Reading all FP-TB-10 channels -- analog/ digital, whatever -- with optomux vis

Hi,
I am in the process of writing an efficient acquisition routine for accessing I/O
channels on a FP1001/FP-TB-10 from a cFP2020. (earlier posts here by me
dealt with the problems associated with the less-than-ideal means of getting
to these remote channels versus local I/O)
I have reviewed and played with the example vi's for accessing analog/digital
input/output dual-channel modules on the FP-TB 10, and have found them to
be far more general-purpose and computationally intensive than my hard-coded
application requires.  As a result, I would generally like to do a bulk read of all
channels, rather than a pair at a time and format the results according to what I
know each channel to be.
If I use the (!G)Read16BitDataWithStatus with all channels targeted and ranges
defined, including the output channels, will I get all of my data, digital or analog?
Will I get the last written value on the outputs, as I do on cFP2020 outputs when
I configure them in the .iak and use FP read?  Or is there a better VI to work with?
I almost hesitate to ask if I can do the same for write, e.g.
I can play with this and figure it out eventually, but I only have access to the
fieldpoint a few hours a week, so knowing in advance how things work is quite helpful.
Bob

Graziano,
Your message is very interesting...
Modules upstream and downstream of the problem module are all working fine.  Their ready lights are "on" and I can access them from the NI software.
However, prior to the current state, the module in question had slightly different behaviour.   Upon power-up, the ready light would come "on" but some-time later (~5 minutes or so) after I tried to start the control software the software would give an error message and when I looked back at the hardware the ready light was now "off".  Thinking I might have a loose connection somewhere, I poked around and noticed that the module right next to the problematic module would "change state" when I jostled it.  By "changing state" I mean the channel LED's changed from on/off to off/on - so it looked like I did have a poor connection; maybe on the backplane line.  I tried to improve the connections on THAT module and it now behaves in a normal manner.
Thanks.

  • Determining Analog Signal Frequency with Prebuilt VIs

Don't know what is wrong with this code.  Am trying to determine the frequency of a signal from an analog signal (paddlewheel flowmeter).  As a starting point, I'm using a simulated square wave with the "Timing and Transition Measurements" VI and am getting following error:
    ~~~~~~~~
    Error -20308 occurred at Timing and Transition Measurements -> frequency_determination_example.vi
    :3"  (waveform index 0 of 1)
    Possible reason(s):
    Analysis:  The waveform did not cross the mid reference level enough times to perform this measurement. Check the signal length, reference levels, and ref level units.
    ~~~~~~~~~
However, there seems to not be any options in the "Timing and Transition Measurements" VI to set mid reference levels.
Any insight into why this simple problem is occuring would be appreciated.  Attached is my program's simple code.

    Hi,
Dennis was right (without looking at the code). You generate one (1) square wave, if you had generated 1000 sampled you'd get the correct answer.

  • Read all items when when item-level permissions set

I have a SharePoint 2010 list where the general user population should be able to submit and read only their own items.
    Item-level permissions set as follows:
Read access : Read items that were created by the user
Creaed and Edit access : Create items and edit items that were created by the user
    That works fine.
Now, I have a small group of power users that need read-access to all list items. I can do that by granting 'Contribute' permissions, but I don't want them to be able to modify items, so I prefer granting only read permissions. When I do that, they can't
see all the items due to the item-level permission settings.
Is there a permission level that I can use (perhaps a custom permission level) that enables a read-all (and overrides the item-level permission)?

With these specific settings, there are not. It is possible to do security through obscurity by only showing views that allow the users to see their items and use audience targeting for the others, but that is not true security, so it will depend on your
    requirements.

  • How do I read an AI and DI channel simultaneously in Daqmx?

I'm trying to do something very simple: read a single AI channel and a single DI channel with Daqmx and display them on a waveform chart. It's not working. I'm doing something wrong and none of the sample codes available in the Knowledge base cover an analog input and a digital input. I'm trying to read continuously at 250 samples per second, align the timestamps and display the result on a waveform chart. The analog data shows up twenty seconds later than the digital data when I get anything at all. Please take a look at my diagram and tell me what is wrong. The device is a USB-6218 running on a laptop running Windows XP and LabVIEW 8.2.

Could you provide some actual values for sample rate and number of samples instead of those silly globals? Also, you have nothing to configure the digital timing.
I also don't understand your comment about not being able to find an example. There's one called Multi-Function-Synch AI-Read Dig Chan. It's under Hardware Input and Output>DAQmx>Synchronization>Multi-Function. Try that.

  • How to make digital/analog outjack woorking with analog spea

    Hi,
    I use soundblaster audigy .
I try to get my analog speakers working with the analog/digital outjack. I connected the speakers to this outjack but no sound at all. I can switch at advanced volumesetting to digital only but I just get some wired static noise. If disable analog only on advanced setting of my volume control the speakers are comletely quiet.
I know there is anohter outjack for analog speakers on this card but this one is used already for my first pair of speakers.
    can anyone help me?
    thanks a lot.

But you might be right. However I pass my problem right now with a splitter. It's not the best solution but it works somehow.
In addition to what Jason say, you could also try connecting your other speaker to the LIN_OUT2 jack of the sound card and set it up like a 4. speaker. Remember to enable the CMSS feature from PlayCenter.

The reason I asked how long ago, since you said "just upgraded", when I've upgraded and the accounts are syncing back, the Hub and deletes and mark read is all sluggish for, sometimes, up to 30 minutes afterwards, could be an hour according to what all is syncing and your data speed, on wifi or not, etc.
Sometimes, I've even seen the delete and mark read icons not even present for an hour or so after.

  • Digital Signatures with Adobe Reader

So i created an adobe form with acrobat 9 and sent it out for all to digitally sign.  about half are getting an error when they try to sign it.  "The credential selected for signature is invalid"
We are a government agency and use Common Access Cards (CAC) certificates to digitally sign with.
i was hoping someone out there could either point me to a good recource for adobe and digital signatures or to a possible fix.
now we have narrowed it down to the problem being with the specific machine.  the user can digitally sign the document on another machine, but not on thier own machine.  Also, no one else can sign the doc on thier machine either.
    Thanks in advance!

issue still exists.  ive been searching for some info on how adobe handles digital signatures, like what folders are created on the machine.  im thinking maybe i can clear out the app data for acrobat or something.  im at a loss at the moment.

  • Shared variable RT FIFO (multi element) - Read all at once

    Hi all!
I'm trying to collect data from analog inputs on my cRIO with a 1 sec time step. For that purpose I use a Timed loop and a shared variable with RT FIFO enabled (multiple array of doubles). Parallel to the timed loop, I also use a while loop that is significantly slower (lets say 10 sec period) that should read all arrays stored in FIFO and write them down in a .txt file (everything is executed locally on RT target). Is there a way to empty the RT FIFO shared variable at once, and if no how can I get a number of arrays that are currently stored in a shared variable?
What is the difference between RT FIFO created by a shared variable and the one created using Real-Time/RT FIFO palette? I prefer using shared variable instead of Real-Time/RT FIFO since it also allows timestamping.
    Best regards,
    Marko.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Marko,
We recommend that the non-deterministic loop run faster than your deterministic loop and pull off samples when they become available. If you don't want to do this, you can simply put your RT FIFO read in a For Loop set to execute 10 iterations and then place that in your while loop. For more information on the differences between the RT FIFO and Shared Variables with RT FIFO enabled, please see pages 32-35 of the CompactRIO Developers Guide linked below.

  • Analog Source Triggering with more than one channel in channel list

    Hello,
I am trying to use an analog reference trigger with a channel list that contains more than one entry using a
M Series 6289. I am aware that this is generally not possible to have more than one channel in the list due to hardware limitations. I was hoping if some sort of workaround exists.
I am using the NIDAQmx C API to control the card.
Using a second card that is syncronized via RTSI should
allow me to use an analog reference trigger to control multiple analog IO channels ... Right ???
    Thanks for any advice!
    Best regards
    Peter

    Hello Peter,
If you look at the NI-DAQmx Help, Analog Triggering Considerations for E Series, M Series, and S Series Devices section, it says that to pause multiple channels with an Analog trigger, you must wire that signal to APFI0 or APFI1. Therefore, it is possible to perform this operation.
If you are sharing the AI Sample Clock across RTSI, then you would be able to stop multiple AI channels across multiple devices with the one Analog Reference Trigger.
    I hope this helps,
    Sean C.

    Before Posting:
Is your sound card not working? Do you need advice on what to try to fix it? Then you are at the right place. Before posting your question, there are a few things you will want to check first.
Perhaps your question has already been asked and answered. Thousands of questions have been asked and are all stored here on the forums. Right above that orange navigation bar is the search bar, try searching for what you are experiencing. If there is a thread but it doesn't answer your question, check the date, if it is several weeks since the last reply it would be better to name a new thread then resurrect the dead thread.
Also before posting collect as much information about your card as possible. Get the model number off of the card/device itself and also the inkstamp number (found on an inkstamp or silkscreen on the non-chip side of the card) if you have a sound card. Please note that if you have a card that was preinstalled in your computer by the manufacturer or you bought the card in a brown box or static bag that it is most likely an OEM card. In cases like these it may be best to contact the retailer or the manufacturer (don't forget to check their forums if they have them) for support as the cards can be very different from the retail versions.
    Lost CD, Need Drivers:
Standalone drivers are available for many of our sound cards and devices on our website. The best way to check is to go to Support/Downloads and select your product from the list and click next. Then you select your Operating System from the drop box (keep the other options on their defaults) and click go. The very first section should be the driver listings. Just because a driver says that it is an update, doesn't mean that it isn't a standalone driver. The best way to check is to click on the details button and read the requirements section. If it doesn't say that it requires previous drivers then it is most likely stand alone and is worth installing. These standalone drivers usually include a configuration utility called "CTpanel.exe" that a quick search of your drive after install will locate. You can use this to set the card up.
If your card does not list standalone drivers then you will want to contact support to obtain an install CD.
If your card is OEM, you will need to contact the manufacturer of your system or the retailer you purchased it from for the install CD. There can be major differences between retail and OEM models and the retailer or manufacturer are provided with drivers specific to the card they are distributing.
    Standard Troubleshooting:
If you are going to ask a question, there are a few standard troubleshooting steps that are suggested for almost any problem. You should really check them out before posting a question as it can save you a lot of time waiting on replies.
First off, try a cleansweep and reinstall of your card. Often all that the card needs is a fresh start. The steps for this are found in these Knowledgebase articles:
Uninstalling Sound Blaster Drivers and Applications(Windows Vista)
    Uninstalling Creative Disc Detector
    Uninstalling Sound Blaster PCI Cards
Uninstalling PCMCIA Sound Blaster Devices in Windows XP
Uninstalling ExpressCard Sound Blaster Devices in Windows XP
If that doesn't work, not all is lost. There are many standard troubleshooting steps that are used for almost all problems. Fortunately we have a separate Kbase article that covers these steps. It even has suggestions for specific problems. Here is that link:
    http://support.creative.com/kb/showa....aspx?sid=2538
Popping Clicking, Hissing, and Other Sound anomalies:
Perhaps your question is about a popping, clicking, or hissing sound that your card seems to be generating. If so, then this article is for you. The sound optimization article:
    http://support.creative.com/kb/showa...aspx?sid=46913
    If Nothing Above Works:
One last thing to try would be to clean boot your version of Windows. Perhaps an application is getting in the way of the card working correctly. Try it and see if the card works when clean booting into Windows. If so then something that is starting up is interfering with the card.

"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies - 'God [darn] it, you've got to be kind."

There's a small discussion on the Asus forums about this issue here:
    http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?id=20052602425373&board_id=&model=A8V&pa ge=&SLanguage=en-us
I'm extremely certain this has nothing to do with Creative. I recently tried a Turtle Beach Riviera 5. sound card in my Asus A8V board with the same poor result. Onboard sound works fine as long as you remove the PCI card. Oddly, the four sound cards I've tried (three by Creative) work fine on the same MB using Windows 98. Only Windows XP has this issue, but since it works fine if you restart/wake up from standby/or hit F0 after entering the BIOS, it's obviously directly related to the BIOS.
Since this problem has gone on for so long with no acknowledgment from Asus, I'm not very hopeful this will ever get fixed. I've considered trying an M-Audio Revolution 5. and see if that works, but I know it's a long shot. I'm also not sure if I want to risk close to $00 on a sound card that I figure has a 0% chance of working.
(If ANYONE out there in the world has a sound card that works with games on an Asus A8V - please, please, pretty please post in this forum so we can all go out and get it!)
It absolutely amazes me that a problem this significant slipped by Asus during their supposed "4,000 dedicated man hours" of testing!

  • Reenable all un-checked audio channels

I am starting to work with an audio engineer on my film.
The edit contains mostly compound clips, each consisting of a video track synced with a bunch of audio. Most clips have a camera audio track, boom, and some lavs - each in it's own mono or stereo channel of a larger compound clip.
As I've been editing, I have been turning some channels off. Sometimes the camera audio is terrible or a lav has lots of clothing noise.
But as I hand off the locked edit to the audio engineer, I want to give her ALL of the audio, even if it was unchecked.
Other than selecting each individual clip, does anyone know hoe to re-enable ALL of the UNchecked channels in my compound clips?
If I select multiple clips, the options for the channels are greyed out in the audio settings. If I show all audio components, the Unchecked ones do not show in the timeline.
If the only way is to select each clip, does anyone know a keyboard shortcut for selecting clips in the timeline?

  • Fetch and peak detection all channels of PXI-5105 with 4M record... HELP!

    Dear collegaues!
Please help me to improve performance my application, see attachment, and sorry for my English.
So, my task is to fetch and peak detection all (eight) channels of PXI-5105 with 4M record and sample rate 4M with loop 1 sec...
Inputs of all my channels are wiring to NaI detectors with 0,5...1 microsec of pulse width (really) and freq from 0 kHz to no more than 40 kHz.
Why I've selected 4M record and 4M sample rate namely? Answer is that I've tested PXI-5105 previously by generator 40 kHz and 0,5 microsec width pulse. It is working fine and peak detection indicate for me 40000 pulses/sec. If I set lower than 4M record and 4M sample rate it is no working. In my honest opinion 4M record and 4M sample rate are very min settings.
In the present time peak detection working only 6 channels... When I've connected to diagram more than 6 "peak detector.vi" - I see the error "...out of memory...".
Please advise me, what is to be done for that is all working fine.

What you are running into is an out of memory error in LabVIEW.  You have enough onboard memory to capture 4M samples per channel on the digitizer.  The issue is with fetching and manipulating that data in your LabVIEW application.  You will want to step back and take a look at how you are handling your data to understand why that is happening.
    1) 4M samples/ch = 4M Samples x 2Bytes/sample/ch = 8M Bytes/ch
    2) Expanding to 8 channels creates 64M Bytes of data in the raw binary format
    3) You are scaling your data by fetching in a 1D WDT format.  This stores each sample in a 32 bit double, expanding the memory to 256M Bytes (in addition to timing information)
    4) By splitting up the array of waveforms and branching data it you can easily create copies of this data, and if your consumer loop is not completed with the last data, you may be trying to capture a whole new set, creating yet another copy.
So you can see that while you have 1.5GB of controller memory, when dealing with large arrays of data you can easily eat up that memory.  There are several things you can try to make your application more efficient.  You could work with an unscaled binary data format, you can wire the array of waveform directly to the peak detect vi (instead of creating 8 copies, you will have a single copy with arrays of output) or you could revisit the record size you have chosen (experimenting with your threshold and width settings might help you to get the results you want with smaller record lengths).
