Reading Large Videos from Varbinary(max) SQL2005

We  are storing some somewhat large (15-20MB) videos files in an SQL 2005  table within a varbinary(max) type column.  The video files are used and  displayed in our CMS web application which is written in Coldfusion.   Retrieving the videos with a standard SQL select statement through  Coldfusion is very slow.
Does anyone know if there is a way to  speed up the retrieval of the data through Coldfusion, SQL Server, T-SQL, or a cfobject call to .NET?
I appreciate all  suggestions.
Thanks ahead of time!

I'll make the suggestion but I imagine you may already have a reason you're not doing it... take the videos out of the database, put them in a specific folder (ex: /mysite/videos/ or even outside of the webroot if you want to hide them) and use a column in your database that points to the actual path/filename of the video. I believe most developers just reference media (images/videos/pdfs) by their paths in a database.

Thanks for the reply.  Ive decided to go the file system route as you were suggesting below.  Seems like the only real answer until we upgrade to SQL 2008, which has the FILESTREAM data type.

  • How can i transfer large video from my iphone

I have a large video on my iphone 4s that will not transfer by E-mail, Facebook, Utube, text or USB. When I plug in the USB to my computer it will upload everything except my video it remains on my phone. I really need this video for a student is there a way to get it from my phone to a computer?

Is your computer a Windows PC running XP?

Windows XP cannot import video files larger than 500 MB using Camera and Scanner Wizard. You can transfer these files directly from your device by selecting them in My Computer and dragging or copying the movie files to your computer's hard drive.

  • Cannot transfer large video from iPhone 4S

    Hi all,
I have an iPhone 4S and recently shot a video which turned out to be about 50 minutes.
Now, I'm trying to transfer it to my Mac to free up space on my phone, but when I try to download it through iPhoto/Image Capture, the video doesn't come up at all in the list - the video is fine IMG_521, but the items skip from IMG_520 to IMG_522, not allowing me the option to download the video to my Mac at all.
I can view the video just fine on my iPhone and the three files preceding the large video are all 2-8 minute videos and have downloaded perfectly fine on to my Mac.
The video is really important but is taking up so much space on my iPhone - so, any help would be hugely appreciated.

You might try Phone View (http://www.ecamm.com/mac/phoneview/).

  • HT201302 Transferring large video from iPad to PC - copying file on computer didn't work

I tried connecting my iPad to the PC and dragging the file. It transfers but the file is empty (0 bytes). I'm running XP and the video is 790KB. I may need to compress it on the iPad before transfer? Any ideas? Going to try downloading to another PC NOT running XP next.
    I also tried:
--transferring the video via a USB port but the device wasn't recognized on the iPad
--uploading directly to YouTube via wireless and it shows up there but I can't open the file

  • Copy large videos from iphone 3gs to windows

    Hi,
I have a large 750 mb video on my phone that I am trying to copy to the computer. I have tried using the camera and scanner wizard and copy/paste in windows explorer but neither of them works. It produces a 0kb file on the computer. I have been able to successfully transfer videos upto 400 MB but this one doesn't seem to work. I googled around and other people seem to have the same problem but was unable to find a solution.
    Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks!

The size of the file shouldn't make any difference as long as there is room on your PC for it. What I do is use the Camera Wizard and select the open to view files option. From there I just click on the files to locate the video I want to copy and either drag it to where I want it on the PC or copy and paste it there. If it's a larage file it may take a few seconds to copy over.

  • Retrieving large video from icloud

I currently have a 23 min ipad video saved on the cloud.  I have tried to download it multiple times and it is erring out and failing to download.  I currently do not have this any any other devices (only icloud).  How can I get this to download or get a copy of the video?

The problem is that if you remove it from your iPad, then it also gets removed from iCloud, so it's starting to sound as though the version you are trying to download from the cloud is some sort of incomplete or corrupt remnant and not really there (at least in it's entirety)

  • Can not import large videos from iphone to MAC or PC.

When I try to import photos from my iPhone 4s to my MAC (with iPhoto) or PC(with explorer) I got no problem at all but with videos larger than 2-3 gb, I receive the message:iPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem downloading an image. Anyone has an idea how to overcome this?

Use Image Capture to upload the video files to a folder on the Desktop and import into iPhoto from there.

  • Will Compressor help me get a larger video from FCPX to Vimeo?

I have a couple of family videos on FCPX.  After trying to download to Vimeo I figured out the videos are too large, 8:41 Thinking about buying Compressor.   Would that help with the problem?  Thanks in advance.

FCP gives several export sizes for Vimeo sharing – from SD to 1080P. Possibly the 960X540 size may work, if you haven't tried it already.
Compressor does give you more control – adjusting data rate, frame rate and frame size to better determine size–quality trade-offs.
