Re: Max RAM for iBook G4

hello,
I am trying to find out the answer to the same question i.e. how much RAM can I add, and what do I ask for when buying RAM. also, can I buy from 3rd party vendors? If yes, which vendor/model# to ask for? I think apple stores will only provide upgrades for current models and not the one I bought in 2005.
another q: what applications will adding ram enable me to use -that are not usable otherwise?
specs of my ibook are given below. I saw memory configuration, it says 512MB built in, and 1 DIMM slot empty.
thanks
-kamal

{while this thread was "answered" and a new one should
have been started, I replied to the last new question here...}
iBook G4 (Mid 2005) -- info from mactracker: http://mactracker.ca
Logicboard RAM: 512MB (not removable)
Maximum RAM: 1.5GB (by adding one 1024MB chip)
1 - PC2700 DDR333 200-pin SO-DIMM
Places like Other World Computing, crucial.com and OEMPCworld
have compatible RAM. My iBook G4 1.33, 12" mid-2005 portable
has one from OEMPC and it is a Samsung Apple certified part. I
got mine after purchasing the computer, through the mail. It works.
The same part is compatible with the iMac G4 last model 1.25 17/20.
Hopefully this helps!

  • Max ram for 2.4ghz 2008 model intel imac 24"?

      Hi.
Im trying to get the max ammount of ram in my imac 24" 2008 model aluminum body i believe. it has 2.4ghz intel core 2 duo. and its running mac os x 10.5.8
I want to get the highest ammount of ram my machine can handle. I know apple says 4gb is max, but im wondering if anyone has put in 8gb and it works?
also could you tell me what the ram is called exactly so I can type it in to amazon and find the correct kind. Please help me on this issue! I want the MAXIMUM ram for my imac!!! Thanks all!
Also, would it be worth upgraded to snow leopard? Im new to macs and dont know if that would make a difference? Give me your opinions on this and I'll do as you say for you are more knowledgable then I at macs! thanks again.
And what all can I download for my machine in terms of operating systems to make it the most current my machine can run at? can I install lion after leopard on my machine?

The maximum you can put in is 6GB, that is all that machine can address. WWW.MacSales.com (OWC) makes a 6GB kit and I'd recommend purchasing from them. Your machine could be a late 2007 or mid (began shipping in April) 2008. You will need to check the specifications which you can find in your owners manual or click Support in the upper right of this page then click Tech Specs. OWC is the only vendor I know that makes a 6GB kit however if you have the correct specs you can make your own, a 1x2GB DIMM and a 1X4GB DIMM. You don't mention where on the planet you're located, OWC is a US company but will ship overseas.

  • What is the max ram for a iMac DV 400mhz? (family M5521)

I've read several posts on this forum about the max memory for this iMac. Several people say it's 512 then usually someone comes back and says "Actually it's 1024". As per the Apple specs page (posted below) the Min is 64MB and the Max is 512MB. Is that overall system, or per slot? I'm guessing it's per slot, since it has two slots and the Ram Sizes states it can handle a 512 chip (2 slots @ 512 ea. = 1024) am I wrong in this?
    Thanks,
    -Matt
    RAM Slots: 2, PC100 DIMM
    Min - Max RAM: 64 MB - 512 MB
    Min RAM Speed:
    RAM Sizes: 64, 128, 256, 512 MB
    iMac DV 400Mhz 512Mb   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

First ensure that you have the correct firmware installed. See Announcement: iMac (Slot Loading): Install iMac Firmware 4.1.9 Before Mac OS X 10.2 or later.
You will need OS 9 installed on the hard drive to install that firmware update. If OS 9 is currently on the hard drive you can install the firmware update (if needed) before swapping the hard drive.
Yes you can install OS 10.3 directly without installing OS 9. If there is any possibility that you will want to boot from OS 9 in the future, ensure that you pick the option to install the OS 9 disk drivers.

  • RAM for iBook

Hello, I have a question about RAM for my iBook (1.42 GHz). I would like to upgrade the RAM from the factory installed 512 mb. I can get another 512 mb for $100, and 1 GB for just under $300. Will the improved performance of the extra memory be worth the extra money?

The RAM at Future Shop is Kingston 512 mb, 200 pin, PC2700 SO-DIMM DDR. The Apple site has PC 2700, DDR 333, 200 pin, 1.25 inch SDRAM, SO-DIMM.
Not sure if these are the same thing or not. I'm not convinced that the people at Future Shop know very much about any Apple product, although they are an authorized re-seller. Maybe this won't be as easy as I thought....
Will there be much difference having 1 GB total RAM versus 1.5 GB total RAM?

  • Max HDD & Max RAM for V3757TU

May I know the Maximum Internal Hard Disk and Maximum RAM for V3757TU ?
Can I upgrade to 1TB 2.5 Sata HDD and 4GB RAM?
the current using is 160GB HDD and 1GB RAM.

    Hi:
According to the service manual if you have the Intel processor, max is 2 GB.
If you have the AMD processor, max is 4 GB.
I would run the free crucial memory scanner to see what it reports.
    http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/index.aspx
If you are changing out all of the memory, get PC2-6400 memory for best performance. Your PC can run better than with the PC2-5300 stock memory.
    Hard drive:
I wouldn't go past 500 GB. I don't think a 1 TB drive will physically fit in the drive bay. They are normally thicker.
You can probably also get a SATA II 7,200 RPM drive at the expense of some battery time between charges, but have better performance.

  • Max RAM for MacBook Pro 13-inch, Early 2011?

I have a 13-inch MacBook Pro (early 2011 model). The Apple page for that particular machine seems to say that the max RAM is:
    4GB (two 2GB SO-DIMMs) of 1333MHz DDR3 memory; two SO-DIMM slots support up to 8GB
However, when I found the same model MBP on Crucial, the reccommended upgrade suggested was a 16GB kit (2 x 8GB SO-DIMMs).
Does anybody know which one of these suggestions is right? I obviously don't want to buy double the RAM that I need, but at this point I would quite like to max it out....??

    "4GB (two 2GB SO-DIMMs) of 1333MHz DDR3 memory; two SO-DIMM slots support up to 8GB"
This means, Apple tested the computer with only 8GB memory.

  • What's the max RAM for HP Elite 8200 minitower?

Hi, I'm looking at getting an HP Compaq 8200 Elite CMT PC (part number LE245PA) and have a question about the maximum RAM it will take. The PC is the one at http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/au/en/sm/WF05a/12454-12454-64287-3328898-3328898-5037949.html?dnr=1
Page 10 of http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/13879_na/13879_na.pdf is a bit ambiguous and I can't work out whether the max is 16GB, or whether it is 32GB.
It says "1GB, 2GB, and 4GB DDR3 DRAM technologies are supported. Using 4 GB device technologies, the largest memory capacity possible is 32 GB, assuming dual channel mode with four x 8 GB dual ranked unbuffered DIMM memory configuration".
But then the table at the bottom of the same page seems to imply that that maximum is 16GB.
Can anyone please advise whether the maximum is 16GB or 32GB in this model?
    This question was solved.

    Hi:
I don't understand all that rigamarole.
It is very confusing. It appears that HP copied some info from Intel regarding the chipset's specs and I couldn't make heads or tails of it on the Intel site either.
Max RAM per slot is 4 GB.
I installed 16 GB in mine.

  • What is the max RAM for Satellite Z930-12Z?

    Hi,
im need to know the maximum ram amount for the Toshiba Satellite Z930-12Z. The toshiba website tells me it is selled with 2 x 2048 and you can expand up to 6 gb ram with replaycing one dim with 4 gb. but on the kongston website there is a 8gb dim available, so the max would 10gb (2gb +8GB) is the 8 gb kingston module ( KTT-S3C/8G)
    http://www.kingston.com/de/memory/search?DeviceType=19&Mfr=TOS&Line=Satellite&Model= 85359
    really compatilbe?

    Yes, I agree.
The Intel HM 76 chipset would support the 16GB RAM if two memory slots are available.
In your case it should be possible to use 2x 8GB RAM DDR3 1600(PC3-12800)
Of course 2Gb and 8GB RAM (10GB RAM) should be possible too!

  • What is absolute max ram for a macbook pro 2,16 core 2 duo processor?

Hello guys, thanks for reading this post.
i read so many people saying that my 2007 mbp only going to max at 3GB if i put 2x 2Gb ram
i look up on apple store memory, my processor doesnt show as choices
i then look up on OWC website, and they show my macbook pro 2,16 core 2 duo is in fact a "model identifier" macbookpro2,2
which made me viable to get full 4GB.
just to be sure, my macbook pro serial number is
    W87****W0G
and this macbook pro now has 2x 1GB ram pc2-5300
i saw people selling pc2-5300 on cglist, but they look so long and different from the shorter and taller one on apple and owc website.
so i am a bit confused, isnt this pc2-5300 not the same thing for all pc/mac? the one on cglist was made from hp, so i didnt contact the seller.
well, i am running mac osx lion now
will be plugging lacie expresscard usb 3
and will be using aperture 3 (which req lion to use so i cant downgrade os)
and i had few issues of screen occasionally flickering, does that mean i need more Ram??
sorry, i go a bit off topic here.
thanks for all you who keep reading and hopefully have a bit to say back to me.
    cheers
    Vito

    update:
after the information i posted above
i checked again my memory use in the activity monitor
and its true, only 3Gb is being used even the about this computer info says 4Gb.
thus, i returned the one 2Gb card and use one 1Gb from old one.
it made exactly same effect, nothing different.
i thought i just made this post so anybody have same issue later would know

  • Maximum installable ram for ibook g4 800mhz?

i get conflicting answers...can i install 1g of ram into this thing?

According to this link in the iBook G4 developer note, the iBook G4 800 MHz has a single RAM slot that can accept a 512 MB SO-DIMM for a total RAM of 640 MB.
Crucial.com and 18004Memory.com seem to agree that 640 MB is the maximum memory for that iBook.
The information in KB 302333, iBook memory (RAM) guide is confusing. I would be willing to bet that the writer of that article made a mistake.
However... if you want to experiment, you could purchase a 1 GB module and try it out. Trying it shouldn't hurt the RAM or the iBook. The iBook either will or won't recognize the additional RAM. If you do try this, please report back with the results.

  • Differing info on max RAM for an eMac-Anyone know?

    Hi guys/gals,
Apple says the eMac takes 1GB RAM maximum, but I've read on other sites--third part providers--that it will take up to 2GB RAM maximum.
I'm sure I should take Apple's word for it, but what's the deal with the other ramblings of more RAM?
    Anyone?
    Thanks,
    Keith

    Crucial is sometimes wrong....
The eMac USB2.0 models with DDR RAM can go to a maxiumum of 2 Gb RAM with 2 x 1 gb PC2700 DIMMs
I recommend that you go with a reputable seller who tests and guarantees compatibility with your model Mac, in the USA I like Data Memory Systems http://www.datamem.com/viewcat.aspQ_C_E1151

  • Max RAM for 2.16 Core Duo MBP?

I have a 2.16 Ghz Core Duo Macbook Pro 15" officially the maximum ram is listed as 2Gb, but someone told me you could take out both modules and replace with 2 x 2Gb.
Can anyone confirm or deny this, I'd love to bump this to 4Gb

I have one of the early build 2.16 ghz intel core duo 17" macbook pros. I'm trying to get new memory. I just started reading that perhaps I can do the 2 x 2gb chips and use at least get 3 gb of ram.
Anyone done this recently? Any recommendations on where to purchase and what chips? If you look on sites like crucial and mushkin they say only 2 gb max. So it's hard to know what chips I can purchase that will work with my mac.
