Recover from dropped SYSAUX datafile
Trying to recover a DEV database without rebuilding it, but not hopeful at this point. Basically, someone dropped the SYSAUX (and a few other) datafiles, so now they are showing up in the database as MISSING0003 instead of the actual filename. There are no backups, but I want to drop the tablespaces (not SYSAUX) and in trying to do so, I'm getting an error about the SYSAUX tablespace for some reason. How can I rebuild or recover from the SYSAUX issue, since I cannot drop the SYSAUX tablespace, as it seems to be preventing me from dropping any of the other tablespaces that have missing datafiles as well. I really just need to recreate the tablespaces, but get the below error when I try to drop the schemas (with cascade) or the tablespaces (including contents).
SQL> drop tablespace DATA001 including contents;
drop tablespace DATA001 including contents
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 2
ORA-00376: file 3 cannot be read at this time
ORA-01111: name for data file 3 is unknown - rename to correct file
ORA-01110: data file 3: 'C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.2.0\DB_1\DATABASE\MISSING00003'
ORA-06512: at line 19
Any help to get past the first issue of dropping the non-SYSTEM tablespaces would be great, and any follow-up on how to rebuild/recreate/recover from the dropped SYSAUX datafiles would be appreciated as well.
DB is 10gR2 on Windows.

Without backups you are not going to be able recover the dropped data files. Given that one of the tablespaces was the required SYSAUX tablespace you are most likely looking at a rebuild instead of a restore.

Best way to recover from "drop user; drop table space"
Hello,
I am practicing several different RMAN recovery senarios on oracle 11g windows 2003.
The senario that I am stuck on is.
drop user MYUSER cascade;
drop table space MYUSER including contents and datafiles;
Originally, I was trying to do this with RMAM. From further reading, it seems that RMAN fit for this type of recovery.
What is the best approach to recover from this?
thanks for any tips.DBPITR did not bring backup my tablespaces.

Drop one datafile from Tablespace
Hi,
I have 9i Database on Linux. I want to drop one datafile from tablespace. I have tried to drop datafile through following command but it gave no effect.
alter database datafile <datafile name> offline drop;
What should i have to do for dropping datafile?
Do the needful
Thankx in advance.Hi
since you dont specify the database version or if you have it setup as archivelog or noarchivelog mode, i paste the drop specs for dropping a datafile, from SQL Reference manual of 9i
DROP If the database is in NOARCHIVELOG mode, you must specify the DROP
clause to take a datafile offline. However, the DROP clause does not remove the
datafile from the database. To do that, you must drop the tablespace in which the
datafile resides. Until you do so, the datafile remains in the data dictionary with the
status RECOVER or OFFLINE.
If the database is in ARCHIVELOG mode, Oracle ignores the DROP keyword.

Can I Drop a datafile from UNDOTBS
Hi!!!!
I want to drop a datafile from UNDOTBS . can I Drop it.
If yes then how to drop ? what is the effect of it on database?
If anybody knows the the answer then Pls reply..You can do this provided test it before doing it in production
Steps.
1. Create a new Undo tablespace
2. Shutdown the database
3. Change the parameter UNDO_TABLESPACE to the newly created undo tablespace
4. Start the database
5. Do whatever you want with the old undo tablespace. -
TSPITR - Recover a Dropped Tablespace aborting due dependency over XDB.
I found an issue using TSPITR to Recover a Dropped Tablespace when XML DB (XDB) is installed on a different tablespace from "SYSAUX".
During execution of TSPITR RMAN use Data Pump to export/import Tablespace Metadata as Data Pump has dependency over XDB views and related objects and XDB is installed on a set of tablespace not included on dummy database then EXPDP fails.
Errors raised ORA-39123, ORA-00376, ORA-01110.
I didn't found any limitation about XDB location on documentation or MoS.
This looks like a Oracle Bug.
See this:

In my view, they (mean Oracle) need find way to include XDB Tablespace at DUMMY database only to export (EXPDP) Metadata purposes.
If someone get a workaround for this error will be grateful.
P.S: This is not a Production environment and will soon open a SR on Oracle Support.Hi Michael,
I did not find solution to use TSPITR to recover dropped tablespace if XML DB is installed in a non-default tablespace (i.e outside of SYSAUX).
As far I could understand, the only way to perform this RESTORE is using the old fashion. By creating clone database excluding all unnecessary tablespace, exporting and importing metadata from desired tablespace manually.
Since Oracle has not solved the issue I created my own workaround.
@All
If someone is able to use TSPITR to restore dropped tablespace when XDB is installed in a non-default tablespace, please let me know!!!
The procedure below is supported on All Oracle Version since 10.1 until 11.2.
I DON'T RECOMMEND to create AUXILIARY (clone) database using the same server from TARGET because you can damage the TARGET database.
On this example I'm using same server.
See this example:

## PERFORM A FULL BACKUP AFTER RESTORE TABLESPACE.Regards,

Hi All,
In one of the test database the sysaux datafile is corrupted. And the database is not opening.
What I did.
1) make the sysaux datafile offline drop.
2) Open the database.
3) Add a new datafile to the sysaux.
Now my question is. When i try to drop the sysaux tablespace in migrate mode it is not letting me to do.
I can't drop the corrupted datafile being the first datafile of sysaux.
Please suggest .. How to drop the sysaux tablespace.

Edited by: user818118 on Mar 21, 2012 5:28 AMHello,
And now the concern I have is I wanted to drop the corrupted datafile.
And now the concern I have is I wanted to drop the corrupted datafile. Anyhow i can't recover it.You don't have any BACKUP nor ARCHIVE, you executed the ALTER DATABASE DATAFILE OFFLINE DROP, and the SYSAUX Tablespace cannot be DROPPED.
So, I think you should make a BACKUP of your current Database.
Then, CREATE a new Database and move the Datas from the old Database to the New One (for instance by using Transportable Tablespace or Export/Import Datapump ).
The SYSAUX Tablespace is created at the Database creation only.
The following Note will give you more information about this special Tablespace:

Hope this help.

ORA-03264: cannot drop offline datafile of locally managed tablespace
Hi list
A datafile was acidentally created on filesystem in one node of two nodes RAC.
After that the filesystem on which the datafile was created was out of space because of automatic control file backup and sysadmin move this datafile to another device. And before this action RMAN backup stopped work.
Now we replace the datafile to the original location, but it stay offline and recover status, and we cant bring them online because the customer dont have necessary archive logs to recover this datafile. RMAN backup is now working. But now we need to create a DataGuard on a third server and want to drop this datafile.
This datafile dont have any data segment and stay in most critical tablespace of the customer application which have more datafiles. This datafile in question isnt the first datafile of the tablespace.
SQL> select file#, status from v$datafile where name='/oracle/product/db/ars/dbs/arsystem.old';
FILE# STATUS
21 RECOVER
SQL> select file#, status from v$datafile_header where name='/oracle/product/db/ars/dbs/arsystem.old';
FILE# STATUS
21 OFFLINE
How can I drop this datafile?
Thanks
CristianoReview this metalink note, what to do:
How to 'DROP' a Datafile from a Tablespace
Doc ID:111316.1
If you cannot recover the datafile, you have to export the 'rest' of the tablespace (after statement 'alter database datafile '/oracle/product/db/ars/dbs/arsystem.old' offline drop;' was successfully issued). Afterwards drop the tablespace,recreate it and import the data).

Expdp or exp fails since sysaux datafile is corrupted.
Hi,
I need to migrate data from 10g solaris to 11g Linux. Expdp would work for my case, however sysaux tablespace is corrupted, expdp fails with all options. This is test database and we don't have archivelog files, I cannot recover sysaux datafile. Any idea is appreciated.

Khurram -
hi , i m new to this forums...
one of my Learning Instance sysaux Datafile was corrupted...
how to recover it?
is Point in time Recovery is Possible??Hi all,
If are there no backup for sysaux?
there is a corrupted block on datafile of sysaux.
Because this, I cannot export, drop, anything.
so, I´ve tried to use:
run
set newname for datafile 'C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.2.0\ORADATA\DEVDB\SYSAUX01.DBF'
to 'C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.2.0\ORADATA\DEVDB\DATA\SYSAUX01.DBF';
restore (tablespace sysaux);
switch datafile 3;
recover tablespace sysaux;
}But with this I got the error:
RMAN-06054: media recovery requesting unknown log: thread 1 seq 2874 lowscn 47185106
So I´ve tried:
BLOCKRECOVER DATAFILE 3 BLOCK 50139;But with this I got the error:
RMAN-03002: failure of blockrecover command at 04/29/2008 16:04:30
RMAN-06026: some targets not found - aborting restore
RMAN-06023: no backup or copy of datafile 3 found to restore
Is there any other way to restore and recover this?
I would like at least to export, but I got error too. :-(
thanks!!!!
Obs: I have backup for all database files, but when I did the backups,
because this datafile is corrupted, I take the tablespace offline. -
what is the name of the folders which are the backup of Itunes library? I am recovering from a virus, have no workable desktop in Win XP, but can search and find files and folders. I would like to move these backup files to a new computer, authorize it and sync with Iphone 3Gs and Ipod 5th gen.
II second the whole iTunes folder approach.
If for some reason you have split the media folder from the library files then the media folder needs to restored to the same path it used to have while the library files can be copied into the music folder of your new profile.
If in dobut, backup up the entire Documents and Settings folder before wiping the infected drive, but be selective about what you restore as many viruses drop active components capable of reinfecting the compuer in the temp folders and internet caches. It is much easier to backup more than you need than to discover after the fact that you no longer have access to some vital project you'd been storing in a folder on the desktop.

Database Recovery From Backup Or Datafiles
I have a consistent full backup in NOARCHIVE mode, and want to restore to a new machine. I have created a new instance on the new machine, but can't restore from my backup on the old machine. I also have a full set of data files that I can copy to the new machine. Can anyone tell me how to recover using these files? I have found lots of info about recovering from database damage, but nothing about recovering from oracle/os damage. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Do u have the copies of initparameter files, control files, datafiles and also the redo log files.
copy all the datafiles including the redo logfiles to the new location, edit the initparameter to change the location of the control files, the archive logs , sid etc.
Login as internal at Svrmgr30 and startup the database in the nomount stage create a control file to reuse the existing datafiles and try to open the instance. -
How to drop the datafile in a tablespace
hi,
I need to drop the datafile in a tablespace.How to drop the datafile in the tablespace.If iam able to drop the datafile and is it possible to create the datafiles with the same name.could u pls help me out..
Thanks in advance,
R.Ratheeshsql > alter database <datafile> offline drop ;
sql > alter database open ;What if the datafile have the segments in it, I believe users will not be able to access them. And system will put the datafile to Recovry mode not drop it.
Dropping a datafle is possible only in 10G. In 9i you can reduce the size of file below the size of your min extents so that the space wont be allocated from that datafile or you may need to recreate a new tablespace copy all the segments from old tablespace and drop old one.

Recover database with corrupt datafile
I have an Oracle 9.2.0.6.0 database which has crashed due to disk failure & there is no backup. on the disk that failed there is one rollback datafile so I was hoping to be able to just drop this datafile & the related tablespace & recreate on disk that is OK.
I found the following instructions in a thread on this forum & managed the offline drop of the datafile & the alter database open. However when I tried to drop the rollback tablespace it couldn't find what I though the tablespace was. Now when I try & do anything with the DB is failed with the error -
Error 376 happened during db open, shutting down database
USER: terminating instance due to error 376
Instance terminated by USER, pid = 47050
ORA-1092 signalled during: ALTER DATABASE OPEN...
the instructions I was following were :-
Database was NOT cleanly shut down
I.e. Datafile was accidentally dropped using operating system command, when the database was not cleanly shutdown using SHUTDOWN ABORT COMMAND.
* Check the alert.log file for this instance.
* Comment out the ROLLBACK_SEGMENTS parameter and add the following line: corruptedrollback_segments = ( ,...., ) i.e., the above list should contain all the rollbacks originally listed in the ROLLBACK_SEGMENTS parameter.
* Mount the database in restricted mode. STARTUP RESTRICT MOUNT
* Offline drop the lost datafile.
ALTER DATABASE DATAFILE OFFLINE DROP;
* Open the database.
ALTER DATABASE OPEN.
* Drop the rollback tablespace to which the datafile belonged.
* Recreate the rollback tablespace with all its rollback segments. Remember to bring the rollbacks online after you create them.
* Make the database available to all users.
* ALTER SYSTEM DISABLE RESTRICTED SESSION;
You should be able to see your database back at this step.
Any ideas how to indentify the tablespace that I need to drop & how to get the database into a state that will let me attempt this?latest entries in alert.log ...

Drop a datafile that is offline and not on the OS
I am running a 2 node rac on ASM . 10gR2 on HP UX.
By mistake 1 datafile has been deleted on the OS , and that datafile is marked as offline in the dba_data_files.
How can I drop the datafile from the database.
since when I query the dba_data_files the datafile 10 ( which was deleted on OS ) , shows its still present and online_status is offline.
The datafile is not required and also there is no backup for the datafile.
ThanksHi,
ALTER DATABASE DATAFILE '<full file spec>' OFFLINE DROP;
example: just give '+dg1/../../..' if it not exists also give the same
Kind Regards,
Rakesh Jayappa
