Recovering Tunes From Trash

I accidentally deleted some hundreds of "songs" from my iTunes library, and they are currently in trash.
How can I recover these? I have  2013 MBP with "Mavericks" installed.

Open the Trash, drag the files back to the Automatically Add To iTunes folder or to an iTunes window.  If it complains about them being in the Trash you may need to drag them temporarily to an intermediate locaion (not to the desktop).

I have just purchased a new Mac and want to sync my ipod - previous computer was PC - can I recover tunes from the ipod to the Mac?

    1) authorize iTunes on the new machine for your iTunes store account(s)
    2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
    3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPod but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPod with it.
above covers purchases from the iTunes store. for everything else, check out this post by Zevoneer.

  • How do I recover tunes from my iPod after a hard disk crash?

I've just received my PowerMac back after a hard disk crash and am having to reinstall all software etc.
My iPod obviously contains all the music I'd downloaded from the iTunes music store and all the CD's I'd loaded manually into iTunes.
I can't see any way of copying the tunes on my iPod back into my iTunes library...
    Can anyone help?
I had to use a data recovery tool to recover data from my disk after the crash and it's going to be a really long job to sort out what's what...

You can't sync or drag your music back from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the files from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. I use Senuti but check the others out and choose whichever you prefer.

  • Recovering files from trash???

PLEEEEEASE HELP! Can someone tell me if you can recover files from somewhere in the system that have been deleted from trash

    Basics of File Recovery
    Files in Trash
If you simply put files in the Trash you can restore them by opening the Trash (left-click on the Trash icon) and drag the files from the Trash to your Desktop or other desired location. OS X also provides a short-cut to undo the last item moved to the Trash -press COMMAND-Z.
If you empty the Trash the files are gone. If a program does an immediate delete rather than moving files to the Trash, then the files are gone. Recovery is possible but you must not allow any additional writes to the hard drive - shut it down. When files are deleted only the directory entries, not the files themselves, is modified. The space occupied by the files has been returned to the system as available for storage, but the files are still on the drive. Writing to the drive will then eventually overwrite the space once occupied by the deleted files in which case the files are lost permanently. Also if you save a file over an existing file of the same name, then the old file is overwritten and cannot be recovered.
    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro. Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.

  • Recovering files from trash, OS8.1

I am unable to open the trash directory on a Mac 7100 running OS8.1. The window does not expand by clicking or dragging. This means I can't remove the individual files that I need to recover.
    Related information:
The trash has 4181 small ".txt" files in it, plus 8 folders.
I have tried a couple of things without success:
    1. Option-clicking on the trash.
    2. Control-clicking on the trash.
    3. Using "select all" then copying to clipboard. The file names are all then seen on the clipboard, but I can't access the files.
Any suggestions would be most welcome. I really would like to recover many of those files. Thanks!

Thank you for the suggestions. Assuming I find and run Disk Warrior or similar to create a new directory, then what? How will I get the files in the trash to it?
    Apologies for the limited understanding.

    Welcome to the Discussions.
Let me suggest that, before you undertake any
larger-scale exercise of rescue, that you take into
account the re-addressing that moving a considerable
number of files from one folder to another (here the
Trash) involves. This is especially true if any of
the icons in your folders are presently shown as
generic (page with a turned-down corner) rather than
    their normal guise.
If you have access to a file utility such as
DiskWarrior (always a good investment), use it to
construct an entirely new file directory for your
drive. Failing that, a less powerful but still
useful weapon is to rebuild the desktop of your Mac,
by starting/restarting with the keys command-option
held down together until the window asking whether
you wish to rebuild the desktop appears on the
desktop, and then accepting its offer.
If neither of the foregoing is of use, Niel's bigger
    hammer will be effective.

  • Recovering clips from Trash - can't drag out

I recorded some clips using the built in camera, hadn't saved the project and it shut down on me. I reopened the project, and they were all in the trash. But I can't seem to get them out of the trash... can any one help or should I just empty the trash and start over?

Yeah I am having this issue today too. Not able to copy / paste or drag and drop anything - it's almost as if the file is suddenly protected and not letting me make changes.
I am scouring the HD board here to see if the question's already been answered.
I too am using Imovie HD on the MacBook.

  • Recovering tunes from Ipod shuffle

Hi, I unfortunately had to reinstall Mac OS X and saved my purchased music from itunes store on my ipod shuffle with a bunch of other stuff. I can't figure out how to get them back to my itunes from my ipod. I am starting to wonder if I can do such a transfer at all (the transfer for my other stuff worked perfectly). If not, because I purchased them from itunes, can I get them back from there or do I have to buy them bac?
    Thanks for your help!

If Songs are yet in the shuffle you won't be able to see it in your Mac even in disk mode. They're in another folder called "iPod_Control\Music\F00" ...F01,F02 and so on.
but is a hidden folder for Mac OS, try plugging the shuffle in Windows XP/2K and you'll see it.
You also can download "ThinkerTool" from here http://www.bresink.de/osx/TinkerTool.html
it's for Mac so you don't have to use Windows..
Activate the option to reveal hidden files and Browse your Shuffle.. tracks shall be there yet...
Don't open iTunes .. since it could delete your songs, save them first..

  • Can I recover a file erased from Trash?

Good day to all the experts. I have mistakenly deleted a large file (about 20Gb) that manages my photo library in iPhoto, and on top to that also erased it from Trash. Perhaps it was called smt like Library*.iPhoto.
I still have all my row images in various folders but I see nothing when I enter iPhoto. About 2000 pics missing. Photos of my travels since 2005! Is there a way to recover a deleted file? Do I have to purchase a data-recovery software? Or are there any reliable freebies? I will be much obliged for your guidance...

Many thanks to Sig and Lymnos. I have tried the Data rescue software suggested by Sig, but I can't get it to work because it needs a separate drive to write on which i don't have - it does not accept a writable CD for that purpose. What i don't understand is the following. I found out that all my pictures are still accessible through the Pictures folder in the Finder (as Originals). But I do not see them anymore in iPhoto. I don't understand what the very large (20Giga) file that i deleted was.

  • Help needed recovering project files from trash

Hi everyone, I am hoping that someone will be able to help me. I just did something stupid!
I created two new projects in iMovie this morning and then needed to clear out the mac in order to speed up a clip as I was getting the warning that my disk was full. So I copied a lot of files from iPhoto onto a hard drive and then moved them to trash including the raw files that I was using for these projects. (I got a bit carried away!) Yes the video files were in iPhoto and not iMovie Events as the last time I uploaded files iMovie was not playing the game.
The files are still on the mac as I have not emptied the trash and they are also backed up on an external drive connected to the mac, but I have emptied the iPhoto trash. I tried importing the files back into iPhoto from trash and only got so far before the disk full message came up again. But even those ones that I did manage to re import are not showing up.
Is there any way that I can continue with these projects or have I effectively ruined them? Do I need to start again from scratch? I hope not as they took me hours and hours to create and had pretty much finished them.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. :-)

To see these "other" backups, you need the Browse Other Backup Disks or (Browse Other Time Machine Disks on Snow Leopard or Leopard) option.  It's available by Alt/Option-clicking the Time Machine icon in your Menubar, or by control-clicking (right-clicking) the Time Machine icon in your Dock.

  • Recovered files in trash after sleeping

Upgraded to Tiger 10.4.11 from Panther about 4 weeks ago using Erase & Install, then restoring apps, files, etc. with Migration Assistant from a clone. Flawless & painless--whew! However, I'm now having one minor but annoying issue--after playing Burning Monkey Solitaire, quitting, logging out & putting Mac to sleep, find recovered files in trash on next log in, specifically a couple of BMS text files. The Freeverse support folks are still working with me on this issue (suggesting doing a Secure Empty Trash, which didn't prevent the files from returning). I'm posting here, however, because today there was also an iPhoto folder (empty) in the Recovered files folder in the Trash. Any ideas on why this may be happening and how to stop it? I've used iPhoto since the OS upgrade without this occurring and, so far at least, no other apps (Word, Excel, other games, etc.) have been leaving orphan files on quit/sleep/logout that wind up recovered in the trash.
As I said, it's a minor annoyance, but hope it's not a symptom of something more serious. Thanks!

Thanks, but that's not quite what's happening here . . . first, neither Burning Monkey nor iPhoto unexpectedly quit--always were quit normally. Second, recovered files folder shows up after sleeping, not just after restarting.
