Read numbers from a .txt file and display them in a graph

How can I get Labview 7 to read from a txt. file containing a lot of
coloumns with different datas? There`s only two of the coloumns that are
interesting to me, the first, that contains the time of the measuring, and
one in the middle, that contains the measured temperatures. I want Labview
to read this datas and display them graphicly.
Thanks from Stale

Here's one way.
You can also use the help-> find examples and search for "text".

    The problem is in the delimiters in your text file. By default, Read From Spreadsheet File.vi expects a tab delimited file. You can specify a delimiter (like a space), but Read From Spreadsheet File.vi has a problem with repeated delimiters: if you specify a single space as a delimiter and Read From Spreadsheet File.vi finds two spaces back-to-back, it stops reading that line. Your file (as I got it from your earlier post) is delimited by 4 spaces.
    Here are some of your choices to fix your problem.
    1. Change the source file to a tab delimited file. Your VI will then run as is.
    2. Change the source file to be delimited by a single space (rather than 4), then wire a string constant containing one space to the delimiter input of Read From Spreadsheet File.vi.
    3. Wire a string constant containing 4 spaces to the delimiter input of Read From Spreadsheet File.vi. Then your text file will run as is.
    Depending on where your text file comes from (see more comments below), I'd vote for choice 1: a tab delimited text file. It's the most common text output of spreadsheet programs.
    Comments for choices 1 and 2: Where does the text file come from? Is it automatically generated or manually generated? Will it be generated multiple times or just once? If it's manually generated or generated just once, you can use any text editor to change 4 spaces to a tab or to a single space. Note: if you want to change it to a tab delimited file, you can't enter a tab directly into a box in the search & replace dialog of many programs like notepad, but you can do a cut and paste. Before you start your search and replace (just in the text window of the editor), press tab. A tab character will be entered. Press Shift-LeftArrow (not Backspace) to highlight the tab character. Press Ctrl-X to cut the tab character. Start your search and replace (Ctrl-H in notepad in Windows 2000). Click into the Find What box. Enter four spaces. Click into the Replace With box. Press Ctrl-V to paste the tab character. And another thing: older versions of notepad don't have search and replace. Use any editor or word processor that does.

  • Reading integers from a .txt file and computing means

    I have a program that uses for loops to produce ten integers (1-10) are returns the average mean, geometric mean, and harmonic mean.
    Now i need to change this program to read integers from a .txt file and return the same data. Basically i need to change my for statements that are incrementing to read the text file.
    Thanks guys.

    You haven't asked a question. You haven't posted code. What are you expecting here?
    But I guess I'll take a stab at it and say you should look at the Scanner class

    or BufferedReader

    It's not possible to read from a file without using classes from the core API*. You'll have to get clarification from your instructor as to which classes are and are not allowed.

    Sorry I'm just beginning coding and I'm still a noob. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

    Ok, so if I'm following this correctly you should be able to just loop through all of the files in that folder whose file name matches the pattern and then read the first 22 lines, recording only the first and the last.
    Exactly how you store the animal data probably depends on how you are going to display it and what else you are going to do with it.  Is there anything other than name and cage number that should be associated with each animal?
    You might want to make a dataset with a datatable to describe the animal, or you might write a class, or you might just use something generic like a Tuple.  Here's a simple class example:
    Public Class Animal
    Public Property Name As String
    Public Property Cage As String
    Public Overrides Function ToString() As String
    Return String.Format("{0} - {1}", Name, Cage)
    End Function
    End Class
    With that you can use a routine like the following to loop through all of the files and read each one:
    Dim animals As New List(Of Animal)
    Dim folderPath As String = "E:\Furry Friends Animal Shelter Solution\Furry Friends Animal Shelter\"
    For Each filePath As String In System.IO.Directory.GetFiles(folderPath, "Report Q?.txt")
    Using reader As New System.IO.StreamReader(filePath)
    Dim lineIndex As Integer = 0
    Dim currentAnimal As New Animal
    While Not reader.EndOfStream
    Dim line As String = reader.ReadLine
    If lineIndex = 0 Then
    currentAnimal.Name = line
    ElseIf lineIndex = 22 Then
    currentAnimal.Cage = line
    Exit While
    End If
    lineIndex += 1
    End While
    animals.Add(currentAnimal)
    End Using
    Next
    'do something to display the animals list
    Then you might bind the animals list to a ListBox, or loop through the list and populate a ListView.  If you decided to fill a datatable instead of making Animal instances, then you might bind the resulting table to a DataGridView.
    There are lots of options depending on what you want and what all you need to do.

  • Reading from a text file and displaying the contents with in a frame

    Hi All,
    I am trying to read some data from a text file and display it on a AWT Frame. The contents of the text file are as follows:
    pcode1,pname1,price1,sname1,
    pcode2,pname2,price2,sname1,
    I am writing a method to read the contents from a text file and store them into a string by using FileInputStream and InputStreamReader.
    Now I am dividing the string(which has the contents of the text file) into tokens using the StringTokenizer class. The method is as show below
    void ReadTextFile()
                        FileInputStream fis=new FileInputStream(new File("nieman.txt"));
                         InputStreamReader isr=new InputStreamReader(fis);
                         char[] buf=new char[1024];
                         isr.read(buf,0,1024);
                         fstr=new String(buf);
                         String Tokenizer st=new StringTokenizer(fstr,",");
                         while(st.hasMoreTokens())
                                          pcode1=st.nextToken();
                               pname1=st.nextToken();
              price1=st.nextToken();
                              sname1=st.nextToken();
         } //close of while loop
                    } //close of methodHere goes my problem: I am unable to display the values of pcode1,pname1,price1,sname1 when I am trying to access them from outside the ReadTextFile method as they are storing "null" values . I want to create a persistent string variable so that I can access the contents of the string variable from anywhere with in the java file. Please provide your comments for this problem as early as possible.
    Thanks in advance.

    If pcode1,pname1,price1,sname1 are global variables, which I assume they are, then simply put the word static in front of them. That way, any class in your file can access those values by simply using this notation:
    MyClassName.pcode1;
    MyClassName.pname1;
    MyClassName.price1;
    MyClassName.sname1

    There are so many things wrong with this VI, I'm not even sure where to start.
    Hard-coding paths that point to your user folder on the block diagram. What if somebody else tries to run it? They'll get an error. What if somebody tries to run this on Windows 7? They'll get an error. What if somebody tries to run this on a Mac or Linux? They'll get an error.
    Not using Read From Spreadsheet File.
    Use of local variables to populate an array.
    Cannot insert values into an empty array.
    What if there's a line missing from the text file? Now your data will not line up. Your case structure does handle this.
    Also, how does this answer the poster's question?

  • How would you read in each line of data and display them to message box?

    How would you read in each line of data from the _.txt file_ and display the whole data using an information-type message box?
    I know how to display each line of the .txt file data, but I do not know how to display the whole thing.
    Here is how I did to display each line of data using the message box:
    import javax.swing.JOptionPane;          // Needed for the JOptionPane class
    import java.io.*;                         // Needed for file classes
    public class problem3
         public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException
              String filename;          // Needed to read the file
              String categories;          // Needed to read the categories
              // Get the filename.
              filename = JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Enter the filname.");
              // Open the file.
              FileReader freader = new FileReader(filename);
              BufferedReader inputFile = new BufferedReader(freader);
              // Read the categories from the file.
              categories = inputFile.readLine();
              // If a category was read, display it and
              // read the remainig categories.
              while(categories != null)
                   // Display the last category read.
                   JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(categories);
                   // Read the next category.
                   categories = inputFile.readLine();
              // Close the file.
              inputFile.close();
    }I think I need to change here:
    // If a category was read, display it and
              // read the remainig categories.
              while(categories != null)
                   // Display the last category read.
                   JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(categories);
                   // Read the next category.
                   categories = inputFile.readLine();
              }but I don't know how to.
    Could you please help me?
    Thank you.

    What is not understood about your question is which part of "read a bunch of lines and display them in a textbox" do you not understand.
    First thing's first though: You do recognize that "read a bunch of lines and display them in a textbox" has a few distinct and completely independent parts, right?I'm sorry. I'm not good at English, so I do not understand what you said...
    What I was trying to say is "How to display the whole lines of .txt file in single dialog box."We know that.
    Do you understand that any problem can be broken down into smaller pieces?
    Do you understand that your problem has the following pieces?
    1. Read lines from the file.
    2. Put the lines together into one String.
    3. Put the String into the message box.
    and maybe
    4. Make sure the message box contents are split into lines exactly as the file was.
    (You didn't make it clear if that last one is a requirement.)
    Do you understand that 1-4 are completely independent problems and can be solved separately from each other?
    Do you understand that you have stated that you already know how to do 1 and 3?
    Therefore, you are NOT asking "How to display the whole lines of .txt file in single dialog box." Rather, you ARE asking either #2 or #4 or both.
    If you say once more "display all the lines of the file in one dialog box," then it is clear that we are unable to communicate with you and we cannot help you.

I know that I can go Forms > Manage form Data > Import Data to import 1 record at a time, but say I have about 50 invoices to populate, is there a way to import all the records at once and have acrobat create a new invoice for each of the customer's records?
    If there is a way, will it be compatible for Acrobat Reader users since this form will be used by someone who only has the Reader?

    1. So I would like to know which is the {color:#3366ff}best way to load local images in ImageView{color}.I'm no expert, but is there a reason that you are using Swing to do the loading?
    2. secondly, currently the system displays all images only after the completion of creating all images. {color:#3366ff}How to display images as and when they are created.{color} So that the user has a feeling that the images are loading.JavaFX Image class let you display a lightweight placeholder, and you can bind the progress to some kind of visual indicator. I don't think you can display an image that is partially loaded.

  • Reading data from App Web List and Displaying in HostWeb.

    Hi,
    Is it possible to read list data from AppWeb and display it on a page in HostWeb?
    Any approaches to achieve this?
    Regards,
    Rivin Jose.

    Hi Rivin,
    There seems no need to query an app web from host web cause App for SharePoint is designed to work as an “advanced web part” solution, it should work as a separate
    component of a SharePoint site which shouldn’t be taken care on the host web side.
    If you simply want to display data from app web in the host web, add an App Part into a page in the host web would be the best option for you as what Dan suggests.
