Read receipt - automatic sending

Is there really no way to turn off the automatic sending of read receipts for an exchange email account?
Very, very annoying.

One last bump. Does anyone have any idea how "read receipt" generation is controlled on the iPhone? It seems to me that there's no way to control it. How do business exchange users feel about this? Do they really want their iPhones generating "read" and "received" receipts on their behalf without any way to turn it off? This may seem like a petty issue, but business users care about details like this. If Apple wants to be a real contender as a Blackberry replacement, it needs to get all these kind of small details right.

I have some clients who request read receipts when sending me emails and although i have turned the automatic response off from Outlook client when i open the mail on my iPhone it will automatically send a notification to the user. I understand that the outlook configuration has no bearing on the iPhone behaviour but i cannot see the option to disable this function when viewing new emails from the handset?
Is this possible via the native email client or could anyone recommend a 3rd party app which will allow push functionality when connecting to a Microsoft exchange server?
    Thanks Chris

There is no such option available on the iPhone and no 3rd party app can provide this option since no 3rd party app has access to private iPhone APIs and such an option would require that.
Push access for received messages is supported with an Exchange account accessed via ActiveSync. Microsoft's ActiveSync protocol is what allows/provides for this which Apple has licensed from Microsoft for use with the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, and with the Mail.app, Address Book, and iCal on a Mac running Snow Leopard - Apple's current OS X version.

  • Exchange Read Receipt on Samsung Android Phones

    All:
One of the principals at a company I work for informs me that
she used to have the ability to request a read receipt from her Exchange
account on an Android phone (Galaxy S4), but that the option recently
    disappeared.
I’ve looked at her phone but can’t seem to find any such
option to enable a read receipt when sending a message, and my Web research
hasn’t turned up anything useful either.
Does anyone know how one gets Exchange read
    receipts on a GS4? Thanks.

P.S. Just want to add that I know read receipts are pretty
much BS, but when the boss asks for something…well, you know.

  • Send FDF via Outlook and have read receipt feature turned on.

I am creating an FDF and emailing it to a designated email address but I would really like the sender to get an automated response that the receipient got and read the email. I thought that I could use the read receipt feature in Outlook but I can't figure out how to turn that feature on automatically when the email is generated. Anyone know how to do this?

You can't turn it on automatically because it is not a standard feature in all mail clients.
Acrobat's e-mail feature doesn't support Outlook only - you have to think of the millions of Eudora, Thunderbird and Lotus Notes users out there. Some apps don't even support read receipts, and other handle it differently than Outlook.

  • HT5361 how to put a read receipt to my email im sending

Hi, I am trying to send a email and I want to make sure they receive it and read it. Is there a way to get a return email when they open the email I send them?
    Thanks Felicity

You can always add a message to the end of the email. Something like:
While it is completely none of my business what you do with my email, my life would not be complete until you informed me that you read my email.
Also note that the read receipt is not responded to when actually read (however the email client interprets that). If you do any pre-processing on a message, like automatically sending all email with a read receipt to the trash, it will generate the response. So, it doesn't tell you anything like what you expect even if you do get a response.

  • How to filter out inbound Read receipts but prevent prevent notification to sender

    Greetings,
For Exchange 2007, we would like to prevent external users from sending Read Receipt requests to our users.  In the Outlook client, we can easily disable this.  But for EAS users, their smartphones send a reply as soon as the email is opened.  I've
applied a Hub Transport rule to strip out the "Disposition-Notification-To" from inbound emails but this causes a different message to be sent to the sender, "Delivery to these recipients or distribution lists is complete, but delivery
notification was not sent by the destination:".   As a test, I've now also unchecked "Allow Delivery Reports" for Remote domains, but will this work?  Should both settings be applied to avoid generating the response to senders as noted
    previously?
    Thanks

    Hi,
From your description, you want to prevent the external users from receiving the read receipts of internal users.
You can create the following transport rule to achieve it. (Note: Because we use the "Read" as subject key word, it will delete the messages whose subject contain "read", please pay attention to use it.)
What's more, I have a test in my lab. If I choose "Read:" as subject key word, the transport doesn't work. When I choose "Read" as subject key word, it works.
Besides, to force an immediate update of transport rule, you can stop and start the Microsoft Exchange Transport service.
    Hope it helps.
If you need further assistance, please feel free to let me know.
    Best regards,
    Amy

  • Exchange 2013 public folders are sending read receipts for items viewed in public folders

We have Exchange 2013 with public folders.  These public folders are used for a large amount of shared contacts.  When a user goes into the public folders and double clicks on a contact to view it, Exchange dispatches a read receipt to all users
that are configured as publishing editors to notify them that a certain contact was read.  How do I disable this option?

    hi again dear.. :)
"At first, I would like to say the
read Receipt is not sent out by the device, it is sent out by the Exchange server. This is how it works and what happens:
    1.
    E-mail with request for send
    receipt is received on the Exchange server;
    2.
E-mail is synchronized with Windows Mobile based device using Exchange
    ActiveSync;
    3.
    When e-mail is
    read on Windows Mobile based device the read status is synchronized back to the Exchange server;
    4.
The Exchange server creates and sends out the
    Read Receipt when receiving the Read status update from the device;
The above is how this is implemented and there is no functionality which allows preventing this from occurring on the Mobile device.
It seems that there is an alternative method to disable RR using transport rules. However, it will at the risk of the filtering out other messages
    with the same subject.
Towards the third party mobile clients that support RR and DR, you might consider using Flexmail 4.11. It’s impossible to deactivate ActiveSync
    RRs in Exchange server 2007/2010."
    also
One way to stop read receipts being triggered through client side configuration on the mobile is to use the option "Don't Mark Read on server".
I have tested this successfully using this option in the TouchDown mail client on Android.
Not sure if the standard or other mail clients do support this option, TouchDown certainly does and it works.
The side effect obviously is, that the read status isn't synced back to Exchange anymore:"
hope now i r clear... one way or the other... you need to send a feed back or define a transport rule... but that again may create problem with the same subject :)

  • Sending read receipts

How can I change settings to stop my mobile from sending read receipts? I’ve turned it off in outlook (as far as I know), but when using my mobile this does not seem to work. Using intellisync and an E65.
    appreciate any advice

I logged into my Office 365 Outlook Web Access/Mail and disabled read receipts too, but believe another poster here commented that iOS devices are ignoring and/or by-passing the setting.
I'll have to see what it does for the Mail app on OS X.
But from what I've read in these forums related to the issue, if the mail.app doesn't support read receipts (which I realize is not a common standard), then why does it send a read receipt when you open/view an e-mail?  That doesn't make any sense.
I've always disabled read receipts.  I don't let email rule my day.  Just because I opened an email doesn't mean I read it and should reply to it in a certain time frame.  Your sense of urgency doesn't dictate a priority on my end.
In today's world, senders expect immediate responses, just like they do with text messages.  That is ludicrous.
Thanks for letting me ramble.  Sure wish there could be a setting or hack for OS X (at the terminal level) to disable this very annoying 'feature'.

  • My wife, daughter and I have iPhones. We all have iMessage and Send Read Receipts activated. All the messages sent between the three of us are blue except those that my wife sends to me. They are green. Can anyone explain why.

My wife, daughter and I have iPhones with iMessage and Send Read Receipts activated. All the messages sent between the three of us are blue however, when my wife messages me, the message appears in green on her iPhone. Can anyone explain why.

Because some kind of error occured.  This is only from her iPhone to your iPhone?  Whenever she sends a message to any other iPhone, it is sent as blue?  And when anyone else sends you a message from an iPhone, it sends as blue?

    Thank you.

as far as i understand iCal it is on the "receivers/subscribers" side to deal with email-updates (and not on the "senders/changers" side):
snippet from my Re: How do you stop receiving notifications about updated calendar events?:
to NOT get email notification about updated events from a shared calendar you subscribed to you have to uncheck "events affect availability" in that calendars "info" (mac os X.7 and X.8: iCal —> calendars dropdown —> right click on the subscribed calendar —> choose "get info" from the context-menu —> uncheck "events affect availability")
