Read only access for a Database!
Hi All,
I need to create a user for my database who can have readonly access to the database and can work as *"Read Only Apps".*
Senario:-* I want to give access to development team through TOAD/ SQL* but that user can not delete/update any thing from apps schema.
Thanks,

IStore - Cloned Apps Schema to access standalone Oracle Applications
Client has business across different continents and are using standalone oracle ebusiness applications across the locations.
They have recently bought an single iStore license and wants to use it across the locations. Oracle has recommended to buy four licenses of the same as they have standalone oracle e-biz installed at four locations.
Client is not happy buying so many licenses as they may have business in new locations in future. Client has agreed with the approach of cloning the APPS schema four times and then create/replace synonyms with DBlinks which points to four different locations.
This is similar to creating a responsibility using APPS_READ_ONLY schema. The only difference is creating a read/write APPS schema instead of ReadOnly.
• Database
• Create a Database Link in iStore instance pointing to the US Oracle Apps instance
• Create a Custom schema XXAPPS (contains synonyms + code objects), which is a clone of APPS schema
• Provide Grants on objects in APPS schema for XXAPPS schema
• Recursively re-compile the invalid code objects in XXAPPS schema
• Create/Replace the synonyms in XXAPPS using the DBLink created for US instance, only for the products/modules used by iStore functionality
• Investigate and fix the invalid objects
o e.g errors due to accessing the remote objects, pl/sql feature constraints like FORALL cannot be used on the remote table, etc.,
• The standard Oracle objects which are modified due to the above are placed in the custom top XXIBE_TOP/patch/115/sql
• Oracle Applications
• Register the new Oracle User XXAPPS
o (N) Security -> Oracle -> Register -> Database User Name: XXAPPS
• Register the custom application per location/instance
o (N) Application -> Register -> Application : XXUS iStore Customizations, Shortname: XXIBEUS, Basepath: XXIBE_TOP.
o Please note that XXIBE_TOP is the common top used for all the custom applications (existing and new)
• Register the new Oracle User in the DataGroup
o (N) Security -> Oracle -> DataGroup -> Standard -> Application: XXUS iStore Customizations, Oracle ID: XXAPPS
• Create a custom responsibilitie(s) based on the application 'XXus iStore Customizations'
o (N) Security -> Responsibility -> Define
iStore
Create an iStore User/Dealer/Superuser & approve the user
Assign theto custom responsibilitie(s) the iStore User/Dealer/Superuser in Oracle Applications
I have an apprehension that there will be issues that needs to considered from maintainence perspective. If you have followed such an approach, what problems would you forsee ? and important things that needs to be considered before implementing such a solution?

Hello everyone,
I'd gone through unlimited forums and blogs but not got any proper solution and is getting confused as I'm not good in sql.
I had created a db user.
I need grant it following privileges same as read only apps user:-
(1) It can only select all tables except dba related tables, views etc.
(2) It can only select any table of any user
(3) It can only select any function, procedures and every custom objects.
(4) it can select any table without prefixing apps. before table.

(2) It can only select any table of any userThe SELECT ANY TABLE system privilege enables a user to select from any table including dba related tables and views. If you want to exclude them, then you have to give SELECT privileges on all the other tables, one at a time, and remember to do it for new tables as they are created.
(3) It can only select any function, procedures and every custom objects.The EXECUTE ANY PROCEDURE system privilege does that.
(4) it can select any table without prefixing apps. before table.Don't be sill. That's like saying "it can select from any table without giving the table name", or "without typing anything".
You might reduce how often you have to qualify the table name with the schema name by using "ALTER SESSION SET CURRENT_SCHEMA = schema_name;".
Step by step instructions required with sql statements.To give the privileges mentioned in (1), (2) and (3) to user FUBAR, log in as SYSTEM and say
GRANT SELECT ANY TABLE TO fubar;
GRANT EXECUTE ANY PROCEDURE TO fubar; -

Give the read only access to user on Apps Schemas!
Hi,
How we can create the database user and give the access on APPS schemas(INV, PO etc).
Please assist me.
Thanks,
FaziarainDear Hussein,
I followed anil passi forum for creating apps read only schema , but only issue is we have multiorg enabled .
what is the modification dowe need in this step.
Step 4
Write a after logon trigger on apps_query schema. The main purpose of this trigger is to alter the session to apps schema, such that the CurrentSchema will be set to apps for the session(whilst retaining apps_query restrictions).In doing so your logon will retain the permissions of apps_query schema(read_only). Howerver it will be able to reference the apps objects with exactly the same name as does a direct connection to apps schema.
conn apps/&1 ;
PROMPT CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER xx_apps_query_logon_trg
CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER xx_apps_query_logon_trg
--16Jun2006 By Anil Passi
--Trigger to toggle schema to apps, but yet retaining apps_query resitrictions
--Also sets the org_id
AFTER logon ON apps_query.SCHEMA
DECLARE
BEGIN
EXECUTE IMMEDIATE
'declare begin ' ||
'dbms_application_info.set_client_info ( 101 ); end;';
EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'ALTER SESSION SET CURRENT_SCHEMA =APPS';
END;

Want to create a Read Only user for a given app owner user
Hi Folks,
We have an application owner schema, lets call it OWNER, which has different objects living under it.
Now, for certain reasons, the app group wants a read only user which should be able to view objects living only in OWNER. It would only be able to read things, and have no create or alter types of priv to be able to change anything.
The first idea was to create a new user (e.g. RO) and give this explicit grants (select only) for all objects in OWNER. Though this works, is a maintenance havoc, since everytime there is a new object in OWNER, you have to remember to give explicit grants to all RO (or RW ) kind of users.
What i am looking forward to is, some sort of privilege or role concept that apply on the user level, and not on object level. something that allows me to say, all objects of this schema (e.g. OWNER) are visible to user RO. Other restrictions on RO would control read or write behaviour.
Does this thing exist ? please point me to the documentation/example..

raghav..CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER myTest.trg_mytest
AFTER DDL
ON myTest.SCHEMA
DECLARE
lv_obj_type VARCHAR2(20) := TRIM(UPPER(ora_dict_obj_type));
lv_evt_type VARCHAR(20) := TRIM(UPPER(ora_sysevent));
lv_obj_name VARCHAR2(30) := trim(UPPER(ora_dict_obj_name));
lv_role_name VARCHAR2(30) := 'myTest_RO';
lv_stmt VARCHAR2(4000) := NULL;
ln_job_nr NUMBER;
BEGIN
IF lv_evt_type != 'GRANT' --lv_obj_type <> 'OBJECT PRIVILEGE' --
THEN
DBMS_JOB.SUBMIT(ln_job_nr,'begin execute immediate ''grant ' || ' select on ' ||
lv_obj_name || ' to ' || lv_role_name || '''; END;');
END IF;
INSERT INTO TB_EVT_LOG(d_date, description)
VALUES(SYSDATE, lv_obj_name || '~~~~ created ' || lv_obj_type || '~~~~' || lv_evt_type );
EXCEPTION
WHEN OTHERS THEN
RAISE;
END trg_mytest;
/This works. But, my problem is that it is not able to filter out the Grant statement itself, Its logging an entry for the grant (as a ddl operation as well).
what am I doing wrong here ?

Why, when using Desktop Manager for Mac, are certain Apps deemed to be read-only after a back-up? And why is there no warning about the possibility of this before backing up?
I backed up to try to revert to an old system to find lost wordpad notes from when they were inexplicably wiped out when I updated to 5.0. When I came up empty handed and reverted to the current OS and restored, all my programs and notes etc. were gone.
Hard not to be cynical about the inefficiencies of backing up here.
Any suggestions on how to recover any shred of what I keep losing to the blackhole of blackberry updates and back-ups?Did you try this: http://oracle.anilpassi.com/read-only-schema-in-oracle-apps-11i-2.html

Hello everyone
I have created a read only schema on oracle Apps and have granted select privileges to all synonyms and views and execute privileges to packages.
The read only schema is unable to access some synonyms and views below is the example:
conn to read only schema
select * from HR_ALL_ORGANIZATION_UNITS
'no rows returned'
Note: - The above is a view, and the view's script contains 2 tables hr_all_organization_units and hr_all_organization_units_tl.
Please help me on this
Thanks and Regards
Shahrukh YasinHi
There is one function "show record" which is giving FALSE when i run the below query on read only schema
select hr_security.show_record('HR_ALL_ORGANIZATION_UNITS',171) from dual
and when i run it from APPS Schema it gived TRUE.
I have already given execute privileges on ALL the database PACKAGE, PACKAGE BODY, FUNCTION, PROCEDURE to read only schema, but the problem is same
Thanks and Regards

Should the Edit in Browser link appear when Office Web Apps is read only?
Hi,
We have deployed an Office Web Apps farm in read only mode for licensing reasons.
There is a binding between SharePoint 2013 and the Office Web Apps farm, everything is working well, except the option to Edit Office documents using Office Web Apps is quite prominent on the ECB menus and document previews.
Is anyone able to advise whether this is expected behaviour? When the link is clicked a friendly error message states that licensing doesn't support editing, which is correct. I'm just trying to see if the user experience can be improved by a setting that
we've missed somewhere along the line.
Thanks in advance.Hi,
Per my knowledge, if you have configured Office Web Apps for SharePoint, the Edit in Browser option will appear in the ECB menu regardless of the licensing of the Office Web Apps.
So I recommend to use CSS code to hide the Edit in Browser option if you do not want the user to use it.
Edit the page of the document library view page, and then add a Content Editor web part to the page.
After that add the code below to the Content Editor web part:
<style>
a[Title="Edit in Browser"]{
display:none !important;
</style>
Thanks,
Victoria

Read only access of a full schema ?
Hi all,
Can i create a role having read only access of a full schema ?
Thanks in advance.Can i create a role having read only access of a
full schema ?The point here is that there is not a single command to perform this task, so you will have to do it on a per object basis. If you want to give access to the complete schema then it is advisable to create a script to grant on each table and on each view from the source schema. By providing read only to the full schema, I understand you are referring not also to the tables but also to the views, sequences, and may be stored program units, so you will have to properly define the scope of this 'full schema'.
Once you have properly defined the scope and have granted, as suggested by means of a role, then you may want to create synonyms for each granted object, so you don't have to qualify it with the schema name prefix when the object is being accessed.

"Read Only" open other schema's package body even have write permission
Oracle SQL Developer 2.1 (2.1.0.63)
I can view and modify package under my schema, but when I open other schema's package body, it show "Read Only" in status bar and can't type in code editor.
I'm sure my connected user have write permission and it works fine in old sql developer version.
Is there some toggle for "read only" view or some issue for new release?Not very helpful for you at the moment, but according to EA 2.1. Can't edit another users store procedures. this has been bugged and will hopefully get fixed soon.

Putting apps database in Read-Only mode
Hi,
I want to put the apps database in read-only mode to that user will be able to login into the applications and see data but will not be able to update it.
What is the best way to do this?
ThanksI am still looking at how to do this because if users
update the UAT/test database, when the prod upgrade
is completed, they will think that their updates will
be available and this will cause some issues.This is a training/expectation-setting issue, not a technical one. You need to make sure that your users understand the difference between a test system and production, and that changes made in testing will not be present in production. They also need to understand that this situation is actually to their benefit: it enables them to really work with the test system to uncover potential problems and learn new features, without fear of making changes that could negatively impact their day-to-day work in production.
Please note that I'm not trying to be a jerk here. I very respectfully submit that attempting to make an instance read-only for training purposes, even if possible, will involve a great deal of technical work for very little (and perhaps even negative) overall benefit to the users.

John P.
