Read file from presentation server (like GUI_UPLOAD)

Hi,
I need to read a txt file from local pc path in CRM WEB UI runtime. The path and the filename are already known, so I don´t need the control provided by thtmlb:fileUpload control, which automatically adds a u2018Browseu2019 button. I need to read this file without any additional controls or buttons.
I tried with RZL_READ_FILE, but doesn´t work with local files, only with application server files.
As you all know, GUI_UPLOAD doesn´t work in WEB UI...I need exactly something like that!
Any help or suggestion wil be appreciated.

Hi Federico,
When it comes to web browser (web ui) file upload cannot be done as it is done in SAP GUI. There is a mechanism called 'Form-based File Upload in HTML' through which file is uploaded from web browser to the server, at the back end this is what is used. So you have to use a fileUpload tag to upload a file from web browser.
As an alternative solution, you can use Javascript and activexobjects to upload files. I have developed a wiki which explains excel upload using activexobjects and javascript.

The issue is that, when you schedule a program as background job runs on application server not on local pc for that program use the application server resurces and its not possible to read files from pc. You can find a lot of answers in forum for this

Hi Arbind,
Just realize... when you run it in foreground, you have a foreground to capture the file location. so it runs fine..
but when you are running it in background, there is no foreground to check that is no gui present... how can it check where the C:\.... location is??
no need of reading any oss note... just see.. the name is cl_GUI_FRONTEND_service.. its only for front end..
u need open dataset, read dataset, close dataset kind of things while running in background. or RFCs to read the file... (search SDN).

How to search file from presentation server

In a ABAP program i want to display a dialog box which will help me to find out any file from presentation server.That dialog box should be display after clicking on parameter on selection screen.Parameter is a simple variable,not a field from any internal table. so i can not use function module F4IF_INT_TABLE_VALUE_REQUEST
Please suggest me any function module which will satisfy my requirement.

Presently I have to write a program which reads files from the application server dynamically. This program will be scheduled in the background with the frequency of half an hour.

How can i put selection screen in FM and read the file?or how can i proceed with the solution?

Hi Umesh,
My understanding on your requirement is to read a file from pres. server and pass the data to an IDoc function module. Am I correct?
If this is the case then you can create a report which picks up the file from pres. server and then read data from the file and pass it to the parameters of the required function module.

What happened?
    At the conversion of a text from codepage '4110' to codepage '4102':
    - a character was found that cannot be displayed in one of the two
    codepages;
    - or it was detected that this conversion is not supported
    The running ABAP program 'ZHDI_LOMM_VEHI_MAT_MASS_CREATE' had to be terminated
     as the conversion
    would have produced incorrect data.
    The number of characters that could not be displayed (and therefore not
    be converted), is 449. If this number is 0, the second error case, as
    mentioned above, has occurred.
Error analysis
    An exception occurred that is explained in detail below.
    The exception, which is assigned to class 'CX_SY_CONVERSION_CODEPAGE', was not
     caught in
    procedure "F_DATA_UPLOAD" "(FORM)", nor was it propagated by a RAISING clause.
    Since the caller of the procedure could not have anticipated that the
    exception would occur, the current program is terminated.
    The reason for the exception is:
    Characters are always displayed in only a certain codepage. Many
    codepages only define a limited set of characters. If a text from a
    codepage should be converted into another codepage, and if this text
    contains characters that are not defined in one of the two codepages, a
    conversion error occurs.
    Moreover, a conversion error can occur if one of the needed codepages
    '4110' or '4102' is not known to the system.
    If the conversion error occurred at read or write of screen, the file
    name was '/usr/sap/interfaces/conversion/pioneer/ddm/data/test_data1.xls'.

If I am not wrong you are working on a Unicode enabled system. That is why this error is coming.

Upload a set of files from presentation server to app server.

I need an urgent help.
I know how to use GUI_UPLOAD fm for simple file uploading.
However, my requirement is that in my report program(on selection screen) I give the source directory(presentation server) and the target directory
(application server). The report has to get all the files from the presentation server (from this source directory) and has to upload each file to the application server in the target directory.
Could anyone please help me in this?
It would be very helpful if anyone can put the code / standard example if there is any mechanism in ABAP to get the set of files from the presentation server, given the directory name.

Read file from ftp SERVER(NON SAP) into an internal table

Hi all,
I need to read the data from an excel file which was uploaded from ftp (i.e different server) into an SAP internal table by using FTP connections.
Actually i am already getting text file data successfully.
But only when reading in excel file that is presented in JDA server.
Facing problem to read excel file data from JDA server.
Pls help me.
How can we go ahead ?

I want to read a file from a ftp server. I can do it by OpenStream() and read the file contents as a stream. But the ftp account is set as "PASSIVE Mode", so how to set it to passive mode and access the file ? Any thoughts?

Thanks for your speedy response. How to set the PASV parameter, with the InputStream reader. Currently I am reading a file that is active thru. flg. steps.
InputStream is = new URL("url").openStream();
BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(is));
Then, I am writing the stream contents to a file. So how to set up the PASV parameter?
