Recommended storage profile on Axion Pillar 600 for Ms SQL Server

Hi,
I've just read the admin guide for the Pillar SAN and it has down the following recommendations for storage profiles with Ms SQL Server:
backup files- raid 5
quorum disk- raid 5
system db- raid 5
temp db- distributed raid
data- raid 5
logs - raid 5
Am I missing something? Running SQL server off raid 5 entirely seems crazy!!
Thanks

Again, you posted to a HARDWARE forum.
Edit:
Perhaps you should just log a SR with Technical Support, as per the advice here:

  • Full Database Backup in DB13 for MS SQL Server databases

    Hello,
    We have some SAP systems using the MS SQL Server database. I want to know if it is possible to setup the Full Database Backup option in transaction DB13 to store the files in a hard disk space.
    I already did this type of configuration in SAP systems in Oracle databases and for this I used the init<SID>.sap where we can put all the configuration, for instance the disk path where we want to save the backup files! But for MS SQL Server databases, in DB13, I don´t know how to do that, when I add the "Full Database Backup" option in DB13, this show me some options but only for tape, but I don´t want to store the backup files in tapes, I want to store/save the files on the server disk itself or else to an external disk but I don´t see where I can set this way of storage!
    This is what you see in DB13 (when using a MS SQL Server database) in "Full Database Backup" and as you see I only have options for TAPE not for a disk or other type of storage! How can I do that? (if that is possible):
    Can you help me please?
    Kind regards,
    samid raif

    Hello Raja
    Sorry for the delay of my answer! Many thanks for that tip, it helps a lot and it solve the last error/problem that I reported here, in fact, the problem was we had named the device with two words containing a space. So we removed that space from the backup device (in SQL management studio) with one word only and the job runs successfully without any errors!
    It works in Development and Quality systems but in our Production system (AM1) the Full backup option in DB13 stopped with the following error, in fact the error is on verification of backup, it means that the Full backup finished with success, but when it does the backup verification, the job in DB13 stops with an error, the following one:

  • BEA WebLogic jDriver for Microsoft SQL Server

    Will BEA continue to support current and future installations of WebLogic jDriver for Microsoft SQL Server 2000 even though BEA recommends to use the JDBC driver available from Microsoft? A written response is necessary in order to determine our future product development direction.
    Thank you for your attention regarding this matter.

    Actually, this driver is already documented as deprecated. We intended to remove it from a future
    release (most likely, the release after WLS 8.1).
    The plan is to ship another driver out-of-the-box. We have been evaluating various drivers
    for features, quality, and performance. We are pushing very hard to have this replacement
    driver available in 8.1SP01, which will also ship with the WLI/Portal/WLW GA (announced to
    ship in July). The most likely candidate is already in testing both at the WLS level and
    with the layered products. It also did quite well in an internal performance comparison.

    Thank you for your attention regarding this matter.Hi. We intend to deprecate it. We may or may not fix bugs that are found in it in future, and will likely
    not do any more development on it, such as implementing any JDBC 2.0 methods. It will be in
    our next major release (8), but may not be in future ones.

  • Problems upgrading to JDBC 5.1 driver for MS SQL Server

    Hi,
    I recently upgraded to the Weblogic JDBC 5.1 driver for MS SQL Server and I am
    now receiving exceptions in my application when attempting to execute a prepared

    has changed in the new driver implementation. Has anyone else had this problem

    It recommends using Microsoft's JDBC driver instead. Any thoughts on this? From
    what I understand and what I have read on the newsgroups, the Microsoft JDBC driver
    is still quite buggy and has numerous problems.
    Thanks, Nadeem.It is deprecated, but still supported, and is more recent in the download than the one in
    the 5.1 server. We do recommend MS's driver, or that of www.inetsoftware.de. The
    MS driver is fairly stable now, and may certainly have bugs, as does our driver. The MS
    driver is good because it is not deprecated, and supports JDBC 2.0 etc.

    What version of 5.1? You should be running with the latest service pack.
    If that doesn't help, please download the latest 5.1 driver from our

    make sure it's in the weblogic.classpath ahead of all other stuff, by
    editting the
    startWeblogic script.

  • Is there a forum or additional documentation for Adobe Flex Connector for MS SQL Server?

    Is there a forum or additional documentation for Adobe Flex Connector for MS SQL Server?  I am having problems getting it to work.  Also it states that it is Flash Builder 4 certified but the code is all in halo (<mx:Application ...).  I followed the documentation in the included PDF to no avail.  I am looking for additional documentation - e.g.:  a)  where exactly (which directory on the SQL Server) to store the "fas_mssql_connector.asp" file;  b) how to code the URL to the  "fas_mssql_connector.asp";  c) wondering if the product is really Flex 4 certified.  Thanks for any help (especially pointers to additional documenation).

    I do have exactly the same questions. SO far the fas_mssql_connector.asp file is placed at the 'wwwroot' folder of the 'inetpub' folder of the IIS server. As hostname I use '[MyServer]' since it should run on the same machine and username and password are correct.
    The fas_MSsql_Clean file is setup in a way that the name of the database is specified and the url to the asp file is set as: http://[MyServer]/fas_mssql_connector.asp
    My SQL query looks like this:
    private function getDbData():void
        mssqlQuery("Select * from Tomat", "getDataO3");
    And the MXML document like this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="absolute" minWidth="955" minHeight="600">
        <mx:Script source="Actionscript/MSsql.as"/>
        <mx:Script source="Actionscript/SqlQueries.as"/>
        <mx:DataGrid x="148" y="95" id="dgData">

                <mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Column 1" dataField="col1"/>
                <mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Column 2" dataField="col2"/>
                <mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Column 3" dataField="col3"/>

        </mx:DataGrid>
        <mx:Button x="148" y="264" label="Get data" id="btnGet" click="getDbData()"/>

    However the application is busy for a long time and I do not receive a single piece of data. Any help with this?

    We have used the same because we have downloaded the driver from following location
    https://websmp108.sap-ag.de/msplatforms ;   > SQL Server > JDBC Driver for MS SQL Server (Version 3.70.10)
    I have tried with both "com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver"; and "com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver";, but still I am facing the same error.
    Service market place has given the driver as "JDBC Driver for MS SQL Server (Version 3.70.10)", is there a way to find out if it is for 2000 or 2005?
    Thanks for your reply.

    Obviously, I would like to get this setup to work, but I also have couple other questions regarding this setup.
    1. When installing the gateway, it asks to run the root.sh script.  the root.sh script as for the following.
    Enter the full pathname of the local bin directory: [/usr/local/bin]:
    The file "dbhome" already exists in /usr/local/bin.  Overwrite it? (y/n)
    [n]: n
    The file "oraenv" already exists in /usr/local/bin.  Overwrite it? (y/n)
    [n]: n
    The file "coraenv" already exists in /usr/local/bin.  Overwrite it? (y/n)
    [n]: n
    is the above answer correct?
    Thanks for reading.

    Hi,
    I was having the same problem and to solve it u have to point your classpath to
    mssqlserver4v65.jar in the lib directory of your wl installation, in my case i
    did:
    set classpath=%classpath%;%WL_HOME%\lib\mssqlserver4v65.jar
    I hope it helps.

  • Connection problem in Crystal Reports for Eclipse(SQL Server Express 2008)

    I tried to connect into a local SQL Server Express 2008 database in Crystal Reports for Eclipse (CR4E), but always  got the Ping failed message(TCP/IP connection failed) even I tests completed successfully using my Window XP Adminstrators Tools (SQL Server ODBC Data Source Test). I can connect successfully to a remote network Oracle database in CR4E. I would like to know
    that is there any one who connect SQL Server Express 2008 local database successfully in CR4E?

    Don,
    Thanks for your suggestions. I will follow your instruction to connect to SQL Server Express 2008 database latelly. I can connect successfully with different Oracle databases (10g) in CR4E. I will try to connect MySQL database and Postgres database in CR4E  to see if they can be  successful or not. My project involves international entities with emphsizing  in using OPEN SOURCE softwares (which means FREE - no license fees) in .NET platform for Oracle, SQL Server Express, MySQL and Postgres database servers. I am responsible for reports generation. I hope that CR4E can be connected successfully to SQL Server Express 2008 database server, otherwise I have to use JFreeReport/JFreeChart tools to do reports generation .

  • Oracle Gateway for MS SQL Server
