting to wonder if this isn't just more of a bug report, but I'm fumbling a bit in the dark because the whole world of Java is new to me.)
Now that I think about it, I remember at some point accepting the fact that I'm going to be working with a server that comes with Forte, and I don't actually think I have iPlanet Server.
Does anybody want to chat a bit with the new guy?

When I try to run the IDE I get the following message in a dialog: "Cannot setup user directory" Does anyone know what I can do about this? The FAQ is of no help at all. The SDK works fine though.

I am from Cisco ACS team. In ACS, we are exporting database-sybase version 12 to remote database which is oracle 10g.
During the export , it is getting failed for one of table with below exception.
--- Cause: java.sql.SQLException: [Sybase][JDBC Driver][SQL Anywhere]Cannot convert 'task_id=1040, priv-lvl=249, addr=1...' to a numeric
This column datatype in sybase defined as long varchar and in remote database schema oracle 10g defined as clob.

So we tried installing 10.2.0.5 version over oracle database 10g Express Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 -Beta.
Platform used: windows server2003 Standard x64 Edition Service pack2.
We have received a patch from oracle support team through the case " SR #3-10550770831 : 02, Download 10.2.0.5 Oracle Express patch for Windows x64"
When we try install C15101-01 ZIP file, "Error writing to the temporary location" thrown and not able to proceed. We have checked disk space and temp location including environment variable. But we will not be able to resolve the issue.
Could you please do the needful on this?

Express Edition cannot be patched - pl see the legal agreement you accepted when you downloaded XE.

hello linda, according to norton the toolbar is already compatible with all firefox versions up to the currently released version. please run the norton liveupdate utility repeatedly & until all components are up-to-date. in addition make sure that the toolbar is enabled under ''firefox > addons > extension'' afterwards.

There is a bug report about it not working when tabs are on top. You can use the keyboard shortcut Control+L to go to the address bar.

Installing 10.2.0.5 client on top of 10.2.0.3

I am trying to install the Oracle client on a Windows 7 machine (64 bit). I did some looking and found info which recommended installing the Oracle Database 10g Client Release 2 (10.2.0.3), followed by the 10.2.0.5 patch set. I downloaded and installed the 10.2.0.3 client. Next I went to get the patch, not realizing that one must have a support contract in order to download patches. I now see that I can get the 10.2.0.5 client itself. Since I don’t have access to the patch, would it be ok to just install the 10.2.0.5 client?? Would the 10.2.0.5 client replace 10.2.0.3? Or would this approach just lead to trouble?

Encore CS5 won't open after I downloaded and installed the content as directed. The top of the project opens at the bottom of the screen, freezes and is inaccessable.

Encore was launching and working fine but,as many others before me, I had no content in the Library panel and downloaded the content files from the link Adobe provides. When I relaunched Encore it froze at the bottom of my screen. I have restarted the application, the computer, and even deleted the preferences file but Encore still freezes. I am using a Mac, OSX ver. 10.6.8., 6 gigs of ram. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you sure you meant to write CS5?
My understanding is that CS5 had a "self contained" installer that installed everything, and it was CS6 that required extra downloads from Adobe
