Re: values returned by select in Oracle 8.

Can you post a test program that can duplicate it here. I will take a look
at it.

Hi,
I am using Weblogic JDriver with Weblogic 6.0 on Solaris for Oracle8.1.6.
The database is in UTF8.
When I do a select, the value returned is a blank string.
Data is present in the table and its varchar2.
Please help as this is a really urgent issue..
Thanks,
Francis

  • Execute a query for each value returned by subquery

    Hy, I have a query and a subquery(both of them are selects) and I want the outer query to be executed for each value returned by the subquery but the outer query has to return only one result.
    For example, the following query is right for what I want?:
    the following query finds out which authors live in the same city by looking at the postal code:
    select au_fname, au_lname, city
    from authors
    where city = all
    (select city
    from authors
    where postalcode like "946%")
    I undertand the sentence "select au_fname, au_lname, city from authors where city=" will be executed for each value returned by "select city from authors where postalcode like "946%"". Is this right?
    Thanks

Sorry, I don't understand what you want. What if several rows in the table meet all the criteria? Do you only want some kind of summary of all of them?
    Whenever you have a question, post a little sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements), and the results you want from that data.
    For example, the following query is right for what I want?:
    the following query finds out which authors live in the same city by looking at the postal code:
    select au_fname, au_lname, city
    from authors
    where city = all
    (select city
    from authors
    where postalcode like "946%")As I said earlier, I don't know what you want , but whatever it is, the query above is probably not the right way to get it.
    Perhaps you meant "IN" instead of "= ALL", like this:
    SELECT  au_fname, au_lname, city
    FROM      authors
    WHERE      city     IN          -- ***NOT***  = all
              (   SELECT  city
                  FROM    authors
                  WHERE   postalcode LIKE "946%"
    I undertand the sentence "select au_fname, au_lname, city from authors where city=" will be executed for each value returned by "select city from authors where postalcode like "946%"". Is this right?No; the main query will be executed once, and the sub-query will be executed once. The rows in the main query will be compared to the results of the sub-query, to see if they will be included in the result set or not. This goes both for the original query you posted, and the modified version I posted.

    Maybe I don't understand exactly what you want, or you gave a bad example. But your example is simply:
    select au_fname, au_lname, city
    from authors
    where postalcode like '946%'
    No; consider this data:
    INSERT INTO authors (au_lname, city, postalcode) VALUES ('Virgil',     'Oakland',     '94601');
    INSERT INTO authors (au_lname, city, postalcode) VALUES ('Steinbeck',     'Oakland',     NULL);
    INSERT INTO authors (au_lname, city, postalcode) VALUES ('Grass',     'Emeryville',     '94608');What OP posted would return no rows, because nobody is in both 'Oakland' and 'Emeryville'.
    What you posted would return 'Virgil' and 'Grass'.
    What I posted would reutn all 3 rows, including Steinbeck, whose city is known to be related to a '946%' postalcode, even though his own postalcode is missing.

  • Can not user Raw value as NULL return in Select List

    Help me!
    I recently converted my application to take advantage of the sys_guid() function that oracle offers over the sequence/trigger option.
    However, I user a hierarchical set up and I need to be able to insert a RAW value of '00' if the user does not select something in a select list. When I try to do this, I get an "ORA-01465: invalid hex number" error.
    I've also tried to return 00 and HEXTORAW(0) but that didn't work either. Infact 00 return a can not insert null value. Please help as I believe the sys_guid function is the best choice if I can make it work.

    Hey Scott, my first name is Daniel.
    Here is in detail the reason for which I want to be able to work with RAW. As everyone knows, most of your tables your going to have a UID. In general this is going to be a NUMBER column into which you will insert values that populate from a trigger getting the nextval of a sequence and returning the result into the NUMBER column of the row being inserted.
    This, however, requires a trigger and a sequence. Not that that's really a bad thing, I just think it can be done better. All we are really after here is a UUID or GUID. The thing is if you used a sequence to generate this value, you don't have a good way of knowing that the number is truly unique. You'll learn this as soon as you try to merge with a table from another database or do something else of the like.
    What I prefer to do is to use Oracle's SYS_GUID function when I create a table. To use this function you create a RAW(16) DEFAULT SYS_GUID(). From that point you don't even need to reference the column on insert, unless you're inserting into * and in that case you just specify DEFAULT. The use of sys_guid means I don't need a trigger and I don't need a sequence, and the result will always be unique, regardless of the DB.
    In APEX, and elsewhere, the way you use a select list is with a display value and a return value. An example would be, emp_name as the display value and emp_id as the return value. In my case, the emp_id would be the RAW values returned by the SYS_GUID() function when the employee was created. But it's not working because of the RAW value.
    I know that APEX can enter the value in session state that is returned from a RAW column because I did a test earlier and it worked. I would have to see it in session state for debugging. *** The problem is in creating a new record. ***
    APEX really does not have to work with the RAW column because the default value has been specified. But for some reason, it does not like it anyway. I found this problem when working with parent/child relationships in my tables.
    Lets say there are three columns GUID, TITLE, and PARENT. When creating a new record, I allow the user to select its parent. If the new record IS a parent then they would leave it as the default '- Is Parent -' and the PARENT column would be left as NULL. But because the GUID is RAW to make the relationship work with the parent, the PARENT column would be RAW too and APEX gives me the errors I was telling you about before.
    Sorry for going on so long. I don't know if I even got my point across. ;) Please let me know if you need me to do something on my part to further demonstrate my point. I would be happy to set up a demo if requested.

    I have problem in an JSF Application that uses the EMP and DEPT tables .
    the Application contains two pages

    the calling page includes :deptno and dname columns as
    <af:column headerText="#{bindings.EmpView1.labels.Deptno}">

    best regards,

    Hi,
    However, I am using the Jdeveloper 10.1.3.3, but still getting this error. I could not find any threads related to this problem and hence I wrote up here. Anyway I have also logged an SR #7179012.993 for the same with the testcase. I hope the issue will be resolved soon.

  • Get all values from multi select in a servlet

    Hello,
    I have a multi <select> element in a HTML form and I need to retrieve the values of ALL selected options of this <select> element in a servlet.
    HTML code snippet
    <select name="elName" id="elName" multiple="multiple">
    Servlet code snippet
    response.setContentType("text/html");
    PrintWriter out = null;

    String output = "";
    String[] str = request.getParameterValues("elName");
    for(String s : str) {
    output += s + ":";
    output = output.substring(0, output.length()-1); // cut off last deliminator
    out.println(output);But even when selecting multiple options, the returned text only ever contains the value of the first selected option in the <select>
    What am I doing wrong? I'm fairly new to servlets

    I am using AJAX.
    I will show you how I'm submitting the <select> values by showing you the flow of code:
    This is the HTML code for the <select> tag and the button that sends the form data:
    <form name="formMain" id="formMain" method="POST">
         <input type="button" id="addOpts" name="addOpts" value="Add Options" style="width:auto; visibility:hidden" onClick="jsObj.addOptions('servletName', document.getElementById('elName'))">
         <br>
         <select name="elName" id="elName" multiple="multiple" size="1" onChange="jsObj.checkSelected()">
              <option value="0"> - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - </option>
         </select>
    </form>Note that the "visibility:hidden" part of the button style is set to "visible" when at least one option is selected
    Note that "jsObj" relates to a java script object that has been created when the web app starts ( The .js file is included in the .jsp <head> tag )
    The following code is taken from the file: "jsObj.js"
    jsObj = new jsObj();
    function jsObj() {
    //=================================================
         this.addOptions = function(url, elName) {
              var theForm = document.getElementById('formMain');
              if (window.XMLHttpRequest) { // code for IE7+, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari
                   xmlhttp=new XMLHttpRequest();
              } else { // code for IE6, IE5
                   xmlhttp=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
              url += this.buildQueryString(theForm.name);
              xmlhttp.open("POST",url,true);
              xmlhttp.send(null);
              xmlhttp.onreadystatechange=function() {
                   if(xmlhttp.readyState==4) { // 4 = The request is complete
                        alert(xmlhttp.responseText);
    //=================================================
    this.buildQueryString = function(formName) {
              var theForm = document.forms[formName];
              var qs = '';
              for (var i=0; i<theForm.elements.length; i++) {
                   if (theForm.elements.name!='') {
                        qs+=(qs=='')? '?' : '&';
                        qs+=theForm.elements[i].name+'='+escape(theForm.elements[i].value);
              return qs;
         //=================================================
    }And this is a code snippet from the "servletName" servlet:public synchronized void doGet(HttpServletRequest request,
              HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException,IOException {
              PrintWriter out = null;
              try {
                   response.setContentType("text/html");
                   out = response.getWriter();
                   String output = "";
                   String[] values = request.getParameterValues("elName");
                   for(String s : values) {
                        output += s + ":";
                   output = output.substring(0, output.length()-1); // cut off last delimitor
                   out.println(output);
                   } catch (Exception e) {
         }So anyway, everthing compiles / works, except for the fact that I'm only getting back the first selected <option> in the 'elName' <select> tag whenever I select multiple options

  • Set Default Value of Multi-select list item

    I have a multi-select list item I want to default the value of to '%' (which is really '%null%') and have it selected. I tried setting default value of item, but it doesn't take '%null%'. I also tried a computation with a static of
    :P507_ITEM := '%null%'; How do you get the default value set and selected?

    Hi
    Shijesh is right, you need to change your null return value and use that return value as your default. Try and use something of the same datatype as your real return values if you plan to use '%' to display all as it will make your queries simpler. eg.
    Company A returns 1
    Company B return 2
    % returns 0
    Then your query would be...
    SELECT ...
    FROM ...
    WHERE company_id = DECODE(:P_COMPANY,1,1,2,2,0,company_id)
    Hope this makes sense.
    Cheers

  • How to get the values returned by a function in a drop down?

    Hi All,
    Can anyone please help in getting the values returned by a function into a drop down? I have a java class file where in i have written a function called getWeeks() which give all the week dates and i want to display these week dates in a drop down box in a JSP page.
    Please help me in this regard.
    Thanks in Advance!!
    Lakshman.

    Hi Lakshman,
    the following code can help you do what you want :
    <hbj:dropdownListBox id="calendar" tooltip="Calendar" selection="<%= selected %>">
    <%
    String[] weeks = myObjectBean.getWeeks();
    for (int i = 0; i < weeks.length; i++) {
    %>
         <hbj:listBoxItem key="<%= i %>" value="<%= weeks<i> %>"/>
    <%
    %>
    </hbj: dropdownListBox>
    The <%= selected %> snippet allows you to pre-select one of the options (provided that the variable 'selected' is equal to one of the listBoxItem keys).
    You can also add onSelect to the tag (e.g. = "setSelectedItem"). It corresponds to a method in the corresponding JSPDynPage class. This means that when you select another item in the dropdown list, the method in your Java class is performed (allowing you to save the selected value and performing actions with it)
    I hope this helped you enough,
    kind regards,
    Frederic
    Edited seven times by: Frederic Taes on Nov 5, 2008 11:24 AM -> the onSelect element was in the hbj tag and in the text with "='setSelectedItem'" next to it and when I tried to post my message, I got a 501 error all the time ! Seems like a SDN bug to me ...

  • Null values returned when using request.getParameters(

    I have a html form which allows the user to choose options and select a file to upload. When I use method=Post I get null values returned. When I use method=Get I get my parameter values fine.. but I get an error.
    "Posted content type isn't multipart/form-data"
    I would like to know why I am getting null values returned when using Post. I am using the following to get the values from the name=value passed to the servlet.
    String strIndustry = request.getParameter("frmIndustry");
              String strCompany = request.getParameter("frmCompany");
              String strCollabType = request.getParameter("frmCollaboration");

    Or perhaps I am using oreilly MultipartRequest incorrectly??? but I copied it directly from another discussion.. ???

    taybon:
    you could do it like this. in this case, you submit your form with the parameters (industry, company, collaboration), and upload your file at the same time. and in the target servlet, you can build your MultipartRequest object like this:
    MultipartRequest multi = new MultipartRequest(request, temp_location, 50 * 1024);where variable temp_location stands for a temporatory diretory for file uploading.
    and then you get your parameters, so you can build the directory with them. and after that, you can move your file to that directory using File.renameTo();
    but as i've suggested in my previous posting, i just recommend you upload your file in a separate form. and then you can perform an oridianry doPost form submit with those parameters. or you may have problems with the file uploading. (this is just my personal experiences with Multipart).
    there is one other thing i'd like to mention, file.renameTo() won't work if you need to move files to a network drive in windows. it won't work if you move files across file systems in unix.

  • How to default a value in a select list

    Hi
    I have an item on the page which is displayed as a select list.
    The select list has an lov that returns 3 values as follows:
    ACAD1M
    ACAD2H
    ACAD3T
    the sql for this lov is as follows:
    select CAL_TYPE d,cal_type r
    from igs_ca_type
    where s_cal_cat='ACADEMIC'
    It needs to return the values in the order as shown above, however if the user does not select anything from the select list, I want it to default to the value in the middle of the list(ACAD2H)
    I tried using default on the item but I could not get this to work.
    Could someone explain how I can get the select list in HTMLDB to default to the value that I want regardless of which position it appears in the select list it always seems to default to the value at the top of the list.

    Hello Kay,
    A default value for a select list must be set to a legitimate returned value from the select list LOV query.
    The default value should be set in the item "Default" section. In the "Default Value" field you should enter your query – in a form of a PL/SQL Function Body – and set the "Default Value Type" field accordingly.
    The following is an example of code I'm using to set the default value of a select list to be the first displayed option (set by the user, and recorded in the dispord column):
    declare
      l_sno  number;
    begin
      select sno
      into l_sno
      from mis_mess_users
      where dispord = (select min(dispord)
                     from mis_mess_users);
      return l_sno;
    end;Using the same principle, you can use any query that will give you the result you need.
    Regards,
    Arie.

  • A problem to get the value of a selected cell

    Hi all,
    I am trying to get the value of a cell in JTable. The problem that I have is ListSelectionListener only listens if the selection changes(valueChanged method).
    It means that if I select apple then rum, only rowSelectionModel is triggered, which means I do not get the index of the column from selectionModel of ColumnModel.
    apple orange plum
    rum sky blue
    This is a piece of code from JTable tutorial that I modified by adding
    selRow and selCol variables to keep track of the location so that I can get the value of the selected cell.
    Thank you.
    if (ALLOW_ROW_SELECTION) { // true by default
    ListSelectionModel rowSM = table.getSelectionModel();
    rowSM.addListSelectionListener(new ListSelectionListener() {
    public void valueChanged(ListSelectionEvent e) {
    if (e.getValueIsAdjusting()) return;
    ListSelectionModel lsm = (ListSelectionModel)e.getSource();
    if (lsm.isSelectionEmpty()) {
    System.out.println("No rows are selected.");
    } else {
    int selectedRow = lsm.getMinSelectionIndex();
    selRow = selectedRow;
    System.out.println("Row " + selectedRow + " is now selected.");
    else {
    table.setRowSelectionAllowed(false);
    if (ALLOW_COLUMN_SELECTION) { // false by default
    if (ALLOW_ROW_SELECTION) {
    table.setCellSelectionEnabled(true);
    table.setColumnSelectionAllowed(true);
    ListSelectionModel colSM = table.getColumnModel().getSelectionModel();
    colSM.addListSelectionListener(new ListSelectionListener() {
    public void valueChanged(ListSelectionEvent e) {
    //Ignore extra messages.
    if (e.getValueIsAdjusting()) return;
    ListSelectionModel lsm = (ListSelectionModel)e.getSource();
    if (lsm.isSelectionEmpty()) {
    System.out.println("No columns are selected.");
    } else {
    int selectedCol = lsm.getMinSelectionIndex();
    selCol = selectedCol;
    System.out.println("Column " + selCol + " is now selected.");
    System.out.println("Row " + selRow + " is now selected.");
    javax.swing.table.TableModel model = table.getModel();
    // I get the value here
    System.out.println("Value: "+model.getValueAt(selRow,selCol));
    }

    maybe you can try with :
    table.getSelectedColumn()
    table.getSelectedRow()
    :)

  • Returning a selection from a list or table

    I'm looking for a nice way to present the selcted value of a JList or a JTable to the rest of the program. So far the only thing I know to do is make the selection a static variable of the class implementing the ListSelectionListener interface. For instance, in the code below, I would make the variable rowNum a static variable, accessible from outside. But OO says to make it a method like public int getSelection(){return rowNum}i've had difficulty extracting the selection and making it available where it is really needed, in the business logic of the program. Any comments would be appreciated.class TablePanel extends JPanel
      ConnectionHandler ch;
      static TheTableModel tm;
      ListSelectionHandler selector;
      TablePanel(ConnectionHandler ch)
        this.ch = ch;
        tm = new TheTableModel();
        JTable jt = new JTable(tm);
        //selection mechanics
        jt.setPreferredScrollableViewportSize(new Dimension(900,200));
        ListSelectionModel rowSM = jt.getSelectionModel();
        selector = new ListSelectionHandler();
        rowSM.addListSelectionListener(selector);
        jt.setSelectionMode(ListSelectionModel.SINGLE_SELECTION);
        //set column widths
        TableColumn column = null;
        for (int i = 0; i<9;i++)
          column = jt.getColumnModel().getColumn(i);
          if(i==0) column.setPreferredWidth(40);
          column.setPreferredWidth(100);
        //display
        JScrollPane jsp = new JScrollPane(jt);
        add(jsp);
    class ListSelectionHandler implements ListSelectionListener
      public void valueChanged(ListSelectionEvent e)
        ListSelectionModel lsm = (ListSelectionModel)e.getSource();
        if(lsm.isSelectionEmpty()) return;
        int rowNum = lsm.getMinSelectionIndex();
        if(!e.getValueIsAdjusting())
          System.out.println(rowNum +" =rowNum");
    }

    You could make it a method like
    public int getSelection() {
       return table.getSelectedRow();
    }That would work fine provided 'table' is kept as an instance variable. As far as I can see, there's no need for a static variable here. If you wanted to return different information, you could do it the same way (eg, returning the selected value, instead of the row, etc.)

  • The value returned from the load function is not of type numeric  errors after migration to Coldfusion 11

    I am currently testing our website with CF11. It is currently working with CF8 however after migrating it to a new server running CF11 I have encountered the following error.

  • How to select active Oracle ODBC Driver programmatically?

    Hi,
    My application creates ODBC DSN to connect with Oracle 10g database server. I need to find out Oracle Driver installed on the system programmatically. I am trying to read KEY_<PRODUCT NUMBER> registry key and eventually searching ORACLE_HOME value. This helps me in searching Oracle Driver in ODBCINST.INI registry key. (Oracle in OraDb10g_home1)
    If multiple Oracle clients are installed on the same system, multiple KEY_<PRODUCT NUMBER> registry keys and oracle drivers would be available. I am not sure which and how to select the current active oracle driver.
    Oracle in OraDb10g_home1
    Oracle in OraDb10g_home2
    Can anybody help me out? Can I use inventory file (inventory.xml) to determince current active home directory? Reading PATH environment variable to identity active home directory would be tedious.

    Please look at following thread for answer.
