Reading data from Print based PDF form

We have a requirement to send our PDF output for Payslips generated using Adobe forms to a thirdparty for printing. They require a way of knowing the value of certain fields in the PDF as part of the printing/sorting process and also know where each payslip ends (i.e. 1 PDF file with multiple payslips, each payslip can be a variable number of pages).
Is this type of information still accessible in the PDF by default?
If not can it be embedded?
What tools/language APIs can be used to inspect the PDF for this type of data.

hmmm.. that's a good question and could be handy - they wouldn't have to use some sort of OCR technology.
you'd probably find a better answer on Adobe's Forum for something this specifically related to the form
you can find it [here|http://forums.adobe.com/community/livecycle]
There are many Livecycle forums - looks like LiveCycle Designer ES is the most used.
Also, there's a gmail group you can join which is pretty active.

  • Reading data from pdfsource of adobe form

    Friends,
    This error pertains to the retrieving data when executing the WDA application.
    System details: NetWeaver 2004s. ADS support pack 16.
    The Adobe Livecycle Designer version: 7.1.3129.1.296948
    The Adobe Reader version: 8.1
    The SAP GUI version: 710.
    The Web Dynpro component is active.
    The Custom Adobe Form is active and is of ZCI layout type. I also inserted the Web Dynpro Script in the layout of the form.
    The Custom Form Interface is active and is of XML Schema-Based Interface type. The XML schema source is generated.
    The Adobe form has been included as an InteractiveForm UI element in the MAIN view of the WD Component. The displayType property of the InteractiveForm UI Element has been set to "native" and enabled property of the form is checked.
    I have included an attribute of type XSTRING called 'USERDATA' under the root context node and set it as pdfsource for the adobe form UI element.
    I have included the "Submit" button from web dynpro native library in the form.
    I have created a event handler method for the "onSubmit" event of the Adobe form UI element. I have created a reference to the context node 'ZECR' that is the datasource for the adobe form, through the following lines:
    data: noderef type ref to if_wd_context_node,
    eleref type ref to if_wd_context_element.
    noderef = wd_context->get_child_node( name = 'ZECR' ).
    when i run the WDA application, i am getting the error:
    Subnode MAIN.USERDATA does not exist
    Please let me know to rectify this error.
    I am not sure how to proceed further ie how to retrieve the data from the XSTRING attribute. I need to populate the data from the attribute to a customized table.
    Any hints or help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks and Regards.

    Hi Mahesh,
    I got the code from wizard using Read Context and selected the node.
    The error is removed.
    Here is the code in the onSubmit event handler method:
      DATA lo_el_context TYPE REF TO if_wd_context_element.
      DATA ls_context TYPE wd_this->element_context.
      DATA lv_userdata LIKE ls_context-userdata.
    get element via lead selection
      lo_el_context = wd_context->get_element(  ).
    get single attribute
      lo_el_context->get_attribute(
        EXPORTING
          name =  `USERDATA`
        IMPORTING
          value = lv_userdata ).
    I understand data has to be read from lv_userdata parameter using a function module. Is there any standard function module for the same and what are the steps for the process.
    Any hints or help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks and Regards.

  • How to read data fra adobe interactive pdf form into WDA context?

    Hi,
    I have a pdf form which is pre filled with some data and then the user has the opportunity to add some data to the pdf form.
    I want to retrieve this data into my context without having to add a button into the pdf form which will send back data to WDA. Currently i am using pdfSource but it is not updating the context.
    If needed i can change to use dataSource/templateSource instead of pdfSource.
    Thanks

    I don't think that link will help. The PDF Source isn't updating either on data entry into the form
    The issue here is that the Adobe form does not update the SAP context until you tell it to do so. You really need to trigger an event in the form to cause that update, a button as previously mentioned is one amongst many ways of doing this.

  • Read data from picture

    i would liek to read data from a picture in form of numbers,
    the picture is of a light spot so the numbers are high in the centre where the spot is concentrated,
    what i would like to do is get a gradient in x and y of the max point , and then plot this gradiant in an intensity graph for both x vs mm and y vs mm.
    any tips?

    Hi,
    I believe that the gradient at any given point will be a vector of the gradient in each dimension so i would have thought that you could use the standard differential VIs and find the gradient a row at a time in the x and then the y direction.  Is this what you are after?  Im afraid that my matricies maths isn't coming back to me very well so I'm not sure if there is a function to do it with these a but none of them jumped out at me.

  • Multiple print for pdf form retains the value from previous!

    Hello All,
    We have developed Adobe Print Forms for our business requirements.
    When we try to print these forms from the direct transaction, it prints fine. But when we try to select multiple forms to be printed with one transaction, the pdf form generated has data from all the selection!
    Eg: Form printed properly for Delivery Note through transaction VL02N.
    The same form when we try to print for multiple deliveries from transaction VL71, i retains the data and prints one huge form having all delivery data!!
    Please help us out in this issue and let us know what is tha we are missing in this process!
    Thanks a lot for your time and help.

    Hi ,
    i think that the problems comes form the data you give to the form, do you make a refresh of internal table before populated them ...

  • I have a acrobat reader, can I import text delimited data format to a PDF Form so that it can auto fill into forms that was created? If not, what about FDF and XML data

    I have a acrobat reader, can I import text delimited data format to a PDF Form so that it can auto fill into forms that was created? If not, what about FDF and XML data

    Yes, you can do all of that via Tools - Forms - More Form Options - Import Data, if you have Acrobat.
    If you only have the free Reader then you can still do it, but it requires a script.

  • Adobe offline form with capablity to read data from a local data base.

    Hi ,
            We have customer requirement for a offline Adobe form which will be used by Sales rep, this form when saved to the local hard disk is required to read data from another local data base available in the laptop  and prefill a few fields in the form .
    Is this requirement technically feasible using Adobe forms?
    Thanks
    Srikanth S

    Well may be it's possible because if you go to the Data View in ALD and create a new Data Connection --> OLEDB database --> Build --> It gives you various options for connecting to different DBs but frankly speaking I have never tried it.
    Check the ALD help for more information on the topic.

  • We want to read data from weigh bridge and display in oracle forms & store

    Sir/Madam,
    in our organisation we had one requirement. i.e is reading data from weigh bridge using serial port, displying that data in oracle forms and when ever user click save button we store that into my oracle database. we are using oracle 8i and forms 6i and windows OS environment. we don't know reading data from serial port and placing that into form items. please help me as early as possible if there is any property available in d2k regarding this requirement .
    thank you,
    vishnu

    There's no property in Forms that makes you read serial ports, but as far as I know you need to know the API of the machine which you want to read data from (it should come with machine's manual) and then it will be easy to store it in forms item.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Few quick checks to identify the cause -
    1. Are you able to run report in your R2 system?
    2. In XI3.1, check SIA running on which account.
    3. Check the acount have sufficient rights on file system and registry.
    4. What's your web server?
    Give proper rights and import again. Hopefully it will resolve.

  • Is it possible to designate stapling when printing a PDF form?

    I am using Adobe Lifecycle Designer (ver. 10.0.1029120306.1.870331) to set up a new report for an SAP application.  I can certainly designate duplex printing from within the form by using Form Properties and the PDF Print Options, but no stapling option can be found.  Is this possible?  Is there a way to set this up from within the PDF form?  If not within the form, what have others found to work for their environment?  We are using Xerox GPD PS printers here and they certainly offer the stapling feature.
    Thanks for any suggestions...Pat

    OK...it has been a wild ride, but between our Basis team and the Server team (which handles our printer drivers), here is what they came up with to enable this feature.  They really put in the time to figure this out.  References to PRD in this document is a reference to our production machine.  ZPMLOCL is a printer type used by our users for printing these work order forms.  A lot of effort was also given to make sure the driver on the printer supported the stapling feature (most do anymore).  This effort is to not only allow stapling, but to also eliminate the pesky banner page which can suddenly start printing with these changes.  We are using Xerox printers in our evironment.
    Steps for Basis Portion of PRD change on the - Standard Work Order Form - shop paper document
    (STMS) Transport device type ZPMHPLJ4 to PRD with Transport
    SPAD
    Change device type of printer ZPMLOCL from SAPWIN to ZPMHPLJ4.
    Click on access method tab and change access method to G: (Front End Printing with Control Tech).
    Confirm the "No device Selection at frontend" checkbox is selected.
    Hit the Save button.
    Copy  zpmhppcl5e.xdc file from AD1 to ADS, in the location below.
      4. SA38/SE38* run program RSPO0022 on PRD and Check to see if transport from step 1 moves the assignment below.
          If not create assignment the same as in the red box  below.
      5. Finally, stop and then start the XML Form Module Java Service in ADS.
    I have no other notes on this setup.  I hope this helps you in your efforts to get the stapling feature up and running on your system.

  • Reading Data from CSV file

    Hi Guys,
    I am trying to read data from a CSV file character by character. Whats the best way to do this? Any examples around?
    Thanks
    tzaf

    Does this mean your file will have multiple lines? And each line would indicate a new record? If so, you should use the BufferedReader and take in each line as a String. Then you can use the StringTokenizer to separate your string into tokens using the comma as your delimiter. From there you can convert the string tokens into whatever form you like, but by default they are already in String form. To make it an Integer I'd use Integer.parseInt().
    I will show you some code on how to get the values from your file using the BufferedReader and the StringTokenizer but what you do with those values afterwards I'm going to leave up to you.
    File csvfile = new File("myfile.csv");
    byte[] fileBuf = new byte[1024];     // buffer for file data
    int bytesRead = 0;               // number of bytes read
    try
         BufferedReader fileIn = new BufferedReader( new FileReader( csvfile ));
         PrintStream out = new PrintStream( System.out );
         String readLine;     // stores a line from the file as a string
         while( (readLine = fileIn.readLine()) != null )
              StringTokenizer tokens = new StringTokenizer( readLine, ",", false);
              // false means you don't want to count the commas, only the values
              while( tokens.hasMoreTokens() )
                   String aValue = tokens.nextToken();
                   // ... do what you want with the value
                   // ... change to Integer or whatever
                   out.println(aValue); // Printing the value to the screen
         fileIn.close();
    }Good luck,
