Read 32kHz data using 8451

I need to read 32kHz data coming in synchronization with 32kHz clock. Can I use 2 digital i/o lines of 8451 and poll continuously to be able to read it? Is there a better way of reading data? I have LabVIEW 8.5.
Any comments or ideas welcome.
Thank you.

Hi,
You will not be able to use the NI-8451 for this application since it is software timed.
You need a Data Acquisition card that would be able to do hardware timing.
Please include an email address or phone number if you'd like me to have your territory rep. contact you to help you pick a module out of the huge variety of DAQ cards that NI sells.
What form factor do you prefer?  (PCI is the most economical way to go.)

  • Is it possible to read digital data using an external clock (PCI-6259 M)?

    I’m using a NI PCI-6259 M Series card and trying to write my program in VC++6.0 using the functions in the DAQmx driver.
    Question1: Not all functions listed in the NI-DAQmx C Reference Help seems to be supported by my NI-card, where can I find information about which of the functions that are supported?
    Question2: I want to read data from a device that clock out data on the falling edge of a clock signal. The clock signal and the data signal are routed to two DIO terminals on the NI-card. The question is if it is possible to read data using the clock as a sample clock? See two code examples below that doesn’t work. In both cases 10 samples are read at once, even if the external clock is not present.
    Example 1
    // Create tasks
    Status = DAQmxCreateTask("", &m_ReadTrimTask);
    // Set up read task
    status = DAQmxCreateDIChan(m_ReadTrimTask, "Dev1/port2/line0", "", DAQmx_Val_ChanPerLine);
    status = DAQmxCfgChangeDetectionTiming(m_ReadTrimTask,"Dev1/port2/line6","Dev1/port2/line6",DAQmx_Val_FiniteSamps, 10);
    // Read data
    int32 sampsPerChanRead, numBytesPerSamp;
    status = DAQmxReadDigitalLines(m_ReadTrimTask, 10, 10.0, DAQmx_Val_GroupByChannel, result, 10, &sampsPerChanRead, &numBytesPerSamp ,NULL);

    // Set up read task

    status = DAQmxSetSampTimingType(m_ReadTrimTask, DAQmx_Val_SampClk);
    status = DAQmxSetSampClkRate(m_ReadTrimTask, 1000.0);
    status = DAQmxSetSampClkActiveEdge(m_ReadTrimTask, DAQmx_Val_Falling);

    Hello Magnus,
    Thank you for contacting National Instruments.
    "Question1: Not all functions listed in the NI-DAQmx C Reference Help seems to be supported by my NI-card, where can I find information about which of the functions that are supported?"
    The best place to look for this information would be the M Series Help Manual. There you can find the features of your PCI-6259 and what operations it supports.
    "Question2: I want to read data from a device that clock out data on the falling edge of a clock signal. The clock signal and the data signal are routed to two DIO terminals on the NI-card. Look at the "ContReadDigChan-ExtClk_Fn.c" example project which ships with the NI-DAQ driver. This is located at: C:\Program Files\National Instruments\NI-DAQ\Examples\DAQmx ANSI C\Digital\Read Values\Cont Read Dig Chan-Ext Clk.
    You will have to make some minor modifications to convert this to a finite acquisition, but that is simply a matter of changing the "sampleMode" parameter of the DAQmxCfgSampClkTiming() function. You will also have to route your clock signal to a PFI line and specify which line in your code.
    I hope this helps.

  • Writing the file using Write to SGL and reading the data using Read from SGL

    Hello Sir, I have a problem using the Write to SGL VI. When I am trying to write the captured data using DAQ board to a SGL file, I am unable to store the data as desired. There might be some problem with the VI which I am using to write the data to SGL file. I am not able to figure out the minor problem I am facing.  I am attaching a zip file which contains five files.
    1)      Acquire_Current_Binary_Exp.vi -> This is the VI which I used to store my data using Write to SGL file.
    2)      Retrive_BINARY_Data.vi -> This is the VI which I used to Read from SGL file and plot it
    3)      Binary_Capture -> This is the captured data using (1) which can be plotted using (2) and what I observed is the plot is different and also the time scare is not as expected.
    4)      Unexpected_Graph.png is the unexpected graph when I am using Write to SGL and Read from SGL to store and retrieve the data.
    5)      Expected_Graph.png -> This is the expected data format I supposed to get. I have obtained this plot when I have used write to LVM and read from LVM file to store and retrieve the data.
    I tried a lot modifying the sub VI’s but it doesn’t work for me. What I think is I am doing some mistake while I am writing the data to SGL and Reading the data from SGL. Also, I don’t know the reason why my graph is not like (5) rather I am getting something like its in (4). Its totally different. You can also observe the difference between the time scale of (4) and (5).

    The binary data file has no time axis information, it is pure y data. Only the LVM file contains information about t(0) and dt. Since you throw away this information before saving to the binary file, it cannot be retrieved.
    Did you try wiring a 2 as suggested?

  • Read Purchase data using Report painter with CCSS structure

    Hi
    I'm triying to set-up a simple Budget by material procedure using Rosurces defined as material and KP06 to plan Qty and Values.
    All works fine.
    Later I need to write a report for Compare Planned vaues and Effective values at material (resource) level.
    Unfortunately resource can be used only for planning, so none Effective values is available in CO.
    I thought to write a Report using Report painter and library 1VK (CCSS structure) for planned values and import from a LIS table the effective values (Ordered, Invoiced) directly from Puirchasing environment.
    Is it possible by using exit or other tools, import LIS data into a CO Report painter program ???
    Thanks in advanec for your help.

    I try to specify better my need.
    I've defined using report painter a  Z report using Report Painter.
    Inside teh new Report, I can use a Customer key-figure which does'nt exist in the CCSS structure.
    Is there any solution to Read data from other SAP tables and use these info into the report.
    I'm not very frioendly with Set, Key-figures and variables, and I'd like to undestand if my needs can be solved using Report-painter.

  • Reading form data using javascript

    Hello.
    I want to go over the data received from the context to the PDF file using JavaScript, without binding it to any elements on the form.
    How can I access the data?
    I've tried using xfa.data or xfa.dataset, but didn't manage to get to it.
    How can it be done?
    Thanks.

    The following applies if it's a PDF generated from ABAP :
    Let's say a simple type parameter from context is named EBELN. To get it from javascript, you must use :
    $data.data.EBELN.value
    or
    $record.EBELN.value
    (it's the same)
    For example, to display the value, use:
    xfa.host.messageBox( $data.data.EBELN.value );

  • How to read data using SQLGetData from a block, forward-only cursor (ODBC)

    Hi there.  I am trying to read data a small number of rows of data from either a Microsoft Access or Microsoft SQL Server (whichever is being used) as quickly as possible.  I have connected to the database using the ODBC API's and have run a select
    statement using a forward-only, read-only cursor.  I can use either SQLFetch or SQLExtendedFetch (with a rowset size of 1) to retrieve each successive row and then use SQLGetData to retrieve the data from each column into my local variables.  This
    all works fine.
    My goal is to see if I can improve performance incrementally by using SQLExtendedFetch with a rowset size greater than 1 (block cursor).  However, I cannot figure out how to move to the first of the rowset returned so that I can call SQLGetData to retrieve
    each column.  If I were using a cursor type that was not forward-only, I would use SQLSetPos to do this.  However, using those other cursor types are slower and the whole point of the exercise is to see how fast I can read this data.  I can
    successfully read the data using a block forward only cursor if I bind each column to an array in advance of the call to SQLExtendedFetch.  However, that has several drawbacks and is documented to be slower for small numbers of rows.  I really
    want to see what kind of speed I can achieve using a block, forward-only, read-only cursor using SQLGetData to get each column.
    Here is the test stub that I created:
    ' Create a SELECT statement to retrieve the entire collection.
    selectString = "SELECT [Year] FROM REAssessmentRolls"
    ' Create a result set using the existing read/write connection. The read/write connection is used rather than
    ' the read-only connection because it will reflect the most recent changes made to the database by this running
    ' instance of the application without having to call RefreshReadCache.
    If (clsODBCDatabase.HandleDbcError(SQLAllocStmt(gDatabase.ReadWriteDbc, selectStmt), gDatabase.ReadWriteDbc, errorBoxTitle) <> enumODBCSQLAPIResult.SQL_SUCCESS) Then
    GoTo LoadExit
    End If
    Call clsODBCDatabase.HandleStmtError(SQLSetStmtOption(selectStmt, SQL_CONCURRENCY, SQL_CONCUR_READ_ONLY), selectStmt, errorBoxTitle)
    Call clsODBCDatabase.HandleStmtError(SQLSetStmtOption(selectStmt, SQL_CURSOR_TYPE, SQL_CURSOR_FORWARD_ONLY), selectStmt, errorBoxTitle)
    Call clsODBCDatabase.HandleStmtError(SQLSetStmtOption(selectStmt, SQL_ROWSET_SIZE, MAX_ROWSET_SIZE), selectStmt, errorBoxTitle)
    If (clsODBCDatabase.HandleStmtError(SQLExecDirect(selectStmt, selectString, Len(selectString)), selectStmt, errorBoxTitle) <> enumODBCSQLAPIResult.SQL_SUCCESS) Then
    GoTo LoadExit
    End If
    ' Cursor through result set. Each time we fetch data we get a SET of rows.
    sqlResult = clsODBCDatabase.HandleStmtError(SQLExtendedFetch(selectStmt, SQL_FETCH_NEXT, 0, rowsFetched, rowStatus(0)), selectStmt, errorBoxTitle)
    Do While (sqlResult = enumODBCSQLAPIResult.SQL_SUCCESS)
    ' Read all rows in the row set
    For row = 1 To rowsFetched
    If rowStatus(row - 1) = SQL_ROW_SUCCESS Then
    sqlResult = clsODBCDatabase.HandleStmtError(SQLSetPos(selectStmt, row, SQL_POSITION, SQL_LOCK_NO_CHANGE), selectStmt, errorBoxTitle)
    Call clsODBCDatabase.SQLGetShortField(selectStmt, 1, assessmentRollYear(row - 1))
    Console.WriteLine(assessmentRollYear(row - 1).ToString)
    End If
    Next
    ' If the rowset we just retrieved contains the maximum number of rows allowed, there could be more data.
    If rowsFetched = MAX_ROWSET_SIZE Then ' there could be more data
    sqlResult = clsODBCDatabase.HandleStmtError(SQLExtendedFetch(selectStmt, SQL_FETCH_NEXT, 0, rowsFetched, rowStatus(0)), selectStmt, errorBoxTitle)
    Else
    Exit Do ' no more rowsets
    End If
    Loop ' Do While (sqlResult = enumODBCSQLAPIResult.SQL_SUCCESS)
    The test fails on the call to SQLSetPos.  The error message I get is "Invalid cursor position; no keyset defined".  I have tried passing SET_POSITION and also SET_REFRESH.  Same error.  There has to be a way to do this!
    Thank you for your help!

  • How to read XML data stored in CLOB in Concurrent prog Output

    Hi All,
    I'm trying to Generate the XML Data as concurrent Program output. I have a PL/SQL package which generated the XML data by using SQL/XML functions. I'm storing the generated XML data in a CLOB variable. But when i try to read the data using fnd_file.put_line(fnd_file.OUTPUT,XML_Data) it doesn't display data more than 32767 bytes.
    Please help me out to understand what could be done to read the data in chunks. I have tried many logic's to print chunks of data but the output tags are either chopped off and errors out saying Tag not found.
    My logic is as below:
    v_handler:= DBMS_XMLGEN.newContext(v_xml_query);
    --Sets NULL handling options
    DBMS_XMLGen.SetNullHandling(v_handler, dbms_xmlgen.EMPTY_TAG ) ;
    --Set special character handling
    DBMS_XMLGEN.setConvertSpecialChars(v_handler, TRUE);
    -- Specified whether to use an XML attribute to indicate NULLness of particular entity in the XML document
    DBMS_XMLGen.useNullAttributeIndicator(v_handler,TRUE);
    -- set Checking invalid chars
    DBMS_XMLGEN.setCheckInvalidChars(v_handler, TRUE);
    -- get the xml data as required
    v_xml_data:= DBMS_XMLGEN.getXMLtype(v_handler);
    SELECT XMLROOT(v_xml_data.extract('/*'),VERSION '1.0').getClobVal() into v_new_xml_Data from dual;
    -- get the length of the xml generated
    v_clob_len := dbms_lob.getlength(v_new_xml_Data);
    FND_FILE.PUT_LINE(FND_FILE.LOG,'The Clob length is :'|| v_clob_len);
    -- logic to process string more than 32767 Processing by each character
    v_offset :=1;
    while (v_offset <= v_clob_len)
    LOOP
    v_char := dbms_lob.substr(v_new_xml_Data, 1, v_offset);
    IF (v_char = CHR(10))
    then
    fnd_file.new_line(fnd_file.output, 1);
    else
    fnd_file.put(fnd_file.output, v_char);
    end if;
    v_offset := v_offset + 1;
    END LOOP;
    FND_FILE.PUT_LINE(FND_FILE.LOG,'The offset is :'|| v_offset);
    FND_FILE.NEW_LINE(FND_FILE.OUTPUT, 1);
    THe above logic is for character by character which is a performance burden? Please let me know if there is any other work around for this

    Hi,
    Thanks for Replying. I have refered http://blog.oraclecontractors.com/?p=69 and then i added that piece of code. Basically, i'm trying to generate a report using XML publisher. To generate the XML data i'm writing a pl/sql package with SQl/XML functions. DBMS_XMLGEN would help me convert the XML Data as is. When the concurrent program runs this XML data will merge with RTF layout and generate required report. I'm able to generate the Report for data less then 32767 bytes. More than the limit i need to pass chunks of XML data to read as output. That's the reason i'm using fnd_file.output. But it reads only 32767 size at a time.
    WHen i use the given logic, it works perfectly fine, but it loops for each character, for example if you have 30,000 characters it loops the same, which is peformance burden.
    So i tried to write the logic of chunks but still i get the error that XML tag is not found or missing. I'm hoping this is very common issue, but after all my trails, i didn't find the right solution.
    the other logic i tried was :
    v_new_xml_data varchar2(32767)
    v_iterations := CEIL(v_clob_len/v_chunk_length); -- v_chunk_length is 32767 and v_clob_length is length of the XML data stored inthe clob variable
    For i in 0..v_iterations
    LOOP
    FND_FILE.put_line (fnd_file.log,'the loops v_pos :'||i||' and v_clob_length :'||v_clob_len);
    v_new_xml_data := DBMS_LOB.SUBSTR ( V_XML_DATA,v_chunk_length,(i*v_chunk_length)+1);
    FND_FILE.PUT_LINE (FND_FILE.OUTPUT,v_new_xml_data); -- read the output for every 32767 chunks
    FND_FILE.PUT_LINE(FND_FILE.LOG, 'Chunk length is :'||((i*v_chunk_length)+1));
    END LOOP;
    FND_FILE.put_line (fnd_file.log,'out of loop');
    FND_FILE.put_line (fnd_file.log,'length of new xml is '||v_clob_len);
    Please, let me know if you need Further clarifications on the same.

    NI-CAN Channel API is not able to deal with Multi frame messages, so you would need to use the NI-CAN Frame API to read the Multi frame message and do the conversion into physical values on your own.

    You need to know what format the data is in. Without that it's pointless trying to continue.
    What you'll need to do is read all the data from the InputStream into memory and then decompress it according to whatever compression method has been used. You can use the following code to grab all the data, but until you know exactly what format your data is, you're on your own.
    try {
    InputStream is = socket.getInputStream();
    ByteArrayOutputStream baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
    while(is.available()>0) {
    baos.write(is.read());
    byte[] data = baos.toByteArray();
    } catch( IOException e ) { e.printStackTrace(); }
