Recordset putting into a vector

Hi. I have been struggling with this piece of code. What I am trying to do is, doing a "select all" query on a table and building a Category object from each record. Then I am putting each object into a vector and return the vector. But I keep getting a null pointer exceprion. Can anyone pls figure out whats wrong with this code?.
Thanks a lot.
private Vector doQuery(String sqlQuery)
          Vector list=null;
          Statement statement = null;
          ResultSet resultSet = null;
          Category c = new Category ();
          try{
               statement = trManager.getDBConnection().createStatement();
               resultSet = statement.executeQuery(sqlQuery);
               if(resultSet!=null)
                    while(resultSet.next())
                         int i =1;
                         c.setCategoryCode(resultSet.getString(i++));
                         c.setCategoryName(resultSet.getString(i++));                              list.addElement(c);
          catch(SQLException e)
               System.out.println(e);
          finally
               trManager.closeResultSet(resultSet);
               trManager.closeStatement(statement);
               return list;

what is the query that ou are executed
what is the no of rows expected from the query.
If it is too large then the possible cause for EOF
exception may be lack of memory/I doubt that this relates to OOM.... also the next() will not iterate over null returns so....
Please post corrected code and the excption stack for clarity... :)

  • Put database result set into a vector?

    I have a resultset rs I would like to put into a vector but I don't seem to get something fundamental. I can put individual items in with add() for instance but how do I dump a whole result set in there...
    and if I do so should I turn them all to strings before putting them into the vector?
    Any general advice would be appreciated, I've read a lot about Vectors today and have ended up more confused than I'd have expected. So I have come to seek some basic advice.
    private static void showResult (ResultSet rs) throws SQLException {
                            Vector vector = new Vector();
             try
                     // rs is the resultset output from a database
                                      vector.addAll(rs);
             catch(NullPointerException ex)
                    System.out.println("bugger - null pointer exception");
                    System.out.println();
                    ex.printStackTrace();
    }

    Iterate over the resultset, create your own object to store data for each row and add that object to the vector. There is no escape from this.
    catch(NullPointerException ex)You should not be handling Runtime exceptions. You need to take care not to let them occur through your coding logic.

  • Putting a Class Object into a Vector

    HI all
    I need to put a class object into another classes vector, then be able to read it and retrieve data.
    I can put the object into the vector but all i seem to be able to retrieve is data like Account@2343c2.
    Is this some sort of tag? How do i get to the data?
    thankz
    joey

    That's what you get when you print an object which does not have its own toString() method to do anything different - it picks up the Object class's toString method instead. For example:
    System.out.println(new Object());It sounds like you're doing something like this:
    Vector v = new Vector();
    v.add(new Account(42));If you were to do the following, you would see that sort of output:
    System.out.println(v.get(0));The appropriate way to do this would be something like the following:
       // Use a List reference instead of a Vector reference, and create
       // an ArrayList object in preference to a Vector object
       List list = new ArrayList();
       list.add(new Account(42));
       // Iterate through the list of accounts - use an
       // iterator because this prevents off-by-one errors
       // that arise with direct indexing.
       Iterator i = list.iterator();
       while(i.hasNext()) {
          // Cast the reference returned by the iterator from
          // Object to Account so that we can call account-specific
          // methods.
          Account current = (Account)i.next();
          // Call the method specific to the Account class (getBalance
          // is just an example that I made up).
          System.out.println(current.getBalance());
       }

  • Put strings into a Vector

    Does anyone know how to put strings into a vector here is my code to put some names of files into one.
    Vector machines = new Vector();
    String dir = "F:\\APPS\\SPCII\\DATA\\";
    File directory = new File(dir);
    machines.addElement (directory.list());
    But when I print the vector, it only prints the address.
    Thanks

    list() returns a String[] array. if you store it in an array, say
    String[] dirlist=directory.list(); you can use dirlist.length and a for loop to enter the elements of the array one by one into the vector

  • Changing a photo into a vector in Ai using High Fidelity

    I fully understand how to change a picture into a vector in Ai and to be clear,  I don't want a silhouette or a black and white image, I want to use the picture.  I have had good success with using the high fidelity option to change the pic and it looks great.  The problem is, I am using a cutout and when I use the high fidelity option it fills the background in as white instead of a transparency.  I've even tried to hit the ignore white button but it does not help.  I've resorted to then opening it in PS and removing the white and saving as a PNG24 but, when you then open in Ai to work with again it's then again pixelated.

    You need to expand and ungroup after the trace. Then delete the white you do not want. I missed a little piece in the last screen shot. But you get the idea. I put a black background behind the trace.
    Traced:
    Expanded and ungrouped:

  • Text put into a canvas element with context.fillText() always has a black box where each letter goes. If the text is black you just see the black rectangle. If the text is not black you see it on the black bounding box. Surely this is not right.

    This has happened on the last few versions of firefox, as long as canvas has been supported. I see other people's screen shots from canvas tutorials, and the text always looks normal. On my system, any text put into a canvas element via context.fillText() will have a black bounding box for each letter, sized appropriately for the letter. If the text is black, of course you only see rectangles. If the text is a contrasting color, then you can read it, but it looks bizarre.

    Thomas...same kind of crap here.
    I used Custom Text - entered a sentence, hit return, entered another.
    Set to 72 pt.
    The default alignment is centred - I want left aligned text...the text start point stays at the centre of frame and the sentence runs off the edge of the bounding box.
    There is no settings in the Text or Title inspector dialog to correct that!
    Using Transform will not sort it!

  • Is there a limit to the number of addresses can I put into a group of multiple users in my address book?

    I have just started using Thunderbird and want to set up a number of list groups in my Address Book so that I can simply click on the list name and the email goes to multiple people.
    Is there a limit to the number of addresses that I can put into each group? Or, can I put as many addresses into each group as I want to? Thanks for your answer.

    Thunderbird has no limit.

    Somehow my iTunes app has been put into the trash.  How can I get this and all of the stuff that was in it back to my Application folder?  I try to drag it out of trash, but it won't work.

    Also, when I do try to drag it out of the Trash to put it back into Applications (on the Finder sidebar), it asks me to authenticate with the administration password.  I enter it, and then a window appears saying that I can't do that because I do not have permission to modify iTunes.  Please help.

    Quit posting 300 line programs to ask a question. We don't care about your entire application. We only care about code that demonstrates your current problem. We don't want to read through 300 lines to try and find the line of code that is causing the problem.
    If you need further help then you need to create a [url http://homepage1.nifty.com/algafield/sscce.html]Short, Self Contained, Compilable and Executable, Example Program (SSCCE) that demonstrates the incorrect behaviour, because I can't guess exactly what you are doing based on the information provided.
    And don't forget to use the [url http://forum.java.sun.com/help.jspa?sec=formatting]Code Formatting Tags so the code retains its original formatting.
    Here is a simple SSCCE. Now make your changes and if you still have problems you have something simple to post. If it works then you add it to your real application.
    Learn to simplify your problem by simplifying the code.

    Hello dancetoday07,
    Let's see if we can square this away for you. With backing up your iPhone, it will back everything you have using iTunes and if you use iCloud, by default, backs up everything. After you have made a backup you can restore that to put the contents of the backup on your replacement iPhone. If you want to put certain things back on, you will at least need to export the content to your computer, like your photos and videos. If you only want to put certain things back on, then you will need to sync that over with iTunes. All the information you will need are in the articles below.
