Recursive eval in jsp/java ?

hi - i have a simple jsp that uses a bean to go to the database and grab content to be displayed on the webpage. the problem is that the content in the database itself has some java scriplets in it which are not evaluated since the jsp was already been translated. is there a way to do this...we cant remove scripltes from the content..is this possible using taglib ??
thanks,
one4all

Hi,
Yes it is possible using a taglib.It's been a while since I did this, but I think if you extend BodyTagSupport , implement doStartTag() however you like and return EVAL_BODY_INCLUDE (defined somewhere up the BodyTagSupport heirarchy) then the body of the processed tag will be evaluated again.

  • Recursive calls by JSP tag files fail to compile

    We're hitting an issue with recursive calls in JSP tag files. I found one unanswered post in the General forum - [Tag Files used recursivily throws exception|https://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=853300] - and was wondering if anyone else has hit this or knows of any work-arounds/patches or knows how to raise suspected bugs with Oracle (when you don't have an official support relationship for WebLogic)?
    Example tag file - /WEB-INF/tags/recurse/hello.tag:
    <%@ tag body-content="empty" %>
    <%@ attribute name="name" required="true" type="java.lang.String"%>
    <%@ attribute name="depth" required="true" type="java.lang.Number"%>
    <%@ taglib prefix="c" uri="http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core" %>
    <%@ taglib prefix="r" uri="/WEB-INF/tags/recurse/recurse.tld" %>
    <table border="1" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="3">
    <tr>
    <td>
    Hello ${name} [${depth}]
    </td>
    <c:if test="${depth > 1}">
    <td>
    <r:hello name="${name}" depth="${depth-1}"/>
    </td>
    </c:if>
    </tr>
    </table>
    Example tld file - /WEB-INF/tags/recurse/recurse.tld:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
    <taglib xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee"
    xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"

    version="2.1">
    <description>Library with Recursive tag</description>

    <path>/WEB-INF/tags/recurse/hello.tag</path>

    Example jsp file - /recurse/test.jsp:
    <%@ page language="java" pageEncoding="UTF-8" contentType="text/html; charset=utf-8"%>

    <c:set var="depth" value="${5}"/>
    <p>Welcome ${name}, here are ${depth} greetings</p>
    <r:hello name="${name}" depth="${depth}"/>
    </body>
    </html>
    The expected result from this example would be to get nested 5 HTML tables.
    The current behaviour, is the following is shown on screen when loading the test.jsp:
    Compilation of JSP File '/recurse/test.jsp' failed:
    hello.tag:15:6: Current file's JSP version conflicts with current tag "r:hello"'s.
                        <r:hello name="${name}" depth="${depth-1}"/>
    ^-----^
    hello.tag:15:6: Current file's JSP version conflicts with current tag "r:hello"'s.
                        <r:hello name="${name}" depth="${depth-1}"/>
    ^-----^
    I believe the "JSP version conflicts with current tag" message is misleading (you also get the same error referring to the tag file's folder via a tagdir reference from the JSP and defining an 'implicit.tld' which declares version="2.1"). If you take the recursive <r:hello .../> call out of hello.tag the JSP and tag file compile and function fine. I tried the work around mentioned in the forum post mentioned above, taking the recursive call out, deploying, then putting the recursive tag call back in and just updating the tag file doesn't seem to work for me.
    Using "weblogic.appc" you get a few more messages, though the issue is the same - tag file doesn't compile:
    test.jsp:15:6: The tag handler class was not found "jsp_servlet._tags._recurse.__hello_tag".
    <r:hello name="${name}" depth="${depth}"/>
    ^-----^
    test.jsp:15:14: This attribute is not recognized.
    <r:hello name="${name}" depth="${depth}"/>
    ^--^
    test.jsp:15:29: This attribute is not recognized.
    <r:hello name="${name}" depth="${depth}"/>
    ^---^
    hello.tag:15:6: The tag handler class was not found "jsp_servlet._tags._recurse.__hello_tag".
    <r:hello name="${name}" depth="${depth-1}"/>
    ^-----^
    hello.tag:15:6: Current file's JSP version conflicts with current tag "r:hello"'s.
    <r:hello name="${name}" depth="${depth-1}"/>
    ^-----^
    Happy to send this example as an ear/war for anyone that's interested.
    At this stage, WebLogic seems to be the only servlet container with this limitation.
    This has been tested with WebLogic 10.3.3.0 and 12.1.1.0.
    The context for this is that the issue is present in a (larger) enterprise application. The above simple example with recursive tags is what we have isolated as the problem.
    Although I/we may not have a support relationship for WebLogic, our clients will, so if the solution is apply an already existing patch that solution would be acceptable.

    Somethings definitely wrong with your gcc installation.
    Which gcc are you using. What output do you get from "which gcc".
    Solaris 10 ships with a gcc in /usr/sfw/bin.
    If your using a 3rd party gcc try changing your path to put /usr/sfw/bin before whereever the 3rd party gcc lives. Or just uninstall it.

    Hi Michael Vstling,
    Did you try the java classes library (SDOAPI) that can be downloaded from OTN?
    It may provide you with a better alternative when manipulating geometries in the Java space. There is an adapter in SDOAPI which can convert a JDBC STRUCT object into Java Geometry object defined in SDOAPI, and vice versa.
    There are at least two ways in mixing PL/SQL and Java. The first one, as you mentioned, is to define your custom function in terms of PL/SQL and call it from within your Java program. With SDOAPI, you have the second option, which is to define your own functions in Java using SDOAPI and deploy them as Java stored procedures in db. You can then call them from within your PL/SQL code. In either way performance depends on a lot of things and generally it requires a "try and improve" approach.
    About JPublisher and sdo_ordinate_array it may not be a spatial related problem. Did you try search the Java-related forums first?

  • How to create two level dynamic list using JSP , Java Script and Oracle

    I am new in JSP. And i am facing problem in creating two level dynamic list using JSP ,Java Script where the listdata will come from Oracle 10g express edition database. Is there any easy way in JSP that is available on in ASP.NET.
    Plz response with details.

    1) Learn JDBC API [http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/jdbc/index.html].
    2) Create DAO class which contains JDBC code and do all SQL queries and returns or takes ID's or DTO objects.
    3) Learn Servlet API [http://java.sun.com/javaee/5/docs/tutorial/doc/].
    4) Create Servlet class which calls the DAO class, gets the list of DTO's as result, puts it as a request attribute and forwards the request to a JSP page.
    5) Learn JSP and JSTL [http://java.sun.com/javaee/5/docs/tutorial/doc/]. Also learn HTML if you even don't know it.
    6) Create JSP page which uses the JSTL c:forEach tag to access the list of DTO's and iterate over it and prints a HTML list out.
    You don't need Javascript for this.

    The site has been shut down due to 'class-loader' not found. I was told it
    was causing problems for other java users on the server.
    I realise this is limited information but any insight would be welcome.
    This is our first JSP / java bean web app.
    Also if anyone could tell me briefly the purpose of an xml document in a JSP/Java bean webapplication I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi there,
    Thanks for the reply.
    Our application allows people to purchase wedding pictures online. It ran locally on resin we then had to change all the relative file paths in order to deploy it on lunarpages.
    Lunarpages use resin also.
    We had the application tested and working on Lunarpages for the last week .This morning they sent us a message saying they had shut our JSP pages down as our application was causing problems for other java users. errant code unknown element ' class-loader' .
    Not too much help from lunarpages...

  • JSP/Java vs ASP/VB Pay Difference

    Hi all I have been looking at the pay for jsp/java vs asp/vb developers. I have found that for years it has been the same .
    For a person with say 3-4 years of either the salary tops tends to be comparable.
    Can anyone confirm this ?
    Does anyone know why ?
    I have found it strange because it appears to me that Java is a much more challenging language.
    stephen

    Because the value delivered by the developers you mention and their scarcity is almost identical, from a business perspective. Not only that but learning enough Java basics to write JSPs is not as nearly as challenging KNOWING Java enough to write a full-fledged, industry strength application. Good luck!

  • Recursion in a jsp page

    I can't figure out where to put a method in a jsp page so that I can call it recursively. Tomcat keeps returning "Not expecting variable declaration here and pointing to the "private void methodname(..){" line.
    I know it probably something basic but the generated java looks similar to the beans format.

    I don't think you can declare a new method within a JSP page...This is because all of the Java (not javascript) code within a JSP is basically the contents of the service() method within a Servlet so what you're trying to do is declaring a new method within another method.

    Couldnt U just use a while loop something like the following...

    <%
    while(tree.next()){
    %>
    <tr>
    <td><%=tree.getString("output") %></td>
    <td><%=tree.getString("output2") %></td>

    or your version of that...
    Assuming U have Ur tree.next returning a false when it gets to the end.

  • How to define recursive functions in JSP

    Hi,
    If anybody knows, how to to define recursive functions pls help. I am using an XML file for the creation of a tree menu. In order to display the menu, i have to use recursive functions...Also out.println throwing error in the function..
    Thanks,
    Philips

    I do not have my Java book at work with me today so you'll have to bear with me. The following routine assumes that you can get some sort of branch object from your tree menu object (also assuming you have something like this). Furthermore, it assumes that the branch object can return some sort of collection of all leaves and branches on a particular branch through a made-up getLeaves() method call.
    <%!
              public void displayLeaves(Branch branch)
                   Iterator branches = null;
                   branches = branch.getLeaves().getIterator();
                   Object leaf = null;
                   while( branches.hasMoreItems() )
                        leaf = branches.nextItem();
                        if(leaf instanceof branch)
                             displayLeaves((Branch) leaf);
                        else
                             out.println( ((Leaf)leaf).getValue() );
    %>This code fragment should be just the logic you need to expand a tree as JSP output. To invoke this method all you have to do is pass the root branch element to the method from within your JSP. Please let me know if you need additional info.

    U're getting this error because there is no field called 'password' in ur database, the field in ur database is named 'cpassword' and not 'password'. So change the statement rs.getString("password"); to rs.getString("cpassword");

    Hi, I too have a problem with an SQL exception, the message is Column not found.
    I'm using the sun jdbc odbc driver with access.
    the first few lines of the stack trace are

    sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(NativeMethodAccessorImpl.java:39)
    I am of course sure that the column does infact exist. I can insert into the column no problems. the sql looks like this:
    SELECT * FROM Members WHERE uName ='Stewart' AND encPwd='F2C3h1Y'
    Can any one tell me if there is a common cause to this problem?
