Read Serial USB Input

I am trying to read the inputs from an analyzer communicating with the computer through a USB port.  I have tried to use the RS232 Input module in DASYlab, but it always says it is waiting for a signal.  I have attached the protocol for the analyzer.  What settings can I change to see these values?

From the manual, it looks like the device has a serial output. Typically that looks like a 9-pin connector on the back of the device.
If the device has a USB output, and not a serial connector, does it create a COM port when you plug the USB cable into the PC? You can check that with the device manager.
If it is a 9-pin connector, then you need a USB-RS232 converter. They're readily available, since almost no new computer has a 9-pin serial port.

  • Java applets in a browser, and Serial port input

I know that there is a special package for serial port input in java. (java.Comm.SerialPort)
What I am trying to figure out before a final decision on design is made, is if there is anyway of reading serial port input into a java applet that is running inside of a browser.
I have found lots of reference to Serial port input, but nothing that really goes in the direction that I am lookind for.
Any little tid bits of information pertaining to this would be greatly appreciated.

You should also consider that applets are not allowed to access their client system's hardware without being signed; in other words, the user must agree (by clicking a button) to disable the applet security features. Why would you use an applet to do this? Applets are meant to be an extension of a website. You should use an application in this situation.

  • When using USB input iPod classic won't read in new car

Just bought a new car with a factory iPod ready stereo system. When using the USB input iPod Classic won't read but son's iPod touch does. Anyway I can fix this? I know my Classic works fine as I was using it in my other car and it works in my wife's car. Is the car just too new therefore making my Classic incompatible and soon to be obsolete?

the best option is to contact the car manufacturer or look at the manual to make sure it supports your ipod verision. if it is a custom radio then look then contact the manufacturer or look at the manual for same thing. you can try a reset with http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1320.

Can I connect my Apple TV to the Blu-Ray using an HDMI/ USB adapter?
If you can find such a thing.  I really doubt that exists since USB is a data connector not a video connector.
would allow me to run the audio through my stereo.
That would depend on this adapter.

Is there a way to for my video camera output (i.Link or Firewire) to connect to my MacBook Air USB input??? Is there any kind of adapter?? I have many movies I want to edit on my Mac

I don't believe firewire to usb adapters exist.
Which MacBook Air do you have? If you have the 2011 model with Thunderbolt, then, you are in luck.
Thunderbolt to firewire adaptors will be available.

  • HT1349 Can I hook my iPad up to my tv using the USB cord if my tv has a USB input?

Can I hook iPad up to tv with charging cord if tv has USB input to watch Netflix?

Not as far as i know. There's no protocol to send video out of the iPad via that 30 pin USB port. There have been some people saying they can hook their iPad up to their TV with the HDMI connector, but it seems that just as many have problems with getting both video and audio.

  • Car with USB input - but music plays from phone sp...

    Hi all,
Last week I got a new Nokia Lumia 520. I've had iPhones for years, but since getting an iPad, though I'd have a change of phone.
Our Nissan Quasquai has a usb input which connects straigh to the head unit. I can plug my iPad straight into that usb port and it plays music through the car speakers, with the added bonus of being able to change tracks on the steering wheel.
However, an iPad is a chunky beast and when family are in the car its not practicle. So I thought I'd put some music on my Nokia and see if the same functionality is available. Unfortunatly when I connect it to the car through the usb stick, it plays from the phone speaker, not the car speakers.
Is there a setting I need to change within the phone, or is what I want to do just not possible? My next option is to play with a usb memory stick.
Many thanks is advance for any help and guidence.

there isnt a setting that will allow that to happen.
the phone cannot play audio/video through the usb. it is for data transfer and charging only.
your cars radio integrates and controls your iStuff because it has the software integrated to allow for it.
if you have bluetooth, just connect your device to your car through bluetooth and play it that way.
my pioneer still allows me to pause, play, fwd, etc on my nokia that way. i just cannot go through the menu system.

  • Why is the usb input on the left side ?

for the love of god, what exactly stood behind the design of putting the usb input on the left side of the laptop ?
for right handed plugging in their mouse, the cord has to go all the way around to reach the right side.

There is a port next to the modem connection on the back right side.   You knew that.   wow no big deal.  I thought there were too few USB ports but there are plenty.  How many usb devices does one need to plug in simultaneously?

I want to put Results into Database from Haematology Machine

You will have to write a Java program to do this and then use a Java Pluggin Commponent (JPC) to read the data into Forms.
Look on the Internet for code showing how to work with USB ports, and see Francois web site about PJCs.

  • Protecting a USB input with a password?

    Hi-
I'm setting up some new intel MiniMacs for my students. I'd like to be able to use USB flash drives, iPods, etc on their computers, but dont want them to use this sort of stuff without my permission.
How can I get Tiger to prompt the user for a password once something is inserted in a USB input?
    Thanks

I haven't had a chance to test these things in "Tiger", but in "Panther", it was possible to load / unload the kernel extension for USB mass storage drivers pretty much at will. This won't block people with original firewire iPods, but might have been ok for the newer USB ones:<pre>sudo kextunload -b com.apple.iokit.IOUSBMassStorageClass</pre>Also, the 'mount-controls' settings of 'mcx_settings' in the "NetInfo' database did sort of work in "Panther" - the limitation was that restricted users wouldn't be able to log in after a non-restricted user had logged in since the time the machine was booted. As long as only restricted users logged in after booting, everything continued to work, and all external drives would either be prevented from mounting, or would require a password at the time they were connected. Having to reboot after a non-restricted user logs in, just to restore the ability of restricted users to log in, will probably make it impractical, but the option is there (provided it works in "Tiger"), and might be ok for a student only machine...

  • Multiple usb inputs

I am new to mac products and garage band.  I am trying to connect two instruments to my MacBook Pro via the available two USB ports and record both simultaneously.  When both are plugged in, the Mac system recognizes both are plugged in, but GarageBand only shows one available.  Any suggestions for multitrack recordings via USB inputs would be appreciated!

assuming you are using audio interfaces (not MIDI instruments), you need to first create an Aggregate Device:

(Let the page FULLY load. The link to your answer is at the top of your screen)
then you can record on multiple tracks:

  • [solved] NFS: "ls: reading directory .: Input/output error" after time

    Hello,
    I got the following configuration:
NFS-server: Always on, connected via LAN.
NFS-clients: 2 computers, connected via LAN and WLAN. On standby: auto umount NFS-share via system-sleep-hook with systemd.
This works flawlessly some hours or even days. But after some time, the following happens:
    1. mount nfs-share: no error message
2a. trying to access that folder via filemanager, e.g. thunar: folder seems to be empty (it isn't on server!), but the correct freesize of the NFS-share on server is displayed in the statusbar.
2b. trying to access that folder via commandline:
    $ ls
ls: reading directory .: Input/output error
The very same worked just a few hours before, I haven't changed anything meanwhile. Apart from standby (--> auto umount NFS-share) and resume (manual mount NFS-share) on the clients which worked before, too.
    Any idea what's going wrong?

Indeed, there could be something interesting in dmesg on the server:

    (last one repeats several times...)
Indeed, the NFS-share resists on a external WD harddrive connected via USB, /dev/sdc1.
As suggested in the NFS wiki article, the NFS-share is a bind-mount:
    /etc/fstab on server:
    # fake-root for NFS
    /magnet/owncloud/data/carl/files /srv/nfs/myshare none bind,noauto,x-systemd.automount
    while /srv is on /dev/sda1.
The external harddrive has an auto-standby (NOT hdparm...) which isn't causing troubles with other services.
So it seems to be a problem connected to this bind-mount to external USB setup....
I'll try to find out whether there is  a way to avoid that.
    Thanks so far!

  • . Does CS4 accommodate USB inputs?

I am looking into buying video cameras for our art school. It seems that (Sony) cameras no longer have firewires connections. Does CS4 accommodate USB inputs? (We may move onto CS5 next year.)

I don't think you'll find any pro level NLE that will take a video feed from a USB input.
Most cameras that have a USB connection are likely to be file-based (CF or SD card, P2, hard drive, etc.) and not tape-based.  As such, you don't need to 'capture'.  You just use your file explorer of choice to copy the media from the camera to the computer's hard drive, and then import into the NLE from there.
