Recreate user account in Workgroup Manager, empty mailbox

We have OS X 10.3.8 Server version. Postfix mail server.
We have a user/account with email problems and a huge mailbox. He (user: gordon) had over 16000 emails in his mailbox (/var/spool/imap/user/gordon). All other mail users on this server work fine, including newly created user accounts.
Our solutions was to try and delete all mail from his mailbox via Terminal. This did not seem to decrease the size of his mailbox. Our next idea was to delete this user in Workgroup Manager and then re-created this user. Hoping to created an new mail setup and empty mailbox. This idea failed aswell.
How does one basically purge an old account/user in Workgroup Manager, and then, recreate that same user name and effectively recreate the user with a new account, including a new/empty mailbox?
  Mac OS X (10.3.8)

cyradm is not part of 10.3.x
To use it you would have to install it first. See here:
http://www.afp548.com/article.php?story=20040814204411280&query=cyradm
And then follow the instructions given beforehand.
Having said that, your issue can be resolved differently. You deleted all mail manually in the file system (not a good idea, but what is done is done). So the mail is actually gone. What you are seing is Cyrus' index. Since you deleted manually the index didn't get updated. To get rid of the problem either reconstruct that users mailbox throgh Server Admin - > Mail or alternatively run:
sudo -u cyrus reconstruct -r user/gordon (assuming that's the user's name)

  • Can't log in as a user created in Workgroup Manager

I am a little confused about users created in Workgroup Manager.
I have created an account with all the proper permissions to log in etc. Their home directory is listed as afp://home/Users (home is the name of the server). The directory for the user I am trying to log in as doesn't exist yet.
When I try to log into the server "home" with this newly created user, I get the vibrating window that indicates the log in failed.
I am used to windows and AD where I would create a user in AD and then use something like \\domain\user to log in to the machine as that user. If i wanted to create a local user on that machine, I could do that too and then log in as \\machine\user to get the local user.
Are Workgroup Manager created users like AD users? Can I use them to log into any machine on the network hooked up to the SL server machine? In this case I want to log into the SL Server machine with this user.
    Thanks for any insight
    Greg

There is only one root user, so saying "a root user" doesn't make sense. What you mean is an admin user, and it looks like your account has somehow manage to lose its admin privileges.
Follow the instructions in I lost my admin user and you should get them back.
Note that in this User Tip, 'youruser' is a placeholder. You are supposed to substitute the short name of your account wherever it appears.

  • Can't create computer account in Workgroup Manager

    Hi everybody !.
I am installing a new Xserve with Mac OS X Server 10.5.6 and I am having some trouble with computer accounts in Workgroup Manager.
I have a couple of PCs with Windows XP that I have added to the Windows domain created by Mac OS X Server with no problem, and they do appear in my computer account list, with the name PC_NameX$.
My Xserve also appears in this list with the name ServerName.DomainName$
But my iMacs (with Mac OS X 10.4.11) are not listed. When I try to create their accounts, I write their names and their MAC address but when I push the button "Save", Workgroup Manager says that I can't create this account because there is a computer with that name and that MAC address yet.
I can't find a solution for this problem by myself. Could anybody give some advices to solve it ?.
    Many thanks.

    Hi Mabel,
In my computer list appears my Windows computer names (followed by a "$" symbol, i.e., name$) and my Xserve name followed by domain name and a "$" symbol, i.e, name.domain$. Finally, there is a Guest account I added a few days ago (without "$" symbol).
No iMac is listed here. When I try to add them manually, I write "Name", "Short Name" and "Ethernet ID" fields, and when I push "Save" button, I get this message:
"The name you have chosen conflicts with a name assigned to another computer. You can’t assign the name “Pollux” to two different computers. Remember that names are not case-sensitive when checking for conflicts." (Pollux is the name I gave to one of the iMacs).
If I change this name and use another one, but I don't change "Ethernet ID" and then push "Save", the message is:
"The ethernet address you have chosen conflicts with an ethernet address assigned to another computer. You can’t assign the ethernet address “00:17:f2:d3:38:95” to two different computers."
So, It seems that WGM knows Name and Ethernet ID from this iMac because it does not let me type them again, but I have not typed this information before nor the iMacs are listed in computer list.
This is what I don't understand.
I have have read chapter 6 "Setting Up Computers and Computer Groups", the one that starts on page 105, from top to bottom. I have not found a single clue that helps me solving this problem. Here explains the procedure when everything is working properly.
Finally, another piece from the puzzle. There is an iMac, that always connects to Directory with Airport interface. I have tried to add this iMac, manually. Well, I get the name conflict message, the Ethernet ID conflict message (with its airport id) and... an Ethernet ID message when I type its Ethernet ID. It seems Directory knows this Ethernet ID even, it has never been used to connect to it.
Is there some detail I am missing ???.
    Kind regards.

  • Can't re-enable accounts with workgroup manager

    Morning,
We have had cause to disable approximately 100 student accounts earlier this week, and we are now finding that we can not re-enable them. This is a major problem as it's coming to the end of term and they all need to be able to login!
The server is running 10.4.6 and the accounts were disabled using Workgroup Manager by selecting the account, unticking the 'access account' box and then saving.
I am trying to re-enable the accounts by simply reversing the process, i.e. ticking 'access account' and then clicking save, however every time I try this the following error pops up:
    "Got unexpected error
Error of type eMemoryAllocError (-14901) on line 3318 of /SourceCache/ServerManagerUserGeneral/ServerManagerUserGeneral-193.2.5/UserAdva ncedPluginView.mm"
I have tried this with various of the disabled users on various different machines (including the server itself) and the same error comes up universally. I've had a poke about on Google but I can't find any reference to this happening anywhere else.
My inital thought was that the admin tools were out of date but looking we have version 10.4.4 of Workgroup Manager which is what is available on the apple site; is this the latest version?
I thought the point releases for admin tools ran in parallel with the server versions, i.e. the latest server admin tools would be of version 10.4.6?
    Any help/ideas appreciated...!
    Ian Atkinson

Additionally, I have come up with a fudge:
I have turned on the advanced view in Workgroup Manager so that I can see the LDAP inspector for each user. If I delete the two attributes 'AuthenticationAuthority ;DisabledUser;' and 'dsAttrTypeNative:authAuthor ;DisabledUser;' and then save, I can then go on to tick 'access account' and save with no problem (which does in fact re-enable the account).
I don't know if this sheds any light on the subject, but it's working for now at least...

  • Nested AD User Groups in Workgroup Manager not working in Mavericks

The setup is the traditional Golden Triangle, so Active Directory for users and groups, Open Directory for Managed Preferences. Both Apple clients and server are running 10.9.0
While I can successfully manage the Mac's via OD computer groups, the OD user groups with nested AD groups no longer appear to work. If I nest an AD user it works fine, but not the AD users group.
This is a new AD and new OD, no migrations. This is a setup I've done countless times over the years, but since Mavericks has been introduced, I can no longer make this work.
Any help would be greatly appreaciated.
    Thanks,
    Alex Price

    Hello
I have been having the same problem, when adding an AD Group to an OD group the users in the AD group are not managed, but if i add the user to the OD group it works fine, (with about 5000 active users this is not an option) this has been a problem with 10.9 and has not been fixed with 10.9.1, i assume we need a update to Workgroup manager?
Maverick server is useless at the moment, cant upgrade the clients to Maverick if i cant manage them, are Apple just tring to make my job more difficult than it needs to be, i was happy that they provided Workgroup Manager for Mavericks because Profile Manager is simple not an option, but it would be good if it worked properly, its not a small problem so you would think apple would make it a priority.

  • Computer accounts in Workgroup Manager

Is it just me or is there no way to browse the network for computers and add them as computer accounts in 10.5 server's Workgroup Manager? I can tell you I am not going to manually enter over 500 computers one at a time. Apple needs to stop taking steps backward with 10.5 server and reinstate the 10.4 server functionality here.

This one had me scratching my head yesterday. There used to be a browse function in 10.4.x Workgroup Manager where you could browse the network for machines and then drag them in. I have been looking all over for this function in 10.5 WGM. After I couldn't find it I started reading through the manual to see what it says. All it mentions is adding them by MAC address. Is this feature really gone ? Are they planning to add it back ? As a plan B is there some way to import a list of MAC addresses ?

  • AD accounts and workgroup manager settings

We have several Windows AD accounts that can logon, but are not applying the correct settings that have been created in workgroup manager. Open Directory and Active Directory bindings appear to be fine.

  • TS3276 There are two User accounts on my iMac. The two Users have seperate email accounts.  Both email Mailboxes show up in each Account.  If I Delete Mailbox from in User account, does it delete the Mailbox from the other User account at the same time?

There are 2 Users on my iMac.  Each User has their own email account.  Both account Mailboxes show up in each User's account.  If I delete a Mailbox in one account, does it delete the same Mailbox in the other Account?

If you click the - sign in Mail preferences, it will delete that mail account. If you just delete the Mailbox, that will just delete the Mailbox.
Each user can put their own email account information in Mail when logged into their User Account.
If you don't want the other user's mail account to show up in your mail application, then make sure the other user's messages are available to them when they are logged into their account and delete the other user account from Mail in your User Account. The other user can do the same when logged into their user account. Any messages stored in one locally will have to be transfered to the other's user account if it's not saved in their user login.
In addition, instead of deleting the account at first, highlight the account and open the Advanced Tab and disable the account. That email account will dissappear from Mail. Once you decide that you don't want the account, you can delete it. If you need to get back to it to transfer messages, just re enable it.

  • Blocked user account in Skype Manager

I have a user in my company that is showing a "Blocked Account" when I sign into our Skype Manager. When I click on his username to take me to more information, I get an error message stating: "Service Unavailable. We're having technical problems. We're sorry for the inconvenience. Please try again after a few minutes."
This has been happening for over a week now, and when I submitted an email suport request to Skype, their support (Rodeline C.) sent me here instead of answering my question. Any thoughts on how I can get this user working? Thanks!

  • Users Disappeared from Workgroup Manager

All I see is the admin user. All Users and Groups are gone.
Strange thing is that I can still view the LDAP tree from another machine and see all the users and groups. Command line access to the Kerberos system also shows the users existing there as well. LDAP and login authentication is working just fine. Searches against the Directory also work from AddressBook on client machines on the network...
If I add a new user via WGM, that user will appear as expected. I also see that new user in LDAP and Kerberos.
I cannot create a user in WGM with one of the existing usernames either. I have also tried an Archive and Restore of the Open Directory data. Still only admin showing.
Any ideas? I'd like to get these users back and viewable so they are selectable in setting permissions/access for other services...

Update. From the backup I just made, I can see all of the users in the backup.ldif file. Is there a way I can import them back into Open Directory?
One other strange thing. If I go to the Settings tab in Server Admin, and into Access, I can see some of the users listed as their apple-generateduid value - not as their usernames.
This leads me to believe there was a linking thread that was broken somewhere. Strange. Very strange.

  • Accidently deleted default user account in Netinfo Manager Utility

I don't care about the data in the previous account. But now I cannot log in and I know nothing about Mac OS X. How do I create a new account? The computer has 10.3.9. Also, are the applications I installed still there if I setup a new account? I don't have the OS X disk.

Sometimes the original (or possibly another Apple) keyboard is required for early startup override procedures because necessary software for third party support which loads as part of the main system hasn't loaded yet. In other words, your Logitech devices are not working at that early stage.

  • Problems with User Accounts connecting to the server

I created couple of user accounts but the users can not connect to their accounts from the computer lab. i want to know how properly set the accounts to login to any computer in the lab.

Welcome to the forums. You need to:
    1. Bind your desktop machines to your Open Directory master
    2. Create groups and user accounts in WorkGroup Manager which allow your users to log into those computers
You will find the User Admin documents here useful:

  • Disabling Keyboard Shortcuts for LDAP Accounts -Workgroup Manager...

I work in a school and all our students are on LDAP accounts. Recently some of the kids realized that hitting Ctrl-Opt-CMD-8 inverts the screen display. You wouldn't believe the amount of havoc this has created at school, especially when they do it to a kid’s account that doesn't know how to fix it.
Keyboard and Mouse are NOT one of the items under preferences for either groups or accounts in Workgroup Manager. Does anyone know if there is a way around this, or an alternate way of getting rid of the keyboard shortcuts for Universal Access, for either groups or accounts?
    Thanks
      Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Within the Workgroup Manager pane for Preferences, there is an option to manage Universal access. Within that section, there is a tab for 'Options'. You will want to change that management to 'Always' and leave the box for 'Allow Universal Access Shortcuts' UNchecked. This will, in effect, disable the usage of the shortcuts for a User or a selected Group account.
    Hope this helps out!!

  • How do I change a managed user account to a non-managed account?

I had a Time Machine back up of a user account that was managed by an IT group at the last company I worked for. I am no longer employed by that company and I used Migration Assistant to import my Time Machine backed up user account to a new Mac. Now I have all sorts of issues with permissions (I can't open VLC because I can't run it as root, I can't run Steam, I can't open iTunes). I've already repaired permissions using Disk Utility and I restarted in Recovery mode and did the "resetpassword" command in Terminal and reset Home folder permissions. No luck. Any ideas?

I looked into this a little more carefully.  It's not the Guest account.  It clearly indicates "Managed".
Searching for more information, this is something related to Parental Control, but I can't seem to get this account to take on the characteristics of either an administrator or user role.

  • Management Repository - Custom procedure and email user account

    Hi,
I am new to grid usage. Just I would like to make sure about the following:
    1. Is it possible to create a custom procedure? Is it safe or any issues with that?
    2. If possible, I would like to query the schedule related tables and send email to the network user(one of database repository user). In this procedure, can I send email to any user in the network or owner of the attached databases? or do I need to create or add user account to grid/management repository?
I appreciate your quick help. Thanks.

    Hi
Do you need a procedure to send mail to different users that depend of the target database?
When a alert warning or critical appear you send a mail to diferent user that depend of target?
If the answer is yes, you can create diferent users in your grid control and diferents notification rules for each user and assign to databases target
    example
You have the SYSMAN user that have a rule
Database availability and critical states --> for all targets
    Create two users in grid
    admin_1
    admin_2
    Log to grid with admin_1
Create a notification rule like database availability and critical states
Each the targets specifit to this users
    The same process for admin_2
