Reading NIFTI (MRI) files in Labview

Hi everybody,
Looking for any cue on how to work with NIFTI (*.nii) files in labview to make a brain atlas explorator based on MRI.
Thnaks for sharing,
Olivier

Hi,
LabVIEW does not have built in functionality for .nii files however I was checking in here that the file type uses a ANALYZE 7.5 format so, I thought the answer to this dilemma was to find a way to change the file into something that LabVIEW can read and I ran into this page. If you can successfully transform the file into a comma delimited text file you will be able to use the read/write from/to spreadsheet VIs.
Another possibility is to setup a communication channel to the MRI hardware through TCP/IP or any other method supported.
I hope this helps

    I can think of two possible stumbling blocks:
    What are your 8.6 options for "byte order" and "prepend array or string size"?
    Overall, many file IO functions have changed with LabVIEW 8.0, so there might not be an exact 1:1 code conversion. You might need to make some modifications. For example, in 7.1, you should use "write file", the "binary file VIs" are special purpose (I16 or SGL). What is your data type?

    Hi,
    I got the message (in bold) below when I was trying to read a text file type. I also include a snippet of my block diagram.
    Error 7 occurred at Open File+.vipen File
    Possible reason(s):
    LabVIEW:  File not found. The file might have been moved or deleted, or
    the file path might be incorrectly formatted for the operating system.
    For example, use \ as path separators on Windows, : on Mac OS X, and /

    Hi Ravens Fan,
    Thanks again for your valuable input. I replaced the string manipulation functions with a path control. I think it works coz I can see the waveform data, rms values etc. And then you said if it works, do a Path to String on that...and I'm not exactly sure how to do that. I attached a snippet of the modified vi. you may refer the original vi snippet in my previous email.
    I appreciate it if you could help me again.

  • How do I read a RIFF file in LabView?

    Hi,
    I want to read data and header information from a RIFF file that is generated by a data recorder. It is saved as a .WAV file, but it contains extra information that I need to read. I have a data sheet that describes where I can find the header information and the data in the .WAV file, but I don't know how to extract it.
    Please help!
    Thanks
    / Patrik

    Hi mrsound,
    There is a VI 'Read from Binary File.vi' in LabVIEW which can read the file as binary data, if you know the exact position where the header information is, you can use it to extract it, just as the attach VI shows. Hope this helps.

  • Read access mdb file in labview via ADO/DAO problem

    Hi guys,
    I am now facing one problem that I want to import ACCESS database (ver2000) files into labview and turn it into tables.
    but if I use ADO(actually using LABSQL) I have to create the ODBC in control panel, if I use DAO, I don't know how to call the activeX method.
    I would like to realize like this:
    choose in a directory which mdb file I would like to open, and then open it and show it in a labview table, but using AD0 I have to create connection for each file, does it stand a chance to open it without specify the connection in control panel?
    He Liang

    You can use a Connection String defined by you like this
    You can get the basic connection string by creating a UDL file and editing that file in Wordpad.
    Hope this helps

  • Reading a csv file in Labview

    I need to be able to read a 2D csv file and pull the data out by rows for use in an I/O write. I am working with a Lakeshore 331 temperature controller and need to be able to write parameters from a csv file to the temp controller. There are three columns of data; Set temp, Stabilization time, and Tolerance. I need to be able to switch between using tolerance data and a time switch to change a boolean to true. That true boolean needs to be able to be able to light a "Temp Stabilized Flag" and run a loop to the next row of data points were the previous row of written data points will be replaced by the following row. Basically, when one row of desired parameters is achieved, the program reads the next row of parameters and uses them as the standard until those parameter points are achieved. This process will continue until the entire list is exhausted. I am unable to find a way to read the csv by rows. My initial thought was to use the "Read Text" function and convert the string to the three seperate data points but I was unable to make that work. I have attached an example csv file, a rough draft file of what I need in order to write the data to the 331(which is entirely unfinished but provides a basic idea of where I am coming from), and my full project in case it helps. Please help me find a way to pull each row of data points individually in the previously mentioned cycle.
    Thank  You,
    Matt

    I suggest you look at using the subVI Spreadsheet String to Array from the palette to convert the csv file to an array of parameters then you can use a for loop to index through the data elements one row at a time.  You may need to use an index primitive or internal loop to process the data.
    If you check out the examples through the "Example Finder" you will most likely discover a good starting point for your problem.

  • Reading Large Matlab files into LabVIEW

    Hi All,
    I am using the 'Open Data Storage [MATLAB] block to read data from a mat file into MATLAB. The data is very large (in the order of millions). When I try to run my vi which is relatively simple to read in and manipulate the data, my LabVIEW said it does not have enough memory. Is there any way to around this problem without physically increasing computer memory.
    Thanks in advance for any help and assistance.
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
    Did the 'not enough memory' happen on 'Open Data Storage' or 'Read Data' ?
    If it happened on the 'Read Data', you might want to try specifying 'index/count' inputs of the 'Read Data' to read channel values chunk by chunk.

  • Generate/Read ATML TestResults Files using LabVIEW

    I've become very interested recently in saving all my test results into XML files.  Seems like the wise way to go about this would be to use the ATML standard (http://grouper.ieee.org/groups/scc20/tii/IEEE1636-1TestResults/TestResults.html#complexType_doubleAr...).  I know this standard is supported in TestStand but I was wondering if any tools exist that would make it easier to use in LabVIEW.  (I could write it from scratch using LabVIEW's built in XML VIs but I'm not very familiar with XML in general so this would be time consuming)
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Read/Write text files in LabVIEW

    We have developed an instrument control and data acquisition system for a mass spectrometer using LabVIEW FPGA. Currently we have 6 counters on the FPGA, counting for 1 second intervals and transferring data to the host using a FIFO.
    The data, as a local variable, is used in several different parallel loops on the host. One of these is coded to write the data to a text file. Unfortunately everything we have tried has failed. It is proving impossible using either the write to file VI provided with labVIEW, or to use the Open file, write and close file utilities. Each attempt has failed. Yet when running a dummy code we can write to files. The dummy code consists of 6 random number generators running in one loop and the write to file VI in a second loop. The random numbers are transferred across the loops as local variables.
    Can anyone offer any advice as to what we might be doing wrong. We're beginning to feel as though we are banging our heads against a brick wall and getting very frustrated.
    Many thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    Hi Paul,
    you neither say, what is failing nor do you show any code... How should we help then?
    "impossible using ... the write to file VI"
    Well, usually they work just fine.
    "Each attempt has failed."
    In which way? Error number given? Did you use the debuging tools, like probing, breakpoints and highlighting?
    "as local variables."
    It seems you're not properly do program "real" LabVIEW code

  • Reading fits files in labview 64 bit

    I need to read fits data files in labview on a 64 bit machine. I developed an application in labview 2012 (32 bit version on a win 7 x32 machine). This vi will not run on a win7 x64 machine. The problem is with the gfitsio library I used to read the files (downloaded from http://heasarc.gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/software/fitsio/fitsio.html). It seems they will not work with labview x64. I installed labview 32 bit on the same machine & tried to run the vi with that, but no luck.
    Any ideas would be appreciated,
    Thanks,
    Joe

    It appears the FITS libraries are 32-bit, so they cannot be called from 64-bit LabVIEW.  You should be able to call them from 32-bit LabVIEW on a 64-bit machine.  The only difficulty you may run into is locating the DLL.  64-bit versions of Windows put DLLs in different places than 32-bit. Check you system path and make sure your DLL resides in the search path.  You can also load the DLL explicitly using Windows Kernel32.dll calls before loading code which calls it.  This is awkward, but works in some cases.
    Since the source code is available, you may be able to create a 64-bit DLL that 64-bit LabVIEW could use.  I am the wrong person to cousel you on how to do this, but it should be possible.

  • How to open a .MAT file in LABVIEW

    Hey everyone,
    I currently have a .MAT image file which I would like to open in LABVIEW to apply some image filters. However, I am unsure as to how to open the .MAT file in LABVIEW. Ideally I would like to be able to open the .MAT file without using matlab, and it seems the only way to accomplish this task is through the mathscript node. I have attached an example of the image im trying to open, as well as the LABVIEW program which I would like to use on the image. Thanks for the feedback! =]

    Hi Boiler,
    1) Do you have a choice in the format you export your data from MATLAB?
    "ASCII Format
    Complete the following steps if you want to import or export data between LabVIEW and the MATLAB® environment, the process is straightforward as long as you are using ASCII format.
    From the MATLAB® environment to LabVIEW
    To save a vector or a matrix Xin ASCII format with tab delimiter, enter the following in the command window or m-script file in the MATLAB® environment:
    >>SAVE filename X -ascii -double -tabs
        This creates a file whose name is filename, and it contains the data X in ASCII format with a tab delimiter.
    Import the file into LabVIEW using the Read From Spreadsheet File VI located on the Programming»File I/O palette.
    2) Have you tried using the mathscript node? Did you get any errors?
    "Binary Format
    Complete the following steps if you want to import or export data between LabVIEW and MATLAB®.
    From the MATLAB® environment to LabVIEW
    To read a .mat file in LabVIEW would require a VI to parse the file. This may be easier if each variable is saved to a separate file.

  • LabVIEW for ARM 2009 Read from text file bug

    Hello,
    If you use the read from text file vi for reading text files from a sdcard there is a bug when you select the option "read lines"
    you cannot select how many lines you want to read, it always reads the whole file, which cause a memory fault if you read big files!
    I fixed this in the code (but the software doesn't recognize a EOF anymore..) in CCGByteStreamFileSupport.c
    at row 709 the memory is allocated but it tries to allocate to much (since u only want to read lines).
    looking at the codes it looks like it supposed to allocated 256 for a string:
    Boolean bReadEntireLine = (linemode && (cnt == 0));
    if(bReadEntireLine && !cnt) {
      cnt = BUFINCR;    //BUFINCR=256
    but cnt is never false since if you select read lines this is the size of the file!
    the variable linemode is also the size of the file.. STRANGE!
    my solution:
    Boolean bReadEntireLine = (linemode && (cnt > 0));  // ==
     if(bReadEntireLine) {    //if(bReadEntireLine && !cnt) {
      cnt = BUFINCR;
    and now the read line option does work, and reads one line until he sees CR or LF or if the count of 256 is done.
    maybe the code is good but the data link of the vi's to the variables may be not, (cnt and linemode are the size of the file!)
    count should be the number of lines, like chars in char mode.
    linemode should be 0 or 1.
    Hope someone can fix this in the new version!
    greets,
    Wouter
    Wouter.
    "LabVIEW for ARM guru and bug destroyer"

    I have another solution, the EOF works with this one.
    the cnt is the bytes that are not read yet, so the first time it tries to read (and allocate 4 MB).
    you only want to say that if it's in line mode and cnt > 256 (BUFINCR) cnt = BUFINCR
    the next time cnt is the value of the bytes that are not read yet, so the old value minus the line (until CR LF) or if cnt (256) is reached.
    with this solution the program does not try to allocate the whole file but for the max of 256.
    in CCGByteStreamFileSupprt.c row 705
     if(linemode && (cnt>BUFINCR)){
       cnt = BUFINCR;
    don't use the count input when using the vi in line mode. count does not make sense, cnt will be the total file size. also the output will be an array.
    linemode seems to be the value of the file size but I checked this and it is just 0 or 1, so this is good
    update: damn it doesn't work!
    Wouter.

  • How can I read pdf files from LabVIEW with different versions of Acrobat reader?

    How can I read pdf files from LabVIEW with different versions of Acrobat reader?
    I have made a LabVIEW program where I have possibility to read a PDF document.  When I made this LabVIEW program it was Acrobat Reader 5.0.5 that was installed on the PC. Lather when the Acrobat Reader was upgraded to version 6.0, there was an error when VI tries to launch the LabVIEW program. And Later again when we upgraded to Acrobat Reader 7.0.5 I must again do some changes and rebuild the EXE files again
    It isn't so very big job to do the changes in one single LabVIEW program, but we have built a lot of LabVIEW programs so this take time to due changes every time vi update Acrobat Reader. (We have build EXE files.)
    The job is to right click the ActiveX container and Click "Insert ActiveX Object", then I can brows the computer for the new version of acrobat Reader. After this I must rebuild all the "methods" in the Activex call to make the VI executable again.
    Is there a way to build LabVIEW program so I don't have to do this job every time we update Acrobat Reader?
    This LabVIEW program is written in LabVIEW 6.1, but I se the problem is the same in LabVIEW 8.2.

  • I would like to read a text file in which the decimal numbers are using dots instead of commas. Is there a way of converting this in labVIEW, or how can I get the program to enterpret the figures in the correct way?

    The program doest enterpret my figures from the text file in the correct way since the numbers contain dots instead of commas. Is there a way to fix this in labVIEW, or do I have to change the files before reading them in the program? Thanks beforehend!

    You must go in the labview option menu, you can select 'use the local
    separator' in the front side submenu (LV6i).
    If you use the "From Exponential/Fract/Eng" vi, you are able to select this
    opton (with a boolean) without changing the labview parameters.

  • How to read EDF files in LabVIEW?

    Hi all.
    I'm trying to read a EDF file (brain signals, EEG) into LabVIEW but I can't figure out how to do it. Would like to meet this challenge without converting the EDF file before processing.
    Are there someone out there who can help me? I'm using LabVIEW 2010
    Kind regards
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Clausny,
    LabVIEW supports numerous data types through DataPlugins available here (login may be required), this includes the *.EDF (European Data Format).
    Supported Features:
    EDF (European Data Format) files.
    EDF+ files.
    Large blocked data files.
    Writing of EDF files.
    All channels are saved into one channel group.
    Saving of all numeric and waveform channels.
    All channels must have the same channel length and the same "Waveform x-step width" property value.
    "Waveform x-name" and "Waveform x-unit" properties will be ignored when writing to EDF file.
    Non-Supported Features:
    Annotations. Those will be supported in a later version.
    The EDF DataPlugin also integrates into the NI Biomedical Startup Kit. The Biomedical Startup Kit uses the LabVIEW graphical development environment to analyze biomedical signals.
    Also the link here gives a brief introduction on how to use DataPlugins with your version of LabVIEW.
    Hope this helps with your application.
