Recover Standby DB/ Difference beetween NODELAY and UNTIL CHANGE options

Hello,
I have a data guard configuration with two databases (version 10.2.0.3), one primary and one standby.
I have defined a DELAY for apply logs on standby database with following option:
ALTER SYSTEM SET LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_2='SERVICE=DBSTDBY LGWR DELAY=60 SYNC AFFIRM' SCOPE=BOTH;
It works perfectly.
The question is about the fastest way to activate the standby database. To apply all logs received by standby database, I have got two options :
ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE NODELAY;
or
ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE UNTIL CHANGE lastchange;
It seems the option NODELAY is faster than the option UNTIL CHANGE.
Why is it faster?

And how do you think you will conserve disk space with RMAN ?
Stop and think about it : How can you revert a database AFTER you have Opened
it Read/Write ? You need to flashback it OR restore it from a backup taken before
the OPEN.
So, you could have taken a backup to Tape or to alternate disk before OPENing the
database. The backup to alternate disk can be via Flashback Recovery area or
a regular RMAN (compressed, you want ?) backup. In the second case, you wouldn't
be using a Flashback mechanism but a simple backup and restore method.

  • The system and namespace change option

    Hi Experts,
    I want to integrate a certain SAP Source System within RSA1. After submitting the correct settings for Background User and RFC connection the process leads me to the Source System where I logon with an User which has authorizations in SM59. From there on (the RFC Connection backwards is already defined) I got asked whether I want to user/check/cancel this existing RFC Connection. I click on use, wait for a while and then the error (please see below) appears.
    When proceeding with the steps mentioned in the error message (transaction SE03, Administration node, ...) I cannot find any IDOC Object ZSSA009. I think maybe it's related to some software component or somenthing like that which should be set as "modifiable" but I don't know which....
    Any Ideas on this?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Best regards
    Tobias
    Error Message:
    Message no. TO128
    Diagnosis
    The system and namespace change option set for this SAP System does not allow any changes to be made to object IDOC ZSSA009.
    System Response
    Editing is terminated, the object can only be displayed.
    Procedure
    If you want to edit the object IDOC ZSSA009 in this SAP System, have your system administator set the SAP System to "modifiable" for this object.
    This can affect the modifiability of the namespace &1 or the namespaces that correspond to the pattern &1, as well as the global setting of the system change option.
    The system change option is set using the Transport Organizer tools (Transaction SE03). Expand the Administration node and execute the program Set system change option. The options are described there.

    HI,
    Attached link may help you in configuring the source system.

  • Difference beetween QAASW and Web Service Connections

    Hi everybody,
    I'm trying to install a connection between Xcelsius and a QaaWS I created, but it doesn't work. In the list of the different connections available in the Xcelsius Connections Manager, the "QaaWS" connections doesn't appear. Instead of that I can choose the "Web Service Connections" type.
    Do you think this little difference can't be the source of my big problem?
    If not, do any of you would like to risk an explanation about this odd pheanomenom (which seems to belongs to the category of the surnatural things thats happens when I even try to undertake a slight complex task in my Business Objects environnment)
    In advance , thanks a lot ( why "in advance"? Because I feel, I'll get an answer, as an old bohemian woman who's suddenly poped in my office today told me one you would light the darkness of my interrogations)
    Bye bye !!

    Hi Meryll,
    As you have already noticed, invoking a QaaWS URL into the standard Web Service Connection will NOT fire, regardless if everything is configured correctly.
    I would assume that this is by design due to the fact that QaaWS Web Services are fetching data out of a BOE server.  As such, anything that has to do with BOE connectivity (LiveOffice, QaaWS, Open/Save/Import/Export to Enterprise) is only available in the Xcelsius 2008 Engage Enterprise edition.
    Thanks.

  • Whats the difference beetween is and as?

    I don't know if this is a valid question or not, but I've just started learning stored procs this morning and I observed that there are stored procs constructed this way:
    create or replace sp_name as
    begin
    end;
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE skeleton

    BEGIN
    DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('Hello World!');
    END;
    what is the difference between AS which was used in the first stored proc as compared with IS which was used in skeleton stored proc?

    Since you asked..
    I think you are both out of line with the tone of the post, and I disagree that Kamal's post was irrelevant. Pointing out that the interchangeablility of IS/AS is restricted to functions and procedures is a good thing. Otherwise we will see post like:

  • New voice features and voice changing options for ...

    Hello everyone!
    I am currently involved in a class project in which I am trying to understand whether companies like Skype would be interested in technology that can modify voice/call characteristics such as pitch and tone (for entertainment or audio improvement) or even add the possibility to use cartoon voices and so on. What do you guys think about this?
    All the feedback is welcome!!
    Thank you!

    Hi, Mcastanheira, and welcome to the Community,
    Whilst Skype may not be providing for such a facility, I trust you are researching third-party developer software add-on's which might.

  • Exchange rate differences between GR and IR

    Hi Gurus,
    i have a problem about a exchange rate differences beetween GR and IR. Customizing setting is done based on this logic (transaction OMRW, ERD setting = blank).
    For example: Goods Receipt amount is $100 and the posting is made with exchange rate 0,8. When busy with MIRO the user change manually exchange rate from 0,8 to 1,0. Moreover, the user change item amount from $100 to $150.
    When the user simulate the posting in MIRO, transaction KDM is not activated (used).
    Is to be underline that if item amount is not change but it remains untouched, transaction KDM is used correctly.

  • What is the difference between APL and UAFL?

    Hi There,
    Can someone please tell me the difference between APL and UAFL?
    As per my understanding APL stands for Automated Predictive Analysis and these are the set of algorithms which SAP inherited with the acquisition of KXEN and APL is enabled from SP9 onwards.
    So what is the difference between APL and UAFL?
    Can someone answer this?
    Regards,
    Arjun

    Dear Arjun,
    the main differences beetween AFL and APL are coming from the A of APL: Automated.
    Both AFL and APL can be used the same way (integrated into application), but the APL are Automated algorithms that are coming from InfiniteInsight technology. They give you the opportunity to perform advanced classification, clustering, regression, etc... without deep knowledge in predictive algorithm or data enconding as well. On the contrary, using AFL requires that you choose the right algorithm for answering your question, then set the specific parameters for that particular algorithm (ie: you now the algorithm and how to play with), you have to encode by yourself all the existing variable into the numerical space and handle by yourself binning, banding, missing values and outliers. All those mandatory steps are done Automatically using the APL algorithms.
    Kind regards,
    Gaëtan.

  • Active directory, SSGD and password change

    Hi everybody, we have some problems with SSGD, active directory and password change
    Scenario:
    We have 2 different perfectly working Active directory called "Gruppo" and "Eracle";
    We have 2 different tarantella installations called "Sgd" and "Tlv";
    Sgd servers are working servers and users authenticate against Eracle, used by our customer.
    We made 2 basic different test with Tlv:
    1. we configure Tlv to authenticate users against Gruppo (that is our real need)---> we can't change pasword using kpasswd or ttakpasswd
    2. we configure Tlv to authenticate users against Eracle ---> everything was ok
    There are NO DIFFERENCE beetween Sgd and Tlv, they have same configuration, same krb5.conf etc..
    There is ONE DIFFERENCE beetween Eracle and Gruppo:
    Eracle Active Directory's properties:
    Domain functional level: Windows 2000 mixed
    Forest functional level: Windows 2000
    Gruppo Active Directory's properties:
    Domain functional level: Windows 2000 native
    Forest functional level: Windows 2000
    SSGD documentation doesn't speak about different Active Directory properties. The SSGD documentation says that you can authenticate users against Active directory, so, IT HAS TO WORK even if the domain functional level of active directory is different.

  • Battery Standby time difference: Why iPhone 4 has more than 4s and 5?

    How come the iPhone 4 has more to it when it comes to the standby time for it's battery than iPhone 4s and 5? it shows on the device comparison that iphone 4 has 300 hours for standby time and the other two had less (225 and 220 hours). Would there be any specific article number in the Apple support page that would explain the reason for the battery standby time difference?

    I got a new iPhone 5 about 3 weeks ago. I notice that from time to time in my pocket it heats up high enough I can feel it trough the material, but not as to burn.  I read in a post in this fuorum that this hapened for some iPhones after they updated to the new IOS either when is recharging or some blame it on heavy gaming. Mine was not recharging and no game apps open, just the usual iTunes, Messages and phone as usual when I carry it. It happens about every other day, I can feel it through my pocket and soeme times when I am holding it it is quite hot. After a couple of minutes it seem to cool off again. it just does not seem right. (Im posteing in different discussion to see where I get an answer before taking it to the geniuses )
    PS: Dave049 I'll try your suggestion and try re-adjusting the SIM card . if it works I let you all know. thaks for the idea

  • SCN number difference in primary and standby databases

    Hi All,
    Is it possible that primary database SCN is 20 and standby database SCN is 22 ? If yes , how it works ?
    Thankyou !

    I agree that it is possible depending on your setup. However, I read your posting and BLOG entry but it does not address out the Standby database has a GREATER SCN than the Primary.
    The answer will depend on the type of standby database you have configured (LOGICAL vs PHYSICIAL) and perhaps if it is a SNAPSHOT Standby that has been used and not rolledback.
    In what I would consider "Normal" situations the SCN of the standby database would always either be at the same SCN or be lagging.
    I have not tested it but I could see where if you had a standby database that you converted to a SNAPSHOT Standby (11g ability), made changes to the standby and had not converted it back to a normal Standby then your SCN can be ahead in the standby because the changes had not been discarded yet.
    Regards.

  • What are the differences between inactive and active ABAP objects?

    Can anybody tell me what are the differences between inactive and active ABAP objects?
    In my opinion,  an active object is compiled and system wide available, that means the system do not have to compile the program again before run or use the object. While An inactive object is not system wide available and every time you run an inactive object, firstly the abap runtime will have to  generate a tempory runtime object and this inactive object can not seen by others.
    Am I right? Can anybody kindly tell me other differences?

    Hi,
    "When it is inactive, it is like it would not exist at all:" no - it's like it only exists to you
    "If we just saved that one means it is stored in application server not in database": no - the inactive version is also stored in the database. You can log off and log on and it will still be there, in its inactive status.
    "Only active objects can be executed.": no - inactive objects can be executed by you
    When you create or modify a program, it is inactive until you activate it.
    With a change, there are two versions of the program stored in the database - the active version (as it was before you made your change), and the inactive version. If you attempt to run the program, you'll run the inactive version - the one with your changes. Everyone else on the system will run the active version.
    In this way, you can make changes without affecting anyone else.
    Once you activate your program, then the inactive version becomes the active version.
    With a create, there is no active version, until you hit the activate button. This means ONLY you can run the program.
    An additional benefit of this model, is that if you make a change, save it, and then change your mind without activating, you can recover the active version into the editor, using version management.
    A downside is that sometimes you have to activate your change before you can test it, if it interacts with other, active, programs.
    Regards,
    Kumar
