Redirector prevents computer from logging onto network

I am using Desktop Manager v4.7. Ever since I upgraded from v4.6 to v4.7, the redirector tries to launch and connect to the network before my desktop computer is able to do so. To make matters worse, the computer wont log onto the network because the redirector is trying to log onto it.
Finally, the redirector crashes at which point the computer is able to log onto the network. However, by then, the redirector wont try to log onto the network again, and my emails are not forwarded to my blackberry.
Thus, is it possible to have the redirector wait until the computer has logged onto the network before it tries launch itself?
Your help is greatly appreciated.

OK, MnJim,
Then in that case, if your disabling the SSID, you'll need to type in the SSID manually each time since I don't believe that Airport on the Mac can find an SSID to automatically connect to, if the SSID is not being broadcast.
So it almost seems like you're between a rock and a hard place. Don't want to type the SSID in order to 'find' it? Then don't disable it.
Also:
With the SSID broadcast disabled, if there is another access point within range that is broadcasting, systems will automatically switch to the access point that's broadcasting its SSID. This happens even if you didn't list that broadcasting system as a preferred network and you've listed the access point that's not broadcasting as preferred.
and:

and:
http://forums.wi-fiplanet.com/archive/index.php/t-1293.html
It seems as if it's "to-may-to", "to-mah-to". A serious hacker will find a way to find your SSID, broadcasted or not. Disabling it simply makes your life more of a hassle.
...for what it's worth...
Anyone else find other factoids to support 'disabling', or a better way to keep the connection 'automatic' without an publicized SSID ?

  • Mail is preventing me from logging out - Help!

    Hello,
Mail is preventing me from logging out.  I freqently have to force quit, any ideas on what is wrong and how to fix?

If you're sharing the computer with your husband and you have separate accounts, you should open the Users & Groups preference pane, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then click Login Options and check the box marked Show fast user switching menu... That will relieve the need for either of you to log out whenever the other wants to use the computer. Just select your user name from the menu next to the Spotlight (magnifying glass) icon on the right side of the menu bar.
As for the Mail problem, try the procedure below first.
    Back up all data.
    1. Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/Bundles
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu. A folder may open, or you may get an error message that the item can't be found. Either result is normal. If the folder does open and has contents, move the contents to the Desktop. Relaunch Mail and test. If there's no change, put the contents of the folder back and quit Mail again.
    2. Repeat with this line:
    /Library/Mail/Bundles
This time you may be prompted for your login password when you remove the items. Make sure they're removed from the folder and not just copied to the Desktop. If necessary, copy them first and then move the originals to the Trash.

  • Airplay from itunes to zepplin air will disconnect my computer from my wireless network

    Hi there,
Relatively new subject matter, so haven't been able to find much online...
I recently purchased a Zeppelin Air - for those who don't know its an ipod speaker system with airplay built in.  I'm running a Windows Vista x64 machine with the latest version of iTunes.
When I open up iTunes and go to play a song, everything works fine for about 30 seconds and then the audio stops and my computer disconnects from my network.  My network icon in the system tray shows disconnected and of course a new browser window won't open my home page.
I then tried using a program called Airfoil to stream Spotify to my Zepplin speakers and it works fine.  Go back to itunes to test out (streaming from itunes now, and not the Airfoil program) and it makes it past a minute, but then after a few minutes it starts getting choppy.  I press stop and start another song... a whole song finishes.  Next song about a minute in it disconnects my computer from my home network again.
Next I open up Airfoil and have it hijack itunes rather than using the airplay feature in itunes. I make it a few minutes into one song, decide to skip to another, no problem.  No disconnects.
Back to itunes, no airfoil this time, back to using the airplay feature from itunes.  25 seconds into a song, it gets really choppy, drops audio.  I press stop and try another song... really choppy can't seem to keep a solid connection.  I try a few songs, one makes it through, then I go back to another and my computer loses connection to my network again.
So point being is it appears to be an iTunes issue and not a Zeppelin issue.  In fact this is my second Zeppelin, I returned the first one because it was having the same problems.
The only functional difference I can see is that iTunes seems to be more responsive in the congrols for pause/play/volume where as Airfoil has a slight delay.  I feel that maybe iTunes is pushing too much data out for my wireless adapater to handle?
Also streaming Pandora from an ipad works no problem...
I'm going to be trying a new adapter soon, but curious to see if anyone has any insights.
    Thanks,
    Travis

I've narrowed down the problem to a combination of my Windows Vista 64 machine and streaming directly from iTunes.
I tested my laptop with XP and had no problems streaming from iTunes.
I then connected my Vista machine directly to the router and when streaming directly from iTunes I had all sorts of skips and pauses, but when streaming from Airplay no problem.
I attached an image of my network stats from the same song via iTunes and Airplay.  The spikes in the network traffic seem to be the problem when streaming from iTunes...

  • Username automatically converts to lowercase, preventing me from logging in.

When I enter my username to login, Firefox automatically changes it to all lower case, so instead of FLastname, it becomes flastname. This prevents me from logging in, since the username is case sensitive. This did not happen until I upgraded to 3.6.11 from, I assume, 3.6.10. For reference I'm using Os X 10.4.11

  • Website/software that prevens you from logging onto the Internet

Recently I read about a website or software that allows you to disengage from the Internet for a period of time.
Do you know the URL for this site or product?
    Thank you.

Your question says that you want to prevent logging onto the internet...that is very easy to do, simply unplug the cable to your modem. Or turn the AirPort card off if you are using wireless.
If you are looking for software for another purpose, such as parental controls, that is a different topic and there are various ways of preventing unfettered access to the internet.

  • Please Help me control my own computer from different internet network

    Hello everyone,
I have a Powerbook G4 and a Macbook Pro and I have the Powerbook G4 constantly connected to the internet via ethernet cord. I am moving away to college next week and I am taking my Macbook Pro along with me. Both machines have Apple Remote Desktop 3.1 on them, and I was wondering if there was any way I could manange my powerbook (on my home network) from my school network with my Macbook Pro. Thanks!!!

    Thanks a million!
I actually have another question. My uncle has a Powerbook G4 running on 10.3.9 with ARD 3.1 installed. He frequently needs support, and I love showing him how to do things so he can see them on his computer while I am instructing him simultaneously onthe phone. My Powerbook G4 is running on 10.4.9 with ARD 3.1 as well. I've updated the client software on his computer remotely (through ARD), but I cannot control or observe his computer. I can do everything else (get reports, sleep, wake, restart, log off user, update client software, lock/unlock screen, etc). I just cannot observe or control his machine. The appropriate preferences are checked in the Sharing prefpane as well. Is there anything I am missing? What can I do to connect/observe to his machine? Thanks!!!

  • After printing 'hpdot4d' process prevents computer from sleeping

    Hi,
I noticed that after printing a document that the process named 'hpdot4d' continually writes something as seen in fs_usage preventing the computer from going to sleep. The computer sleeps fine before printing and won't sleep after printing. If I kill the process the computer will sleep again on it's own. I am using an HP Photosmart 8250 with the Mac Pro.
This is what shows up continuously in fs_usage after printing a document.
    21:01:45.042 select S=0 0.100020 W hpdot4d
    21:01:45.116 write F=2 B=0x65 0.000009 hpdot4d

    21:01:45.116 write F=2 B=0x65 0.000002 hpdot4d
Anyone else have this problem? Where can I make Apple aware of this if this is a bug that can be fixed? As far as I remember this wasn't a problem in Tiger.
    Thanks.

For what it's worth, I've had that hpdot4d process showing up ever since I set up my HP officejet 5610 on my Mac, and I'm still running 10.4. I'm pretty sure this is an HP problem, not an Apple problem...

  • How to prevent computer from sleeping when downloading Lion from the recovery partition?

    Hello,
I just got a new MacBook Pro that came with Lion. I'm reinstalling from the recovery partition and I'm on the downloading additional components stage. It has 3 hours to go and the computer keeps going to sleep. How can I prevent this? I don't want to have to babysit the computer for 3 more hours.
    Thanks.

Looking for an answer to this question now.  Did you find one?  I'm about an hour into a 6+ hour reinstall of Mountain Lion from the Recovery partition on my MacBook Pro.  So I can't change the sleep corners or caffenate it or do much of anything but wait.   I want to go to bed and let it install overnight, but I assume it will go to sleep, and that will kill the download.  It there any way to prevent it from sleeping now?
Even trying to think of something I can put on the trackpad to trick it into thinking I'm touching it.
Maybe ill put it under my dog, and her movements will keep it awake?  Thinking outside the box here.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

  • Restore disk OS X Mountain Lion: Prevent computer from sleeping

Please help, I need to create a backup using the disk utility on my restore disk.  However, the computer keeps going to sleep and corrupting the backup. How do I prevent my computer from sleeping while the imac is creating the backup?
Processor  3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
I can not add anymore physical ram
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS 512 MB
    Software  OS X 10.8.3 (12D78)

I would recommend using a proper tool for backing up, if you want to create a bootable clone use either SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner. Either that (or even better use a clone and) or use Time Machine.

  • Prevent SPAM from Leaving the network. (ISP)

    Hi,
I am working for an ISP, and we are having a few issues, im not sure how to fix.
    My Scenario:
We are an ISP with 4 uplink providers and BGP sessions to 3 of them. We get full tables from 2 of them and partial tables from 1 of them.
Our business is the rental of servers, and we have about 500 servers at the present moment.
Every single server is on its own vlan with something like a /27.
When i get a customer asking for more than a /27, or when they ask the many different c-class subnets, i KNOW they way to use the server as a mail server.
I have created an ACL that looks like the following:
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    EDGE01.PRIVATELAYER.CH#show access-lists SPAM

To my knowledge, this ACL should be catching ALL email ports, and dropping those packets.
I then get an email from Spamhaus, telling me that this server is sending email (SPAM)
When i asked them, they said that the customer might be using GRE tunnels to the server or asymmetric routing.
Im not familiar with asymmetric routing, but after doing some research, i think that GRE tunnels are normally configured ion port 1723, which is blocked as well.
Can anyone point me to the best way to prevent email from leaving an Interface Vlan (SVI)
I am working on a 65095 Series Switch.
If i should add something to the EDGE ACL, or something else, please advise.
    Best Regards,
    Ezequiel Pineda

    Hi,
We have had this issue with very few people.
It looks like they are part of the Rosko Spam operation, which is a big deal, and being spammers with a LOT of spamming experience, they somehow have found a way to avoid ACL's.
At the moment yes, this is the only server that was causing the issue, but i have killed the account already, and shut the vlan.
I did however, create another ACL with the following statement, to try seeing exactly what was going on but couldnt see much to be honest
    # 1 permit tcp any any log-input
    # 2 permit udp any any log-input
I tried this with the log and log-input options, but i dont see Session information, Only TCP-IP source and destination traffic.
Can you elaborate more on that span session you mentioned?
    Thanks again,
    Ezequiel Pineda

  • HT202663 How do you prevent the computer from dropping the network every time it goes to sleep?

I have a problem with the network being kicked off when any Apple device is stopped and then restarted--even if it is just in sleep mode for a few minutes. My MacBook Pro and iPad do this all the time. My husband has the same problem with his iMac. We have checked the network and the internet service. We have no idea how to fix this. It did not do this until recently, so we think it must have something to do with an update to the software, but it drives us nuts! If anyone has information to fix this, we would really appreciate it!
    Thanks!

    Try the basics first:
Change your router channel number.  Most times this works & is all you have to do.
Disconnect & reconnect your modem.  unplug it for about 10 seconds.  Plug it back in.  Do the same for Apple’s routers.  Wait for everything to reboot.
    System Preferences>Network
    Click the Assist Me button.
In the next window that pops up, click the Diagnostic button & do the necessary.

  • I'd sure like to know what the problem is with HP preventing me from logging-in to Passport/Forums

This is a problem I've been chasing, looking for a solution, since I registered my computer in January 2013. In spite of registering under about 5-6 different user IDs and passwords, I'm never able to get logged-in. I have disabled all security and autofill options, deleted all cookies, lowered my security settings to minimum, and changed internet settings. I've even used the Forgot Password link and answered all questions but I'm always sent back to the log-in page and it either recycles back to the log-in page or tells me the user id or password is incorrect. Over a month ago, CalvinP said the issue had been escalated. To where? I've not had any attempts to contact me or anything. I'm really sorry I decided to stay in the HP family. Got to be the lousiest support going. Why doesn't Ms Whitman do something about the obvious indifference to the people that has made HP what it is? Does anyone, not associated with HP, have any ideas? Believe me, I will not purchase another HP product.
    This question was solved.

  • Having problem with svchost.exe/ntdll.dll errors causing GPSVC (Group Policy Client) to crash preventing users from logging into the server.

Recently (within the past 2 weeks) I have noticed a few of our servers will have problems with the svchost.exe application causing the GPSVC (Group Policy Client) to crash. The only fix at that point is to reboot the server since the GPSVC service is tied
to svchost.exe and therefore is protected from being manually restarted.

I've searched and cannot seem to find any information as to what may be causing this, or even really where to start. Would someone be able to help me identify what might be causing this event, specific with the Exception code: 0xc0000024, which causes
the Group Policy Client service to stop?

You still out there looking at things? If so I have an update. The issue hasn't stopped, even though it did seemingly die down for awhile, however, it is now back with a vengeance.
I am able to force it to happen by killing the svchost process that is hosting GPSVC. If I run gpupdate /force, then logout/login it does get GPSVC running again. Furthermore, if I simply start svchost again via the Task Manager GPSVC starts running again.
When I access the server remotely with KVM it acts just like it does as if I'm logging into it via Citrix/RDP which for Admin IDs gives an error saying "Failed to connect to a windows service. Windows could not connect to the Group Policy Client service...",
however, normal user accounts just get a message when logging into the server "The Group Policy Client Service Failed the Logon. Access is denied."
I haven't opened a case with Microsoft yet, but we about ready to because of the increase in these errors.
If you have any further suggestions that would be great, otherwise I'll provide an update once I get word back from Microsoft.
**EDIT -- apparently I mistook the the server's SCM's actions as my own. I was able to successfully crash the GPSVC service by killing the hosting svchost process, however, after I crashed it and let it sit crashed for awhile when I attempted
to restart either by starting a svchost task, or running gpupdate /force it failed. Either that, or there is a timing issue where if we don't restart the svchost process, or run gpupdate /force quickly enough it won't be able to recover without a reboot.
