Recmail unused space from Tablespace 11g  (Permenant TS / Temp / UNDO)

Hi,
I found many different ways to reclaim unused space however I wonder if there is a good path to do the same.
For undo .. I know the we have to recreate the TS.
For Temp is recreation is the only resort or there is another valid way?
Also let me know the best way for doing this in normal Tablespace.
Cheers.

you need to analyze what is the threshold it is reaching on average daily? If it is really that much big size of files you don't need, then you can decrease.

  • Reclaim unused space in tablespace

    Hi,
    I have a tablespace with a size of 150GB, and after 2 years the company told me the retention period for our data is only 4 months and after deleting the data I'm only using 40GB out of the 150GB size of the tablespace where my table is located. My problem is how can I shrink the size of the tablespace?
    I have tried to resize the datafiles but I have little success because I have only been able to shrink 20GB so my tablespace size is still big(130GB).
    I have the option of shutting down the database for a max of 4 to 5 hours. Aside from exp/imp what other solution can I do?
    Kindly Help.
    Thanks and Best Regards

    Is this a 10g database? You may not need to move to a different tablespace.
    Have a read of the "shrink space" entry on http://www.psoug.org/reference/tables.html
    (also check the manual: http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B13789_01/server.101/b10759/statements_3001.htm#i2192484)
    That might help -- and note that the segment space management for the tablespace has to be automatic otherwise you'll get an ORA-10635 invalid segment or tablespace type error message.
    Hope that works for you.

  • Reclaim unused space in tablespaces

    I need to check the free space I can reclaim if I resize all the datafiles to the smallest size
    possible.So,the possible savings from each datafile should be zero.
    And to make the corresponding tablespace as read-only.
    Could you please advise on how to calculate the space I can recliam if I carry out such an exercise.
    Do let me know if anymore information is required from me.

  • How to exclude undo and temp from "Tablespace Space Used (%)"

    Dear All
    Is it possible to exclude undo and temp tablespace monitoring from "Tablespace Space Used (%)" matric?

    If you use TEMP >=100 as Warning, this warning can still be raised.
    What version of the database is it? If Oracle 10g, Grid Control (the agent) searches the alert table in the database for alerts, so the database raises the alert and the agent just passes this alert to Grid Control.
    If you are using Oracle 10g, you can use the following statement (connected as sys):
    DBMS_SERVER_ALERT.SET_THRESHOLD(
    metrics_id => DBMS_SERVER_ALERT.TABLESPACE_PCT_FULL,
    warning_operator => DBMS_SERVER_ALERT.OPERATOR_GT,
    warning_value => '90',
    critical_operator => DBMS_SERVER_ALERT.OPERATOR_GT,
    critical_value => '100',
    observation_period => 1,
    consecutive_occurrences => 1,
    instance_name => NULL,
    object_type => DBMS_SERVER_ALERT.OBJECT_TYPE_TABLESPACE,
    object_name => 'TEMP');
    This will create the GT (Greater Than) instead of GE (Greater Equal).
    Kind regards,
    Dave
    ps. I'm using GC 10.2.0.3.0, so thanks for the note that 10.2.0.4 doesn't take 100+ values.

    I added an SSD to my 27" 2011 iMac.  Although Sahidus is absolutely correct, it is much easier to add an SSD replacing the optical drive, it wasn't that bad to add it using an entirely seperate cable using SATA-III.  To me it is worth the extra hassle to install a SATA-III SSD.  This is where you are going to get maximum performance.
    Although it appears complicated, if you go slow, the procedure to install an SSD drive isn't too bad.  It takes at most 3 hours, as long as you are prepared and have all the parts and tools.
    http://www.btobey.com/learn/imac-ssd-install.php
    This describes how I did it.  Now I get awesome data performance from my iMac!
    I think the 21.5" may be more difficult to find where to place the SSD.  But im sure it is possible.  Just be creative.

  • Need advice about coalesce and deallocate unused space

    Hi experts;
    Here looking for an advice about coalesce and deallocate unused space.
    I got this tablespace with 87% full, one of the table in that tablespace has 1,150,325 records.  I'm going to delete 500,000 records from that table, but to release the space used by those records I understand that I need to execute other procedure. I was reading about coalesce tablespace and deallocate unused space.
    I found that apparently, both process can help me to free space. If you want to share with me your comments, about  advantages or disadvantages about them, in order I can take the best solution?
    Thanks for your comments.

    Hi
    after deleted rows, the high water mark is still the same and so the size of the table. you need to bring down the water mark
    here is what you need to do to bring down the high water mark. We do this monthly for performance purpose.
    This is an EBS R12 system  but the procedures are the same for EBS database or non EBS database.
    After you purge or delete data in a table
    1) alter table APPLSYS.WF_ITEM_ATTRIBUTE_VALUES move; <-- this operation will invalidate all indexes attache to the table
    2)select owner, index_name, status from dba_indexes  -- list all invalid object for user APPLSYS
    where table_owner = upper('APPLSYS')
    and
    status NOT IN ('VALID','N/A');
    3)spool idxrebuild.sql --generate script to rebuild indexes.
    select 'alter index ' ||owner||'.'||index_name ||' rebuild online;'  from dba_indexes
    where table_owner = upper('APPLSYS')
    and
    status <> 'VALID';
    4) run idxrebuild.sql   -- to rebuild indexes.  -- at this point if you check spaces on the table, it is still the same, you need to run #5
    5)exec fnd_stats.gather_schema_stats ('APPLSYS');  --fnd_stat is for EBS system you can replace with the database equivalent command.
    use this statement to count the block before and after the operation to see the different.
    select DISTINCT(SEGMENT_NAME), count(blocks) "Total Block" from dba_extents
    where
    owner IN ('APPLSYS')
    AND segment_name = 'WF_ITEM_ATTRIBUTE_VALUES'
    Hope this help.

  • Reclaim space from DBFs

    Hi All,
    I have one query regarding tablespace reclaim space. I have users tablespace which is having 5 dbfs. Some of the DBFs of USERS tablespace having autoextend on with max size 32G and some of the DBFs not having autoextend on and maxsize 4G.
    Now when I checked the USERS TBS through EM , I come to know only few MBs out of 20G are in used in 3 DBFs of USERS tablespace and rest of 2 dbfs are in good in use. Now I want to reclaim the space from 3 dbfs say users03,users04 and users05. users01 and users02 are properly in used. I want to reclaim the space from 03,04 and 05.
    can I have any idea how to reclaim space from dbfs? I try with alter database datafile ...resize but giving error "ORA-03297: file contains used data beyond requested RESIZE value".
    please suggest me,
    Thanks...

    Yes, I think you are understanding how it works. For a visual example, if this is your data file:
    XXXX--XX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXX-----------------
    and you delete some data
    XX----X--------X------------------X-----------------
    The datafile can be resized only down to
    XX----X--------X------------------X
    Which tools are available to do this efficiently vary by database version, for example in my 9.2.0.6 database I can use exp/imp, CREATE TABLE AS SELECT, rebuild indexes (mostly) online, exp/imp, move LOBs around with ALTER TABLE ... MOVE LOB, or other strategies - some of these are more work than others, and all will take some amount of time. In 8i There are fewer options; beginning with 10g data pump and DBMS_REDEFINITION are available; in 11g the index rebuilds don't lock the data, so the time may be less of a concern.
    Before you even spend the time to shrink these data files, consider the space needs for USERS. If the extended size was a one-time thing, then shrinking datafiles may be justified. If USERS may grow that large again then a data file shrink is a lot of work for little gain.

  • Add button to unused space in JTableHeader

    I have modified my JTable so that I can have multiple rows of column headers. I did this by extending BasicTableHeaderUI. In my particular instance, the first column of the table will never have more than one row in the header (unlike other implementations of multi-row headers I have seen, my column headers don't automatically fill upwards to take up all usable space in the header). So, I have "unused" space in the header above the first column.
    I would like to put some buttons there that are relevant to the table, but so far every effort to do so has failed.
    In the SSCCE below I have created a very stripped down version of my TableHeaderUI. It doesn't contain any of the code to create multiple row headers, it just pushes down the standard column headers to create some space. I try adding a button to the rendererPane, but it doesn't show up. There is a commented out line that paints the button which does work in terms of showing the button, but that's probably not the right way to do this (and the button doesn't work anyway).
    So, why isn't the button showing up? Am I doing this the right way (i.e. adding the button within the UI)? Thanks in advance for you help.

    Yes, I've seen similar links/posts about how to activate buttons in the header of a table, but those do it by adding listeners to the renderer. My buttons would be directly in the CellRendererPane that is the container for the table header. I would have thought that by putting the button directly in the Cell RendererPane that it would have nothing to do with the rest of the table header. CellRendererPane extends Container. Is it not possible to put a JButton in a Container? JFrame extends indirectly from Container and you can add buttons to that.

  • HOW TO Delete Unused Media from FINAL CUT PRO

    *HOW TO DELETE UNUSED MEDIA FROM HARD DRIVE IN FINAL CUT PRO.* Keywords: disk disc drive space remove compressor
    SUMMARY:
    Say your original clip is 10 gigs, you can use only what you need and delete the rest from your hard drive. I know people on the forums say to just buy another hard drive, NO! It took 2 days to figure out but here it is!!! Email me if needed at [email protected]
    QUESTION:
    I captured 1 hour of video at a time and now want to delete from my hard drive all the parts I don’t want to use. I have 300GB of junk on my hard drive and I only want to use a few scenes using a few megabytes, so that I'll get most of my 300GB back!!!!
    ANSWER:
    In final cut on Mac, click on one small clip (to get familiar with process), go to “file”, “export”, then “using compressor”. This will open compressor software. Your file will open in the left top window. Then you need to batch the job or jobs. IMPORTANT: I’ve also solved the Compressor problem when you press “submit” to a batch and it states “Cluster: None”. Search forum for “In compressor you experience what I have”.
    <Edited by Moderator>

    Part of the problem could lie in the fact it's an imovie project coming into FCP, wouldn't rule that out. Second my be the terms you use and what you expect to happen. For example, a subclip is just a smaller clip subbed from a larger clip. It has nothing to do with media management. But you can media manage a subclip and delete the unused media.
    Try this (be sure to back up the original clip first). take a long clip into the viewer, make an IN and OUT duration of like 30 frames and then subclip that, Modify > Make Subclip. a new subclip will appear in the browser with a torn clip icon and the name Subclip. Right click on the subclip and choose Media Manager.... Check the Delete unused media from duplicated clip. As you toggle that the green Modified bar at the top change from the full clip size to a tiny modified size. If it does not then one of two things ... user error or the system is screwed up. That's the easiest way to test media manager.

  • Can't reclaim space in tablespace after deleting records

    Oracle 11gR1 RHEL5 64bit
    Hi.
    I am having trouble reclaiming space from a tablespace after having deleted all (thousands) of the records from a table (which resides in that tablespace). I have tried the following options to no avail:
    - Alter table <table_name> shrink
    - purge tablespace
    - purge recyclebin
    This table has several LOB columns and is using securefiles. I don't know if that has something to do with it or not. The tablespace is locally Managed and Segment space management is set to AUTO. Below is the create table command:

    OK, so you did a SHRINK SPACE CASCADE? Not just a SHRINK SPACE?That is correct.
    What makes you believe that there is more space that can be reclaimed? Well, what I don't understand is that when a table (and only that table) was assigned to a specific tablespace whose data was completely removed is showing as if the data is still there...at least when you look at the tablespace. If all the rows of a table are removed, then shouldn't the tablespace size go down? There was 95 GB of data in that tablespace and all from that one table, which was completely emptied. However, it still shows the tablespace as being 95GB full.
    Can you post the size of the table segment and the LOB segments as well as the size of the actual data in the table and the LOBs?Can you tell me which views you would like to the see the data from ? dba_lobs, dba_segments, etc... I want to make sure i have the right query for you.
    Here is some info...not sure if this is what you want (formatiing is off):

    where owner = 'IIQ'
    and tablespace_name = 'IIQDCMLOB01'

  • Unable to release space from table

    Hi all,
    We are unable to release space from a table called TST03 even after deletion of records.
    Followings are the information.
    Database     : 9.2
    Table Name      : TST03
    Tablespace     : LOCALY MANAGED.
    Previously there were lots of rows.
    At Present only 9 No of Rows.
    Space allocated     : 41 GB
    PCT_INCREASE     : Null
    One of the column is of LONG RAW type.
    Since the table is in LMTS, we were expecting that the space allocated will be released automaticaly after deletion of records.
    Now, what are the option left with us to release 41GB of space ?
    A. Is there any effect of "Drop storage" option of 'Truncate table' command ?
    B. If yes , can i copy all the 9 rows to a new table, then use "Truncate table TST03 drop storage", check if space is released and then copy back all the 9 rows to this table.
    C. Do you have any other easy solution apart from export/import ?
    D. Checked all the relevant Note(646681,48400,10551), could not find an easy solution. I  want to avoid offline export/import option.
    Thanks .

    Sorry, but that is not what LMTS is for. Wrong assumption.
    MaxDB e.g. returns space immediately - Oracle does not.

    Yes, the effect is, that after the truncate the table is empty and  only one extent is allocated - the rest is returned to freespace. That's the DEFAULT behaviour of TRUNCATE TABLE.
    > B. If yes , can i copy all the 9 rows to a new table,

    Nope - you would have to copy the LONG RAW columns as well and this cannot be done easily from sqlplus.
    > C. Do you have any other easy solution apart from
    > export/import ?
    Nope again - you'd have to use this offline reorganisation as long as you're not on Oracle 10g and the long raw fields got converted into LOBs. With 10g you might also use the SHRINK table command. But with Oracle 9i - sorry: exp and imp (will be pretty fast for 9 rows...)

    Sorry - no way to avoid it and still get the free space back.
    Anyhow you might want to take actions to prevent this situtation from reoccuring.

  • Removing unused media from Sequence cause crashing

    I am trying to remove unused media from projects prior to archiving to free up/clean up finished projects. Each project I have tried to do this with I am having the program close during process. Then when I try to reopen project it will not open and keeps crashing. Firstly are these project now corrupt, and can I still archive them somehow or get the project back?? Please help as the projects I have tried to do this with aren't of huge importance but I do need to try to clean up and archive others that are.

    It is safe to use the media manager...
    Check your hard drive for space...for 30 mins means you'll need at least another 6.5 GB of free space... make it 8GB to be safe...
    In media manager (NOTE : also read the manual carefully) use the COPY option...
    Using COPY, ensure the 'duplicate selected items and place into a new project' box IS ticked, this will set up a completely new project and folder, containing ONLY EVERYTHING you have in your 30 min sequence... and will not delete or change anything from the origonal... If you go to the new folder you'll see another folder called 'media'... this will contain all the clips etc.
    Then, open up the new COPIED project, watch it to check it's ok... if it's cool (which it should be) then you now have a completely independant project that is nothing to do with the origonal... and contains only used media.
    Then, open up final cut pro docs>capture scratch> 'project name' and you can simply delete ALL your old media manually, knowing that everything you need is now in a new folder elsewhere....
    Of course, this only works if you have that little bit of extra space left on your drive for the new media to be copied to... but i find it's the safest, and easiest way of removing unused media.

  • How do I fill the unused space?

    Hi there,
                I have an issue whereby I can not get the screen to use the unused space on the side of my presenter area.
    I have a big gray empty section on the right hand side and this makes my charts too small in the middle.
    Can any one tell me how to use the entire space available?
    I have tried to resize the screen resolution , tried using presenter area only tried clicking and dragging it wider but cant seem to get it to fill the gray area on the right hand side.
    I have attached a chart to show you what I mean.
    Thanx

    Hi there,
                Thanx for the answer...the problem is my members do see this area...that screen shot was sent to me from a member.
    They all can see that gray area which is why I am trying to fix it.
    I am a complete newbie to this software and so am still trying to make head or tail of the multitudious manuals and tutorials...
    would it be possible for you to post a step for step how to maximize the area seen by the members? I have attached a chart here sent to me from the same member of another connect pro room that uses all the space, have a look at their space usage...its fills the box and their off stage area on the right is very much smaller than mine.
    thanx
