Recovery of VHD file from tape immediately gives null error, ID 1001, and job fails.

I am attempting to recover a VHD from tape.   When I finish the recovery wizard and it starts to create the job, I get an immediate popup error with an ID: 1001 and a "More Information" link that goes to a "page not found" on technet.
 There is no actual errror message or other info in the dialog box.  When I click ok, the dialog and recovery wizard disappear, and no job seems to have been created. 
I've seen a couple of other posts about this, but didn't find any solutions.  I did run a tape verification against the recovery point in question, and it completed.  (I don't see where it says passed/failed, just completed.  I assume the
job would have failed if it found a problem?)
I've also tried a couple of other recovery points, on different tapes, but am getting the same results. 
Any idea what is going wrong?

Can you provide DPM version and update rollup version.  Are there any events from MSDPM after the error, if so, can you supply the event details ? 
As a workaround,  you can restore the VHD by going to Management>Tape Library>Right Click on the Tape>select backup set for the data source containing the VHD and then click on the COPY button.  That will restore to
a network location and you can then copy it to the hyper-v server and replace the VHD manually.

    Okay, seems that one of the .vhd was broken. i did a new export in VI and import in OVM, now it works.

    You will need an app (or apps) on your iPad that is capable of reading the documents, as they will be saved with the app - if you don't have such an app then there is nothing to transfer them to or to read/access them.
    One method of transferring them is toconnect your iPad to your computer's iTunes, select it's app tab, and then scroll to the bottom of it - you should the apps That you've got that are capable of file-sharing (if you've got any).  Selecting/high-lighting one of them should then allow you to add files to it via the box to the right of it.
    An alternative way to get the documents onto your iPad is if the app that you want to transfer them to has a wifi setting, which will then allow you to transfer the documents wirelessly. You can also send the documents to yourself as attachments and then use Mail's 'open in' facility to copy them into your chosen app.

    File Sharing lets you transfer files between iPad and your computer. You can share files created with a compatible app and saved in a supported format.
    Apps that support file sharing appear in the File Sharing Apps list in iTunes. For each app, the Files list shows the documents that are on iPad. See the app’s documentation for how it shares files; not all apps support this feature.
    Connect iPad to your computer.
    In iTunes, select iPad in the Devices list, then click Apps at the top of the screen.
    In the File Sharing section, select an app from the list on the left.

    What happens when you drag it?
    Make sure the drive you are moving the files to has enough available space to receive the file:
    Click on the movie file and go to File >  Get Info and note the "size"
    Check the drive to which you are moving the file to make sure it has enough available space: https://idisk.me.com/madisonfile-Public/web/finder-drive-available-space-and-for mat.html
    Also note the format of the drive you are copying too.  If it is not Mac OS Extended or FAT (not recommended unless you are taking it to a windows computer) then that may be the issue.

    Is what you're saying that you only want backups in TM of the state of your Mac from January 2015 to the current date and nothing before then? I'd think the simplest solution would just be to delete in TM all the backups prior to 1/15 and then let TM do its thing. The ultimate source for all things Time Machine is here. On this page, note the comment that "Time Machine will never delete the backup copy of anything that was on the disk being backed-up at the time of any remaining backup" which I understand to mean that if you delete all the backups in the TM file prior to 1/15, any file that wasn't present on your Mac as of 1/15 will no longer be represented in the TM file. Note that the second link also has instructions for how to delete TM files.
    If you were trying to accomplish something else, then as Emily Litella (Gilda Radner in SNL) used to say, "never mind."

    Sorry, yes this is Microsoft Excel.  The Microsoft XP has Excel files denoted as xl, the later versions of Microsoft Excel are denoted as xls files.  The later verions of Microsoft Excel open the xl files OK, does Excel for Mac not able to do this?

    Unfortunately I don't have Office 2007 in front of me to test
    with. But I'm thinking that as long as Office 2007 still produces
    the same formats as 2003, you could do it this way.
    From RoboHelp 7 and using Office 2007, generate Printed
    ouptut. Open said printed output in Office 2007 and perform a Save
    As. Save the document as a RTF (Rich Text Format) document.
    RTF is more universal. So I'm thinking this may be a possible
    way around it. There is also the possibility that Word 2007 offers
    up an ability when saving a file to save in an older format.

  • Recover a VHD file from a formatted volume

    Apologies if this is not the right forum.
    So I was preparing a new server to host virtual machines. This is a Dell PE r710, Dual quad-core Xeon processors, 48 GB RAM, 2x 72 GB SAS drives. The server has Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 installed. iSCSI volumes hosted in a Dell EqualLogic SAN will host the
    actual virtual machines. We have 5 of these with similar setups, 3 of which are setup in a cluster. We have 2 set aside for additional projects. These will not be clustered as they will be hosting Lync virtual machines. Anyway we have 1 server setup and working
    with 2 VM's. The 2nd server will initially host 2 additional VM's. My goal was to format the iSCSI volume on the 2nd server and prepare it to host VMs. Except I accidentally logged into the 1st server (it's one of those days - I was interrupted as I was typing
    in the server name into Remote Desktop and it auto-populated the first server instead of the 2nd) and begin formatting the volume. Needless to say Lync stopped working and the VMs crashed. I immediately recognized my mistake and stopped
    the format but obviously it was too late.
    I was hoping I could recover the data on that volume. We have a trial of this software called GetDataBack NTFS edition. It can recognize the volume ok and it can scan it and see files. Unfortunately it does not see actual VHD files. Instead what
    happens is that it sees the VHD files as separate volumes/partitions/etc and recovers the data within the VHD files. Not sure if it should do that, waiting on a response from Runtime. Kind of cool in a way if we ever needed to recover data within a VHD file.
    Anyway, does anyone know of software that can recover data from a volume but not scan the contents of the vhd file and include that data in the recovery? By this I mean I want to recover the actual VHD files, not the data within. Perhaps Virtual
    Machine Manager can do something? We do have it installed and manage our VM's with it. It would save us the trouble of re-deploying Lync. Apparently there's a lot of ADSI edits needed to undo the changes Lync did to AD/ Even migrating users back requires some
    ADSI edits. Trying to find those online someplace just in case.
    We did not have backups yet of these 2 VMS as we just recently got them setup and have moved a few users over (some of us from IT). We still had some configuration/tweaking/adjustments to make before migrating the remainder of our OCS users. I know, I know,
    backup backup backup. The SAN we have can even do snapshots of iSCSI volumes but we didn't even think of enabling it yet.
    Regardless in what happens with the VM's, I enabled Windows Server Backup and will immediately setup nightly backups once the VM's are operational again. I will also have our SAN admin enable snapshots, and just for laughs I will also enable snapshots on
    the individual VM's. We're also currently testing out Data Protection Manager. Kind of wish we already had it implemented....sigh...
