Recover from Standby

Hi all
I have a standby database and I want to recover this database in other computer...
Which steps I must pass?
1. Shutdown database
2. Copy files from Standby database to my local database
3. Open database and activate it as a primary database
Am I right??
Thanks...

I have a master database which users are working on it.
And I have standby database in shutdown mode, which I applying on it my archive log files
I want to create a backup of my master but don't want online backup. And I can't do offline backup due to users working. And that's why I want to take a copy from standby database and create the same database on my another test machine..
Can I do it and how??
Thanks a lot

    My Mac minin used to run with OS X ML  24/7 without any problem. After Update to Mavericks  the Mac won't recover from standby mode. I have to power off the mac.
    I cleared nvram, pram, installed Mavericks second time.
    What can I do? Return to Mountain Lion?

    I gave Mavericks a second try. It failed. Made clean install ofe mavericks, setup user manually, reinstalled my most needed applications. The mac mini will not wake up from standby mode (blanc screen -> must reboot/hard reset; spinning beachball -> hard reset)
    I reset nvram and pram.
    Any advice? any chance to get informations by apple?

  • Recover the standby database

    Hi, I have both primary and standby database in ASM and I need to recover the standby database as it's falling behind for too long. The steps I did are:
    1. backup full database on primary
    2. create a standby controlfile and copy to /tmp on the standby
    3. on the standby, RMAN>restore standby controlfile from '/tmp/std.ctl';
    4. RMAN>restore database;
    5. SQL>recover managed standby database disconnect;
    However, the recovery always shuts down and I get the error:
    ORA-01110: data file 1: '+W08_DATA_DG/w08p/datafile/system.295.662256331'
    What's wrong with my steps?
    Your suggestion is greatly appreciated!

    the directory structures are the same. The standby was working before. It's just falling behind so I want to restore it from the new backup. Here is the init.ora

    hi
    I myself have found the solution , when I recover the standby database
    it do recovery but at the end of recovery it raise the error(RMAN-06054: media recovery requesting unknown log: thread 1
    seq 118 lowscn 1392700) but if I begain redo apply before open the database
    and I wait till all redo apply process start and communication between the
    standby database and the primary database start, then I can
    open the standby database and no error will raise
    but if befor restarting redo apply I open the database I'll recieve the
    ORA-01152: file 1 was not restored from a sufficiently old backup
    ORA-01110: data file 1: '/u01/app/oracle/oradata/sari/system01.dbf' error

  • When waking up from standby, monitors power up but no picture is displayed. HP ENVY Phoenix h9

    Product: HP ENVY Phoenix h9 PC Series
    Product #: H3Y51AA#BL
    Model: h9-1387
    OS: Windows 8 64-bit
    Monitors: DELL 2407WFPHC x 2
    Updated graphics drivers to latest non-beta version.
    Hello,
    Since purchasing my PC a few months ago, there has been one "display" problem after another. This is the current problem:
    When stepping away from my computer, I lock it via Win+L and shortly after my monitors turn off. When returning a short time later, I attempt to wake up (But not really "wake up"... To try and fix previous display problems, I've already disabled hibernation and sleep options) my computer by moving my mouse. This causes the monitors to exit standby and power up, but all that is dispalyed is black screens when I should have been presented with the login screen.
    Mouse and keyboard clicks do nothing and I'm stuck at black screens. To continue, I press my PC's power button which causes the hard drives to spin-up and shortly after the computer turns off. I press the power button again and the computer boots to the login screen where once I enter my password, Windows loads and all my programs etc are displayed as they were before I locked my PC.
    You can see previous problems I've had listed below, hopefully they will also help you detect the cause of the current problem.
    Please help.
    Thanks!
    Peter
    Previous problems that I've had:
    1) When waking from hibernation, the computer would not wake monitors from standby leaving no way to login and save work. Hard reboot required. Solution: Disable Windows hibernation features.
    2) Error along the lines of "Display driver failed and have recovered". Possible solution: Disabled hardware acceleration in Firefox.
    3) When waking from standby, I find my 2 monitors have merged into one, and at a different resolution than normal. Once entering password to login, programs that were on seperate monitors are now on the same monitor. Right-clicking the desktop and selecting "Screen Resolution" -> "Detect" would set the monitors back to normal until the problem occurs again. Possible solution: Updated graphics card driver. Not sure if this problem has been fixed, it may have just been covered up by the new problem mentioned above.
    This question was solved.

    Hey peterallcdn,
    I'm sorry you're running into this resuming from sleep issue. Sometimes services that are trying to resume can cause issues like this. I would suggest trying a clean boot (booting with only essential system services running) and then seeing if it resumes from sleep properly.
    Here are the steps to disable non-critical services:
    1. Windows + Q to bring up Search
    2. Type 'msconfig' and press Enter
    3. Click the Services Tab
    4. Check the Hide All Microsoft Services box
    5. Click the Disable All button
    6. Click Apply and Restart
    When you restart Windows should only load essential system services, no 3rd party software. Lock the computer and let it go into sleep mode as you usually do and then try to resume from sleep. Let  me know what the result of that is.
    I have seen other cases where Google Talk or antivirus programs will prevent the computer from resuming properly.

  • Restore production from standby database

    Hi,
    I would like to make a standby database for my production database.
    But, I have a basic question to restore my production database from standby database. There is a method to make it ?
    If I lost all files from production database, how to restore from my standby datase (which become in this case my new production database) ?
    thanks in advance for your help.
    gnom92.

    * I make a copy datafiles from my new production database (old standby database) on old production (where crash)
    * With my old production database, I make a standby database on new production database (old standby)
    * I can close the new production database and open the new standby database in read / write mode, and this is my production database.
    * After what I recreate my standby database (old standby,newproduction), or can I return in recover standby mode ?
    thank you very much for your patience.

  • How to create a clone of database from STANDBY?

    How can i clone a database from physical standby database?

    Steps to clone from standby:
    1. cancle the managed recovery process on standby
    sql>alter database recover managed standby database cancel;
    2. Remember your standby databse would be in mount mode.
    3. Connect to the auxiliary instance and to the standby database through RMAN
    rman target sys/<pwd>@standby auxiliary sys/<pwd>@auxiliary-connection
    4. If 11g, then run directly duplicate from active database
    rman>duplicate target database to 'auxiliary_db_name' from active database nofilenamecheck;
    5. Once, the duplication is done, start the MRP on the standby again
    sql>alter database recover managed standby database disconnect from session;
    Ok..You are on 10g.
    Perform the above steps, but only thing is 1st you need to take the backup of the standby database first.

  • How to recover my Standby databse

    Hi every one,
    I need a suggestion in recovering a standby database which is not in sync with primary for last 2 months. due to server issues we brought down our standby down and made my primary to no archive log mode ( disabled archive log mode).
    Now I've to recover my standby.... Please suggest what would be the best plan...
    Note : my primary databse is in no archive log mode now, i've to put it in archive before recovering the standby.
    I came up with few plans... you all can see those below however please suggest which on is the best or any new plans..
    1) take fresh rman backup and drop my old standby and recreate it..
    2) we are taking daily full export backups however we cannot import those in standaby since mount state import cannot write..
    Please suggest is there any other best way to mimise efforts in recovering this issues..
    Regards,
    Ramu

    Hi,
    Thanks alot for your reply... my database version is 10204..
    the thing is my primary database is not generating archives for more than a month (archival process disabled)
    now i will enable my archival process on primary...
    so at this time my standby is out of sync for more than a month where there are no archives...
    so if i take a incremental level 1 backup from the sequence where syandby received and recover the database
    would the above this is help full...
    because.... my primary last generated sequence was 16789, if i put my primary in archive then it will generate 16790 sequence...
    so the level one backup will have only once one sequence difference of data?
    Regards,
    Ramu

  • Create dev database from standby database

    Hi folks,
    I need to create a dev database by using RMAN's method of cloning. But, since it is business hours and the production database is being used at a very high rate, I cannot carryout the cloning by connecting the primary database as it may cause performance slowness.
    The time allotted for the activity is also very short. We have a standby database created for the primary database. So, my question is it possible for me to create the dev database using the standby database ?
    Database version is 11.1.0.6 and I can go ahead with the active database feature.

    Yes, you can clone from the standby database. Follow the below steps.
    1. Check if your standby database is in sync with the primary database.
    2. Cancel the MRP on the standby database.
    alter database recover managed standby database cancel;3. connect to standby as target database and dev database as auxiliary
    rman target sys/<pwd>@<standby-alias> auxiliary sys/pwd@<dev-alias>4. Your standby database would be in mount stage and dev in nomount stage.
    5. Run the duplicate command
    rman>duplicate target database to 'dev' nofilenamecheck;6. Once done, start the MRP on the standby database
    alter database recover managed standby database disconnect from session;

  • Trying to recover an standby database

    - Oracle 10.2.0.4 Standard Edition
    - O/S: Windows Server 2003
    - Phisically Standby
    We have primary and a standby database. My standby database was synchronized through copying archive redo logs from Primary to Standby. They were copied every 15 min to standby server and then they were recovered from there. Because a lot of archive logs were missed for ever, now my standby database is not synchronized with my primary.
    In order to recover my Standby, one week ago I followed these instructions:
    Step 1: On the standby database check the current scn.
    STDBY> select current_scn from v$database;
    CURRENT_SCN
    2527075174
    Step 2: On the primary database create the needed incremental backup from the above SCN
    C:\Documents and Settings\frego>rman target /
    run {
    allocate channel c1 type disk;
    BACKUP INCREMENTAL FROM SCN 2527075174 DATABASE
    format '\\srvbackup\archiveslogs-35\arch\incr_bkp_%U';
    Step 3: Cancel managed recovery at the standby database
    STDBY>alter database recover managed standby database cancel;
    Media recovery complete.
    Copied the backup files to standby server to "D:\arch\" folder.
    Step 4: Catalog the Incremental Backup Files at the Standby Database
    D:\arch> rman target /
    RMAN> CATALOG START WITH 'D:\arch\';
    Step 5: Apply the Incremental Backup to the Standby Database
    RMAN> RECOVER DATABASE NOREDO;
    Step 6: Put the standby database back to managed recovery mode.
    STDBY>> recover managed standby database disconnect;
    Media recovery complete.
    Step 7: On the primary create new standby controlfile
    PRIM>alter database create standby controlfile as 'C:\incr_bkp\standby01.ctl';
    System altered.
    Step 8: At Standby .. Replace standby controlfile at all location as shown by controle_files parameter.
    Copy the standby control file to the standby site. Shutdown the standby database and replace the stanby controlfiles and restart the >standby database in managed recovery mode...
    Problem was that there were new datafiles created in primary that didn't exist in standby. I had to created them manually on standby:
    ALTER DATABASE CREATE DATAFILE 'D:\ORADATA\PROD\OPEXT\DATAFILES_DATA\SIPESG_BLOB3.ORA' AS 'D:\ORADATA\PROD\OPEXT\DATAFILES_DATA\SIPESG_BLOB3.ORA';
    ALTER DATABASE CREATE DATAFILE 'D:\ORADATA\PROD\OPEXT\DATAFILES_DATA\SIPESG_BLOB4.ORA' AS 'D:\ORADATA\PROD\OPEXT\DATAFILES_DATA\SIPESG_BLOB4.ORA';

    ALTER DATABASE CREATE DATAFILE 'D:\ORADATA\PROD\OPEXT\DATAFILES_IDX\PADRONIDX17.ORA' AS 'D:\ORADATA\PROD\OPEXT\DATAFILES_IDX\PADRONIDX17.ORA';
    Also, I tried this commands:
    On Standby:
    RMAN> SHUTDOWN;
    RMAN> STARTUP NOMOUNT;
    RMAN> RESTORE STANDBY CONTROLFILE FROM 'D:\arch\standby01.ctl';

    - What is missing in order to open standby database?
    - Can I again generate rman incremental backups on Primary (from SCN 2527075174), copy them to Standby and start recovery again? Would it generate duplicate records on tables?
    - Should I generate new rman incremental backup pieces on Primary (from last SCN of Standby), copy them to standby and apply there?
    Remember that my Primary is growing every day and those rman backup pieces and standby01.ctl, that are copied on my standby server, are from one week ago.
    Thanks

    Should I issue the following and others on standby or on primary ?
    select process,status from v$managed_standby;
    Regards.You need execute that from standby instance.In additionally you can see standby instances alert.log.And if this process is active then if you execute this command again then you will get an error like "Media recover is active".

  • Clone from standby  ended in ARC: Cannot archive online log based on backup

    Hi
    I m into scenario where my prod db is in one data center and standby is in other data center.
    Both are geographically separated. I have to get a copy of prod on to standby data center side.
    Sending data over the network is taking long time either with duplicate db from active db or take backup and copy over standby side and restore it.
    so i thought of duplicate db from standby db which is in same data center, using 11g RMAN duplicate from active standby command.
    I have simulated scenario which is as below
    oracle version 11.2.0.1
    os version REHL 5.4
    My procedure & parameter are as below.
    on standby side from where i m copying (TARGET)
    1) on standby
    alter database recover managed standby db cancel;
    2)alter database convert to snapshot standby;
    which gave me
    /u01/data/DGSTD/archive/1_152_750425930.dbf
    /u01/data/DGSTD/archive/1_153_750425930.dbf
    */u01/data/DGSTD/archive/1_1_752604441.dbf*
    */u01/data/DGSTD/archive/1_2_752604441.dbf*
    3) alter database open;
    4) alter system switch logfile;
    now from rman
    RMAN> connect target sys/system@DGSTD
    connect auxiliary sys/system@GGR
    connected to target database: DGPRM (DBID=578436102)
    RMAN>
    connected to auxiliary database: NOTREAL (not mounted)
    RMAN>

    allocate channel prmy1 type disk;
    allocate channel prmy2 type disk;
    allocate channel prmy3 type disk;
    allocate channel prmy4 type disk;
    allocate channel prmy5 type disk;
    allocate auxiliary channel stby1 type disk;
    duplicate target database to ggr from active database
    spfile

    set 'db_unique_name'='ggr'
    set 'audit_file_dest'='/u00/app/oracle/admin/ggr/adump'
    set 'sga_max_size'='140m'
    set 'pga_aggregate_target'='28940697'
    nofilenamecheck;
    and when output of rman reaches up below
    Starting backup at 31-MAY-11
    channel prmy1: starting datafile copy
    input datafile file number=00001 name=/u01/data/DGSTD/datafile/system01.dbf
    channel prmy2: starting datafile copy
    input datafile file number=00002 name=/u01/data/DGSTD/datafile/sysaux01.dbf
    in alert log of clone db it gives massive error saying
    ARC3: Cannot archive online log based on backup controlfile
    ARC2: Cannot archive online log based on backup controlfile
    ARC3: Cannot archive online log based on backup controlfile
    ARC2: Cannot archive online log based on backup controlfile
    and it fill up whole fs. and finally duplicate command throws error.
    not sure what i m missing of inside duplicate command or is it valid to duplicate database from snapshot standby.
    can somebody light on it please

    duplicate target database to ggr from active database
    spfile
    parameter_value_convert='DGSTD','GGR','/u01/data/DGSTD/','/u01/data/ggr/'
    set db_file_name_convert='/u01/oradata/DGSTD/','/u01/data/ggr/'

    set 'db_unique_name'='ggr'
    set 'audit_file_dest'='/u00/app/oracle/admin/ggr/adump'
    set 'sga_max_size'='140m'
    set 'pga_aggregate_target'='28940697'
    nofilenamecheck;
    }I think you should use standby cluase as
    DUPLICATE TARGET DATABASE TO dup1 FOR STANDBY FROM ACTIVE DATABASE;

  • Failover from standby database to primary database

    Hi,
    Can anyone suggest me, How to do " Standby DataGuard database to primary database (dataguard)".
    Kindly Give me steps.
    Thanks,
    Shweta

    Hi
    Follow these steps
    Oracle switchover operation:
    1.     Check and verify the role parameter on the v$parameters both primary and standby
    On Primary
    Log_archive_dest_1=”this is the local archive destination”
    +Log_archive_dest_2=”This is the Service [TNS ENTRY]”+
    Log_archive_dest_state_1=Enable
    Log_archive_dest_state_2=Enable
    Fal_server=”this should have the tns entry for the standby
    Fal_Client=”this should have the tns entry for the primary
    Standby_archive_dest=”This should have the Location where the archive located”
    Standby_File_Management=AUTO
    On Standby
    Log_archive_dest_1=”this is the local archive destination”
    +Log_archive_dest_2=”This is the Service [TNS ENTRY]”+
    Log_archive_dest_state_1=Enable
    Log_archive_dest_state_2=DEfer
    Fal_server=”this should have the tns entry for the primary
    Fal_Client=”this should have the tns entry for the standby
    Standby_archive_dest=”This should have the Location where the archive located”
    Standby_File_Management=AUTO
    2.     Down all the applications connects to the database
    3.     Shutdown both primary and standby databases
    4.     For RAC Keep Only one primary and One standby up and all other nodes should be down
    5.     Check the Primary database on Open mode and the Standby database on mount stage
    6.     On Primary
    SQL>select switchover_status from v$database;Sessions Active or To standby will be appearing on the result
    SQL> alter database commit to switchover to standby with session shutdown;
    SQL> shutdown Immediate;
    SQL>startup nomount;
    SQL>alter database mount standby database;
    SQL>Alter system set log_Archive_dest_state_2=defer;7.     On Standby
    SQL>select switchover_status from  v$database;it is acceptable to have Sessions Active or To Primary
    SQL>alter database commit to switchover to primary with session shutdown;
    SQL>shutdown immediate;
    SQL>Startup;
    SQL.>Alter system set log_archive_dest_state_2=enable;8.     On Primary
    start the managed recovery
    SQL>Alter database recover managed standby database disconnect from session;9.     Check the log shipment is working from New Primary to New Standby Using
    SQL>Alter system switch logfile; ---- On New Primary.check the alert log on both Primary and Standby for the log shipment and Media recovery.
    10.     If the switch over fail issue the following statement on standby (ORACLE 9i)
    SQL> alter database recover managed standby database finish skip standby logfile ┘
    SQL> alter database commit to switchover to primary┘
    SQL> shutdown immediate;
    SQL> Startup;11.     If this don’t work please issue the below statement
    SQL> alter database activate standby database skip standby logfile;12.     If the switch over fail issue the following statement on standby (ORACLE 10g and above)
    SQL> alter database recover managed standby database finish force;
    SQL> alter database commit to switchover to primary;
    SQL> alter database open;
    SQL> shutdown Immediate;
    SQL> startup;13. Added the temp file to your temp tablespace
    If you follow the steps (10,11 & 12 ) you have to recreate the standby again. those steps are actually fail over steps. Hope this will be helpful
    Cheers

  • DR in deferred state-methods to recover the standby database.

    Hi all,
    i am new to Data guard.

    2.Now i am in the situation to resolve the problem.
    3.only 5days log sequence only we have before that it will purge(shell script)
    4.so there is no log collecting folder on DR server also.
    5.so kindly provide me what are the methods to recover the standby database.
    Its urgent.
    thank you in advance,
    regards,
    Jumbo.

    Hi SRP,
    DB status:
    1.*No ASM storage.*
    2.*oracle 9i.*

  • TSPITR using backups from standby

    Hi,
    I would like to ask for your opinion/advice regarding the following
    scenario. We have a primary 10.2.0.3 RAC database which has a physical
    standby database, both sites being managed through dataguard. Every
    night full RMAN backups are taken for the primary and standby
    databases. Between the primary and standby sites we do not have any
    shared storage like NFS or SAMBA (because of the problems mentioned
    into Note:413098.1).
    Now, as far as I know, backups of datafiles/archives taken from the
    standby can be used on primary, am I right? So, what I would like to
    achieve is to perform a TSPITR of one particular tablespace by taking
    a backup control file from the primary but using datafile copies and
    archives from the standby. And of course, because I don't want to load
    too much the primary, the auxiliary instance should be located on the
    standby machine. Is this possible? Has anybody tried this before?
    Many thanks!
    talek.

    if you are on 10.2.0.3, check this document and make use of Incrementally Updated Backups: Rolling Forward Image Copy Backup
    http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14192/bkup004.htm
    You can restore datafiles backedup from physical standby
    can restore archivelogs created on physical standby
    but can not use control file from standby to recover on primary
    You should be able to use bakcup from a physical standby and recover any tablespace in Point In Time on priamry prvovided you have a backup/datafile copy before and archives untill that time.
