Hi Friend,
Start with Reports. What the client is using. What he is expecting.
If he got existing reports map the fields with Business Content BW Fields. Go to Business content and make a list of queries which are delivered from SAP. Explain them the KPI's. This should be good to start with. Also check the Tcodes they use.
Look for DataSources that get data from theses Tcode's.
Project Preparation (Initial stuff -- Do a conceptual review after this phase requirements gathering)
Collect requirement thru interviews with Business teams /Core users / Information Leaders.
Study & analyze KPI's (key figures) of Business process.
Identify the measurement criteria's (Characteristics).
Understand the Drill down requirements if any.
Understand the Business process data flow if any.
Identify the needs for data staging layers in BW – (i. e need for ODS if any)
Understand the system landscape.
Prepare Final Requirements Documents in the form of Functional Specifications containing:
Report Owners, Data flow, KPI's, measurement criteria's, Report format along with drilldown requirements.
Business Blue print (Functional spec-- Do a design review after this phase)
Check Business content against the requirements
Check for appropriate
Info Objects - Key figures & Characters
Check for Info cubes / ODS
Check for data sources & identify fields in source system
Identify Master data document all the information in a file – follow standard templates
Prepare final solution
Identify differences (Gaps) between Business Content & Functional specification.
Propose new solutions/Developments & changes if required at different levels such as Info Objects, Info cube, Data source etc. Document the gaps & respective solutions proposed– follow standard templates
Design & Documentation
Design the ERD & MDM diagrams for each cube & related objects
Design the primary keys/data fields for intermediate Storage in ODS
Design the Data flow charts right from data source up to Cube.
Consider the performance parameters while designing data models
Prepare High level / Low level design documents for each data model. --- Follow standard templates
Identify the Roles & Authorizations required and Document it – follow standard templates
Final review of design with core BW users.
Sign off the BBP documents
Realization ( Develop; Do a configuration review after this phase)
Check & Apply Latest Patches/Packages ...in BW & R/3 systems.
Activate/Build & enhance the cubes/ODS as per data model designs...maintain the version documents.
Identify & activate Info objects / Master data info sources / attributes, prepare update rules
Assign data sources .prepare transfer rules, prepare multi providers. Prepare Info packages.
Perform the unit testing for data loads….both for master data & transaction data.
Develop & test the end user queries.
Design the process chains, schedule & test
Create authorizations / Roles …assign to users..And test
Apply necessary patches & Notes if any freeze & release the final objects to quality systems
perform quality tests.
Re design if required. (Document changes, maintain versions)
Final Preparation ( QA and Other final stuff before moving to production, Do a performance Review after this phase)
Prepare the final check list of objects to be released .identify the dependencies & sequence of release perform Go Live checks as recommended by SAP in production system
Keep up to date Patch Levels in Production system
Test for production scenarios in a pre-production system which is a replica of production system.
Do not encourage the changes at this stage.
Freeze the objects.
Go Live and support ( to production and support)
Keep up to date Patch Levels
Release the objects to production system
Run the set ups in R/3 source system & Initialize Loads in BW
Schedule Batch jobs in R/3 system (Delta loads)
Schedule the process chains in BW.
Performance tuning – on going activity
Enhancements - if any

• Scenario selection in Template Selection tab of the Scope of a project

Hi All
I've just installed SolMan 7.0 EhP 1 and am creating a new project (with transaction SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN). In the Scope tab, under the Template Selection I can only find 1 Scenario to choose.
Under "Select one or more Scenarios", there is only the selection SISE_BC - Simplified Solution Manager Basic Configuration, that has 1 check box for the selection Basic SAP Solution Manager Configuration.
I was informed by a PM that there should be many more to select from. That I must have missed something in the set up.
My question is, How do I bring in all of the Scenario selections to choose from?
Ken

Hi
I think you need to map the scenario from BPR which comprises of all SAP standard scenarios or best practices
which can be done as shown below

• Learning Scope in Upgrade Project

Hi SAP Gurus,
I would like to know what is the learning scope for a fresher in an Upgrade Project(SAP Upgrade).
Please help me in this regard.
Thanks,
Babu Kilari

Hi Babu,
You can learn lot of things if you are working in the Upgrade Project.
For the upgrade you should have all knowledge about the source system as well as target system.
I needs a lot of homework from your side coz a fresher we can expect that you will be knowing a little things.
But I can only tell you that Upgrade is definetely a good learning experience.
You can use Solution Browser tool to know the difference between various versions of SAP and from different point of views.

• Concerned about the scope of this project, do I need an LMS?

Good afternoon,
I have been scouring the forums today as I try to wrap my head around captivate as this is a new piece of software to me. I wanted to build a decent understanding of how my project should be structured before actually building anything and along the way I discovered LMS while I was examining the quizzing features.
First id like to give an idea to the community of what I'm trying accomplish with this project. I have a few relatively simple training programs that I would like to automate online for new employee's coming in to the company. Each "class" will be roughly 30 minutes followed up with a quiz. So I'm curious if I would need an LMS to handle the quizzing since there's no compliance issues here, I just want to be assured that they paid attention and completed the training. Since it's all internal, can I just build out the training programs in captivate, publish to our site and collect the quiz results via e-mail or some other deliver? Or is there always a need for an LMS?
Thanks for any advice, this is a little bit more than I anticipated when I dreamed up the idea (isn't it always).
Aaron

LMSs are typically very expensive and clunky. Though there is at least one
'free' LMS, but if you don't have web development and database skills, you
could find that 'free' is anything but.
If you simply want to do a test and capture the scores, Captivate does come
with a basic feature that allows to you 'roll your own' tracking via a web
server, some scripting and a database. If you have web skills, this could
be an easy option.
If you find even that daunting, you could build your lessons in Captivate,
then utilize online quizzing and survey tools to do your own free or very
cheap quizzes. I've not looked at using them for this purpose, but for
instance SurveyMonkey and Zoomerang are popular options that have
comprehensive reporting features.

• Project authorization at task level for a user

Dear friends,
I have created one project called TEST in solution manager. I am have assigned standard ASAP methodology as a road map for that project. I wants to restrict my user to do business blueprinting only for particular business process. I wants to restrict him to access other processes related to the same project.
How to restrict authorization in individual task level (lower level) in solution manager for an user or team member?
How is it possible?
Thanks
Senthil

Hi Arkadiy,
I wants to maintain dependency for my project execution. Let me explain in detail.
My project name is TEST, it follows ASAP methodology, contains five phases namely,
1. Project preparation
2. Business Blueprint
3.Realization
4. Final Preparation
5. Golive & support
In each phase, some specific tasks to be completed.
Let us consider, in Project preparation phase, i am having tasks of following:
A. Define Project scope
B. Define Project Plan
C. Define project team members
D. Project charter sign off
My question is:
without completing( means status should be "Complete") Project scope (Task "A"), the system should NOT allow the team member to jump into next task ( Define Project plan). Like that i wants to maintain dependency for individual each task.
Is it possible?
Your answer will be very much appreciated.
Thanks
Senthil

• Deliverables in implementation project?

Dear Gurus,
what are the deliverables in implementation project?

Hi,
For quick understanding
Ensuring successful implementation of a project, the Project Scope is a vital and critical component containing with documents of the projectu2019s deliverables with Scope and out of scope. In Project the background need to mention the project definition, Objective, Deliverable, Scope and out of Scope. The scope statement is an agreement between the project team and the project customer by identifying both the project objectives and the major project deliverables (what is possible).
The deliverables part conations:
1. Development of a project plan( you can have methodology or tool to implement) for overarching project
2.Development of project plans for associated project( GAP or Parallel Activities)
3.Development of a communication plan
4.Production of monthly project status reports to document progress
5. Production of monthly report
6.Production of a final report
7.Production of project completion report
8.Project review (Continuous improvement)

• How to programmatically add UDVs to project?

Hi all,
I have successfully used something like this to programatically add shared variables to an LVLIB (the code assumes that the library associated with the Container Reference contains at least one variable):
An example output would be:
Container Name: "MyLibrary.lvlib"
Variable Name: "Variable1"
Variable Path: <blank>
Variable Type String: "Variable"
(I notice that there is no way to specify the data type of the variable, and LabVIEW creates a DBL variable in the LVLIB by default.)
However, if Container Reference is associated with a "User-Defined Variables" container, then I get Error 1 at the Invoke Node ("LabVIEW: An input parameter is invalid"). A example output is:
Container Name: "User-Defined Variables"
Variable Name: "Variable1"
Variable Path: <blank>
Variable Type String: "Variable"
Questions:
Does the error occur because LabVIEW is trying to create a DBL variable (which is not allowed with UDVs)?
How can I programmatically add UDVs to my project?
Thanks in advance!

What is the scope of your project? How will you be using these UDV's?

• Role of a functional consultant in an upgrade project

Hello friends,
My client is planning for an upgrade of 4.7 to ECC 6.0.
Could you pls give me some info regarding the Role of a functional consultant in an upgrade project.
Naveen

The role of a functional consultant in an Upgrade depends on the scope of the project.
whether it is a Technical Upgrade or a Functional Upgrade.
Following would be some of responsibilities -
Coordinate with Client Business/Functional Team to identify critical business processes, understand the functionality of the custom developments
Overall Test Planning, Preparation of Test Plans, test scripts and executing Unit and Integration testing
Providing clarifications for functional related issues during UAT
It is is functional upgrade analyze which custom functionalities can be retired and which can be brought back to standard.
Prepare a POC on the recommended new functionalities on how these would be useful for the Client.
Training the Client super users
Preparing training documents
Analyzing the obsolete transacations and modifying the documents with the new transactions
Hope this helps you.

• How Can I Verify My Final Project?

I've completed my project and I'm about to send it to the replicators, but it turns out a check disk is too costly. And if it's wrong, I still have to pay to glass master again.
Can anyone please advise me on the following, as to verifying my project:
1) I encoded my video at 7.5kbps. Talking to a professional authorer today he told me he rarely encoded above 7 and aimed mostly for 6. (However his encoding is hardware based and I had to use the Quicktime conversion MPEG2 software in FC HD) He also said that if I get spikes then it could cause playback errors. Is 7.5 too high to encode in. My audio was all compressed in Apack, but how can I verify the final MPEG2 video stream to see if there are any spikes in it? How do I also check what the highest bit rate encode was on my video. I only used one pass by the way.
2) How do I calculate the kpbs of my audio streams and add it onto the final bit rate? Is there a way of checking my encoded Apack sound files to find out what the bit rate is of it?
3) As I am having to advance format all my files from DVDSP into the DDP format (as I don't have DLT so I'm submitting my project as two separate discs for each layer), I've been told that I should also verify my DDP files. How? What piece of software would I need.
One last thing, was that playing my video back by loading the VOB files into the Mac video player, I was getting choppy playback in full screen. In normal screen mode it was fine. This has nothing to do with too high a bit rate encoding on my MPEG2 file is it?
Sorry for all the questions and confusion, but I'm behind on the deadline on delivery and this will be my last chance to re-encode the video streams before it's too late.

I know you did not ask this part, but I would be remiss in not stating it - if you are going to a replicator you really should get check discs made, no ifs, ands or buts about it. And those should be QC'd on various players. I am not sure how large your run is or the scope of the project, but you do not want to be stuck later on.

Yes spikes can cause playback issues, less on replicated discs but can still happen. As to encode rates you should use the lowest rate that gives you acceptable quality. What is you footage? High action? DVD SP does not have a way to check in it for spikes. There are other tools out there for that, or some DVD players will actuallly show the rate as you play it from a menu selection.

dvdafteredit(.com) mastering edition should probably do what you want though I just tried to Compare to a Disc Image and it worked, but could not get it to compare to a DDP Tape Image for some reason, I would chalk that up to user error (mine) Others here may be able to confirm one way or the other

The Apple DVD Player? Anyway when you start expanding to full screen, the player has to do more work to stretch it to the screen. View it actual size and see if the issue goes away

• Why SAP Projects Fails??

Hello abapers, right now i'm writing a paper for the company that i work, this paper it's related with SAP Projects, i would be so glad if you let me hear your comments about What are the reason that you think that makes SAP Projects Fails? It an IT related stuff.
I want collect all your comments based on your experience implanting SAP Projects. This is important to me because a will see closer the common problem around the world and will not localized my paper use only issues that i may know.
Regards,
Carlos.

Hi Carlos,
You have touched upon a major topic here and I am not sure if you can ever close this post. But let me give it a try. Let me try to put it into perpective by discussing the topic following the project lifecycle.
Now any ERP implementation starts with a requirement at the top level to refine their IT landscape to better support the business. Then you go out to search for the best tool to do that. That can be your first point of failure, if you don't identify the right fit(ERP software) for your organization. I was on a SAP project where they thought SAP is the best fit for their business, but 6 months into the project, they realized that even though SAP is the best ERP software around, it didn't fit their needs. They scrapped the project and went for custom development in Oracle.
Then comes your choice of the implementation partner. A big implementation like an ERP implementation cannot be completely sourced with inhouse resources. You meed a implementation partner who has the experience to steer you though the implementation and make it successful. Now this is not specific to SAP, but with SAP you have to be even more careful on this aspect because of the costs and time involved.
Once you have identified SAP as the tool and identified your implementation partner, you then venture into the identification of implementation team from your organization. Depending on which modules you are implementing, you want to identify teams that have a very healthy mix of business knowledge, experience in specific areas of the company's business functions, technical expertise that can easily adopt and learn new software quickly. If your team is not chosen wisely then there will be a makor gap between the requirements and their translation into implementation.
Defining the scope of the project is also important. By doing this, you will identify which processes you will implement in SAP and as a result which applications you will replace with SAP and which applications you will interface with SAP. If you fail to correctly identify this, then the project will fail.
An ERP implementation means a lot of change and that means all your end users, your implementation team, your management and basically everyone should be ready for it. This involves a major investment(not necessarily monetary) in change management. There will be a change in the way you do things and everyone should be ready for it. If they are not, then there will be a failure in effective use of the tool thus effecting its utility to the organization and the productivity of the employee.
After you are past the requirements phase and team preparation phase, you enter the design phase. The project can make or break depending on what happens in this phase. This is where the implementation team goes out to define the business processes, identify requirements and translate them into configuration and development specs etc. If any of the tasks here go wrong, then the final product will be a failure.
In the development phase, it can be any or all of the factors like lack of technical expertise, lack of usage of best practices, lack of standards, lack of supporting infrastructure etc.
Other factors include, support from top management and business process owners for the project(they should be the stakeholders in this), political aspects of the client place, integration requirements etc.
As Anand pointed you first need define 'failure'. In a project as big as an ERP/SAP implementation, a complete scrapping of the project can be a failure, or not completing the project on budget, on time could be a failure or not being able to deliver one specific critical functionality can be a failure. So as you can see, the definition of the failure itself can be so different for so many implementations.
Even though your question is specific to SAP, my answer is more generic and applicable to any large scale project. SAP inherently has no in-built faults that make a project a failure. As long as you keep all the above factors in control, you should have a successful project.
Hope this discussion continues.

• Project Time estimate for SAP BI

Hi Experts,
Can somebody please give me the time estimate for SAP BI project.
I am supposed to give effort analysis for BI implementation project.
Thanks in Advance.

If you know the scope of the project you can give rough estimate. Scoping gives you idea about number of Business process to be mapped in BI, number of reports required, criticality of report. The timing will alos depend upon the standard /customized content and enhancement done in source system. If there are independent business process you can reduce the implementation time by increaing the resources for the project.
If you want to get idea about time check the ASAP methodology and see how much time you need for each step of project plan. Roughly you will get the time.

• SAP Project Tools

Hi There
Recently my manager requested me to download the below SAP tools from Service Marketplace. Question is, are these tools not intergrated with Solution Manager because most of them reference to ASAP which from my understanding has been phased out. IS this worth the effort to download them? If yes, then where and how can I download them.
u2022 The Project Estimator, an internal SAP tool which enables SAP consultants to accurately gauge the required resources, the costs and the time frame of implementation. The Project Estimator takes into account the project scope and several project and risk factors.
u2022 The Concept Check Tool, a tool enabling you to carry out quality checks on the project preparation, technical infrastructure and R/3 configuration settings. This is done mainly during the first two implementation phases of the R/3 project. In this way you are alerted to potential data volume and configuration conflicts that could lead to performance issues if not addressed.
u2022 The Implementation Assistant: The ASAP navigation tool that accompanies you through the five phases of implementation down to the task level. It includes a description and a detailed "how-to" for each task in the Roadmap. Along with that, many tools, templates and documents are hyperlinked to the task. The Implementation Assistant contains the following elements:
u2022 ASAP Implementation Roadmap and Project Plan. The Roadmap contains the five phases, from which you can drill down into work packages, activities and tasks. The Project Plan contains three components, a budget plan, a resource plan and a work plan
Regards,
Prince

Dear Prince,
From a tool perspective, the SAP Solution Manager implementation function is the successor to the ValueSAP tools, covering implementation aspects. This means that all major ValueSAP/AcceleratedSAP tools such as the Implementation Assistant, Q&Adb, and the Master Lists are replaced by SAP Solution Manager functionality.
I would recommend you to kindly visit the URL :
http://service.sap.com/solutionmanager
There is a FAQ Section built here which addresses most of the common queries on Solution Manager.
Hope that this addresses your query.

• Help On Java Project

Hi Everyone,
I am in my final year of my computing degree, and left with the final year project which is so important to my final outcome. I am still undecided on what to do for my project. I was hoping you fellows could help me with some creative solutions.
The scope for the project is like this ().
- It should be able to do in 6 months.(which includes the documentations and reports and all you know ........... )
- It should have something that is new (you know like a new innovation, a new way of doing it)If its a tool then it should do something new, there should'nt be alternative tools existing that does the same purpose.
- It has to be software (Not Hardware, Network, Database, Architecture)
- I like the project to include most of the following (Cause these are my strengnths)
* Programming language - Java
* Database - SQL or Oracle
* Web Based (Using XML, XSL ...................... etc etc)
* Some thing where I can use AI techniques (Neural N, GeneticA)
I am losing Time ... I really hope you can give some wonderful ideas.
So many Thanks in Advance for all of you.

• What primary content type would be right for a Project Charter?

Hi everybody
We want to register our Project Charter in SharePoint but without uploading a word or pdf document. I tried creating a new content type with Element Type Content as Primary and it seems not to be the right type because in this case I can have more than
one Project Charter and this project document is only one (without their versions).
I hope you could help me, I just started to use SharePoint and SharePoint Designer.
Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to do. Do you plan on having multiple project charters? If so a content type may make sense. If there is only one project charter it's probably not worth creating a content type.
My understanding of a project charter is that it's a statement of the goals and scope of a project. In this case I believe any of the out of the box pages with a content editor web part would work to serve as a way of entering and displaying the charter.
Alternatively a wiki site for the project could work and provide a way for project members to collaborate on documentation.

• Where to create project?

Hi,
We are going to implement ECC 6.0. Client has brief organisation structure as, one holding company has share service department (SSD)which centally handles HR, finance, project management, procurement. This holding company has other manufacturing companies. SSD will supply all services and material to these companies. I am working on Project System module. Can anybody tell me where project should be created, in SSD or in company?
And can anybody give me documents about share sevice?
Thanks
sudhir

hi sudhir,
i am giving in brief please check it out,
Create/Change Project
Prerequisites
You need the authorizations described in Authorization Concept to create projects in the SAP Solution Manager.
You are in the initial screen of the Project Administration transaction in the SAP Solution Manager.
Procedure
1. Choose Project ® Create.
2. Enter a project name in the Create Project dialog box, and choose Continue.
The project name may contain a combination of letters and numbers up to 10 characters in length.
3. Select a Project Type.
See Project Types for an overview of the different project types and their use.
You cannot change the project type later, in the same project. To change the project type, e.g. if you have created an implementation project, but realize that you want to create templates with it, copy the project, and change the project type of the new project.
4. You can assign a solution landscape to the project.
If you create your project structure in the Business Blueprint phase, you can later put structure elements from the selected solution landscape in it.
5. Choose Continue.
You go to the Maintain Project screen.
6. Enter a meaningful project name and language.
7. Save the header data for your project.
8. Enter a name for the enhancement context in which the project documents are to be saved in the SAP Knowledge Warehouse, in the next dialog box.
9. Choose Continue.
10. For a template project, enter a package in which the project structure is to be saved, in the dialog box that appears.
The system copies the package specified here into the Transport Requests tab and uses it by default for subsequent changes to the scope or the project structure in the Business Blueprint. If you want to prevent this package being used later by default, delete it from the Transport Requests tab.
See Transport Requests for further information.
11. Save your entries.
Result
The saved project is put in the SAP Solution Manager project overview. You can now specify header data for the project:
● General Data
