Redolog files and datafiles in same partition

Hi,
We have Oracle Engine, Oracle Database files and Redo log files in same partition ( /oradata ) which is the mirrored partition ( Internal disk)
we found that its not good idea to put Oracle Engine, Database files and Redo Log files in same partition...
we want to move database files and redo logfiles to SAN..
Is it better to create 2 SAN Paritions...1 Partition is for Database files and 2nd partition is for redo log files..
SAN speed is 2 Gbps....
or is it better to create 4 Partitions...1 partition is for database files and other 3 partitions are for each red log file of each group...
please sched some light on this

Original files and catalog on same external hard drive?

I am about to install Lightroom 3. I have read alot about creating catalogs. In order to get ready for the installation I am organizing all my photos in folders by year and putting them on ONE external hard drive. This requires a lot of effort to copy them from many different locations: a second external hard drive and from the desktop of my computer hard drive. I am on a Mac running Snow Leopard. Is it a good idea or doesn't it matter or is is wrong to have all my photos and the one catalog I will create on the same hard drive. What I'm asking is: should the catalog AND the original files be on the same hard drive or doesn't it matter. Thanks.

Completely unnecessary, but if it makes you happy, go ahead.
If your photos come from a digital camera (and not a scanner), then Lightroom will give you the ability to find photos by years the instant your photos are imported into Lightroom. You don't have to do the work to put the photos into year folders or other year structures.

Doesn't matter. Catalog can be on any connected hard drive, photos can be on the same drive or different drives (plural), connected or disconnected.
Advice: don't organize via folders. I think this is a sub-optimal use of your time. Folders should be used as storage locations, and are not organizational tools any more (they were organizational tools before you had Lightroom). Set up your folders however your want to meet your storage needs (so if you really want all your photos on one drive — a good idea in many but not all cases — then do that to meet your storage needs) but don't use folders any more to achieve organization/searchability/"easy to find". Use keywords and metadata inside of Lightroom to achieve organization/searchability/"easy to find".

When I open iTunes on my new computer using the .itl file, and using the same external drive holding the songs, all of the songs I added to iTunes up to a certain date have broken links, while none of the songs have broken links on the old computer.

I want to open the iTunes library on my new laptop with all the playlists and stuff I built on the old computer. I have all my music on an external drive. I have copied the .itl file from the old computer and opened it on the laptop, and it has all the playlists, but all of the songs that were added to iTunes up to a certain date have broken links. What am I doing wrong?

Moving library files around while leaving the data in the same place usually presents no problems. Moving the data around independently from the library usually breaks things. With Windows machines all you should need to do is make sure that the same drive letter is being used on the new system as with the old. If that is not possible you need to get your library into a portable layout before moving it between systems.
Typical layout of iTunes folders:
When the media folder is inside the main iTunes folder as shown above then the library is portable. Typically with a split library the iTunes Music or iTunes Media folder (everything inside the red outline) is moved to a different drive by choosing a new locaton for it and then consolidating.
To make the library portable again you need to copy the library files and album artwork folder into the parent folder of the media folder so that the nested relationship is recreated. (BTW If your media isn't already inside your designated media folder then you will also need to consolidate the files that are outside of it, before you copy the library files.) You can then use the hold-down-shift-when-starting-iTunes method to open the library file in that parent folder. Once the library has been opened, tested and closed you are most of the way there.
The iTunes window inherits its title from the folder holding the library files so, unless you created a folder called iTunes to hold the media folder, iTunes may now have an unexpected title when you run it. The parent folder can be renamed as iTunes, and the library opened again. Alternatively, if the parent folder is at the root of the drive, or has other data which you wish to leave in place, you can create a new top level folder called iTunes and move the library files, album artwork and media folders into it before opening and testing the library again.
If the library doesn't work after any step simply reverse it by undoing a move or rename or opening the previous set iTunes Library.itl file.
If all has gone well then the library is now portable. Once you've migrated the data to a new system you can copy the library files back to their usual internal location if you find that having them on the external drive affects performance...

Grab data from files and plot on same graph

I have written some code where I ask the user how many files he or she wants to open. These files contain data in 2D format and i want to output them on the same plot. I have tried bundling them into clusters and outputting them but it hasnt worked. Can someone look at the code and suggest some way around this. Thanks

Well, If you need to enter, say, 10 files in the path array, and only plot the first, say, 5 of them, then what you are doing is sensible.
But be aware that if you wire the array directly through the FOR loop, it will execute one loop for each file, and you don't have to use an INDEX operation, or the property node, or ask the user how many files he just entered.

The file you attached was identical to the first file - I nsee no evidence that you changed anything.

Store to file and backup at same time

Hello!
We have a very well working measurement software written in LabView. However we would like to backup the data files regularly. We want to be able to do this even during measurement and while the software is writing to the files. Now when we try to do so, we occasionally face "Error 5 occurred at Open/Create/Replace File" (in "Write To Spreadsheet File") because another software (backup, windows stuff, else...) accesses the files also. Now from my point of view this kind of concurring file access should not be a problem since LV is the only software writing to the files. There are 3 possible solutions I can think of:
delay the write (not feasible since you don't know how long to delay, e.g. how long the other software stays open)
queue the data and write it on next try (e.g. https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-7212 - but again; how long to queue?)
the proper thing is; copy the file to a temporary one, edit the temporary, delete the original and move the temp. in this place
the last one should be the proper solution and also work on different OS since the copy/moving stuff should be atomic operations and thus safe in this context. However I implemented the solution and still have exactly the same problem but now in "Move File"... I am starting to doubt if it is possible to solve this issue at all and thus desparatly need help here! As I can see there is not lock or mutex on the file and no need for LV to raise an error (I think it is done as warning for future possible conflicts)... I assume it is some hidden/strange badly documented Windows API "feature" LV is using to detect those other accesses and it results in a behaviour I cannot change or fix - so what to do here...?

I Think you must have missunderstood me; the problem is you cannot open and write to a file while another external program has it opened too with exclusive access. Consider following code:
If you open the file during the "Wait" (it is closed then because "Write to Spreadsheet" does open, write, close) e.g. with MS Word wich does an exclusive open (allowing exclusive access only) then during the next loop your program will crash with error 5.
The solution I mentioned is to open it first in LV an keep it open all the time:
which prevent e.g. MS Word to open it exclusively but read-only!
What you mentioned is regarding a backup - I considered this double write long before, but it is no good solution, beacuse e.g. the other drive might be a network drive and I don not want to handle absent drives - that's something the external backup tool should do.

use the StructXML2Plain or XML2Plain from the standard MessageTransformBean
Add the module to you Mail adapter before the mail adapters standard module itself

My iTunes is creating duplicates of playlists and hanging up. running latest version of lion, and iTunes using match and iCloud. please help. I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes. deleted all library files and is doing same thing.

I am runing lion and latest version of itunes. I have match on, home sharing on and using icloud. my itunes started hanging up and required me to force quit. then upon restart of itunes and restart of computer itunes would take upwards of 15 minutes to open and was using >90% of CPU and would be lagging in response if responding at all one of the playlists I had created on my ipad had over a hundred copies of the same playlist. after repeated restarts I uninstaled itunes and reinstalled. this didnt rectify the problem. I assumed library file had somehow become corrupt so I deleted library files, reimported all my music and synced with genius and match. and let the computer go over night. when I woke in morning all my music was back but I had all the extra playlists again and itunes is hogging all the cpu and was minimally responsive and hanging up after each click.
I thought this might be a virus or something but installed ESET cypersecurity did a complet scan with no threats found. I am at a total loss and do not know where to go from here. I hope one of you can assist. Thanks!

I had this exact issue. Spent over an hour on the phone with apple support, they couldn't resolve. Here is what I ended up doing, that worked.
1. Turned iTunes match off on all my iOS devices
2. Deleted the offending playlists from the iOS device they originated on
3. Started iTunes, let it run (literally) for an hour before it became responsive. First thing I did, before clicking anywere else was disable iTunes match. If I clicked anywhere, it would clock for another hour.
4. Let iTunes run overnight, by morning it had cleaned out the repeating play lists. This got my Mac/iTunes back to an operable state.
5. Restore iPhones from backup in iTunes.
What was causing my issue was a single playlist that was created on an iPhone, then suddenly showed up with several thousand duplicates on my other iPhone. The culprit playlist did not, for some reason, duplicate itself on my two iPads. Apple support seemed to think it was because the problem iPhone tried to sync the playlist to iCloud over and over again unsuccessfully, then it finally went through and populated the thousands of blank/failed playlists which then tried to propigate to iTunes and my other iOS devices. Seems like a reasonable theory.
I have not yet re-enabled iTunes match. So, no idea what will happen if I decide to go back down that rabbit hole.

Way to close/reopen file and keep the same desktop position

When closing a Text Edit document, I would like to have it reopen in the exact same position on the desktop as when I closed it. Is there any way to make this happen? It seems to remember if the window was resized, but it always puts the document at the bottom of the desktop.

I have no idea why it isn't working for you. All of Apple's apps use that feature. You might want to launch Disk Utility, select your boot volume, and repair permissions. If that doesn't fix things, create another admin user account, log into it, and see if the problem persists. If so, report back. If not, then the original account's has problems (conflicts, corrupted preferences, or cache file problems). Preferential Treatment can examine the preferences and there's other products that will clean the cache files, but I don't use any, so I have no recommendations.

All my emails, from different accounts, saved/inbox/stored on own computer/stored elsewhere have the same date, some insignificant date from the past (long before the date I bought the Macbook). I use Thunderbird, but it definitely seems to be a problem with Snow Leopard because it is also true of all the "last modified" etc dates when I try to open files in Microsoft Office - the same date appears every time. I've tried updating Snow Leopard - it doesn't help. Finder shows the file dates correctly.
I've tried adjusting the "set date automatically" settings and time zones etc, it doesn't make any difference.
Any suggestions?

Why do I get a NI-488 error massage when writing into a file and at the same time copiyng this file with a backup softwarre like Easy2Sync?

I have a small LabVIEW program which writes random numbers very fast into a ASCII-file. I want that file to be copied to a new position every 10 min. Therefor I use a backup/synchronisation software which is doing a copy operation every 10 min. It works fine a certian amount of time and after a while I get either an LabVIEW error (LabVIEW: Fiel already open: NI-488 Comand requieres GPIB Controller to be System controller) or an backup-software error (couldn´t open file...whatever). I´m guessing, it has something to do with file-access but I don´t know why?!? If I run the LabVIEW program and I copy and paste the random-number-file with the windows explorer very fast (pressing ctrl+v rapidly) while LabVIEW is still writing into this file, no error appears. Can sombody help me?

you don't get a GPIB error, the error number has just 2 different explanations...
Well, you have two programs accessing the same file. One program just wants to make a copy, the other (LabView) is trying to write to the file. When copying a file that is written to you get inconsistent results! That's why one of both programs is complaining an error...
You can't have write and read access at the same time! (But you can have more than one read access at the same time...)
