Reading AD Terminal Services attribute
Hi,
I am trying to read user profile from AD using JNDI code.Using the code I am able to read all the attributes except the terminal services attribute like TerminalServicesProfilePath. Can anyone tell me is it possible to read the value of these attributes using JNDI, if pssoible then how can we do this. Also if there is any othe way to acheive this.
TIA
If I remember correctly, there are no specific Terminal Services attributes that you can easily gain access to in Active Directory. Rather the terminal services user settings are stored in a binary blob of data stored in the userParameters attributes. (FYI, Historically this was to provide backwards compatibility for NT4 where Terminal Services, Remote Acess Services, Services for Netware and third party solutions (such as Lotus Notes) stored user settings in a NT4 domain property called userParams)
You may be able to access each Terminal Services setting in the binary blob either via a set of Terminal Services COM interfaces or from what I have read from a set of Windows Management Instrumenation (WMI) interfaces. Here is a useful link for you. http://blogs.technet.com/heyscriptingguy/archive/2008/10/23/how-can-i-edit-terminal-server-profiles-for-users-in-active-directory.aspx
BTW, You can access WMI which is the Microsoft implementation of Web Based Enterprise Management (WBEM) via Java. There is some crude sample code at http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5116320

Accessing Terminal Services Attributes from Active Directory LDAP property userParameters
After many years of complaints, Microsoft has done little to address the overwhelming outcry for information on the accessing the Terminal Services properties through LDAP.
I found this document that fully describes the Encode/Decode mechanism for the userParameters attribute.
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff635189.aspx
The property is used for more than terminal services, but even Microsoft is confused about it's use it would seem. I won't go into details, but for all those trying to access the terminal services attributes, this document should help.
I have not yet converted the mapping into a JAVA module, so please don't ask for help. I just need a more public place to put this, than the currently buried location at microsoft, to make for easier retrieval from the web community of java developers.Hi,
What about other changed attributes? Are other attributes retrieved by DirSync control turn to be encrypted form?

Amy

Reconcile AD Terminal Services attributes
Hi,
I am using AD connector 9.1.1 and wnat to reconcile Terminal Services attributes for a AD user but I do not want to use the remote manager.
Can anyone tell me is there any way by which we can reconcile these attributes without using Remote Manager
TIAOK, these are Microsoft names, their LDAP names don't have dashes. These attributes were added to AD schema in Windows Server 2003 but only exposed via LDAP in Windows 2008. See http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms675090%28VS.85%29.aspx for full list. To make them visible, you need to delegate control over these attributes to right user accounts or groups/OUs (via AD Users and Computers or by scripting).
Native Microsoft scripting tools use ADSI to manage these attributes (starting with Server 2003) and ADSI driver uses LDAP syntax but it's not the same thing as pure LDAP.
Before 2008, userParameters was used to store terminal services info. Actually, I dont know what 2008 does with these new attributes and how it works with userParameters, it's not documented well. -
Error Creating New User Accounts when Setting Terminal Services Attribute
We have just started receiving this error when new users are being created in our domain as part of the new hire process. Does anywhere have any pointers on where to look and what to look for?
ErrorError
com.waveset.util.WavesetException: WTSQueryUserConfig() failed - Attribute: 'Terminal Services Home Directory Drive' Error: The specified user does not exist.
Is this something that would indicate that AD isn't replicating across multiple domain servers yet, and thus when it tries to set this attibute this command isn't finding the account? If that is the case is there a way to have a retry put in?May I ask what version of IDM you're running?
There's a known bug that relates to this functionality. A quick review shows it's a pretty close match (not 100%) to what you described.
Bug 20728: Setting AD 'Terminal Services Local Home Directory' to null in IdM results in WTSSetUserConfig error
It's fixed in 8.1.0.3(or later), 8.0.0.10(or later), or 7.1.1.14(or later).
For the record, the latest IDM patches can be obtained here with valid credentials:

I am using dirsync to get the attributes value that have changed in Active Directory(changelog).
The following link explains how the dirsync is used to get attribute values :
I am changing the attribute Local path under Remote Desktop Services Profile of a user. I have ran a client which uses dirsync to get the changed objects in AD.
In the client the attribute that is changed is `userParameters` and the value is in encrypted form.

Getting Terminal Service Profile Path
We are provisioining users to the Active Directory. However, using Xpress/Java, how can the AD's Terminal Services Profile Path can be retrieved by IDM. Basically, i would like to retrieve this information before the the account is deprovisioned.
Edited by: user6420881 on 3/10/2010 23:45I dont see much hope with Java/Xpress to set the Terminal Services group of attributes.
There is no LDAP attribute named 'Terminal Services Profile Path' which is the problem. All these Terminal Services "attributes" are bundled up as a set of User Parameters. I think MS had to do this for historical reasons with NT4.
Unless the AD Gateway service has support for Terminal Services builtin (check the documentation) the only way I can see to set these is by Using Powershell or some MS script based solution called as an After Update or After create action. But that's setting only IDM -> AD.
Reading these strings back to IDM is hard.. maybe a Powershell script can decode the TS blob and store the strings in CustomAttributes ???
I know this TS stuff is a pain. -
AD User Recon of Terminal Services Profile Attributes
I am trying to get some of the Terminal Services Profile attributes to Reconcile to OIM during the AD User Reconciliation scheduled task. Other attributes sync fine, but the Remote Manager is never called to run the Recon vbs script. Looking at the Java for the AD User Recon scheduled task, I can find the method that should be called; getBLOBAttributeValues(). Funny thing is I can't find even one call to that method in any of the java code in the xliADRecon.jar file.
OIM 9.1.0.2 BP07
AD Connector 9.1.1.4
Looup.AD.BLOBAttribute.Values is configured with the attributes to sync
Lookup.ADReconciliation.FieldMap is configured with the attributes
The Resource Object has the fields defined for Reconciliation
The Process Definition has the fields mapped to the Process form attributes
Everything seems to be in place except there is no call to the getBLOBAttributeValues() method to call the reconciliation script via the remote manager.
What am I missing?
And BTW ... Provisioning of the attributes works fine, using the RManager.
Thanks,

VMM 2012R2 UR4 - Version 3.2.7768.0
Not sure when this started happening since I haven't had to update or create a new RunAs account in VMM in some time, but every time I do, either through the console or through PowerShell it throws an error about The specified directory service attribute
or value does not exist. The VMM Service account is the same as it always has been, and other than this issue everything with VMM is working fine. The full text of the error message is below.
I am hoping someone has some ideas because I don't have any more at this point.

Crystal Report and Terminal Service 2008 (registry trouble ?)
Hi to everyone,
I develop an account software that use Crystal Report to obtain reporting capabilities. My software supports three runtimes of Crystal Reports: release 8, release 9 and release XI.
The user can configure the application and choose which to use.
Some installations (of our customers) use Terminal Server features: the application is installed on the host pc (usually Windows Server 2003), and the clients (running XP) connect to the host and use the software via Terminal Service, and all works fine.
Recently one customer of ours has set up a Windows Server 2008, and troubles began ! ... the Crystal Reports runtime failed to function. Let me try to explain the scenarioes:
- Host PC with Terminal Service 2008
- User A on a PC with Windows XP
- User B on a PC with Windows XP
scenario 1, my application uses Cristal Report Runtimes XI
User A and B can correctly install the runtimes.
Both of the user cannot print reports due to a failure instantiatìing the COM components of Crystal Report.
scenario 2, my application uses Cristal Report Runtimes 9 ... the most funny
User A connect to the host, install the runtimes and start to use the application. All works fine.
User B connect to the host, install the runtimes and start to use the application. User B can use the application (and print reports) but suddenly the User A failed to print (failure instantiatìing the COM components of Crystal Report).
Well ... User A reinstall Crystal Reports library and newly register COM components, and the application newly works fine (and print reports correctly) ... but User B suddenly stop printing reports (the same error).
User B reinstall Crystal Reports library and newly register COM components, and the application newly works fine (and print reports correctly) ... but User A suddenly stop printing reports (the same error) ... and so on.
scenario 3, my application uses Cristal Report Runtimes 8
User A and User B can correctly install the runtimes and the software works fine !
Very funny beacuse ver. 8 of Crystal Reports Runtime are quite old, but they works properly instead of rel. XI (more recent) that doesn't work at all !
Crystal Report runtimes use heavily Windows Registry, and setting up those runtimes require a lot of registry update (due to COM interfaces); maybe there is some registry issue/trouble that scramble Crystal Report runtimes configuration ... the scenario 2 is quite bizarre and counfuse me !
Shall I need to configure some setting on Terminal Service 2008 ?
any idea ? thank you very much.
Paolo

Crash when returning from terminal services
I have an applet running on my XP system under 1.5.0_08. I remotely terminal service into the machine and things work fine with interacting with the applet. When I return to the local machine and login to display my existing session and start to interact with the applet window, the JVM crashes. I'm not sure if I have enough information to submit it yet. I hate when they do that, if you are going to write an application then support it.... At least help figure out why it's failing other than just saying it should work....
I would get on a call with them and get a Manager involved, someone there should be able to help you...
In the mean time:
First easiest way is search for crpe32.dll, there should only be one version and it should match the est of the file versions. Next step will tell you the versions being used.
OK, download [Modules|https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100006252802008E/modules.zip]. what this app will do is list all of the runtime files each user has access to. You can save and then compare the list files between the one working PC and any other user. Should help determine what is missing or the users profile doesn't have access to or not installed.
Another option is to use ProfileMonitor from Microsoft, it will list all access issues including the registry keys that all users need to run CR.
Can you tell me what version you are using?
Also need to know what version of TS?
OS it's running on?
And work station OS?
One more option, go to this link http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/advancedsearch?query=boj and search on "invalid tlv" and it will return a bunch of know reasons why you can get that error.
Thanks
Don

Printing to a Deskjet 1000 from a terminal services session (2003) on my XP laptop.
The printer is a CH340-64001 and it works fine on an XP laptop. When an attempt is made to use it during a terminal services session it fails because Server 2003 does not have the drivers for the printer.
When I try to run the installation from the CD I get a message that the operating system is not compatible.
Is there any way to install the XP drivers to Server 2003 or does the printer need to be replaced with another model? There isn't a way, that I know of, to get the printer's XP drivers to work with Server 2008. However, there is an alternate driver that you can try using. It's the Deskjet 990c driver. It's a generic inkjet driver that works with most inkjet printers. It should work with the printer you're using. That's really the only thing I can think of that might work.

Microsoft SQL 2005, Terminal Services and Tiger
We found a great application we need to use at work. Unfortunately, it runs only on Windows. We will need to run it on a Windows server, running SQL Server 2005, and Macs interacting with it using MS Terminal Server. At least that is what someone at Dell said. This ends up being a huge and complicated purchase for us.
All this is totally foreign to me. I set up our Mac network, using OSX Server 10.2, migrating up to 10.4. We have 16 computers on the network, and it runs reasonably well. I did not need months of training to set it up. There are many things I do not understand and features that I have zero idea about...but for email, web, ftp and application serving, it works well.
We have 13 Macs, 2 Windows boxes and one UNIX box on the network.
Has anyone used SQL 2005? Has anyone had to connect thru Terminal Services to a Windows Server?Hi John!
Using Terminal Services on a Windows server is common in corporate environments and solves a lot of issues where Macs can't run Windows-only software.
Since the Windows server will be the only Windows machine on your network and you only need it for a specialized purpose, you can probably get by with purchasing Windows Small Business Server Premium, which comes with a SQL Server. You'll have to ask the vendor if this version will work with their product. See this link on Microsoft's website http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/sbs/default.mspx.
Many third party database applications will facilitate the setup of the datbase with the SQL server, but they won't support the SQL software and its security. I'd advise hiring a contractor to help with the installation and setting up a backup (preferably someone that can become familiar with your environment and provide ongoing support).
Hope this helps! bill

Hi,
We are not using Lync internally. But some of my users need to attend Lync 2013 meetings. We run a Windows 2008 R2 Terminal Services/XenApp environment. Users are not allowed to install applications.
In the past, I was able to install administratively a Lync 2010 attendee client.
How do I enable my users to attend a Lync 2013 meeting?
Thanks. This is not viable. I don't know which user is going to be attending Lync meetings from suppliers or customers ahead of time and have no contacts to request a test meeting. This is a loop. How does Microsoft expect sysadmins to support their products if
the client software is not easily available.
At this point if I have a user who needs this, I will only know about it after the meeting has failed. At that point the user is not very receptive to the idea of involving his contact in troubleshooting and setting up test meetings. It's even worse if it's
an executive.
Is there any way of pre-installing the pre-requisites for attending Lync 2013 meetings?
My only choice is to inform my user community that we have no way of supporting Lync and request that they use GotoMeeting or WebEx with their contacts who try to do a Lync meeting.
I am very disappointed in Microsoft's approach with Lync 2013.
Thanks for your time. -
How to change path of Users Terminal Services Profile for multiple AD users on server 2003?
Hello experts. I am working on a file server migration. All data has been migrated, I am currently working on redirecting users to the new file server. I
am able to select multiple users at once in ADUC -> right-click -> properties -> profile and here I can change the home folder and roaming profile path for each all users to point towards the new file server.
The issue I have run in to is that we have roaming profiles for terminal services users. So, there are hundreds of users that have their terminal services profile
configured in AD -> Right-click user (one at a time) -> properties -> terminal services profile. Here, the profile path is configured for each user as \\OLDserver\Profiles\%username%
and I need to change it to \\NEWserver\profiles\%username%.
I know that you can configure this path via group policy, I set up a GPO; Computer / Administrative Templates / Windows Components / Terminal Services / “Set Path
for TS Roaming Profiles” as \\NEWserver\profiles and applied this GPO to an OU containing the TS servers.
The problem is, the GPO is not working... When I log in to the TS and add a document to My Documents, it is still saving under \\OLDserver\profiles\Username.
So, the settings in AD are trumping the GPO I believe. What is the best way to accomplish my goal? Thanks in advance!> to change it to \\NEWserver\profiles\%username%.
That is "profile" in opposite to...
> add a document to My Documents, it is still saving under
> \\OLDserver\profiles\Username.
...this one which is Folder Redirection and has NOTHING to do with
server based profiles.
> So, the settings in AD are trumping the GPO I believe.
No, it isn't. When you do not enable FR and you access "Documents", you
will never see an UNC path but the local c:\users\xyz\documents folder.
