Read the noteboard web part's comments

hi all,
 would like to know ho to get/read the Noteboard webpart's comments programmatically. if i elaborate little bit, i have added noteboardw eb part in few pages, and end users have posted comments using this.Now if i want to retrieve those comments programmatically,
 how to get those handle of the notebaord object and comments.
help is appreciated!

Hi,
We can use SocialCommentManager to retrieve comments by two ways using the URI parameter as key:
•.GetCount(Uri) = Retrieve all comments;
•.GetComments(Uri) = Retrieve all current user comments;
The following code for your reference:
using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Linq;
using System.Text;
using Microsoft.SharePoint;
using Microsoft.Office.Server;
using Microsoft.Office.Server.SocialData;
using Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles;
namespace UserProfileCodes
class Program
static void Main(string[] args)
Uri uri =new Uri("https://servername.com/Shared%20Documents/Forms/AllItems.aspx");
using (SPSite site = new SPSite("https://servername.com/"))
SPServiceContext context = SPServiceContext.GetContext(site);
SocialCommentManager socialCommentManager = new SocialCommentManager(context);
SocialComment[] comments = socialCommentManager.GetComments(uri);
Console.WriteLine("Comments for the URL: "+uri.AbsoluteUri);
foreach (SocialComment comment in comments)
Console.WriteLine("####################################");
Console.WriteLine("Comment : "+ comment.Comment);
Console.WriteLine("Comment Title: " + comment.Title);
Console.WriteLine("Comment owner: " + comment.Owner.DisplayName);
Console.ReadLine();

  • Make individual cells readonly in js grid of the schedule web part

    I need to be able to modify individual cells in the js grid on the schedule web part to make them editable or read only based on certain conditions pertaining to that specific record.  I've figured out how to make an entire record in the grid
    read only by using delegates, but I'm having trouble getting to the specific cell and making it read only.  The code I have for making an entire row read only is below.  I'd like to do something along these lines but for cells, not
    rows...
    PJ.AddGridSatelliteInitializationNotifier
    function (satellite) {
    satellite = PJ._NotifySatelliteInitComplete.arguments[0];
    _myGrid = satellite.GetJsGridControlInstance();
    _myGrid.SetDelegate(SP.JsGrid.DelegateType.GetRecordEditMode, CheckToAllowEdit);
    function CheckToAllowEdit(record) {
    if (record.GetDataValue('TASK_WORK') == 0) {
    //i need to find a way to get the cell in question here and then make it ready only return SP.JsGrid.EditMode.ReadOnly;
    else {
    return SP.JsGrid.EditMode.ReadWrite;

    Hi gmhamm0
    Were you able to get this done for a specific cell ?

  • What can I use to list the specific web part types on a specific page?

    A user is trying to create a new entry on a sharepoint page. The page has various web parts showing bulleted lists of links.
    However, when he tried to create a new one, he ends up with the links having no bullets and the letters URL in a title bar over the links. The other link web parts do not have that.  The title bar allows sorting of the links; the other web parts have
    no title bar at all.
    This new web part has no "edit" option to modify parameters like titlebar, etc.
    Is there a powershell way that I could provide a URL and get the list of web parts, their types and their titles so that I could see what is going on and try to help him fix things?

    You can check all these out via the Web Part Maintenance Page. After the PageName.aspx, add ?contents=1 and you'll get a list of the webparts that are open and published on the page.
    You can't do too much here but you can reset the parts that you think might be causing the problems.

  • Best practice to develop the news web part to retrieve news data across the farms

    Hi,
    We have developed the News Web part. The functionality  it pulls the news from other SharePoint Farms and display it in the site. Currently we are using secure store service to  to connect to different FARM to retrieve the news from that FARM.
    The issue with this approach is that every time user hits the page it  will always hit the Secure Store service.There are almost 80K users who will be using this web part. Moreover this web part connects to multiple sites for multiple news from different
    division.What should be the best practice to develop such kind of web part without consuming the server resources and keep hitting the server till we get the new news.News does not change very often.

    Hi,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you want to know which is the best way  to handle the large complication of SharePoint cross farm retrieving data.
    If you are developing the custom web part to retrieve data from other farm, I suggest you can firstly create a custom timer job to get data hourly in the backend and restore the data in a list. Then you can create a web part to link to the list to display
    the data.
    For cross farm accessing data, I suggest you can create a custom web service to achieve it.
    Also, you can use ajax to display the web part data asynchronously. It will improve the performance and reduce the server pressure.
    Here are some detailed articles for your reference:

  • How can I resize the size of the Excel web part?

    I have a spreadsheet that i want to use to populate a page in my SharePoint site.  i copied the workbook to the site, created the page and added the excel web part. then i linked the workbook to the web part and submitted.  it displays but only
    about 25% of the sheet shows. i dont want to use the thumbs to scroll inside the web part. i want the web part sized to show the entire spreadsheet.  cant seem to find how to size the web part. Can some kind soul help me out here.
    thanks

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to resize the size of the Excel web part.
    Per my knowleadge, most of the time excel web parts turn out ugly, due to the fact that they’re rendered in an iframe and therefore the browser doesn’t resize the container to fit the content.
    As a workaround, we can edit the page where you want the resizing to happen, add in a content editor web part, and paste the following code into the source editor.
    <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.2/jquery.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript">
    $(function () { // resizes excel webparts
    $("td[id^='MSOZoneCell_WebPart']").each (function (i, e) {
    var findIframe = $(e).find ("iframe:first");
    if (findIframe &amp;&amp; findIframe.attr ("scriptforiframecontent"))
    bindEwaLoaded ("#"+e.id);
    function bindEwaLoaded(obj) { // bind event to the web part
    $(obj).bind ("ewaLoaded", function (e) {
    var b = $(e.target).find ("iframe:first").attr ("postedbackalready");
    if (b == undefined) // loop until iframe is ready
    setTimeout (function() { $(e.target).trigger ("ewaLoaded"); }, 1000);
    else // try to resize now
    ewaSetSize (e.target);
    }).trigger ("ewaLoaded"); // first trigger now
    function ewaSetSize(obj) { // resize elements
    // configure paddings
    var excelObjectWidthPadding = 50;
    var excelObjectHeightPadding = 50.
    var w, h, div1, div2;
    var e = $(obj).find ("iframe:first").contents().find ("table.ewrnav-invisibletable-nopadding:last");
    if (e.length != 0) { // excel table
    w = e.width ();
    h = e.height ();
    div1 = $(obj).find ("table:first> tbody:first> tr:eq(1)> td> div> div");
    div2 = $(div1).find ("table:first> tbody:first> tr:eq(1)> td> div");
    } else {
    e = $(obj).find ("iframe:first").contents().find ("div.ewrchart-img-div");
    if (e.length != 0) { // excel chart
    w = e.width ();
    h = e.height ();
    div1 = $(obj).find ("table:first> tbody:first> tr:eq(0)> td> div> div");
    div2 = $(div1).find ("table:first> tbody:first> tr:eq(1)> td> div");
    if (w == 0 || w == undefined) { // loop until content is ready
    setTimeout (function() { ewaSetSize (obj); }, 1000);
    } else { // do resize
    w += excelObjectWidthPadding;
    h += excelObjectHeightPadding;
    div1.width (w);
    div2.height (h);
    </script>

  • Out of the box web part automatically redirect to another page while setting properties

    Hi
    I have a situation where by if I click the + sign in front of a grouped property to customize the individual properties of a web part - the web part automatically redirects away to another page.
    A typical example is the "Table of Content" web part in the attached image.  If I click the + sign in front of either Content, presentation or Organization then the web part just closes off and the page redirects away.  I am able to
    open the + sign in front of Appearance, Layout & Advanced.
    Environment is SharePoint 2010, Service Pack 1 and highest hot fix is
    KB2597150.
    Has anyone experienced this to be able to advise a fix?

    Hi Andy,
    Thanks for your response and at least problem identified.
    No custom code but the only java script is on the master page which incorporates OnClick events for google analytics.  I have removed it and it seems to stop that behavior.  Root cause now known and I can investigate further.
    Thanks

  • Current User Filter not available in the Add Web Parts list - Sharepoint 2007

    Hi everybody,
    I'm trying to build a copy (or auto-populate) function on a list.
    I did all the coding changes, now I need to add a web part to my list called Current User Filter.
    Problem is, the Current User Filter is not in the Web Part list at all!
    How can I add it ? I looked in the Central Admin Panel and did not see anything.
    Thanks in advance!

    What version of SharePoint are you using?  I think that this is s MOSS webpart, so if you're using the WSS version of the product, you're probably out of luck.

  • Having the same web part twice on a page - how to distinguish parameters

    Hello,
    I've made a web that takes a set of custom properties . If I put the web part twice  on the same pages, all the web parts are using the same custom parameters.
    I understand that the culprit is in line: public static string strList, but I wonder if there has been a work around
    public static string strList;
    [System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebParts.WebBrowsable(true),
    System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebParts.WebDisplayName("MY display name"),
    System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebParts.Personalizable(
    System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebParts.PersonalizationScope.Shared),
    System.ComponentModel.Category("ShowFieldBasedOnURL Custom Properties"),
    System.ComponentModel.DefaultValue("")]
    Thank you
    Christos

    correct, that's what I have mentioned, and I didn't see any static method from the link that you have provided.
    Question is have you tried refactoring the code as per the example you have referenced.
    Usually you will get the error message when you call non static method within static method, you should make the property as static, otherwise you will get the error message.  so try changing the code to the link as per the forum thread
    you are referring to.

  • Customizing the blog post web part to not show entire entries

    I have a blog site, and as you know, the posts web part shows the entire contents of each listed post, rather than one paragraph, followed by a "click here to read more" link.  I know that there is no out-of-box functionality for this, because of course,
    why would there be? Who needs nice looking blogs?  Anyway, I found this on the internet:
    http://zabistop.blogspot.com/2009/02/customizing-sharepoint-blog-posts-web.html
    It knows what's up, but it's outdated and the code doesn't mesh with what I have. Are there any articles similar to this online? I can't be the first person who thought of this, and doing it from the ground up is not an option. I appreciate any help.

    In 2010 you can make the same changes using a similar method.
    Open the default.aspx page, in code view click in within the blog area. In the ribbon click on the List View tools >design. Click on Customize XSLT in the Actions panel. When you do that you will be able to see all the code.
    Find this line of code <xsl:template name="FieldRef_Note_body.Body" ddwrt:dvt_mode="body" match="FieldRef[@Name='Body']" mode="Note_body" ddwrt:ghost="hide">
    Approx line 402. It actually looks like   </xsl:template><xsl:template name="FieldRef.... so you will have to place your cursor after the template close and hit enter a few times to make space for the code.
    Directly above that line, where you have added spaces, include this code. (I cheated and grabbed this code from another site where we did the same thing - and was able to modify it slightly to work for the blog.)
    <!-- used to strip out HTML from passed-in field -->
        <xsl:template name="removeHtmlTagsFromField">
         <xsl:param name="html"/>
         <xsl:choose>
             <xsl:when test="contains($html, '&lt;')">
                 <xsl:value-of select="substring-before($html, '&lt;')"/>
                 <!-- Recurse through HTML removing all markup -->
                 <xsl:call-template name="removeHtmlTagsFromField">
                     <xsl:with-param name="html" select="substring-after($html, '&gt;')"/>
                 </xsl:call-template>
             </xsl:when>
             <xsl:otherwise>
                 <xsl:value-of select="$html"/>
             </xsl:otherwise>
         </xsl:choose>
     </xsl:template>
    Next below the line ( should be the next line below the pasted code)   <xsl:template name="FieldRef_Note_body.Body" ddwrt:dvt_mode="body" match="FieldRef[@Name='Body']" mode="Note_body" ddwrt:ghost="hide">
    Locate the       <xsl:param name="thisNode" select="."/> and paste the following code:
      <!-- call "removeHtmlTagsFromField" template to strip out html markup from the field -->
     <xsl:variable name="textOnlyDescription">
         <xsl:call-template name="removeHtmlTagsFromField">
             <xsl:with-param name="html" select="$thisNode/@*[name()=current()/@Name]" />
         </xsl:call-template>
     </xsl:variable>
    I have already swichted out the select content with the content that was in the xsl line that renders the body content.
    Locate the code  ( should be 2 lines down)     <xsl:value-of select="$thisNode/@*[name()=current()/@Name]" disable-output-escaping="yes"/>
    Comment the code out and replace with the following code:
          <xsl:value-of select="substring($textOnlyDescription, 0, 320)" disable-output-escaping="yes"/>
          <xsl:if test="string-length($textOnlyDescription)>320">...</xsl:if>
    Change the number to your desired length.
    Save your file.
    You can revert the file if you ever need to, after its checked in, by right clicking on the page and selecting reset to site definition.
    Hope this helps. I plan on doing a post shortly covering this and will have screen shots.

  • Issue with the presence indicator in list/library web part.

    When viewing a user field (Created By, Modified By or a custom People column) through the list web part (either through the default page /Forms/AllItems.aspx or a custom web part page using a list/library) the presence indicator always says presence unknown.
     However if I go to the Site Permissions on the same site, or My Site or a custom page using a modified core search results web part I wrote the presence indicator works fine.  I can't find any errors being reported on the server.
    Looking at the rendered code the list web part generates:
    <IMG name=imnmark width=12 height=12 title="" class=ms-imnImg id=imn_48683,type=smtp alt="No presence information" src="/_layouts/images/blank.gif" border=0 sip="[email protected]">
    Locations where the presence indicator works the code is:
    <IMG name=imnmark width=12 height=12 title="" class=ms-imnImg id=imn{20140822-1752-098D-8C11-188AD0B8B8B6},type=sip alt=Available src="http://portal.mydomain.com/_layouts/images/imnon.png" border=0 sip="[email protected]" valign="middle">
    It appears that the List web part is not detecting that the users have a sip address and they appear to be rendered using smtp instead.  It's also odd that the list web part is pulling the correct sip address while the one that works is pulling the
    email address, not the sip address stored in the user profile.  I spent considerable time going through the xslt to try and figure how the tag is rendered but I haven't been able to figure it out.
    We are using Cisco Jabber 9.2.3 for IM, I don't know if that should make a difference or not. It's working fine in other parts of SharePoint and in Outlook. Running SharePoint Dec 2011 CU (14.0.6114.5000) with MS Office 2010 SP2 installed on the client. Tested
    in IE 9.0/10/11.
    Any ideas?

    We don't have a Lync server and I don't have the software available.  Are you saying just having Lync installed even though it won't work might help?
    I did some more digging and believe that this is an issue with the XsltListViewWebPart.  If I go to the UserInformationList the web part used to render the list is the ListViewWebPart and the presence indicator works there.  Also our environment
    was migrated from 2007 and there are a number of pages that are using the old ListViewWebPart and the presence indicator works fine in this part.  If edit the page and add the same list library to it, it's added as a XsltListViewWebPart and the presence
    indicator does not work.
    The presence control is not rendered by the xsl files used by the webpart.  I modified the xsl to display the raw xml and the html code for the presence is part of the xml.  I'm guessing this can't be changed and is part of how SharePoint is rendering
    the data for the XsltListViewWebPart.  You can see the Editor and CheckoutUser lines have the html code embedded in the data.

    I just find it strange that the old ListViewWebPart works.  Our SP environment has not been patched to the latest version, I'll try that next and see if it makes a difference.

  • Using multiple refinement web parts on the same page but have them hidden until needed

    I have a search results page that has several different Core Results web parts on it (each is connected to a different result source). all hidden by tabs using the HillbillyTabs interface
    http://www.sharepointhillbilly.com/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=42
    unfortunately you cant share a refinement web part across multiple results web parts. So I am left trying to figure out how to hide several refinement web parts and only show the active refinement webpart when the result source tab is selected.
    The template im using is an OOTB standard search results template with the refinement panel on the left navigation zone and the core results web parts configured in the main content zone.
    Scenario:
    Search text box passes query to multiple results web parts on a page. Only one results web part is displayed at a time (active tab). The refiner for the active tab shows and displays its refiners in the navigation panel.
    There are multiple refinement web parts in the navigation panel associated with each core results web part in the main content zone. These refiner web parts are configured with custom refiners.
    the results page displays just one results web part at a time via tabbed interface.
    I am trying to figure out how to make the refiner web parts show and hide depending on which tab is selected.
    Any help pointing to someone thats already attempted this would be appreciated!

    Hi,
    For your issue, you can consider using SharePoint Search Navigation which can achieve a similar feature but not on the same page.
    Search Navigation allows users to move quickly between search experiences listed in the Navigation. Navigation is displayed in the Quick Launch control on search pages, and can also be shown as a drop-down menu from the search box.
    For more information, you can refer to the blog:

  • Allow group to view a list view web part but not the original list?

    I have a list that contains a lot of details about current active projects our team is working on. I created a public list view that presents this list in a concise format for external viewers to see and have it on a separate page in a web part; however,
    we need to keep the original list (and all the extra data private).
    How can I keep the original list restricted, but allow permissions to the data that is in that public list view?
    I have already set up the page permissions and they are able to see the page, but the list has no data and displays a message that says "There are no items to show in this view of the "Projects" list.".

    There's no way to do this that I'm aware of without some kind of custom programming.  You could easily create a custom web part that runs with elevated permissions to get the data and display it in a read only fashion.  But to display data in
    any kind of out of the box web part users need permissions to see the data.

  • Does the Target Audiences setting work for Content Search Web Part Snippets?

    I am attempting to create a page layout in SharePoint 2013 that contains a Content Search Web Part snippet.
    I only want the CS Web Part to appear for certain users in a defined SP Group.
    I set the Target Audience property during the generation of the snippet.
    Unfortunately, the target audience property does not affect the appearance of the web part.
    It appears all the time, even when the current user is not a member of the named SP group.
    Here is my snippet, the group I am targeting in called "US Region":
