Reader not open in working directory I specify in RDP settings

I am creating an RDP connection for our users to access training manuals.  I have set up Reader to open and have specified the working directory.  Reader opens successfully upon establishing the RDP session, but it defaults to the Documents folder.
Any help would be appreciated!

This is normal, though there is no fixed default and it varies by version. If it reliably opens in My Documents, put a shortcut there.

  • Context Menu Verb "Read" not "Open"

I have an application which uses ShellExecute(hWnd,"open",pFile,NULL,NULL,SW_SHOWMAXIMIZED ); to display attachments. The pFile can be any type of document including PDF. On a Vista machine with Adobe Reader (8,9, or 10) in the User's Temporary directory it does not work for PDF documents. When I right click the PDF document the Default Verb is "Read" not "Open". (If I replace the "open" in my call to "read" it works, but I can't do that is it can be an arbitrary attachment).
Looking in the Registry for the Shell verbs only "open" is entered. If I use "Open With" to set the default program to "Notepad" it opens the files in notepad. If I change it back to Adobe it goes back to "read".
I did not set this machine up and there could be some "interesting" permissions, security settings, but would these cause Adobe Reader to change the verb to "read" from "open"? (And if so, how do I remove the settings?). I am also running as administrator with full read/write access to the directory?
I trawled the Internet and could only find one other person with this problem, but no solution...

Any new results on this issue?
We could resolve what seems to be the same probleme by fixing the registry.
We had a domain user on a machine (Win 7/64bit) with only a "Read" entry in the context menu for pdf files.
Using ShellExecute('open'...)  in a similar use case we had the same result as ceeebeem.
Adober Read X is installed on all of our machines.
Other users - especially a "fresh" user - on the same machine haven't got this problem.
We started regedit for the specific user and found
         HKCR\.pdf\(standard) = pdf_auto_file
    Other users had:
         HKCR\.pdf\(standard) = AcroExch.Document
    The entries and subtrees under:
         HKCR\AcroExch.Document and
         HKCR\AcroExch.Document.7
    were identical for all users.
Reinstall or Repair the Acrobat Reader X did not solve the problem.
Also reassign the extension by "Open with..." did not work.
But deleting the "HKCR\.pdf" entrie for the specific user did the job.
After a registry refresh the .pdf-entry reappeard for this user as:
         HKCR\.pdf\(standard) = AcroExch.Document.
So this seems to be a problem of registry virtualisation.
(May be another program with not enough access right has produced this virtual HKCR\.pdf entry.
In our case the Foxit Reader was priviously installed (and later removed) on this machine. But this is just a guess.)
    EDIT:
Hm maybe editing HKCR was not a goog idea because according to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/256986/en HKCR is build from HKCU\Software\Classes and HKLM\Software\Classes. So values should be edited there...
But problem stays resolved, may ba as a side effect.

  • [Solved] a.out not recognizing the working directory

It's a little bit embarrassing because this issue doesn't seem terribly complicated, but I'm having trouble with executing the a.out file (Hello World) that gcc produces. I have to explicitly state the directory that a.out is in to run it, even though it's in the working directory. Other programs, such as Nano, recognize the working directory just fine and it is able to open files inside the working directory without having me explicitly state the full directory name.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The easiest and most secure way would be using the relative path to the executable:
    ./a.out
If you use a single directory for writing/testing your programs, you could add it to your user PATH. Not a major security risk, but if you do so, be careful what executables are in the dir.
    ~/.bashrc (or ~/.bash_profile):
    [[ -d ~/cpp ]] && export PATH="$PATH:~/cpp"
Adding the current working directory to PATH is a security risk, so I wouldn't recommend it.

  • Adobe reader not open the file immediately after saving it  with Microsoft Office

I have an older version Adobe Reader 9, and worked fine until today. I did the upgrade to Adobe Reader XI (11.0.06).
I have Window´s Office 2010 on my computer. When I save a document on *pdf file, Adobe starts automatically and open the document (Open file after publishing.) After the upgrade, documents are not open automatically and shows the next message:  "There was an error  during initialization. An internal error ocurrred." and  "There was an error opening this document. Access denied.". But if I try manually, files are open. How do I fix this problem.

I'm having a similar issue.  The .pdf files open fine locally, but when I put them up online, they will not open and I get the same error message.  If I download and save the files, they show a 1KB file size instead of 168KB.
Drive space is not an issue (looking at over 225GB of free space on the main drive).
In searching on-line, the main cause I am finding is receiving the file via e-mail and a decoding issue.  This is not the case with these files as they were created on my machine and uploaded using Filezilla to the server.  I'm using Acrobat Pro 7.0 on a windows box running Vista Ultimate.
Any ideas on what would be causing this issue?

  • Adobe Reader not opening PDF Portfolio - Flash player error

I have Acrobat 9 Standard installed on my PC and I created a PDF Portfolio. Acrobat Standard can open that Portfolio just fine.
I also have Acrobat Reader installed (11.0.2).and have Adobe Flash Player (11.7.700.169) installed. Both Reader and Flash Player work fine independently on PDF or Flash content.
However when I try to open the PDF portfolio with Reader, I get the following Error:
:"To view the Flash technology in this FDF file; please install this version of Flash player that supports Adobe reader and Acrobat".
The Dialog box with the message above has a [Proceed to download page] button (which does nothing but bring up Reader with a black page), a [Learn more] button (similar behavior), and a [Cancel] button.  Both Reader and Flash are the latest versions as of today (4/16/2013).
Any help or insight with this is appreciated.
    Thanks !

  • Adobe Reader not opening ezy TICKETS from Ticketek New Zealandfrom

Adobe Reader is not opening files I have received from Ticketek NZ called ezy tickets.
I have version Adobe Reader 11.0.0 on my IPAD which has IOS 5.1.1.  I get an error message saying that the file is not a valid PDF file.  This is very frustrating.

Yes it does open on my windows lap top with adobe reader.  My son however can't open it on his IPAD 4 with IOS 6 with adobe reader.  Interestingly he has opened PDF ezy Tickets from TICKETEK previously with his adobe reader on his IPAD but he gets the same error message I get with this particular ezy Ticket I have received this week.

  • After latest update, Itunes will not open unless I allow itunes to change screen settings on my laptop. How do I stop this?

I have upgraded to the new version of Itunes 11.1 and everytime I try to open it it asks me to allow changes to be made to my computer. If i click yes it changes my screen size to 64bit so I cant see half the page. If i change the settings back to normal it works until shut down itunes and the reverts back to odd settings. If i click no it will not open at all. Ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling but same thing keeps happening. Can anyone help me please?

Is iTunes endlessly saying "Accessing iTunes Store"? Or is something a bit different going on?

  • Reader not opening links in my PDF doc

I have an intranet site for our department and I want to link to our Policy & Procedures. The documents are broken down by chapters. So there's a Table of Contents PDF with links to each section (which are also in PDF form) and each section has a link back to the Table of Contents page.
The documents are located on our local server, so I created a link on the site for the Table of Contents that opens in Reader with no problem. The links are set to open a different document for each section, but there's only one link in the Table of Contents that works and opens the document. The other links for the different sections/pdf don't open at all. But if I go to the document location on our server and open it from there the links in the Table of Contents PDF work fine.
Any ideas what might be preventing me from opening the links when I download the PDF from the site?

    Nevermind! I figured it out!
When I downloaded it from the site, it went to my "Downloads" Folder where there was one other document (the one that was working) so it was able to access it since they're in the same folder, but it couldn't access the others cause they're not.

  • Full Acrobat Pro CS6 trial 32767 days left but not opening (printing working)

I have had this problem now 6 months. I have full Acrobat Pro CS6 with my Adobe CS6 Design & Web Premium packet. First I had unsolved problem to use CC with CS. I used 1h on phone with adobe help and no solution. After that I have had problem to use Acrobat and no will to try to solve it cause I'm so dissapointed with your support. But now I really need to get this work and use my acrobat pro I have paid for (too much)
Okay the problem seems to have something to do with CC and CS. I first hade CS and tried to install CC. No success before I unistalled CS6. Now I reinstalled CS6 and the Acrobat pro is not starting. It says I have 32767 days trial left and it does not let me use the trial. It just gives the trial window again and again. The adobe pdf-printing works if I just close the trial window. (Again there is some problem that i have to end acrotray process every time before printing).
I have tried all of this solutions for no help: http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/acrobat-failed-launch-30-days.html
I think the reason is that you try to hide too much **** in windows registers to get illeagal users not to use your products that paying customers get problems trying to use to legal products with different user at same computer.
other apps (ps, id, ai..) are working okay.
Any help or should I just reinstall my windows to clean the adobe **** from my computer.

Okay I now tried the solution 8 in Myleniums link: Reinstall Creative Suite.
No help. I tried to uninstall everything to do something with CS. I installed CS6 again and PS activates OK (some strange behavior. see below) and when I try to open Acrpbat pro X the same trial window appears not let me to use the acrobat.
I have had CS3 and CC installed on this computer. I think CC still interfere some how with my CS6. For example when I reinstalled CS6 still tried to activate with the account the CC was registered.
Maybe there is no easy way to get this Adobe **** working so I have to reinstall the windows. PLEASE ADOBE HELP ME TO PREVENT THIS.
