Reading .ods files on the ipad

Can anyone shed any light on how to import and edit .ods files (from open office) at the minute im using drop box between me and my accountant our files are edited in open office and now i have an ipad id love to be able to use it to edit my docs and send them back, but it wont read them. Will pages do it for me?
Thanks, marc

This file type is the spreadsheet from open office. I do not think there is an i pad app that will open it.
But the file in open office can be saved as an xl file, which your i pad can deal with.
From http://www.file-extensions.org/ods-file-extension
"Of course, you are free to use your old Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, or save your work in Excel format for sending to people who are still locked into Microsoft products. If all they want to see is your results, then use Portable Document Format (.pdf) - no need to buy any extra software. Since version 3.0, CALC has been able to read .xlsx files created with Microsoft Office 2007 or Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac OS X."

Is there a way to prevent iTunes from automatically starting the next playlist file on the iPad?

When you connect the device open iTunes and select it from the sidebar. Click on the Summary tab in the main window. Uncheck the option to automatically connect to iTunes. You will find it in the collection of options near the lower part of the window.

  • Backing up files from the iPad

I'm buying an iPad Retina tomorrow.
I will be traveling with it shortly, and will be storing images from my camera to the iPad via a Lightning USB connector.
Does this connector work the other way too?  I.E. can I attach an external USB key to the connector and copy files from the iPad to the key?
btw, I do understand that I can backup using iCloud, and I will do that when I can, but uploading a day's worth of RAW files over a slow wifi isn't going to work.

No, you're correct about wifi in Italia. It's almost always slow as heck but depends where you are. Traveled there twice since 2011, and lugged a 13" Black Macbook and external drive to back up photos in raw. Worked great but heavy. Some folks recommend the Seagate wireless external 1tb hard drive to back up files, but can't seem to verify it will handle RAW files in DNG or whichever format used.
Others prefer the Nexus 7 Android tablet since it can connect to a portable hard drive via it's USB port and allow backup of files directly (as the iPad should be enabled to do). Not sure what Apple was thinking by depriving photographers of a critically important step in their work flow.
I ordered a new Haswell/Intel Asus Chromebook which has built in SD card slot and USB 2 and 3 ports. You can plug in a hard drive and use the chrome book as a conduit by which you transfer camera files from the sd to the hard drive.  This, in a chrome book under $300-, and under 3 lbs. A great alternative to a way more expensive Macbook air.

These are supposed to ship very soon but maybe not in time for your trip. I am only using it on such trips for email, web browsing, documents in google docs, and photo backup to external drives.

  • I can't read a file with the ext PDF the sender informed me that the file was reset to PDF.

I can't read a file with the .ext PDF the sender informed me that the file was reset to PDF. But when I tried to open it the caption box informed me"the file is not in PDF format. I suspect the sender simply changed the file .ext which is why I can't open it! What can I do about it! I am working on an iPad.
    Thanks
    Mr Jim Lapthorn

If the document is not, in fact, a PDF, then you will need to get your sender to provide a PDF.
Can you open this document in any other application?

  • How do I save and find files on the ipad?

How do I save and find files on the iPad?

Files/documents need to be stored/associated within an app on the iPad, unlike 'normal' computers there is no file system which allows you to save files with no means of being able to read/use them. So if you want to store a file on the iPad you first need an app on the iPad that supports that file type.
How you then get the file onto the iPad and into the app will depend on what the app is and what transfer method(s) it supports. e.g. some apps use the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to your computer's iTunes, some apps support the transfer of files via your wifi network, the iBooks app uses the Books section of your iTunes (and the device's Books tab) to sync content, and other transfer methods include email attachments, Dropbox etc. The file is then found by going into your chosen app and opening/using the file.

Please Please Please:let me rating my raw files in the iPad and then sync with LR.

definitely the battery wont be the problem.
The important thing is that the IPAD already can see the RAW files;)
would be very useful to make the rating in it.

  • How to play Swf files on the iPad??

Just as the title sated, how to play sef files on the iPad, since the iPad lack of flash support, and I don't find any program to handle with the swf files to playing on my iPad

Depending on what sites you are trying to access, you might find that some of them (probably more so if they are news sites) have their own apps in the App Store which might let you get some of the content that you want (and there is the built-in YouTube app). Also there are browsers such as Skyfire which 'work' on some sites - but judging by the reviews not all sites. If you want to play flash games then you are out of luck if you want to play on-line (unless something like the iSwiffter app work with it), but again some of them have app versions in the store.

  • How can I delete hidden video files from the iPad?

How can I delete hidden video files from the iPad?  These files were created on my MBA and when I changed the media type to iTunesU and then copied it to my iPad via iTunes, they did not appear.  I can see them using 3rd party software, but they don't have delete functionality.
    Thanks
    York

Interesting note:  I can see the files when I use the search function, but when I tap either file, I return to my home screen.  The video does not open.  I can transfer the file to my MBA, and it plays fine, but I cannot figure out a way to delete them.

  • When i add a book, music or video to ipad via itunes it keeps trying to add deleted files on the ipad previously. Why?

No major problem, just takes a lot of unecessary time. Whenever i do either of the following functions of adding a video, book, or a music file. Itunes keeps checking for the previously deleted files on the ipad and i dont know why. My problem is that if i just want to add ONE single file i will take more time because it does that silly thing. Any suggestion why this happens and how can be fixed?
    My current settings are:
(TICK) Prevent ipad from syncing automatically,
(TICK) Manually manage music and videos,

If it's any consolation i've just had a similar thing happen. Went to add a playlist and it wiped 35 gig of music off my iPod touch 64g in a nanosecond. I've got the latest iTunes and osx but do not back up because i keep different styles of music (and loads of it) in separate libraries and devices which i don't want mixed together. All my stuff is burned from cd so it's not lost for good and i've got a hard drive with the "lost" mp3 music on it but even so it will take literally weeks to prune the tracks for my iPod to be the same again. Why do they make it so difficult to manage your music on these things. I have massive amounts of music on my computer so autofill is a disastrous unusable gimmick to me. The whole thing seems to be aimed at 9 year old kids with about 6 mp3's on their phone rather than serious music lovers (for example accessing EQ is a joke let alone the lack of a manual option). I'm a dj and use apple for that reason but to be honest i'm beginning to wonder why. I'm absolutely livid. The weird thing is that my mac still shows the titles of the missing tunes in the 'on my device' window but as my macbook storage display shows no increase i'm pretty sure it's all gone. Nightmare. I have no confidence in this device anymore and could barely use the previous osx 8.2 anyway. Why they have to change it every ten minutes is beyond me. As the old saying goes 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' but this format just gets more broken every time they update. An absolute disgrace. Why not just drag and drop or delete. No wonder the iPod is said to be a dying device, it's for music, it is not a phone. Not fit for purpose anymore. I can't be bothered to read a massive 'how to use' article every update. Good technology should be easier and more intuitive with each new version. I suppose i'll have to phone apple at my expense to find out what's going on, or maybe that's the whole idea. Very very very not happy.

  • How do u out your own video files on the ipad?

How do u put your own video files on the ipad and once u have done it where do u look to find it to play

You load them into iTunes and then sync them to your iPad. You'll then find them in the Video app. For detailed information, consult the iPad User Guide; the sections on Synching and Videos will be most applicable. Then if you have specific questions, post back and we can help further.

In your reply you stated that iPad microphone is not very sensitive. And that you could hardly hear the play back.
Are you speaking of a speaker's  nature voice or an individual using an audio system. Also how close were you to the speaker?

  • How do I OUTPUT an edited picture file from the iPad (latest) to an external USB for easy transfer?

I am a photographer and I use my camera and iPad everyday. Camera takes pictures, connect to iPad, edit pictures with iPad software, output to Internet somwhere (Dropbox, etc..).
However, sometimes I need to hand someone a USB stick with an edited picture on it that came directly from the iPad. I know that I could do it by buying another computer but that would be silly. I do not have another computer.
I need to get the picture file OFF the iPad onto an external storage device (USB stick for instance). Can anyone help?

Currently you can't use the camera connection kit to export pic to a USB thumb drive or an SD card.
