I have a g5 1.6 from 10/03 and recently upgraded to 10.4.2. Have done all the updates. Upgraded to FCP hd4.5
I have hit or miss luck getting DVDs to burn after exporting through compressor 1.2.1
Can someone jump in and give me some direction.

I am o frustrated with this program I could scream. My project has been fine as far as music for the past two weeks I've been working on it. Recently I've changed my password to my iTunes Apple ID account. Some of the songs I'm using for the project are ones from there. I authorized my computer about 7 times but it keeps saying must authorize it before I play it (note: it plays fine in iTunes) and in some cases it will say I need to have iTunes 4 or above (I have iTunes 7.3.3 [3]). So I don't understand. It was fine yesterday playing all those songs. I've restarted my computer and shut down all my programs and refreshed but the same thing comes up. UGH.

According to another Apple Contributor:
"It is just barely possible that this is caused by a bad Ethernet port, especially if the user connects to the Internet wirelessly, as iTunes authorization is based on the wired Ethernet MAC ID.
Check in System Profiler > Network > Built-in Ethernet > below Proxies, is Ethernet listed and if so does it have a MAC address? If not, the port has failed and is causing this issue."
Or it may just be the fact that you changed your ID?

WRT160N issue. I'm about to blow my brains out.

Ok, so let me give the backstory.
We're using this router for a small business. We went to one of our locations. I'll refer to this location as location #9.
Anyways, we went to #9 with intentions of installing a Sonicwall, which is a router/firewall. Before we installed it, we were currently set up with a WRT54g. They have cable internet. So, the cable was going to the modem, which is then connected to the WRT54g. We had a server, a PC, and a thin client hardwired to the WRT54g. We also used the wireless capabilites so that the doctors at #9 can access their email/internet on their laptops wirelessly. Everything was working great.
So we get there to install the sonicwall, we remove the WRT54g and use the sonicwall as our new router. We hard wired the computer and server directly to the sonicwall. We're using the sonicwall as our default gateway at 192.168.9.1. We set static IPs and entered the DNS settings in the computer and the server, to make sure that they can access the network/internet. The PC and the server are running perfectly fine. The WRT54g is no longer being used at all. It's no longer in the picture.
NOW... here's where this all gets stupid. We also hardwired a brand new WRT160N router into the sonicwall. We have an ethernet cable in port 5 of the sonicwall, into port 1 on the WRT160N. Wirelessly, this somewhat works. I can access the network, BUT I CAN NOT GET INTERNET TO WORK WIRELESSLY AT ALL. I even hardwired a computer to the WRT160N and that worked perfectly fine, but as soon as I remove the hardwire, I can connect wirelessly, but no internet.
Within the WRT160N, under setup, it is set to Automatically Configure-DHCP. I was on the phone with Linksys for hours yesterday trying to get this resolved, but unfortunately... nothing. The WRT160N's IP is set to 192.168.9.2. The girl from linksys had me disable NAT in advanced routing and she also had me disable DHCP server under setup. They already walked me through cloning a MAC address, but that shouldn't be an issue. I shouldn't have to clone the MAC address of each computer that wants to access wireless internet.
Someone please help me. I've been trying to get this fixed for a week and it's costing me a lot of time and money.
If I need to provide more information, I can do that easily.

OK...I found a Deployment Scenario in the SonicWall manual that looks like it may be similar to what you are trying to do...
Take a look starting at page 174 in this manual:

If that doesn't work, you may want to think about talking to Sonicwall directly, because I am pretty sure this is a Sonicwall configuration issue, and as I have said, I am not really familiar with them, and to have you run through your setup on the sonicwall over this forum could take days!!

Adobe Reader never converted Publisher files to PDF, for free, never. I suspect you use to have the (paid for) Adobe Acrobat. Sometimes people have Acrobat (more than $300 worth) and install Adobe Reader over the top, losing that valuable software.
That said, if you subscribed to PDF Pack it should do this conversion. What exactly happens now.

Ready to take a swandive out the window after my computer!!! Please help!!

I am going nuts. I got an iPod Nano today, and being as I already had the iPod shuffle, I thought I could just hook it up and fly at 'er. But no... I am ready to pitch the computer out the window. I am given a message when I hook the nano up that I need to update to iTunes7. All well and good, I follow through with what I think are the necessary steps. I go to the site, and click on download now, and no downloading occurs, but a thanks for downloading sign pops up on the next page. What am I doing wrong? I have been here for over six hours, and I'm so frustrated. Please help!!

I had the problem, too. First, make sure all of your pop-up blockers are off. One time I tried downloading it and it went straight to the "Thank You" page, but with no box saying to Run or Save As. After I checked my pop-up blocker, I noticed the box had been blocked. When I turned it off, it worked fine.
Since I'm having other problems, I've had to uninstall and reinstall iTunes and QT about 7 or 8 times now (still having stupid problems though). The second time the same thing happened..it went straight to the "Thank You" page. My pop-up blocker was turned off, so I just hit the back button, refreshed the page, and tried again. It took a couple of times, but eventually the box popped up to download the new iTunes.
I hope this will help you. :o) I'm off to try and fix my problem now. I've been working on it for 4 days now. I might just take that swandive out the windown with you! Haha :o)

Linksys connection problems (ready to throw the thing out the window)

I own a G4 powerbook OSX 10.3.9. and use a WRT54G v5 router. Everything was working fine up until a week ago. Now, I am CONSTANTLY losing my connection and because of this, I have to reboot the router every day. Even then the signal only works for a few hours. I've upgraded to the latest firmware and that hasn't helped.
I'm at my wits end here and don't know what to do. It's so very frustrating. Can anyone make any suggestions? I'm seriously ready to throw my powerbook out the window.

So, what happened about a week ago? There has to be something that happened to cause this trouble. Did you have a freeze/crash? Hard shutdown? Kernel panic? Did you install something other than firmware? Any security updates?
Unless you have cleared your logs, you can look at your system logs (Console/logs/system.log and ppp logs (in Console/logs/var/log). you may find a hint as to what started occuring around the time of your troubles beginning.

Ready to throw the printer out the window!!!!!!!

So i've been trying to update my portfolio and im ready to throw this printer out the window and probably never buy another HP product if someone cant help me fix this problem. Everytime i go to print whether its landscape or potrait it cuts the top of my photo off. This is a new problem, its never happened before up until now. I have spent days trying everything, ive tried printing it off my Samsung galaxy tab S. My desktop. i have tried resetting the printer, updated the software, troubleshooting, aligning, everything and have gone through $100 worth of ink to get nothing out of it. I am very angry with this product. what the hell is wrong with **bleep** thing?????? havent even owned it for a year!!!!!!

Hello, In the printing App that you are using, there should be an setting option to select the Paper Type and Size. Make sure you got that settings changed to the type and size of paper you are wanting to print on. I am not sure if you are using the inbuilt app of Samsung to print or HP's ePrint & All in One Remote app . ? HP ePrint app is used for printing using.HP All in One Remote app is used for Scanning . Blowing the dust out?

A couple times a year I would blow the dust out of my pc to help keep it running cool. With the imac sitting on the desktop there's probably less dust now than when the cpu was sitting on the floor but it seems inevitable that someday I'll have to blow the dust out. I'm wondering if there's a best way of doing this? Bottom up? Top down? Does it matter?

The air intakes are along the bottom and there is one circular vent right above the power cord. Some people find that using a vacuum hose works. Then blowing compressed air into the vents is the best we can do without taking it apart.

Please Help! Ready to throw my iPhone out the window!

First time posting on the forums but it's gotten to the point where my phone isn't even usable and I either need some answers or a good excuse to smash it.
So here's the story:
I got my iPhone 3G (black, 16GB) in September (I think), last year. The phone operated fine with only minor annoyances as software updates came down to fix issues, no big deal. About 10 months in, the phone starts acting up:
If you want clarification on some problem, ask. I don’t want to type out 8 paragraphs if I don’t have to, should be pretty self-explanatory.
Before OS 3:
1.) Can’t slide to answer calls. After ringing stops phone behaves normally.
2.) Doesn’t charge from wall or computer (happened randomly). Plug phone in, it says it’s charging but never charges.
3.) Can’t end calls / call doesn’t end when other line is hung up (thanks for wasting my minutes).
(these problems persist even with hard resets and full restores, including setting the phone up as a new phone rather than restoring from a backup)
After OS 3 AND full restore:

At any rate, I was home one weekend and figured I’d take the phone to the Genius bar at the Mayfair Mall Apple Store. Sounded like a good plan until I get to the mall and find the store is being renovated (seriously Apple, you can’t just put that on your site that a store is closed for some reason? Give me a break). Home is 3 hours away for me and the closest Apple store is 2.5 hours away. Awesome.
I deal with the problems for another month or so until my girlfriend and I take a trip to visit her friend in Minnesota. While there we go to the Mall of America so I decide to go to the Apple Store there (which is flappin’ giant, by the way). I explain my problems to the ‘Genius’ as well as informing him of the numerous restores/resets I’ve done both before and after the 3.0 update. He checks the phone for water damage and concludes that the headphone/dock ports are dusty which is causing the charging problem. I proceed to tell him I’ve cleaned them with compressed air before and the problems continued but he’s the ‘Genius’ so I let him do his thing and clean them again. Afterwards, he concludes (via the iPhone diagnostic software they have) that since I haven’t done a restore in about a month that I should do another one as that will likely remedy the problem. Right. Was he even listening when I explained that the problems happened before and after the 3.0 update or that I had on numerous occasions attempted to remedy the problem with hard resets and restores? Nope. My girlfriend over hears this (she is aware of the problems I was having and is a Apple-certified hardware technician at our local Mac store) and comes over to reiterate (albeit slightly more forcefully than I had initially) that the problems occur regardless of restore state or software version. The ‘Genius’ finally decides he can replace the phone after explaining to him that we are not anywhere near an Apple store and that there’s little time left in the warranty. I get my new phone set up and ready to go. Whew.
Everything is great. Phone works, no issues. Until ~2 months ago, new issues start cropping up.
OS 3.1+ (happen on all versions):
1.) Can’t sync, get “unable to complete. Phone was disconnected.” Error. (I checked around the forums and tried a few things but was unable to resolve the issue, including trying to remove the files that it kept ‘disconnecting’ on when it got to, no effect)
2.) Installing an application (be it via App Store on the phone or via sync with my desktop) results in the phone being unable to boot if turned off. When attempting to turn it back on, Apple logo shows then phone goes off after a few seconds. Only way to resolve this is by booting the phone directly to restore mode and doing a full restore.
3.) Earlier this week, my phone wouldn’t boot after having no apps (0, zero, zip, nada) on it after restoring it a few weeks back. Apple logo showed up then the spinning loading animation overlaid on the logo only to freeze. Attempted booting again and it came on (whew).
4.) Today, my phone wouldn’t boot at all, again, no apps are on or have been on the phone since I last restored it. Tried turning it off/on a few times, no good. I ended up restoring the phone again.
At first, my girlfriend was convinced that it was because I was synching with my desktop PC (obviously, blame it on the PC first), which I’ve been using since I got the phone and everything was fine until both phones randomly decided to crap out. I ended up restoring it on my MacBook Pro as a new phone just to see but the same thing happens with the apps causing it to not boot. After that we thought that it might be a single (or a few) apps that were just taking the phone down for some reason. I restored the phone with no apps and it seemed to be ok so I put 3 apps that I’ve had pretty much since they were available (and used to work without issue) back on to see. The plan was to add a few apps until the phone stopped working properly to narrow down the offending app. Just kidding! Just having those 3 apps (Beejive IM, Facebook, iDracula) causes the phone to not boot. I restore and try just Facebook. Same thing, phone doesn’t boot. Restore, try just Beejive. Same thing, phone won’t boot. By the way, the phone doesn’t boot even without me having LAUNCHED THE APPS AT ALL. Just by being on my phone it’s totally hosed.
At this point I have no idea what to do. I want to like my iPhone again but it’s terribly worthless when I have to restore it every other day and can’t use my ~$90 worth of apps (PS: even Apple’s own ‘Remote’ app brings the phone down). I really, really hate to say it but my old HTC Hermes (Windows Mobile 5/6) PDA phone was better than this (and WinMo is god-awful).
Does anyone have any suggestions? My phone is out of warranty now and I don’t have money to buy another phone even if I wanted to.
Also, I treat my phone like a baby. It hasn't been dropped a single time, been near water, or operated outside of the safe operating temp guidlines.
I'm willing to elaborate on any of the information I provided above, just let me know.

After the restore did the phone work properly for a while? Say, a day or so?
If so it is possible you have an app that doesn't let go of memory properly. I reboot my iPhone ( hold sleep/wake and hole till you see the apple logo) every few days. This resets the memory. The iPhone OS has doesn't seem to mange memory very well yet. So a reboot will help with that. I have had my phone almost slow to a stop before I started rebooting. Always reboot after installing a new app. Also do you close all pages in Safari when you are done? This is a good practice. Safari will run in the background and use processor time and drain your battery quicker. Create a new blank page then close all others when you are done browsing for a while. I have also found that certain web site that have animated images like weather maps will turn the phone into molasses. As soon as i close that page it gets faster.
If all of the above have no effect then as Tamara said it is time for a trip to the Genius bar.

Ready to throw my imac out the window!!

     I've had my iMac9,1 Intel 2 Duo 2, 2.66GHz, 4gb RAM, 600gb ROM for about two years now. It has been a dream until about two months ago. It started with my mouse malfunctioning while playing World of Warcraft. It was like the mouse buttons were stuck. At first I thought it was the battery in my optical wireless logitech mouse was dead so I would change it and that seemed to work for a bit. then changing out the battery would not work. I started restarting my computer and that seemed to work for a bit. and that stopped working so i tried all the trouble shooting ideas i could find. I checked the mouse settings i made a second user and the problems still happen on the new user profile. i installed the new drivers for logitech. I have my software updater set to daily and I am up to date.
      I've ran disk/permission verify/repair and I get to disk repair and I would fail. so i checked the fail errors and they seem to all be on the disk/permissions that can be safely ignored list. I restarted in safe mode and ran these and it went fine. I have reinstalled from my disk without wiping my machine clean and back to new.(would take about 8 hours to reinstall wow) I have over 500 gb of space left on my hd.   I don't even approach my ram limit. I've tried various restarts and deleting all unused applications. I've ran thru all the system optimizing tips that I've found. and still my computer is sucking so bad. I have pretty much gave up on warcraft because of it. and now my browsing has slowed to an unbearable pace.
     Im ready just to put it in the shop and hope they can figure out what is wrong. But it seems to work fine sometimes and im scared they will not beable to get it to malfunction to see what is really going on.
     So here is a recap of what the problem seems to be. My mouse stops tracking. the cursor will disappear like I'm holding down the button and will not reappear till i click the button a couple times. sometimes it will track just fine but will not click on anything. and sometimes it just freezes completely. It also seems to get worse when i plug in my IPhone to charge. The kicker is now the loading speed of webpages is intolerable as well.
     I am a mac lover and proud owner. I tell all my friends with PC's that they need to get a mac and all their problems will go away and now I'm so frustrated with mine that it is about to take a short flight to the ground outside my apartment building. please help

Try a PRAM reset. That wll many times resolve bluetooth issues like this:

File wont read, and I'm ready to tear my hair out!!!

Good Morning
I wrote a short program to read a .txt file and assign values into an array. My program works, woo hoo (or so I thought...)
But when I took the same code, and pasted into a function of a larger program, the file doesnt get read! In my larger program, I need the function to return the value of the array so I can use the array elsewhere. II originally thought the file didn't read because the .txt file and program were not stored in the same folder, which is not the case. So now I am wondering if I needed to pass a value to the function, or to call the function from inside the larger file, or basically what the heck I am missing! I am just not seeing it and am totally lost and dreaming of this, when I sleep of course!

How can we stop jre 7 from blowing us all out of the water?

I would like to put forth a issue that greatly concerns me which is java 7. In recent times, some browsers have summarily decided that
they only allow calls to "current" versions of java. So in Mozilla's mindset, the only current version of java now is 6. It is questionable how
feasible it is for someone to manage to get firefox to call an "older" plugin like 1.5, 1.4 or 1.3. Sounds like it requires a lot of manual
configuration on each user's pc. Mozilla has put out conflicting advice on this topic.

So my big concern is that when java 7 is released, Mozilla and other browser vendors can then decide 7 is the current version and make
it nearly impossible to call java 6. Which would be terrible. Oracle would take a fine amount of time to certify 7 and only certify it on the
most recent versions of the software. I forsee great pain and suffering amongst the customers on this. How can this be prevented?
(And why doesn't oracle write it's own browser? If you write your own browser you are free from worrying about this nonsense. Also
the enterprise browser should only connect to enterprise resources and not be used for arbitrary web surfing by the users. Need a way
to restrict such a program.)

J2SE 5.0 reached its End of Service Life (EOSL) on November 3, 2009, which is the date of the final publicly available update of version 5.0 (J2SE 5.0 Update 22). So not only Mozilla thinks that Java 6 is the only version, even the vendor of java (oracle) thinks that.
Why is it so that everybody thinks that software from the previous millennium (like JInit) of course has to work with software of this millennium (like firefox 3.6)?!? JRE 1.5 is desupported for nearly 2 Years now....and don't get me started on JInitiator which basically was released 11 years ago, but surely you will find someone who has a company standard of IE8 and JInit (and mutters why this does not work anymore). Now there comes the argument that they don't want to upgrade their forms servers or what ever else because they are afraid that the newer version does not work anymore, but surely they are update happy with their browsers, aren't they? So why just move foreward with parts of the configuration?
If you look here you may notice that JRE 1.6 will reach EOL in 2012 (2013 with Java for Business) which is about the same time when Forms 10g will reach EOL, so you not only won't get new certifications with forms 10g, you also won't get new Security Patches etc. for forms 10g. This is a perfect reason why to move on to a newer version in both cases.
I am working for a software vendor myself, and I perfectly understand why software vendors throw away compabilities and start desupporting software after a certain amount of time. If we didn't I still would have to develop my PL/SQL code so it operates flawlessly on Oracle 7 as there were surely customers out there which insisted that this version of the database runs so stable in their site, and they don't need to update as the old database software runs well. And not only that, but the point in time when it takes you longer to actually find the affected versions and patch the fix of a critical bug in all those versions takes longer than finding the bug itself (been there, done that) it is time to throw some old versions out of the window, desupport them and clean the trunk code.
Bottom line is: if you want to keep one part of your software Jurassic you better keep the whole configuration at the same age. Old software is never meant to run against software from 10 years in the future, and in the opposite it is quite an impossible task to write an infinite backward compatible software.

I Am At My Wit's End...Going Crazy...Ready To Pull My Hair Out HELP!!!!!!!!

someone PLEASE help me!
here is my problem:
my loop browser likes to delete my loops. they just disappear for no reason....user loops as well as the apple ones. i have my loop folders where i believe is the correct location. but they aren't in the browser. i take that back....every time i open logic, some folders appear, some disappear...i open it again, different ones are there....the ones there the last time are now gone. basically they keep appearing and disappearing....most of them...some have never shown up in the browser. the last time i checked...all i had in there were the ones for the symphony jam pack. i'm afraid next time i open logic none will be there. i keep moving them in and out of the user and apple loop folders thinking that might do something. gah! i just don't know what to do. and god only knows if all the samples and loops i created are anywhere on my computer anymore. oh...and if i try taking the individual folders or files and drag them into the browser, logic freezes. and it doesn't matter anyway because those that i succesfully loaded into the browser that way have also disappeared.
can someone please please please help me. i am desperate. i have had the most obnoxious day already. i am having all these problems with the computer, my car was towed (not my fault either), i woke up at 3am because i couldn't sleep....i'm just stressed and all i want to do is work on music.

also...i still haven't arse to register my copy....is it possible that there is some patch that i missing that i would remedy this. i'm just wondering if this a software bug or i just completely lose at the computer.

maybe it does have to do with other apps. i wish i would have paid attention to when this started occuring so i could narrow down which application might be the culprit.
the only thing that seems to be working right now is if i take my loop folders out of library/audio. i dragged some to my desktop (don't ask me why i did this) and imported them from there. for some reason they are staying in my loop browser. also when asked where i wanted to put the files, i selected them to go where the rest of the loops are at....in the proper directory. i'm thinking of trying this with all the loops and see what happens. something is corrupted and i'd like to know what and why. i admit, which i am embarrassed about, my computer is a mess. i really need to organise it and all that. actually, i am hoping hoping hoping to get a macbook just for my music. it would make life easier for me seeing i am quickly running out of room on all my hard drives.
the only loops i am having trouble locating are all the ones i made recently. which i am upset about. but i am sure they are here somewhere. i just need ot wade through the mess to find them.
