JSP/Java vs ASP/VB Pay Difference

Hi all I have been looking at the pay for jsp/java vs asp/vb developers. I have found that for years it has been the same .
For a person with say 3-4 years of either the salary tops tends to be comparable.
Can anyone confirm this ?
Does anyone know why ?
I have found it strange because it appears to me that Java is a much more challenging language.
stephen

Because the value delivered by the developers you mention and their scarcity is almost identical, from a business perspective. Not only that but learning enough Java basics to write JSPs is not as nearly as challenging KNOWING Java enough to write a full-fledged, industry strength application. Good luck!

  • How to create two level dynamic list using JSP , Java Script and Oracle

I am new in JSP. And i am facing problem in creating two level dynamic list using JSP ,Java Script where the listdata will come from Oracle 10g express edition database. Is there any easy way in JSP that is available on in ASP.NET.
    Plz response with details.

    1) Learn JDBC API [http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/jdbc/index.html].
    2) Create DAO class which contains JDBC code and do all SQL queries and returns or takes ID's or DTO objects.
    3) Learn Servlet API [http://java.sun.com/javaee/5/docs/tutorial/doc/].
    4) Create Servlet class which calls the DAO class, gets the list of DTO's as result, puts it as a request attribute and forwards the request to a JSP page.
    5) Learn JSP and JSTL [http://java.sun.com/javaee/5/docs/tutorial/doc/]. Also learn HTML if you even don't know it.
    6) Create JSP page which uses the JSTL c:forEach tag to access the list of DTO's and iterate over it and prints a HTML list out.
You don't need Javascript for this.

  • Comparing JSP ,PHP AND ASP

    Hello
Can you send me few reasons why is JSP better then ASP nad PHP.
    Thanks Jelena

I don't know much of PHP but I can defintely compare it to ASP. ASP is a Windows proprietary technology that runs primarily on Windows machines. It uses either JavaScript or VBScript as the underlying language and has some limitations. For one there is the lack of multithreading which makes tasks that require asyncronous processing rather difficult. VBScript is a subset of Visual Basic which means there are a lot of things (objects and such) left out. You can create objects encompassing anymissing functionality out of COM using a CreateObject statement but if the objects were created using Visual Basic then there are threading issues that severly limit the amount of concurrent access. There is no direct support for polymorphism and inhereitance in VB which means Visual Basic is not a true object oriented language.
JSP overcomes all of these limitations by using Java as the underlying programming language. Java has language level support for threading that eases the burden of concurrent access and makes asynchronous tasks a snap. It is based on the J2EE standard rather than a proprietary technology. There are various implementations of this standard that allow you to plug JSP apps into virtually any webserver running on almost any hardware. Java includes direct support for polymorphism and inheritance making it a true object oriented language.
ASP.Net/VB.Net overcomes all of the mistakes made with ASP/VB by mimicking the Java/JSP platform. This shows that the ideas implemented in Java are rather strong ideas and have longevity. If you are writing your 1st web app and have limited knowledge of how the net works then maybe VB/ASP is a better starting point for it's simplicity and integrated environment. However, when you are ready to build scalable enterprise level web apps then JSP is definitely the better choice. Take it from someone experieinced in both.

    Hi Michael Vstling,
Did you try the java classes library (SDOAPI) that can be downloaded from OTN?
It may provide you with a better alternative when manipulating geometries in the Java space. There is an adapter in SDOAPI which can convert a JDBC STRUCT object into Java Geometry object defined in SDOAPI, and vice versa.
There are at least two ways in mixing PL/SQL and Java. The first one, as you mentioned, is to define your custom function in terms of PL/SQL and call it from within your Java program. With SDOAPI, you have the second option, which is to define your own functions in Java using SDOAPI and deploy them as Java stored procedures in db. You can then call them from within your PL/SQL code. In either way performance depends on a lot of things and generally it requires a "try and improve" approach.
About JPublisher and sdo_ordinate_array it may not be a spatial related problem. Did you try search the Java-related forums first?

  • Do all JSP/Java bean webapps need an xml file?

    Hi all,
I have a jsp/ java bean webb application. This is being run on Resin at
    Lunarpages.
The site has been shut down due to 'class-loader' not found. I was told it
was causing problems for other java users on the server.
I realise this is limited information but any insight would be welcome.
This is our first JSP / java bean web app.
Also if anyone could tell me briefly the purpose of an xml document in a JSP/Java bean webapplication I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks in advance
    Regards

    Hi there,
    Thanks for the reply.
Our application allows people to purchase wedding pictures online. It ran locally on resin we then had to change all the relative file paths in order to deploy it on lunarpages.
    Lunarpages use resin also.
We had the application tested and working on Lunarpages for the last week .This morning they sent us a message saying they had shut our JSP pages down as our application was causing problems for other java users. errant code unknown element ' class-loader' .
Not too much help from lunarpages...

  • Help on Java to ASP page

I have written a zip function that it's used on an ASP page. The java class has a main static function which is as follows:
public static void main(String[] args) inside the main function I have calls to other functions which will perform the zipping of a directory. Moreover, since main is STATIC, i am forced to declared all of the other functions STATIC as well.
How do I make reference to the main functions from ASP?
    Currently I have:
Set objZip = GetObject("java:ZipDirectory") I've tried objZip.main "pathToDIrectory" , which does not work. I've also tried to move all of the functionalities of main into a new function (Start) , once I call start
objZip.Start "pathToDIrectory"  I keep getting an error, Could it be that since the zip functions written recursively and the static declarations could cause the browser to give out errors.
    Please HELP .....
    Thanks
    Jorge

You can execute a command line program from an ASP but you have to write a VB COM object to do it. At least that is the only way I was able to do it.
I think that you may have to make your Java object a COM object in order to access it from ASP. I have heard that this can be done and you may even be doing it. But I have never seen it done nor done it myself.
However, this post begs me to ask the question. Why are you using ASP and not JSP? I have not done a lot of JSP but I would think that this would be very very easy to do that way. If you have to use ASP, then why Java, why not use VB? VB and ASP are very easy to work together as are Java and JSP. If you have no reason to mix them, then don't.

  • Is JSP faster than ASP?

I want to know whether JSP Runtime Environment is faster than ASP. It will be very helpfull if i get any benchmark reports. AuRevoir!

id suggest you do it yourself, no-one is going to write up this sort of stuff without you paying for it
in any case i'd dare to suggest that asp would be faster than jsp ( running on different servers no doubt; but given both windows os's ) because asp is basically vbscript which i imagine would be faster for the server to compile given a win box than jsp -> jvm -> server -> client ( if thats even how it works. ).

    U're getting this error because there is no field called 'password' in ur database, the field in ur database is named 'cpassword' and not 'password'. So change the statement rs.getString("password"); to rs.getString("cpassword");

Hi, I too have a problem with an SQL exception, the message is Column not found.
I'm using the sun jdbc odbc driver with access.
the first few lines of the stack trace are

    sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(NativeMethodAccessorImpl.java:39)
I am of course sure that the column does infact exist. I can insert into the column no problems. the sql looks like this:
SELECT * FROM Members WHERE uName ='Stewart' AND encPwd='F2C3h1Y'
Can any one tell me if there is a common cause to this problem?
