Reader 11 open in browser doesn't

We have recently updated some machines to Reader XI, however one of the issues we have faced is that they won't open a PDF - both from external sites and our own SharePoint site - within the web browser but only on some machines, others are fine.
I did an upgrade from 10.4 to 11 on my PC and whereas I could open PDF's in the browser with 10.4, I cannot do so with XI..
I have gone into manage add-ons in IE9 and if the "Adobe PDF Reader" add-on in "run without permissions" is enabled or disabled, makes no difference.
The main reason staff need browser functionaility is because it's easy to copy the URL to the PDF out of the web browser address bar.
I even tried downgrading to 10.4 again but unfortunately when I follow the link to download 10.1 full installer off Adobe's site, it eventually takes me to the 11 installer which isn't that helpful..

Hi,
Please use the below link to configure the opening of PDF files in browser for ReaderXI.

  • Reader 9, open outside browser causes problem with Firefox

    Reader 9.1.3,  Firefox 3.5.3.
In reader, Edit, Preferences, Internet, Uncheck "Display PDF in Browser" so PDF files will open in a reader window.
Open a PDF file from any web page.  The PDF opens in Reader as it should, but Fireflx also opens a new page in the same window, containing the PDF's  location in the address bar.
This new page now copies the image of any windows that appears in front of it, starting with the contents of the PDF itself:  If you drag the front window around, it strobes copies of itself onto the new Firefox page.  The only way to clear this annoying page is to close it, or hit the back button if available
(Before reader 9, FF just opened a blank page that didn't copy anything.)
The sample below was made by opening a PDF, alt-tabbing back to Firefox, then dragging a small window around on top of it.
The gray background is from MS Paint, whch had been opened on top of the Firefox window prior to generating the screen capture.
Anyone else seeing this?  Please give it a try  (This does not occur in IE)

    1. It happens with any file i want to open in browser.
    2. The Problem is specific to browser. When I open a document in the Reader application everithing works fine.
    kind regards
    Marcel

I want to contact Adobe and find out what I have to do to get PDF files on the internet to open in Adobe reader rather than on a browser page.  Where can I find an answer? Dale Kemper

  • If private browsing doesn't make you anonymous, what's the purpose?

I just read a warning: Private Browsing doesn't make you anonymous, keep advertisers from tracking you, etc. I thought that's the whole purpose of private browsing. I understand your ISP, webmaster, but shouldn't private browsing make you completely anonymous?

Sorry, that's not the purpose of the Private Browsing feature. Private Browsing allows you to browse the Internet without saving any information about which sites and pages you’ve visited.

    HI Juanverano,
Not a problem, Safe Mode will disable addons and hardware acceleration. If this continues and it is not an add on this will be the next step to try to disable acceleration:
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
#Open Firefox ''Options'' window (''Preferences'' on Mac or Linux) as follows:
#* In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and select ''Options'' for Windows or ''Preferences'' on Mac or Linux.
#* In Firefox 28.0 and previous versions, click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
#In the Firefox Options (or Preferences) window, click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select ''General''.
#In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
#Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    * [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
    * [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]

  • Reader 10 x, IE 8, Windows XP SP3 - PDF files won't open in browser

We have users that can open a PDF file from our web site in Firefox and Chrome but not with IE8.
Items come up with a blank screen in the browser.
It seems to deal with the pop up blocker - the pages are catergorized as "unknown zone" and thus are blocked.  I haven't been able to figure out how to add that to the allowed sites.  The files are in our domain with /directory name/*.pdf
Users can right click, save and open seperately but not all our users are educated well enough to go through all those steps.
This site gives the parameters of the problem but other than saying display the PDF in another window - ie save and read it outside the browser, it doesn't offer a solution other than that - http://www.bnl.gov/itd/webapps/pdf_help.asp
I have checked the users machines and they have the items under Preferences - Internet - all items checked.
    Thoughts?

Can the files be opened in Preview? If they can, then at least you will know that they are not empty or corrupted.

  • Every time I try to access the ASPX pages, the browser doesn't display the pages. Instead, a popup box asks if I want to open or save

What site is doing this? 99% of the time it is a problem with the headers sent from the web server.

Maybe you should check the HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure (https) option within the browser settings
Check if the cookies could be accepted.

  • I'm trying to open files which are telling me to instal Adobe Reader.  Which I did but the agreement which needs to be ticked off so this reader can open doesn't come up.  Please could you be of some assistance.

Select one of the files, Choose GetInfo from the Finder's File menu, look for the field named "Open With", and choose Preview from the adjacent menu. Accept that ALL such files will Open with Preview, and your major problems should be solved.
Occasionally, a particularly complex .pdf file or one that needs to be modified and re-written will not work quite right with Preview, but such issues are rare.

  • PDFs will not open in Browser with Adobe Reader 9

I am using Vista Ultimate x64 (SP1) using IE7. I am using the 32-bit version of the browser. I have selected "Display PDF in browser" on the Internet settings tab of the Adobe Reader 9.
Every time I select a PDF document, it forces me to save the document to the hard drive and open it from the hard drive. It will not open the PDF in the browser. How do I fix this problem??
The above procedure did work in Windows XP (32-bit), but does not appear to work in Vista (64-bit).

I have a similar problem using Adobe Reader 9 with Vista 64. I am also using the 32 bit version of IE7. Every time I click on a pdf to open in IE7 the screen remains white without starting Adobe Reader 9 in IE7 browser window.
Using Adobe Reader independantly works without any problem. Only the IE7 plugin does not seem to work. I reinstalled Adobe Reader 9 but without any effect. Adobe Reader 8 works. How comes?

  • Opening a browser to read an HTML file

I need to be able to open a browser to read an html file that I can specify. The HTML file probably, but not necessarily, reside on the same machine as the app.
I've looked through the APIs amd can't seem to figure this one out.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Do you really need to open a browser, or are you just wanting to bring the text of an HTML doc into your program? If by some chance it's the latter, then that can be done pretty easily with URLConnection.getInputStream()...

  • When I open the browser I get a timed out message and it doesn't finish loading.

When I click to open the browser It takes a long time then I get a timed out message. I was using 12 then down loaded Aurora and the problem is still there. It started out getting slower a couple weeks ago and then just quit working and now it won't work at all.

  • How can I stop Firefox from re-setting its internet connection configuration every time I re-open the browser? It should stay at "no proxy" but doesn't.

In the past couple of days, every time I close Firefox 8.0, it re-sets the internet configuration to "manual configuration" -- which generates a "proxy server refusing connections" error message. I have to re-set to "no proxy" every time I re-open the browser. This never happened before yesterday. What can I do to make the "no proxy" setting an automatic default on opening? ISP is Verizon high-speed.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
