Recent update disabled auto fill search in Safari

Hi there,
I use a MacBook Pro, running OSX 10.6.7, and I use Safari 5.0.5 as my primary browser. The search bar to the right of the address bar is set for Google and has always worked pretty much the same way as actually going to Google. I start typing something, it auto-fills with top suggestions. Earlier this week I ran a software update and now the Google search bar no longer auto fills suggestions, it only brings up history. No, I don't recall what was updated. The system update icon bounced around, I was busy so I just clicked "yes" and let it do its thing. I honestly didn't realize how often I used that feature until it was missing. Is there any way I can recover it?
Thanks!

I figured it out.

  • On iPad3, since the iOs 6 update the 'auto-fill' function on Safari doesn't work.

Anybody has any suggestions? Tried turning it off and on again, assigning different contact data, but nothing. Is it a bug and if so, is it going to be fixed soon?
    Thanks M.

Same here. Although search returns results anything I select brings up a blank page on my iPhone 4. Also when I go the purchased tab, I see the films or tv shows but when I tap into them it brings up a blank page again. What is happening.

  • Two major bugs in Lion - Zoom and Safari auto fill search bar

    hey there
every since I updated to Lion I've been experiencing two major bugs... zoom randomly stops working (the one where you press control and zoom in and out) even though it's set to work on the settings. Safari is also experincing a problem concerning the search bar. mine is set to google and whilst on full screen mode, it randomly stops auto filling as opposed to what happens in non full screen mode. I actually need to get off full scren mode and go back to it to make it work again. as to the zoom thing, I need to restart my computer everytime is stops working. any ideas ?  thanx !!

You don't need to restart. Quit Safari or logout and back in.

  • Unable to completely disable auto-fill suggestions in search bar.

Entering a simple "e" in the search/adress bar still suggests ebay.com, "r" suggests rambler.ru and so on, this is highly annoying seeing as I only want it to suggest things out of my history, not suggest new items.
    Tried;
    Clearing all data
    browser.urlbar.autoFill false
    browser.formfill.enable false
    signon.autofillForms false
Firefox latest (non beta), Android 4.2.2, HTC One X.
At loss what to do at this point, if I can't get it fixed I'm switching firefox for chrome in a heartbeat because I keep losing so much time typing in extra information or deleting auto-fills information.

To clarify: I've never visited or searched for either ebay or rambler.ru (Don't even speak Russian for that matter), while I suspect I've overlooked something obvious (Maybe it's google search? But surely I would be able to disable that auto-suggestion/filling somewhere?)

  • Is it possible to disable auto fill in address field?

I need to disable the auto fill function in the address field. Is this possible?

    Hi Joe
There's no way to disable the URL. Trashing the History (User Account>Library>Safari folder) and Metadata files (User Account>Library>Cache>Metadata and Safari folders) minimizes the prompts. Purging all Bookmarks helps too. However, the actual function of the prompts is built into the application's software, so it simply starts to rebuild the prompts again.
If you don't want to see prompts, simply press the space-bar once before entering a URL. That's the only work-around. If you don't want Safari to record your browsing activity, select "Private Browsing" in the Safari Menu each time you open Safari.

  • Firefox fills in forms at a certain website (disabled auto-fill)

After I had some problems with it (+ security issue) I decided to delete all passwords from my firefox.
When I had done this most of the annoying auto-fill-in stuff was solved, however at one website (which I visit quite regularly) it seems to keep filling in one particular username and a password wherever there's a field for either one. Even if it's just a normal field with a title it'll fill in that username.
How can I get rid of this?

Use these steps to remove saved (form) data from a drop-down list:
#click the (empty) input field on the web page to open the drop-down list
#highlight an entry in the drop-down list
#press the Delete key (on Mac: Shift+Delete) to remove it.

  • How to disable auto fill screen in photo viewer

    Dear all,
In photo viewer on the Iphone 6 using IOS 8 the photo is always resized to fill the screen.
This means that all imported photos from camera with 2:3 dimensions are cut off, so that with each photo you manually must pinch out to see the whole photo.
Can anyone think of a solution?
I really hope Apple makes a switch in settings, so I can choose myself to turn on/off this option...
    Help!

Well, I've seen that this option has not been removed in Disco 10.1.2...
In our system Disco Viewer is used by end users, who totally ignore the meaning of settings like query governor, fan-trap detection, etc.
So, is there a way to remove this button from Disco Viewer???

  • Keychain and Safari Auto Fill

I've never been able to figure out the relationship between the Auto-Fill function in Safari and the Keychain program function that seeems to do the same thing. If anyone knows of any doumntation on this subject I would appreciate it.
    THE CURRENT PROBLEM:
I have certain web sites that request User Name and Password but don't activate the OSX three-button window that asks if I want to save/ignore the password.
The site that is currently not working is cingular.com. Now that I think about it - the username there is a three-window phone number - maybe Keychain/Auto-Fill has to be a username follow by a single window for a password.

I am not an OS expert, but it is not a site "controlling" an OS. You are using a WEB browser application to visit a web site.
Various browsers offer various extension functions and some of those features can be disabled by web sites or enabled. e.g. pop up windows pop-up without your "permission" because some web sites want to pop up extra ads etc. in front of you.
Financial institutions (not all) often set up pages not to auto-populate the user name/password for your safety. Some content providing web sites (e.g. photo libraries) will even actually disable the COPY IMAGE function in some browsers to keep people from copy-pasting-saving their copyrighted materials.
CONTROLLING your OS would mean they can delete files, install viruses, etc. That would not be a good thing.

  • How to Transfer Safari Auto-Fill Passwords to Chrome

How do you transfer all of your saved auto-fill passwords from Safari into Chrome?
It won't let me do it in Preferences/Personal Stuff/Browsing Data
The box "saved passwords" is grayed out and it won't let me select it!
Thanks in advance for any help!
    HARDWARE/SOFTWARE I AM RUNNING:
2.66 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
    8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    OS 10.6.7

The box "saved passwords" is grayed out and it won't let me select it!
Are you referring to: Manage Saved Passwords ??
Your passwords are stored in Keychain Access   /Applications/Utilities
Select Options (Preferences on Mac and Linux; Settings on Chrome OS).
    Click the Personal Stuff tab.
Adjust your password settings in the "Passwords" section:
Select "Offer to save passwords" if you want Google Chrome to prompt you to save your password every time you sign in to a new website.
Otherwise, select "Never save passwords" if you don't want Google Chrome to ever save your passwords.

  • How do I disable autofilling in searches?

I hate autofilling in searches and as much as I tried, I couldn't disable it so any time I start typing in Google or YouTube or any other search it autofills with my recent searches and it is really annoying sometimes... Is there anyway to do that?
    Thanks

I'm not 100% positive if this is functional in the Windows beta (it is on the Mac, and will at least eventually be so in Windows), but under Edit->Preferences->Auto Fill there should be a checkbox called "Other Forms". If you uncheck it, then it Safari won't fill in forms for you. Also, you can click the "Edit..." button to the right of the checkbox and remove individual websites from the list, instead of disabling auto fill for all websites.

  • How do I remove auto-fill items?

    Hi,
When I type in "w" as the start of a url in the address bar, a list of 4 or 5 previously visited sites pops up immediately. I have tried disabling auto-fill, deleting all my bookmarks and reinstalling them, deleting history, cache etc., and it still happens. Actually it's stopping me using Safari as my browser, and I'm now using Chrome instead. How can I fix this issue in Safari?
    Thanks,
    Richard

    HI Richard,
The only alternative at this time is to turn on Private Browsing.
From your Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Private Browsing.
Safari won't remember pages you visit, history, or AutoFill information.
When I type in "w" as the start of a url in the address bar, a list of 4 or 5 previously visited sites pops up immediately.
Most Safari users are complaining about this feature. You can provide feedback here.

  • I dont want in some sites auto fill the password but rather i want if i put atleast three correct entry then the password box be auto filled...plz reply asap...

dont auto fill d password in some sites but auto fill after atleast three correct entry..as gmail other member r also used this...

You can disable auto-fill (I'm using this as well), but you can't delay this by having to enter the same name more than once.
You can set the Boolean pref <b>signon.autofillForms</b> to <i>false</i> on the <b>about:config</b> page.
*You can open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location bar and accept the warning

  • Update preventing safari auto fill help  pl

Auto Fill suddenly stopped functioning last week.  The  only update I performed was Adobe Flash 11.9 which is why I wonder if there is a colloration between the two. Reason for colloration is because Adobe Flash update required I change level of security permissions to access automatically search link. After that Auto Fill stopped.
Never touched perferences pertaining to Auto Fill.
Also wondering if recent iOS 7 on iphone when last sync blocked auto fill.  Need to restore function concrete suggestions welcomed Thank you

I have the latest version of Flash installed withuot any issues with Autofill.
Might be corrupted Safari preferences ...
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.Safari.plist file to the trash.
    Then try Autofill.

  • Safari 3 Gmail auto-fill no longer working, latest Gmail software

Gmail now indicates that auto-fill (of email addresses) is not supported on Safari. They say it will work with Firefox. Auto fill worked fine until the last Gmail client update, plus Safari 3.
I feel it's in Apple's best interest to work this out with Google, quickly. Anybody else aware of this? I see multiple postings on Google's Gmail support site.

I noticed this yesterday but I swear it was working this last week and I have had Leopard and newest Safari on the machine since Oct. 30. I noticed Safari wasn't pre-filling like it used to and assumed it had to do with 1password which I have loaded up recently.
I hope Google and Apple get this worked out - I was just celebrating the fact that Safari is now able to let us use Google the way it should be used.
