Recover database to another database -- RMAN duplicate?

I have a situation where I want to restore our production DB on server 1 (prod1) to test DB on server 2 (test1) to a paticular point in time. I have rman catalog and backup of production database. DB versions our both 10.2..0.3.
I have been attemtping the following
rman target sys@prod1 catalog rman@catalog
connect auxiliary sys@test1
run{
set until time "to_date('07-05-2007 07:00', 'DD-MM-YYYY HH24:MI')";
duplicate target database to test1;
This fails with RMAN aboritng and then a bunch of RMAN-05001 errors saying that auxiliary filename XXXX conflicts with a file used by the target database...
I am confused why does it care what the target DB files are or that there is a conflict when it should be restoring to the auxiliary database (test1)? I want to restore my target DB (prod1) to my auxiliary DB (test1)... What am I doing wrong?
Is there a better way to attempt to use a backup from yesterday to restore into another (non-production) DB? Is the approach I am using correct or workable, and I am just missing something?
Thanks

There are a couple of work around for this, the Oracle document has this fully covered.

    1) You use nid only to change the dbid.
    2) I have done this type of cloning much more than 50 times.
    3) As Iordan Iotzov pointed out, in 11gR2 you can run DUPLICATE database without being connected to the PROD
    Here is a sample code of how to do it assuming both file system are the same:
    # -- RMAN Restore to another server
    rman <<EOF2
    CONNECT TARGET /;
    STARTUP NOMOUNT
    SET DBID 987654321;
    CONNECT CATALOG rman/rman@rcvcat

  • How to Add Sales order from one database to another database

    Hi All,
    I am trying to add sales order with sales order object.
    I have completed connectivity from one database to another database.
    but i am unable to post sales order with orders object.
    My code is
    ObjSales = objMain.objUtilities.GetBusinessObject(SAPbobsCOM.BoObjectTypes.oOrders)
                ObjSales.DocDate = Date.Parse(System.DateTime.Now().ToString("d"))
                ObjSales.DocDueDate = Date.Parse(System.DateTime.Now().ToString("d"))
                ObjSales.TaxDate = Date.Parse(System.DateTime.Now().ToString("d"))
                ObjSales.CardCode = "C0006"
               ObjSales.Series = 92
                ObjSales.PaymentGroupCode = 3
                ObjSales.Comments = "vivek"
               ObjSales.Lines.Add()
               ObjSales.Lines.SetCurrentLine(1)
               ObjSales.Lines.ItemCode = "5127"
               ObjSales.Lines.Quantity = 100
               ObjSales.Lines.UnitPrice = 10
               ObjSales.Lines.WarehouseCode = "01"
                ObjSales.Lines.TaxCode = "0"
                ObjSales.Lines.DiscountPercent = "0.00"
                ObjSales.DocTotal = 1000
                 If ObjSales.Add <> 0 Then
                   objMain.objApplication.SetStatusBarMessage("Sales or Not Posted", SAPbouiCOM.BoMessageTime.bmt_Short, True)
                   Exit Sub
                else
                  objMain.objUtilities.ShowSuccessMessage("Sales Order Posted successfully")
                End If
    The above code is executing successfully.But the Sales order is not getting added.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Vivek,
    If the code you posted is not throwing any errors, then the order really does get created. Apparently just not to both databases, am I correct ?
    vivek.Y wrote:

    That means that apparently you have not gotten this bit right.
    Generally speaking if you want to create an order into two databases, you first need to connect to both databases and create separate order objects for each database. So you need to do this bit twice; once for each database. Something like this:
    ObjSales1 = objMain.objUtilities1.GetBusinessObject(SAPbobsCOM.BoObjectTypes.oOrders)
    ObjSales2 = objMain.objUtilities2.GetBusinessObject(SAPbobsCOM.BoObjectTypes.oOrders)
    Then at the end you also need to add both objects separately:
    If ObjSales1.Add <> 0 Then
    etc.
    If ObjSales2.Add <> 0 Then
    etc
    Good luck,
    Johan

  • Different ways to Transfer data from one database to another database

    Hi all,
    What are the ways to transfer data from one database to another database. With the following options, i Can transfer data as far as i know. Please
    correct me if i am wrong or tell me if there is any other options are available.
    1) Create database link/connection string and using this string and COPY command, we can transfer data.
    2) By using Export and Import utilities.
    I told first one to my interviewer, he told, its strange, by using, COPY command also can we transfer data ? As far as i know, we can transfer data. Am i right ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Pal

    transfer data from one database to another database.You mean store the data of one to another?
    1) Create database link/connection string and using this string and COPY command, we can transfer data.every SELECT on a DB-link is transfering data. And you can have all kind of transfers and store on the e.g CTAS of materialized views or.... the SQL*PLUS COPY :
    The COPY command is not being enhanced to handle datatypes or features introduced with, or after Oracle8i. The COPY command is likely to be made obsolete in a future release.
    But there are many others. Check for ORACLE Streams, and the "COPY" your interviewer was mentioning is about the operating file system COPY right? That's transportable tablespaces.

    2. When accessing tables like dba_users, dba_objects, i.e. v$ things, it runs fast. When accessing tables like sys.aud$, schema_name.some_table_name, it just keeps running.

  • Move a procedure from one database to another database

    Hi all,
    I have a procedure belonging to a schema in one of the databases in a server (say host A).
    I have a new server (say host B) and I have installed RDBMS and have created a database.
    Now, I want to move that particular procedure (in host A) to the new schema of a database in host B.
    What are the steps to be followed? please help me out.
    Note: It is not moving a procedure from one database to another, infact from one host to database in another host.
    Thanks,
    ora_sri

    The steps are:
    1. Pay more attention to your instructor in school.
    2. Do your web searches using google.com so as not to ask other people to help you cheat on your exams.
    3. Apologize to your instructor.
    How do I know you are a student?
    1. No version number.
    2. No such thing as host A and B
    3. If you had ever written a procedure in your life you would already know the answer.
    So let us add #4 to the first list.
    4. Write a stored procedure, save it to your hard disk, and then stare at the file you created until inspiration strikes you.
    Sorry for being harsh here but I spent 10 years teaching Oracle at the University of Washington and I failed students
    who did what you did. Even asked that one be expelled. So I am doing you quite a favor and hope you learn the lesson
    I am trying to teach for your own good.

  • How to mirroring/replicating a table from one database to another database?

    I am having a table in 10g Database.
    I want to mirror this table in 9i Database.
    How to do this?

    1) Just to clarify, it is quite possible to use Streams between a 9i and 10g database (note for future reference that specifying actual database versions, i.e. 9.2.0.4 or 10.2.0.4 rather than marketing labels is generally helpful because there may be differences between different 9i and 10g releases)
    2) Are you setting up one-way replication? Or will changes be made on both databases, implying the need for multi-master replication?
    3) Why doesn't the table have a primary key? Could you declare a primary key? If not, you'd have to use the ROWID (i.e. specify WITH ROWID when creating the materialized view log and the materialized view) which tends to cause maintenance issues down the line. It really doesn't make sense to replicate a table without a primary key-- it really doesn't make sense to design a table without a primary key the vast majority of the time.

  • Restore new database form another database backup

    It is possible to restore a new database on a new host from old database backup files (after old database failed from media failure)?
    I want to do it just for testing purpose.
    I appreciate your help.
    Thanks in advance!

    Since you hide OS and database version, only a general advice is possible: see the chapter 'restore database to a new host' in the documentation provided for your environment.
