My iTunes is creating duplicates of playlists and hanging up. running latest version of lion, and iTunes using match and iCloud. please help. I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes. deleted all library files and is doing same thing.

I am runing lion and latest version of itunes. I have match on, home sharing on and using icloud. my itunes started hanging up and required me to force quit. then upon restart of itunes and restart of computer itunes would take upwards of 15 minutes to open and was using >90% of CPU and would be lagging in response if responding at all one of the playlists I had created on my ipad had over a hundred copies of the same playlist. after repeated restarts I uninstaled itunes and reinstalled. this didnt rectify the problem. I assumed library file had somehow become corrupt so I deleted library files, reimported all my music and synced with genius and match. and let the computer go over night. when I woke in morning all my music was back but I had all the extra playlists again and itunes is hogging all the cpu and was minimally responsive and hanging up after each click.
I thought this might be a virus or something but installed ESET cypersecurity did a complet scan with no threats found. I am at a total loss and do not know where to go from here. I hope one of you can assist. Thanks!

I had this exact issue. Spent over an hour on the phone with apple support, they couldn't resolve. Here is what I ended up doing, that worked.
1. Turned iTunes match off on all my iOS devices
2. Deleted the offending playlists from the iOS device they originated on
3. Started iTunes, let it run (literally) for an hour before it became responsive. First thing I did, before clicking anywere else was disable iTunes match. If I clicked anywhere, it would clock for another hour.
4. Let iTunes run overnight, by morning it had cleaned out the repeating play lists. This got my Mac/iTunes back to an operable state.
5. Restore iPhones from backup in iTunes.
What was causing my issue was a single playlist that was created on an iPhone, then suddenly showed up with several thousand duplicates on my other iPhone. The culprit playlist did not, for some reason, duplicate itself on my two iPads. Apple support seemed to think it was because the problem iPhone tried to sync the playlist to iCloud over and over again unsuccessfully, then it finally went through and populated the thousands of blank/failed playlists which then tried to propigate to iTunes and my other iOS devices. Seems like a reasonable theory.
I have not yet re-enabled iTunes match. So, no idea what will happen if I decide to go back down that rabbit hole.

Hello, I have exactly the same problem. I could have written the same text. And I have'nt found solutions. Except, perhaps, change this printer (and quit HP?).

Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
Before you reinstall the Apple software, also remove iCloud vi Control Panel Remove programs. The reinstall the Apple programs

ITunes deleting all library content

This is the second time this has happened--a few weeks ago I started my computer up and iTunes had completely wiped all content, over fifteen gigs of music disappeared. Luckily I still had the backup files and was able to re-import them all back into the library, but my iPod had to resynch with this "new" library, thus taking quite a long time to delete what was on it and load the new files. When I opened up iTunes this morning everything was gone again. If someone knows what's going on, PLEASE advise before I throw my computer against the wall.

Is your music on an external Hard Drive?
If so, you have to make sure that the external Hard Drive is showing up before you open iTunes.
If you have your iTunes library somewhere else other than the default location, you can start iTunes holding the Shift key. Then select Choose exisitng library and pick the library file. This should open your existing library.

I created a new playlist and added tunes to another. When I synched my ipod showed the new playlist heading but 0 songs, although it correctly received the new songs on the updated playlist. Tried to synch several times with the same result.

I created a new playlist and added some songs to another existing one. When I synched with my PC, it loaded the new playlist heading but 0 songs, but did add the new songs to the existing playlist. Repeated the process several times without success.

For me, (long winded way) I drag the playlist from the bottom tree to the iPod branch.
Then select iPod.
Click the music tab on the right window.
click sync tick music
go down to the playlist section and tick the playlist.
Apply.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

Just cloud is just storage space in the cloud that you upload files that can be shared by various devices, you pay for it by subscription. The important part to remember is that it is a files and folders system, much the same as putting files on and taking them off a hard drive that is shared by everything.
iCloud is a free service with a free 5 GB of storage (ample for many), you still store your files on it and share them between your various devices, but files are accessed through the application rather than a folder system, just as you would on an iOS device. It is also used to keep much of your personal information such as contacts, calendars etc in sync between all your devices, it also includes a free IMAP mail account.
i use both these models for different things, but use Dropbox instead of just cloud.

I just got a new CD I would like to import. Recently my laptop has been malfunctioning so I can't import it there, so I have to import it on our family's main computer. When I try to import the CD, it'll get maybe a minute of the first song, then get maybe a second or two of the next couple, then get half of another, and repeat the same thing.

You're not alone, but for me, it doesn't happen very often. Maybe one in fifty. Sometimes it will read after multiple tries, but a few (two of the three Shins CDs) never work. This was a common problem two years ago when I first got my iMac (many discussions but no answers). I'll keep looking and I'll let you know if I find something.
